Have a Merry A cappella Christmas with VocalMyx I

By Maia Fortich-Poblete

T’S been quite a while since I last featured CDO personalities, but the spotlight is on again. And since the Christmas season is in full swing, I decided to feature a unique singing group that just released an original Christmas song. VocalMyx is an a cappella group that started in 2018. As they sing a cappella, they sing without instrumental accompaniment. All that audiences here are their beautiful soaring voices. I’ve always loved a cappella performances and have followed several local artists over the years who often sang without instruments or recorded music (i.e. The Tux and The CompanY), so I got excited when I found out that Cagayan de Oro has its own a cappella group. My excitement doubled when I was told that their first Christmas song was just released on various digital music platforms. “Kay Saya Ng Aking Pasko,” which features fellow CDO artist John Michael Verson, is now available on Spotify, iTunes, Amazon Music, Apple Music, YouTube, TikTok, and other digital music stores worldwide. To spread cheers and a lot of musical Christmas magic, the group will also have a show on December 19, 2021. Dubbed “Ma-ACAbagong Pasko: Vocalmyx & Friend,” the mini-concert will be held at The Event Center of LimKetKai Mall. For those

who won’t be able to watch them perform live, the show will be streamed over the VocalMyx pages on Facebook and YouTube. Before you get busy listening to “Kay Saya Ng Aking Pasko,” let’s get to know the beautiful people behind the soulful voices of VocalMyx first. Here’s a simple Q&A that I did with them. Have you always wanted to be a singer or performer? When you were younger, what was your ambition? RAVEN: Yes, it has always been my wildest dream to become a performer. When I was young, I kept daydreaming that I was singing at the Araneta Coliseum. RENZY: When I was young, singing was not really my thing. Actually, I really wanted to be an animator, but when I was in high school, one of my teachers heard me singing. She then encouraged me to perform in every event in our school…and that was the start of my singing career. CHARISSE: I’ve always been interested in singing and performing. Since I was a little girl, I’ve always wanted to be a professional singer. RENIER: I never thought I’d be singing in front of many people, but I’m glad my journey took me to this path. REYNAN: Same here. I love singing and performing, but I never thought I would be in a group as awesome as VocalMyx. When did you start performing to a big audience?

What was it like? Do you remember how it felt? RAVEN: It was a surreal and nerve-wracking experience to perform in the Wish 107.5 bus! It was unexpected to be chosen to perform there and it was a very memorable experience for me. RENZY: That was when there was an event in our school and my adviser asked me to perform and well…It’s normal to be nervous at first but later on, I found it to be a good, exciting experience CHARISSE: I’ve performed in so many stages

with audiences when it comes to singing, but the biggest stage and audience I’vehad was when I joined a national contest that was shown on national TV in 2020 [The Voice]. It really was an experience that I will never forget, from the big stage to the audience and the coaches. I had mixed emotions. It was my first time experiencing something like that. Who are your musical influences? Or who are the artists you look up to the most? RAVEN: The artist that I look up to the most are

Happy Golden Birthday to our Publisher and CEO Dante M. Sudaria! Greetings from your colleagues in BusinessWeek Mindanao, Mindanao Daily and Metro Cagayan de Oro Times! Many Happy Returns and God Bless!

the artists who are in the same genre as mine, like Eric Santos, Jed Madela, and Martin Nievera. RENZY: When I used to perform solos, I really liked to perform Adele’s songs; but when I joined the group, I started to look for and listen to the songs of Pentatonix. We love Ptx. CHARISSE: The artists that I really look up the most are the artists that have so much passion for music, like Moira Dela Torre, Celine Dion, Beyonce, and the late Whitney Houston. Who or what inspires you in your performances? RAVEN: Of course, my wildest dream. I keep on striving hard to reach my dream to perform in the biggest stages in the Philippines. RENZY: Well, of course, those who really believe in my talent, especially my family and friends, who keep on tagging their friends when our group performs in some events. CHARISSE: The one that really inspires me every time I perform are my loved ones because they are the ones who support me in every song that I sing and every performance I give. RENIER: My family and friends, of course. REYNAN: The people who believe in me and support me – my family and

friends. Aside from singing/ performing, what else do you like to do? Do you have any hobbies or do you play any sport? RAVEN: Aside from singing, I play volleyball, a sport I have played since my elementary days. RENZY: Before I found my love for singing, I drew a lot – anime, portraits, and mixed art. And I dance and often join competitions, too. I also really like to arrange or compose songs. CHARISSE: Aside from singing, I also like and play sports (back when there was still no COVID). How do you prepare for a performance? Do you have a ritual or practice that you do before every performance? RAVEN: I do vocalization before every performance. RENZY: I have this ritual where I listen to the music playlist on my phone whether before or after performing. I don’t know why, but it makes me become less nervous. CHARISSE: Vocal warm-ups and exercises are necessities when it comes to preparing your voice to sing. The things I do before my performances are making sure my voice is ready, drinking lots of water before the performance, and releasing your fear or tension when you are about

Aboitiz InfraCapital and its business units are getting a new look, using the design philosophy called ‘Lines of Interconnectivity’.

Aboitiz InfraCapital rebrands in line with bold prospects

ABOITIZ InfraCapital and its business units has unveiled a fresh brand identity that reflects the group’s forward ambition to be the country’s top of mind in infrastructure solutions. The goal is to further grow its business in the coming years by proactively participating in project opportunities in the industrial development, water, digital infrastructure, and transport sectors. “At the beginning of the year, we set out to revamp our brand as part of our top priorities. We want to establish InfraCap as a full-fledged Strategic Business Unit within the Aboitiz Group, with a unique, impactful, and market-relevant brand identity and to be known as a reliable partner for growth, dedicated to nationbuilding and uplifting the lives of Filipinos,” said Aboitiz InfraCapital President and CEO Cosette Canilao. “Anchored on the Aboitiz Group’s purpose of driving change for a better world by advancing business and communities, we at Aboitiz InfraCapital aim to create purpose-driven infrastructure,” she added. AIC has been ramping up its portfolio in the past few years. For 2021, the company earmarked PhP13 billion in total consolidated capital expenditures (CAPEX) with its partners for the rollout of various projects, including its newest venture into common towers. In April, AIC announced that it has agreed to form a joint venture with leading global private markets firm, Partners Group, acting on behalf of its clients, to establish a telecommunications infrastructure platform called Unity Digital Infrastructure, Inc.

(Unity). The new branding marks a new chapter in the company’s young history, and represents its commitment to further invest in new projects that will bolster progress and economic growth. Lines of interconnectivity More than just filling in the gaps in the country’s infrastructure, AIC wants to emphasize in its new branding that it looks beyond the singular impact of a project. “We want to highlight that we think long-term, we think in ecosystems, and we give serious thought to the needs of the community,” Canilao said. It’s this relationship that AIC aims to represent in its new iconography, where all lines are connected to show how business and communities merge and change together. The new logos also reflect the company’s brand identity and values as trustworthy experts and innovative thinkers who uphold transparency and integrity. These attributes are represented by the solid building blocks that enable businesses and uplift communities. Expansions and new opportunities AIC and its business units are optimistic that the economy will sustain its recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, as demand for more infrastructure solutions emerges. Its Integrated Economic Centers are rebranding to ‘Economic Estates’ and will individually be known as LIMA Estate, Mactan Economic Zone 2 Estate, and West Cebu Estate. The change comes as expansion plans for LIMA and West Cebu Estate are underway which are expected to yield up to 89,000 jobs combined.

The business unit estimates that LIMA’s industrial expansion alone will bring in PhP 10.3 billion worth of inventory. Apo Agua Infrastructura, Inc. is on track to begin operations in 2022, in spite of COVID-19’s impact on its construction activities. Through close collaboration with the Davao City Water District (DCWD) and its Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Contractor J.V. Angeles Construction Corporation, Apo Agua has achieved significant milestones in relation to the Raw Water Facility’s Intake Weir, Treated Water Pipeline, and Water Treatment Plant. Once operational, the project will deliver at least 300 million liters of treated water per day to DCWD for the benefit of more than one million Davaoeños. Meanwhile, LIMA Water Corporation continues to build foundations for its Smart Water Network, wherein its water facilities turn into interconnected and intelligent systems. Once fully integrated, the Smart Water Network is projected to lead to even better operational efficiency and savings in terms of deep well operation, auto adjustment of transfer pumps, and nonrevenue water (NRW) management. It is also building its capabilities to grow the Estate Water business. Unity has completed sites in Luzon and Visayas, and aims to complete over 1,000 sites by 2022. AIC is also helping fast-track information and communications technology development in the country through its Small Cells business. It is looking at having more than 350 small cells by year-end with new market Subic.

Seda Centrio’s Christmas Tree Lighting goes virtual

W

By TITO MIKE

HAT has become a Kagay-anon Christmas tradition has transitioned into a virtual event in keeping with the health and safety protocols mandated by the new normal. Monday, the 29th of November 2021 saw the virtual lighting of Seda Centrio’s Christmas Tree with almost all guests and visitors online, in line with the hotels management wish to make the event as safe as possible, the city’s Alert Level 2 notwithstanding. “Traditions, treasured memories, and shared hopes are the ties that bind all of us together as one big Seda Centrio family,” Seda Centrio Hotel Manager Rhett Lionel Villaruz said in his welcome address. “The tree before us is part of our annual tradition and, as such, it has seen both triumphs and challenges. Tonight, we gather once more to celebrate our Tree Lighting, welcoming the beginning of a long and hopefully our most meaningful Christmas yet.” Cagayan de Oro Hotel and Restaurant Association (COHARA) President Eduardo “Bong” Pelaez cited the powerful symbolism of the evening’s virtual event. “Trees absorb the toxic air from the environment, and in exchange provide the oxygen of

life. Light is the symbol of hope in life and a bright future ahead,” Pelaez noted. “The Seda tree lighting symbolizes the much needed light in our service business, the hotels and restaurants,” he added. “It gives us hope for the year 2022 for the hotel and restaurant business recovery.” Cagayan de Oro OIC/City Tourism Officer Chedilyn Aissa Dulguime likewise lauded Seda Centrio’s Christmas Tree Lighting event as a symbol of hope and resiliency amidst the global pandemic. “I express my admiration at the determination to send out the message that you can’t stop Christmas, the pandemic notwithstanding,” she noted. “It has been a challenging and difficult two years and yet we have seen Seda’s resiliency.” “We are still reeling from having been placed in the highly restrictive quarantine status recently, and Seda Centrio uniquely reflects that commendable resilience of the Kagay-anon, as it does its part in making the city festive in time for Christmas,” she added. Dulguime also lauded the hotel for always featuring local artists in their decorations. “This year a very good friend’s ingenious creations will liven up the hotel. I hope that the

Christmas spirit as Seda warms the hearts of every person that would have the opportunity to experience it.” For this Christmas season, Seda Centrio collaborated with Tinabuan Arts & Crafts to showcase its unique product line using abaca as the main material; planted and harvested by farmers and rebel returnees in the mountains of Lagonglong, Misamis Oriental and woven into sinamay and hinabul using heirloom handlooms inherited from generations of weavers. Seda Centrio curated some holiday decors with the help of its founder, Esmerna Uyguangco Gabutina, made by craftsmen and artisans utilizing locally-sourced, renewable, and biodegradable materials - reflecting the rich culture and tradition of the region. With this, Villaruz said the hotel has expressed how it is not merely centered on driving revenue, but also focused on initiatives that make a positive impact by working with social entrepreneurs - creating new opportunities and contributing to better everyday lives. “To fully embrace the holiday spirit of caring and connection, we

also continue Seda Hotels’ longstanding corporate responsibility and sustainability initiative to support cleft care to children in need during this season of giving,” he noted. Since 2017, Seda Hotels has partnered with Smile Train, the world’s leading cleft charity, to bring forever smiles to children with clefts this Christmas season. All Seda properties will be participating and selling Smile Train ornaments and Christmas cards at their locations to benefit the charity, as acknowledged by Ms. Kimmy Coseteng – Flaviano, Smile Train VP for Southeast Asia. Despite their not being physically present at the event, Seda again showed its unique brand of hospitality by treating the covering media to a sumptuous dinner delivered straight to their homes. We enjoyed an extraordinarily sumptuous repast from the hotel’s BBQ Kit which includes Peruvian Chicken, Smoked USDA Beef Short plate. Salmon Kebab, Sous Vide Corn-on-the-Cob, paired with assorted sauces: Blue Cheese Dip, Bourbon BBQ, & Chimichurri. Thank you! “Christmas and the New Year have always been a time to

reflect on the past --- and then look ahead to the future. I firmly believe that 2022 will be a brighter year for Seda Centrio and for us all. But it must be a brighter year for the entire world, a postpandemic future, the next normal where we all emerge stronger; where all of us prosper,” the hotel manager noted. In conclusion, Villaruz shared

his personal Christmas wishes for all in the coming year. “At the top of my list are peace, economic resurgence and wellbeing for all, and a caring climate that will permit everyone to achieve the fullest potential of their human gifts. The airline has also transported over 16.5 million vaccine doses from China to the Philippines from April to July 2021. “We are thankful to Cebu Pacific for bringing these much-needed vaccines. With

your support, we are hopeful that we will be able to achieve our goal to inoculate 70% of our target population, eyeing daily vaccination of 10,000 for 25 days beginning this third week of November,” said Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno. All vaccines were stored in containers with the established temperature limit to ensure that they are preserved until arrival at the designated stations. “We are pleased to actively participate in helping drive the country’s immunization program. The timely delivery of vaccines across the

Philippines aids in ensuring the safety of the Filipinos while promoting economic recovery,” said Alex Reyes, Chief Strategy Officer at Cebu Pacific. CEB has attained a 100% vaccination rate for its active flying crew through its own employee vaccination program, JG Summit COVID Protect, and various partnerships with local government units in the country. The airline has been rated 7/7 stars by airlineratings.com for its COVID-19 compliance as it continues to implement a multi-layered approach to safety, in accordance with global aviation standards.

These include daily extensive cleaning and disinfection protocols for all aircraft and facilities, on top of its contactless flight procedures. Its jet fleet are equipped with hospital grade HEPA filters, known to eradicate viruses with 99.9% efficiency. CEB operates the widest domestic network in the Philippines covering 33 destinations, on top of its 12 international destinations. Its 73-strong fleet, one of the youngest in the world, includes two (2) dedicated ATR freighters and one (1) A330 freighter.

Cebu Pacific becomes greenest Asian airline with first A330neo On track to having all-Neo fleet by 2027

Cebu Pacific (PSE: CEB), the Philippines’ leading airline, received its first Airbus A330neo (New Engine Option) on November 28, 2021, paving the way to becoming the greenest airline in Asia. The airline’s newest aircraft features 459 lightweight Recaro seats,

ergonomically designed for comfort over long distances. This also allows more travelers to be carried in a single flight, resulting in the lowest carbon footprint per passenger, making CEB the greenest airline in Asia. “Cebu Pacific’s first A330neo brings us closer

to our target of having an all-Neo fleet by 2027, and shows our commitment to making air travel accessible, while ensuring environmental and social sustainability,” said Alex Reyes, Chief Strategy Officer at Cebu Pacific. “We believe that growth and sustainability are not mutually exclusive and should in fact be inclusive, if we want to work towards the greater good. This is why we will always choose the greener options – increased aircraft efficiency, reduced noise and carbon emissions, to ensure that more low fares will be available for everyJuan,” Reyes added. With the A330neo’s latest technologies, this eco-plane uses 25% less fuel than previous generation aircraft – able to consume as little as 1.4 liters per seat per 100 kilometers, thus, burning less fuel and emitting less carbon. “We thank and applaud Cebu Pacific for selecting our latest-technology A330neo as part of its fleet modernization drive to fly the greenest aircraft for a sustainable future. The A330neo is the first aircraft

in the world already certified to comply with ICAO’s CO2 emissions standards beyond 2028. The airline will benefit from the aircraft’s stepchange in performance and economics, while maintaining passenger comfort and lowest operating costs,” said Anand Stanley, President Airbus Asia-Pacific. The outstanding efficiency of the A330neo also ensures compliance with the current and future sustainability requirements

in terms of noise and emissions, providing passengers with the utmost comfort in one of the quietest planes developed. Thanks to the construction materials and engines chosen for this aircraft, the exterior noise footprint is reduced to nearly 60%, and noise level in the aircraft is 3db quieter than competitors. Powered by RollsRoyce’s latest-generation Trent 7000 engines, the A330neo also features a new composite wing

with increased span for enhanced, fuel-beating aerodynamics. As one of the world’s youngest fleets, CEB’s newest aircraft is set to enter service next month to fly to various destinations across CEB’s international and domestic network. CEB operates the widest domestic network in the Philippines covering 33 destinations, on top of its 12 international destinations. Its 73-strong fleet includes two (2) dedicated ATR freighters.

AT LEAST 14 unique animals found in Siargao islands take the spotlight in a threeday webinar for kids during the National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) celebration. In the webinar entitled, "Worth More than Gold: Siargao's Biodiversity", these animals have shown that the country's surfing capital is more than Cloud 9 waves, white-sand beaches, Sugba Lagoon, and Magpupungko Rock Pools. The webinar is hosted by the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). Animation was used to creatively showcase the basic research results and encourage the youth to start protecting the natural resources which they will inherit in the future. In the animation, each animal briefly talks about themselves on what they are,

RAVEN: When I heard the phrase, I imagined myself with my family celebrating Christmas – we are together during noche buena. RENZY: The whole song is on vibe, but for me, it is about the happiness, excitement, or the feeling of love the Christmas season gives us, especially during noche buena. It is a song that portrays the spirit of Paskong Pinoy. CHARISSE: “Kay Saya ng Aking Pasko” is a song about uniting the family this Christmas and reminding people that despite of everything that has happened to us, for as long as our family is there, Christmas will always be something to be celebrated. RENIER: “Kay Saya Ng Aking Pasko” is written based on the personal experience of our fellow DreamBoard Artist, singer and songwriter John Michael Verson. It is all about happiness in the Christmas season. Happiness, because despite of the crisis and calamities, especially the COVID-19 pandemic, we’re still alive. We are together with our families, loved ones, and friends. REYNAN: I am happy because the most special gift that I received this Christmas is LIFE… the gift of life. Nowadays, life is very important. I encourage everyone to cooperate and work closely with the authorities to make this pandemic

where they live, and how humans can protect them. Aside from animation effects, the entire presentation was accompanied by video footage from the wild. One of the featured animals is the Philippines’ native squirrels. Found only in Mindanao and Palawan, and now also in Siargao, the Mindanao tree squirrel eats fresh fruits then disperse the seeds in the forests. The seeds later on grow and become new trees. What makes singing Christmas songs a different experience? RAVEN: Yes, Christmas songs are different because they inspire us in everything. RENZY: Yes. Singing a Christmas song is an experience that is so good. CHARISSE: This is actually our first Original Christmas song and the thing that makes singing Christmas songs different from other songs is that the vibe, message, and every lyric hit us listeners. Do you have any Christmas wishes that you’d like to share with us? RAVEN: My wish for Christmas is to celebrate it normally, away and free from COVID restrictions. RENZY: For me, I wish to have a healthy life for my family and friends. And for us, after all the efforts and the moments that we shared as a group for almost four years, through all the ups and downs, I wish this group will never end. I love these guys. CHARISSE: The only Christmas wish that I really wanted to happen is to have a complete family celebration. RENIER: I just want everyone to have a merry Christmas with their families and loved ones. REYNAN: I wish for a Christmas where COVID is nonexistent. What’s your Christmas message for your family, friends, followers, and loved ones? Why did you choose to focus on performing a cappella? What makes a cappella performances different? RAVEN: I focused on performing a cappella because I feel that it makes me different from other artists. I want to inspire people to promote a cappella in the local music industry. RENZY: There are a lot of genres that I really like to try but a cappella singing is something that I more than like. There is a certain uniqueness that I only experience through our a cappella performance, and because of that, I started to do my own arrangements of the songs and convert them into a cappella versions. I didn’t expect them to work, but they did! CHARISSE: A cappella performance is something that is not very common in the local music scene. It is different from other music genres because a cappella only uses voices, no instruments or musical accompaniment Please invite Kagay-anons to stream “Kay Saya Ng Pasko.” RENZY: Hello, Kagay-anons andmusic lovers! Advent Message 2021 By MOST REV. JOSE A. CABANTAN, D.D. Archbishop of Cagayan de Oro

There is hope tungod sa atong pagbotar. Kini man ang panahon nga atong pilion ang Dios, pilion nato ang kaugmaon sa atong nasud, pilion nato ang kaugmaon sa atong katawhan. Mao na ang ginatawag nato…I vote for God, I vote for our country. Kini ang atong paglaom nga atong huptan ug iampo niining panahon sa Adviento. Hinaut pa unta.

VOTE FOR PEACE By ARCHBISHOP JOSE A. CABANTAN, D.D Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro

T

HERE is an ongoing campaign now by Caritas Philippines called “I Vote God”, “I Vote Good” and we add to that campaign now with “Let’s Vote Peace!” This is intrinsically related in the sense that Peace with God, with oneself, with others and with creation is one and interrelated. Since peace is integral, this too relates well with the theme for Mindanao Week of Peace: “Interfaith Unity Inspiring Health Protocols.” This calls for a responsive and responsible governance and leadership. A God of Peace “For to us a child will be born, to us a son is given, and the government will rest on His shoulders. And His name will be called Wonderful counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Is. 9:6) This prophecy of Isaiah reflects well on our God of Peace. He bestows us this gift of peace, Jesus, the prince of peace, his beloved Son.

safety and makes one uncomfortable, rich and poor alike. It consoles us if those perpetrators of the crime are captured and penalized. One who shoplift for instance are penalized and at times jailed. This gives peace too to the store owners and the customers as well. But what is astonishing however is our reaction to those who stole from the coffins of our government. It seems that we are already anesthetized. Yes, people may have an adverse reaction in the beginning and yet later the news just fade away. We no longer bother to follow up what happens to those allegedly accused of corruption. Matud pa “ang kawat sa likod Truly, at the heart of our faith lies the God of peace. sama sa pickpocketing dali madakpan apan ang (Rom 15:33) This too is his perfect response to the kawat sa atubang nga cry of the poor. He listens dinagko pa gayud tagsa ra to their pleas and anguish. ma sentensyahan.” This too should disturb us as (Ps 34) He desires peace we value the gift of peace. for all far and wide. (Is. This one should challenge 57:19, Ps 85) Peace in this sense as in us to have responsive and the greeting shalom, refers responsible governance. We Need to Vote Peace! to the total wellbeing Peace with others and of the person. It can ourselves mean physical, social, Peace is founded in psycho-emotional, and right relationships. A the spiritual wellbeing of relationship is right the person. It can refer to when it is rooted in the need to feel safe and God’s peace, in God’s secure, free from danger love. Peace is a fruit of and threats wherever we justice and justice or are. That is why when right relationships spring something deprives us of from love, a love that these, it disturbs us. The nurtures others, nourishes threat of covid virus for our relationship with instance makes us wary especially that some of our one another, respecting friends were really infected each one’s dignity and defending it. As St. John and others perished. Paul II said, “the human Hence an interfaith unity following health protocols person is the way for the church and society is highly appreciated. It to walk.” This calls for brings peace. conversion of ourselves. Even a notice “beware True peacemaking can be of pickpocketers” in a a matter of policy only if place where we travel it is first a matter of the somehow disturbs our

heart. Jesus shows this in his ministry by healing the sick, the mute, letting the lame walk, giving food to the multitude, preaching forgiveness and compassion to the sinners signifying the fullness of life and proclaiming God’s reign in our midst. In Luke 4:16-24, Jesus summarizes his mission proclaiming the gospel of truth responding to the cries of the poor being the prince of peace. We learn from him that the way for truth is the way for peace. In this manner, we are called to establish the “Truth farms” against the “Troll farms” that flooded the social media to build peace. We vote for God; we vote for Truth and we Vote for peace. We know very well the challenges in our society until today. There are various faces of unpeace in our midst marked by violence, conflicts, divisions, injustices, underdevelopment and poverty. We are digitized already with so many gadgets, we are tech-savvy, especially our young people, but the problems of poverty are still glaring. The pandemic I believe worsens our poor condition with our foreign debt amounting to trillions of pesos already. Our quality of life does not match with the advance of technology we are going through. We long for peace, which is sustainable and rooted in authentic development. As St. Paul VI said, “development is the new name for peace in Populorum Progressio.” We need leaders that will lead us in this direction. Peace with Creation We belong to the same web of life and responding

to the cry of the poor and of the earth is inseparable. We must do both. As we long for total healing amidst this pandemic we too long for the healing of our planet which is in a climate emergency. We are interconnected in this ecosystem hence what we have done to our environment affects us all. There are only very few remaining forests covers now in Mindanao which need to be attended to. The call to care for our common home must be an urgent demand for all of us. Certainly, our Indigenous brethren living in the last frontiers of the forest are primarily affected with the destruction we continue to inflict in their areas. Due to the ongoing armed conflicts for instance, our environment and the IPs are greatly affected. We deplore the use of bombs which cannot just kill human lives but kill the remaining forest as well. How much is the cost per bomb thrown into this area? If that amount should have been channeled to the poverty alleviation of our poor people, improve the infrastructure and services among our IP communities that might bring peace and not more hostilities and poverty. The care for our common home needs leadership who are passionate, dedicated and strongwilled hence we must Vote for this kind of leader. A Vote for Ecology is a Vote for Peace! Be Peacemakers “There is no peace because there is no peacemaker” an advocate for peace remarked. This is a call and a challenge for all of us. We can

respond to this first, in the forthcoming election. We must Vote for Peace, we need to elect leaders who are responsive to the call of building sustainable peace in our land. Mindanao is bleeding for peace, our people and the environment. I believe this too reflects the whole country. We should choose leaders who will bridge these warring parties in our land by leading them to the negotiating table addressing the root causes of all these. A certain peasant wrote to St. Oscar Romero of El Salvador, “we are tired of weapons, bullets and wars, our hunger is for justice, for food, for good health, for education, and for fair development.” Just like them we too need all that will bring us real peace in our land rooted in both social and ecological justice. We cannot remain uncommitted in this cause. We need to get involved, first by Voting for Peace, electing our Future by electing responsible and responsive leaders who are sensitive to the cry of the poor and the cry of the earth. Finally let us heed the story told by a Lutheran pastor during World War II, “when the Nazis came to get the communists, I was silent; when they came to get the socialist, I was silent; when they came to get the Catholics, I was silent; when they came to get me, there was no one left to speak.” My dear friends this coming election is another opportunity for us to speak; so let our voices be heard, let us Vote for Peace! Let us Vote for God for peace is a fruit of Godliness!!

‘Very Good’! Lacson Welcomes Google Ban on Political Ads Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson welcomed on December 2, Thursday, the plan by Google to ban political advertising on its platform during the run-up to the May 2022 elections. Lacson, who is running for President under Partido Reporma, said this move will help

prevent online trolls from misleading the public. “Very good. Ang trolls nag-a-abound (Trolls abound online),” he said at the weekly LACSONSOTTO media forum, when asked about the internet giant’s plan to ban political advertising on its platform from Feb. 8 to May 9, 2022. He said it is

about time social media companies take more action towards responsibility, particularly against trolls who spread fake news against candidates. Lacson and running mate Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, who is running for Vice President under the Nationalist People’s Coalition, noted that in Australia, there is proposed legislation to unmask online trolls by holding social media giants like Facebook and Twitter responsible for identifying them. In the meantime, Lacson and Sotto said they will continue with their brand of campaigning that seeks to uplift the level of discourse. Lacson said they will stick to

issues and not personalities as far as their campaigning is concerned, and not go down to the level of gutter politics. He also debunked claims that they are “playing safe” by not attacking political rivals, saying he and Sotto would
