Fuel subsidy GENERAL Santos City – Public transport operators and drivers here lauded on Friday the national government’s move to provide them with fuel subsidies amid the increasing prices of petroleum products. Orly Sabelita, chairperson of GenSan Transport workers Alliance (GTA), said the subsidy will give them much-needed relief from the series of fuel price increases in the past several weeks that caused regular and premium gasoline prices to soar to as high as P65 per liter. He said they are currently working with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) for the availment of the subsidy.

Vax for minors THE local government here on Friday has rolled out its "pediatric vaccination" drive against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) for minors aged 12 to 17. The ceremonial inoculation saw the initial batch of youth, accompanied by their parents and guardians, getting vaccinated at the city-run JR Borja General Hospital. Merlyn Uy, the mother of 16-year-old Gabby, said in a video streamed online that she encouraged fellow parents to get their children vaccinated so they could get protection from the Sars-Cov-2 virus, which causes the Covid-19.

Ports upgrades DAVAO Ciry — Port development in Mindanao will stimulate the logistics industry and position the southern island as a viable hub for imports that will then be transshipped south to north as an alternative to importing through Manila, a Mindanao business leader said. Ricardo F. Lagdameo, chairman of this year’s Davao Investment Conference (ICon 2021), said it is cheaper to import through Mindanao and from there distribute goods to the rest of the country, compared to landing the imports in Manila, which suffers from congestion. Additionally, shipping rates are more expensive going south. “I would encourage importers to look at the reverse and we do have several of them that are doing that already. We have less congestion, domestic shipping is cheaper going the other way around,” Mr. Lagdameo, president of Davao-based Damosa Land, Inc., said on Oct. 27 during the third in a series of webinars leading up to the investment conference on Nov. 11-12.

ZAMBOANGA City – Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco and a designated official of the Department of Energy (DOE) are set to meet at City Hall today to discuss the unusually higher pump prices of fuel in the city. This marks the first discussion with the DOE on the matter following Climaco’s call for the agency’s intervention to lower fuel

prices to help the people of Zamboanga. While petroleum prices have been rising all over the world the past few months, Zamboanga City’s average fuel prices are higher than most cities in Mindanao by four to seven pesos per liter, according to the DOE’s weekly posts on comparative fuel pump prices in the island. Energy Secretary

Alfonso Cusi on October 22 designated lawyer Rino Abad, director of the DOE’s Oil Industry Management Bureau, to “look into the matter” as his response to Climaco’s complaint letter on the relatively high prices of fuel from gas stations in the city. Climaco on Monday personally did the rounds in the city’s different gas stations, asking personnel FUEL/PAGE 7

A milestone for AC Health - over 500,000 COVID-19 doses have been administered since launching the COVIDShield program in July.

AC Health celebrates halfway mark to 1 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine administration;

Ayala Group successfully vaccinates 90% of regular employees Manila – AC Health has administered over 500,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, breaching the halfway mark of its 1 million dose target. Since its official launch in July, AC Health, through its COVIDShield program, has been inoculating members of priority groups across different LGUs, Ayala Group employees and their dependents, and partner companies across 25 active vaccination sites in key priority areas around the country, including NCR, Bulacan, Laguna, Pampanga, Batangas, Cebu, Davao, Palawan, among others. This large-scale initiative is in support of the Philippine National Vaccine Deployment Program and complements the public sector’s efforts to vaccinate majority of Filipinos at requisite scale and speed to achieve optimal protection. Moreover, over 50,000 regular employees across the different Ayala parent companies have been vaccinated. This brings the vaccination rate of the Ayala group at 90%, with majority of the remaining employees scheduled for vaccination in the next few weeks. “Three months after launching our COVID-19

vaccination program, we are proud to have administered almost 560,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines for partners and clients, as part of our contribution to the country’s response to the pandemic. Within the Ayala Group, we have successfully achieved a 90% vaccination rate for our regular employees. Through consolidated efforts of the entire AC Health network, together with the DOH and the IATF, local governments and the private sector, we will continue to work hard to achieve our country's

vaccination goals,” said AC Health President and CEO, Paolo Borromeo. Last September 28, Ayala Corporation Chairman Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala, together with AC Health President and CEO Paolo Borromeo and Ayala Corporation Chief Human Resource Officer JP Orbeta visited 4 sites to give support to the medical frontliners and COVIDShield staff. “We are grateful to our healthcare frontliners who are the true heroes of this pandemic. During this time of uncertainty, we owe a lot to

their unwavering dedication and sacrifice to help our fellow Filipinos be protected and to keep our nation safe,” added Borromeo. The COVIDShield program provides comprehensive COVID-19 vaccine administration services from ensuring vaccine supply, proper scheduling, vaccine administration to post-vaccine surveillance. AC Health is on track in achieving its goal of administering 1 million COVID-19 vaccine doses as the next tranches of privatelyprocured vaccines arrive in the country.

Education as foundation for national development JAMES MICHAEL M. TRONIADO T-III/TIC Sicot Elementary School

EDUCATION provides a foundation for development, the groundwork on which much of our economic and social well being is built. It is the key to increasing economic efficiency and social consistency. By increasing the value and efficiency of their labor, it helps to raise the poor from poverty. Education in every sense is one of the fundamental factors of development. No country can achieve sustainable economic development without substantial investment in human capital. Education enriches people's understanding of themselves and world. It improves the quality of their lives and leads to broad social benefits to

individuals and society. Education raises people's productivity and creativity and promotes entrepreneurship and technological advances. In addition it plays a very crucial role in securing economic and social progress and improving income distribution. Clearly the educational provisions within any given country represent one of the main determinants of the composition and growth of that country’s output and exports and constitute an important ingredient in a system’s capacity to borrow foreign technology effectively. For example: health and nutrition, and primary and secondary education all raise

the productivity of workers, rural and urban; secondary education, including vocational, facilitates the acquisition of skills and managerial capacity; tertiary education supports the development of basic science, the appropriate selection of technology imports and the domestic adaptation and development of technologies; secondary and tertiary education also represent critical elements in the development of key institutions, of government, the law, and the financial system, among others, all essential for economic growth. Empirical evidence at both micro and macro levels further illuminates these relationships.

Business Plan (Pt.2) Think a minute . . . ”The reason some people are successful is that they put their plan and work together for a plan that works.” Yesterday we started a plan for success both in our job and career, as well as in our personal life, so today we will complete the course. Rule number three: Be productive. This means we learn to use our time and talents efficiently and e f f e c t i v e l y t o pro du c e something others think is worth having. It may be a good product or service or both. But to do this we must maintain our high standard of quality in our work. The world-famous musician Paderewski said: “When I miss a week of practice, my audience knows it. When I miss a day, I know it.” This takes daily discipline and commitment to improving ourselves and our service to others. We must keep sharpening our skills, learning to use new and b e tte r te chnol og y, even learning from our competitors. Remember: “The enemy of the best is second best.” “Good enough”

THINK A MINUTE

ORLAN R. RAVANERA He was then the over-all Chieftain of the Higaonon Tribe in Cagayan de Oro. He w a s a c o u r a g e o u s environmental warrior but has no weapon except his great passion to protect God’s vanishing creation which he considered the highest form of worshipping Magbabaya (Creator). He was never cowed, no fear at all after seven attempts to his life, rained by bullets from high-powered guns but miraculously escaping death. I would jokingly tell him, “duna gyud ka antinganting Datu” and he would reply, “kung si Magbabaya naa kanato, kinsa man ang mobatok kanato?” On the 8th attempt to his life, he finally met Magbabaya, ending-up in Magbabaya’s warm embrace for giving

up his life to protect God’s vanishing creation. Those bullets sprayed at his back while driving a motorcycle 3:30 in the afternoon in Barangay Tuburan seven years ago which was done in a traitorous manner may have silenced him but not his cause. Datu Sandigaan was a passionate member of SULOG, a coalition of people’s organizations that I led in implementing the Writ of Kalikasan, issued by the Court of Appeals in 2013. Through his assistance, we were able to arrest illegal Chinese miners whose campsite we found high caliber weapons, i.e. Armalites, AK-47 and hand grenades. But never will these diabolic killers stop a cause that is greater than any life. As Khalil Gibran said, “Death is stronger than life, but love is stronger than death.” That love for a fallen comrade will put him to remain in our hearts . . . forever. I firmly believe that he is now in the loving embrace of Magbabaya! Each one of us is consciousness, a stream of consciousness that has no other destination but to the Ocean of Consciousness, the Unmanifested Being, the Formless, the Great Stillness

and Spaciousness called God. For Datu Sandigan who had no fear to give-up his life to protect the billions of species now becoming instinct, such is a manifestation that his consciousness was indeed linked to that Ocean of C ons ciousness b e c aus e only that kind of spiritual connection will make one surrender his earthly form. Yes, everything is interconnected in the Universe, be a beautiful flower or a distant star. Indeed, Datu Sandigan had not lost his life for he is life, he was consciousness that is the source of all life as we are all that! But for those who are so engrossed in unbridled materialism and consumerism, so blinded by instant pursuit of wealth and power, be loggers, miners and wily corrupt politicians who are sacrificing the people and Mother Earth to the altar of greed, wealth and power, they are buried in so much unconsciousness, they have no iota of consciousness and if ever, their consciousness is linked not with the sublime but with the mundane and to a rotten system that is now collapsing as it is devoid of pure consciousness called

Time to decide What is the right time to decide what to do in the future? I think there is no right time to decide, because in your childhood you want to become something, as you grow your field of interest changes. Most importantly your wish doesn't remain the same life time, at every stage of life it will differ. When you explore many fields your interest will keep on changing. Whenever you decide what you want to become at that point only start preparing for that and that is the right time you can say. Off course, there is a limitation for this. If you are a hard worker it will take a long time, but if you are a smart worker you can finish the same task in optimal time.

Anytime actually, you can decide now, right now what you want to do in future, but the wish to follow up that decision is up to you. Life changing decisions come from the most humbling moments in life, like when you are taking a dip or having a bath. If you mean matters such as education or decisions that may or may not shape your future, then I should say anytime that is well beforehand and can be easily planned. You can go t hroug h much of life deliberately avoiding hard decisions. But sometimes you have no choice: the situation forces you to make a decision. Consider an example from t he sp or t of mou nt ai n climbing.

Sooner or later, every mountain climber faces a dreaded section of slick granite that offers no ledges or cracks to grasp. When you climb such a wall, you can abandon the climb. Or, you can risk a move like "the pendulum". The pendulum works the way it sounds: as high above you as you can reach, you fasten a loop with a metal nut and slide the rope through the loop. Then you climb down a few feet, dangle on the rope's end, and try to swing across the sheer section. It takes nerve! The author of Hebrews wrote to people who faced just a climactic, can't-turnback decision. It involved not a mountain climb, but their entire future. My motto is always:

Remembering our dead

JHAN TIAFAU HURST rarely is! This leads to rule number four: Be motivated by a passion and purpose that gets you up every morning. “Fire in your heart will melt the lead in your feet.” Without this desire and drive, your best plans will never happen. There is a deep satisfaction that only comes from knowing you are fully using your abilities and training to become the best you can be. Yet, even if we did all this, we still need a purpose bigger than just our own personal desires and dreams. Something that is truly worth giving our life and time to. This brings us back to where PLAN/PAGE 6

We should be most thankful that as a people, we Filipinos still have a deep and strong devotion to those of our brothers and sisters who have gone ahead of us to eternal life. Sad to say, in some places that are often blighted by the virus of the so-called progress and modernity, such regard for the dead is waning, if not is practically lost. We know in our heart of hearts that the death of a person never means some kind of banishment not only from our memory but also from existence itself. We somehow believe, even before we are taught by our Christian faith, that the dead continue to live on, but in another state which we actually call

as our definitive life for all eternity. We believe that our life here on earth is not the definitive one. It is something like a training and testing ground for our definitive life with our Creator. And we are convinced that we are not making up this belief. Just the same, we have to revisit and restrengthen our belief in the Christian doctrine of our faith about the so-called ‘Last Things.’ In fact, we need to feel at home with it, since it would certainly play an important role on how to arrange and direct our life here on earth. The doctrine of the ‘Last Things’ refers to what would happen to us at the end of

our life here on earth. These ‘Last Things’ are death, judgment, hell and heaven, with purgatory as a transitory state. With death, I suppose we cannot question that anymore. It is a daily occurrence. But we may have to exert some effort to believe in the Christian faith about judgment, hell and heaven. Yes, there are truly such things. Even if we are to go by our human reasoning alone, we would find our life here on earth completely useless and meaningless if there would be no judgment, hell and heaven. But we have to be careful with tackling this matter with our reason alone.

spirituality. Untill now, the killers are still scot-free. Knowing that the picture of logging and mining operations which were done illegally, is just a “tip of the iceberg” (one-tenth known, nine-tenth hidden), I wonder who really ordered the killing of Datu Sandigan? Did the killers know that Datu Sandigan’s advocacy in stopping illegal logging and mining in the uplands of Cagayan de Oro was in line with the order of the Court of Appeals in connection with the issuance of the Writ of Kalilkasan o r t h e E nv i r o n m e nt a l Protection Order upon the petition of SULOG and the environmental movements in Mindanao. The Court of Appeals had indeed ordered in 2013 that government agencies (DENR, EMB AND MGB), the LGUs and Law Enforcers (AFP, PNP AND NBI) including the Bureau of Immigration (as there were foreigners acting as tourists but involved in theft of minerals) and SULOG (a multi-sectoral environmental coalition of cooperatives, church-based organizations, academe and tribal groups) TRIBUTE/PAGE 6

ITH greater tax revenue shares come greater accountability. On this note, Sen. Panfilo "Ping" Lacson batted Tuesday for greater autonomy alongside greater accountability for local government units as they start getting an increased share of government tax revenues starting in 2022. Starting 2022, the country will implement the Mandanas ruling that increases local governments' share of tax revenues. we started: you find success and happiness as you help others find it. That is the greatest success a human can achieve, because it is the true, satisfying success our Maker designed us to have. Remember, when we know that God Himself is with us, we cannot lose, since He works everything together for good when we live for Him and His purpose. Won’t you ask Jesus to forgive you for living your wrong way and to take charge of your life every day? Then, He can help you start living His plan and principles for your success in this great business called life. Just think a minute.

references to these last things, and we are always encouraged to be watchful in this life so that we tread the right path to our destination. Yes, our life here is like a journey, a pilgrimage to our definitive home which is actually in heaven where God is, from whom we came and to whom we belong. Said in another way, our life here on earth is all about

the ongoing creation of our own selves with God as the Creator and us as our own co-creator with God. That’s because God wants us to correspond to what he wants us to be, that is, to be his image and likeness, to be his children, meant to share in his divine nature and life. In a sense, our creation is a joint venture between God and us, and the completion of this venture would be at our death and at the end of time when, hopefully, we can, with God’s grace and our effort, truly become God’s image and likeness and the dignity of being God’s children definitively achieved.

to undertake actions to clear Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental, Bukidnon and Iligan, from all sorts of illegal mining and logging activities. What pains me no end is that puzzling question, why must it be Datu Sandigan coming from the civilian component (SULOG) who must die? All those mandated by the Court of Appeals from government agencies have the primary duties to protect the environment, receiving salaries and allowances.

Datu Sandigan, a passionate SULOG member, was just a volunteer working to stop illegal mining on a Sunday while officials of government were taking a rest. As I have said, the killing of Datu Sandigan was just a “tip of the iceberg!” We in SULOG have been shouting that justice be done in the killing of a dear colleague, an environmental warrior and hero par excellence! Well, on the second thought, I am not surprised. Having been in the environmental movement for five decades, there is no such thing as rule of law in the environment as our dipterocarp forest in those elevated areas more than one thousand meters above sea level or in hilly areas with more than 50% slopy gradient, logging is prohibited by existing environmental laws. There should never have been cutting of trees in those prohibited areas but all the finest trees in these environmentally critical areas have been logged from 1950s to 1990s, in gross violations of existing laws which only stopped when Task Force Macajalar bravely took direct actions through human barricades. We were able to

“It takes a village to educate a child.” This is a usual but powerful saying when pertaining to education. The global pandemic only proved the significance of this statement. Cheerless to say, Education is mostly affected by the COVID-19-caused crisis. Children are not allowed to school and instead study in their homes through modules guided by their respective parents and guardians and online classes for those who have computer sets and Internet in their homes. 2020 has been a challenging year. Even though vaccine is available, 2021 is not even safe yet. We can only hope for the best. However, as what 2020-2021 school year proves, partnership is powerful. It allows massive, positive solution to a problem. It c an b e re me mb e re d that the partnership and collaboration among local gove r n me nt u n it s , ou r health workers, government offices, private organizations

school administration, fellow teachers, parents and students and other stakeholders made it possible for all of us in education sector overcome the challenges and obstacles of that year, that year that made a history known to mankind. It is partnership that allowed everyone to have collective efficacy, the shared belief that together, they can solve the problems at hand. One act of partnership is what we had with our partners, the Local Government Units and private sectors in the recently concluded Brigada Eskwela and Oplan Balik Eskwela. They have given inkind donations that are very useful. Some of them donated school materials such as bond papers and computer ink for the module printing. Some have been kind enough to donate school supplies for our pupils such as papers, pencils, notebooks, bags, prepaid load cards, alcohol and face masks and shields. Some provided construction

materials for the schools to prepare it if in case face to face classes will be possible s o on. Surely, te achers, parents and teachers already missed to gather everyone in school and are prayerful that COVID-19 ends so that it would be possible. Preparing the school also means welcoming parents or guardians when they turn in modules or have concerns to tackle personally, provided that basic health protocols are followed. Other than these are volunteers who helped in repairing and maintaining the schools. “It takes a village to educate a child.” Yes, indeed. Our school is hopeful that everyone will stay cooperative in enhancing our educational system, as well as programs, projects and activities. For it is in this way as well that learners will be continuously nurtured and empowered until the day they will succeed.

stop the passage of some 50 ten-wheeler loggings trucks passing Cagayan de Oro every day from 11 O’clock in the evening to 5 O’clock in the morning when the Cagayanons were all asleep. These logging activities could not be stopped even by those Check-Points as we were told that each logging truck with armed men escort was paying P5,000 to those in the Check-Points. Thus, we have lost not only the finest trees but all the billions of flora and fauna species living in our dipterocarp forest for millions of years plundered by the powerful untouchable log gers in cohor t wit h agencies tasked to enforce environmental laws. I remember confronting a former DENR Regional Executive Director (RED) telling me in 1991 when we were barricading logging trucks, telling us that “the loggers and miners are more powerful than the government.” And another DENR RED telling us in the City Council hearing after I presented the horrible realities on logging and mining sometime in 2010, “better legalize these illegal activities because we cannot stop them!” If I remember right, my outright response was, “You know Director, if that be the case, you better legalize kidnapping, hold upping and even rape because the victims are just very few. But when you allow these illegal activities on mining and logging to continue, a great number of people especially those living in the vulnerable areas will become victims of environmental disasters, in fact, am afraid thousands

will die.” If I may recall, they all laughed and called me a “prophet of doom!” Well, Sendong came just a less than a year after those laughter leaving on its path the deaths of more than 3,000 people and rendering 11,000 families homeless. Somehow, the people have been awakened. But the Filipinos have the tendency to have amnesia as still we cannot moderate the greed of these miners and loggers whose determination to kill is as strong as their greed. With that death of our b eloved D atu w ho had willingly sacrificed his life so that others may live, let us serve notice to one and all that we will leave no stone unturned and call resoundingly for justice. That is the least that we can do. Better still, let us continue the fight for ecological integrity and security, all for the greater glor y of Magbabaya. Datu Sandigan had sacrificed so much to put in clear categorical term the statement that in in this country, no one is above the law; all must bow down to the majesty of the law because we follow the rule of law and not of men. But that is a blatant lie! No such thing as rule of law in environment; it is the law of the illegal loggers and miners, plundering our natural resources for selfaggrandizement as many have become mayors, c ong re ss me n and e ve n senators, supported by these plunderers of our natural resources. Datu Sandigan, you are now-*-+ resting in the loving embrace of our Creator, Great Consciousness, the Unmanifested that is

manifested through the billions of life forms now becoming instinct. Indeed, death has no match against your strong will to protect God’s vanishing creation. Let us feel the essence of God’s creation, be forest, mountains, rivers, seas and savor the beauty of a flower those essence, just like a song, seems to come from the Great Beyond. Wake-up all who are victims of the fallacies of life, so engrossed in the mundane. Datu Sandigan had leaped to the Great Beyond, a life that is far greater than this life. But his consciousness will always be with us, oneness with all of God’s creation as that oneness is TRUE LOVE as exemplified by our environmental hero, Datu Sandigan Fausto Orasan – our warm embrace and never ending love!

Strength-based education JAMES MICHAEL M. TRONIADO T-III/TIC Sicot Elementary School

STRENGTHS-based education involves a process of assessing, teaching, and designing experiential learning activities to help students identify their greatest talents, and to then develop and apply strengths based on those talents in the process of learning, intellectual development, and academic achievement to levels of personal excellence. The process of strengths-based education involves educators intentionally and systematically discovering their own talents and developing and applying strengths as they work to remain current in their fields, to improve their teaching methods, to design and implement their curriculum, and to establish programmatic activities to help students discover their talents and develop and apply strengths while learning substantive knowledge, acquiring academic

skills, developing thinking and problemsolving skills, and demonstrating their learning’s in educational settings to levels of excellence. In essence, strengths-based education involves educators discovering their own talents and developing and applying strengths as they help students do the same in learning and completing academic tasks to optimal levels of personal excellence. The sequence of a strengths-based educational programming: a) First discover your talents. b) Then develop and apply strengths in the areas where you have the greatest interest in achieving. c) As appropriate, apply your talents to areas where you struggle -- the places that some people call weaknesses.

She has invited businessmen to join in the dialogue with the DOE representative. “The fuel prices issue in Zamboanga City is getting worse,” Pedro Rufo Soliven, president of the Zamboanga Chamber of C ommerce Industry Foundation, said in a telephone interview. “We call for the suspension of excise tax on fuel,” Soliven said, adding that “such is the fastest remedy, then revisit the deregulation law as well as provide price stabilization subsidy to cushion the impact of spiraling prices.” Gasoline station operator Oliver Ong denied collusion in the pricing among gas stations, citing that the federation of petroleum dealers of Zamboanga City discourages collusion. “Fuel pricing is dependent on world market price. Other companies invest on freight, and engage in market competition,” he said. Ong added: “Petron has taken steps for lowering price after the July coordination meeting. Positive steps were taken, with costs reflected at MOPS [referring to Mean of Platts Singapore] prices. Any operator is not at liberty to set a price. There’s even a

For Globe, extending care to customers and providing better connectivity experience especially amidst challenging times happen because of their hard work. Therefore, the company’s relentless dedication in treating people right to create a Globe of good is evidenced by initiatives to ensure the overall well-being of its workforce. “Doing our part in helping the nation rise above this pandemic is not simply about what we do externally for our customers and the community, but also what we do internally to care for our employees,” said Ato Jiao, Globe Chief Human Resource Officer. Last year, Globe promptly ensured all-around employee assistance through a holistic COVID-19 support package. It boosted digitalization efforts to limit in-person contact and exposure, and allow employees to remain agile and efficient despite the logistical constraints. Globe particularly kept an eye on frontline workers providing essential service on-site. They were provided with safe lodging, meals, personal protective equipment (PPEs), vitamins, transportation, hazard pay, and insurance to help alleviate anxiety. Focusing on employees’ health and wellbeing, the company enhanced its existing medical insurance coverage, even going as far as fully shouldering medical expenses of those infected by the virus. Konsulta MD, AC Health, and Maxicare provided a hotline that employees and their dependents can consult with for urgent health concerns anytime, anywhere. A partnership was also forged with MindNation and HopeChat to care for employees’ mental health through virtual psychologists to help alleviate isolation and anxiety during these pressing times. To maintain active

employee engagement, Globe adopted a multi-faceted strategy focusing on the happiness, well-being, and continued growth of each employee despite challenges and limitations of an evolving work environment. Employee engagement sessions went virtual with learning and fitness sessions, talk shows, fun and educational webinars, and podcasts. Globe held 16 wellness webinars, and released 53 posts during Wellness Wednesdays, an initiative where Ka-Globe can talk about wellness in an online community. Various chatbots were also developed to help ease employees into the new working style. Digital Usher for Disasters and Emergencies or DUDE is a chatbot which serves as daily health check-in for employees and enables COVID-19 support as well as access to mental health partners. Wanda was also developed as a recognition chatbot to enable employees to send special e-cards to one another, enabling them to nurture Globe’s culture

of recognition even while working apart. Leaders kept in touch and maintained regular interactions through virtual town hall meetings led by President and Chief Executive Officer, Ernest Cu. More than being kept abreast of key developments and updates on the business and the organization as a whole, these sessions were great opportunities for employees to directly ask questions and air concerns to the leadership team. While the Philippines is still battling the virus, Globe continues to listen to its employees and provide the necessary assistance to keep them safe, secure, and productive. Globe strongly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly UN SDG No. 3 on providing good health and well-being. Globe is committed to upholding the United Nations Global Compact principles and contributing to 10 UN SDGs. To know more about Globe, visit www.globe.com. ph.

the Alcantara Group— the companies behind the development—are reimagining Davao City’s commercial spaces by offering only the best in retail, business, leisure, culture and art in the estate. Azuela Cove is set to become the pride of Davao. The estate is highly accessible to prestigious residential villages and key commercial and business areas in the city. On top of its retail and events offerings, Azuela Cove is also home to open parks for fitness and outdoor

activities. In addition, the estate is only 20 minutes away from the Davao Airport, making it an ideal launching pad or resting point for any business or leisure sojourn in Davao. According to Andreas Tuason, the gallery’s managing partner, the Azuela Cove brand is well aligned with Galerie Raphael’s vision for Davao’s art market. “Azuela Cove’s target demographics coincide with our dedication to fine arts and goal of catering to an experienceseeking audience in a relaxed yet vibrant district,” he said. “Our first branch was established in BGC, an Ayala development, so we look forward to the comforts and conveniences that Ayala has continuously provided its partners through the years,” said Mr. Tuason. “The proximity of Azuela to our target Davao market and the social connectivity of an Ayala development is an advantage for Galerie Raphael, especially with

the niche market for the visual arts.” “An art space like Galerie Rapahel is essential for building a vibrant community in Azuela Cove,” added Anton Hechanova, VP and GM for Alsons Land Corp. “Art spaces serve as a conduit for the exchange of ideas and bridging cultural divides. They support civic pride and deepen our ties with Mindanao’s culture and history. We are excited for the next series of shows and events at the gallery.” Aside from watching for these upcoming events, discerning Davao art collectors on the lookout for works by particular artists may also visit Galerie Raphael to check their buying options. The gallery is open from 10am to 6pm every day at the Retail Block 2 of Azuela Cove at Km 7 Lanang, Davao City. Art patrons may also check: www.galerieraphael. com.ph; or follow @ galerieraphaeldavao on Instagram, and Galerie Raphael Davao on Facebook.

Galerie Raphael Opens in Davao’s Azuela Cove Good news for Davao’s art lovers: Galerie Raphael, one of the country’s top galleries for modern and contemporary art, has just opened its doors to the public in Azuela Cove, Davao City. “This is an exciting development not only for Azuela Cove but also for the entire Davao province,” said Ayala Land VP and Sr. Estates Development Head, Yeng Tupaz. “Galerie Raphael is a force in the Philippine art scene. We are happy to have one of the top names in fine arts dealership right here in Davao.” Only the best for Davao Galerie Raphael was established in 2006 as one of the first art galleries to open in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig. The gallery soon set the pace for the growth of BGC’s now thriving art market as it became one of the prime art destinations in BGC, inspiring the establishment of other galleries and arts venues in the area. With over 15 years of experience in the

country’s contemporary and modern art scene, Galerie Raphael brings a finely curated selection of artworks by the country’s foremost artists to Davao. The gallery carries works by art legends, such as National Artist Arturo Luz, Federico Aguilar Alcuaz, and Abdulmari Imao, as well as Presidential Medal of Merit Awardee Juvenal Sanso, and master of neo-genre art Dominic Rubio. It also represents some of the brightest new names in Philippine art, including Katrina Cuenca and Ombok Villamor.

The gallery fittingly opened in Davao this October with a landmark show by Victor Secuya— one of Davao’s homegrown talents and one of the country’s widely collected names in abstract expressionism.
