PH now classified again as ‘high risk’ for Covid-19 By MA. TERESA MONTEMAYOR

MANILA – The country is now classified high risk for Covid-19 following the increase in cases toward the end of 2021, a health official said Monday. Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said the epidemic curve shows the current average daily cases have increased significantly by 570 percent this

week – December 27, 2021 to January 2, 2022 – which is seven times higher than in previous weeks. “Nationally we are now at high-risk case classification from low-risk case class in the previous week showing a positive two-week growth rate at 222 percent, and a “moderate risk average daily attack rate of 1.07 case for every 100,000 individuals,”

Vergeire said in a media forum. Latest data from the Department of Health showed that the island groups are showing signs of increase in cases while the National Capital Region (NCR) shows a sharp uptick in cases in the recent weeks. “Likewise, the NCR is at high-risk case classification See CLASSIFIED, page 11

detection, isolation, treatment, reintegration, and the management of the dead,” Duterte said. She added that the Covid-cluster clinic is also readying the temporary treatment and monitoring facilities (TTMFs). “Our TTMFs, they already had their inventory and are planning as to when they will be activated. We already have a guide in the event of a surge,” she said. Duterte also assured

the city government has coordinated with the private hospitals for those who will be needing hospitalization and medical attention. To reduce the possibility of a surge, she reiterated to Dabawenyos to continue adhering to minimum public health standards and get vaccinated. Duterte also reminded the public to practice physical distancing as she noted that some are no longer observing the protocol. (PNA)

From the Mundane to the Sublime

HOW time flies! 2022 is just three days away . . . like running ripples in that brook called life aptly described by Shakespeare as “like a walking shadow, a poor player who struts and frets his hours upon the stage and then is heard no more, a story told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.” Some new philosophers called time as just an illusion, what matters is the NOW. To quote Echart Tolle, the new spiritual leader, “there is no other time but now, thus, live in the present moment and harness the power of now. Breathe and feel the life deep within and connect with the Formless, the Unseen Being, the Source of all life” Indeed, do not allow the chattering egoic mindset to control your life because dwelling in the past and the future is just a waste of time. As we welcome 2022, may I share a poem entitled, “Wind of Change” which in 2013 was converted into a song and won a national award. “The wind of change now hovering from the mountains to the cities; from the hills to coastal communities, it is the dawn of a new day, in the land of the free. For the people to be freed from hunger and poverty, that’s the vision of the cooperatives. Amidst the darkness of helplessness and inequities, we will light the candle of social justice and progress. We are one cooperative family, highly committed the poor and the oppressed, working

for their liberation, through cooperative revolution. We will harness collective potentials, rallying all stakeholders. We will advocate, we will empower, we stand as one dedicated to serve. Now social transformation is in the offing, gaining headways, taking responsibilities. Let us all be reminded of our impending victory, the people united can never be defeated!” This poem/song embodies the essence of transformative cooperative for people, planet prosperity and peace which somehow reverberated throughout the land which is dedicated to some 18,000 cooperatives throughout the country with some 15 million members. Let notice be served to one and all that change should not only be on dates but for the people buried in so much consumerism and materialism to now evolve from the mundane to the sublime through the evolution of new collective consciousness. The call now is to evolve or die! From the mundane to the sublime. Such is the kind of spirituality, a new kind of consciousness which is now in the offing as taught to us by ancient wisdom. It is the teaching of all major religions that there is someone coming to liberate us and all the while, we have been waiting. The truth is, what we have been waiting for is really ourselves, the arising of new consciousness, our spiritual awakening to harness our inner power in that realm of heightened spiri-

Orlan R. Ravanera

tual consciousness. That new consciousness will be the dawning of a new day to unfetter a human being from just being identified as a form but is in fact an eternal awareness even before becoming form (body). Can you not feel that? My lawyer-sister, Atty. Marilou Ravanera Ares, feels that very well as she wrote in her 2nd book, entitled, A Book to be True, “Our awareness is enlightenment for it is when we are detached from heavy thoughts that we flow with our Spiritual Being, and lighten up with knowing. That our awareness is life, for it is wholly processed and perfectly displayed in the moment, now. Once we are aware we’d realize that our minds and psyche had been controlled and chained thru pride, bombarded and fed with physical and material desires and lies, that only rendered us with temporal highs, tied in the patterns of highs and lows in that same rhythm of the duality-stream. We dived deep and wallowed in egoistic and separate lives that had bred envy, greed, hatred and the like, that had also led us to materialize a dark world filled with imbalance and discoed, and in all terms synonymous as inequality, injustice, disparity, duality polarity, lunacy, sickness, malady, instability, and destruction.” Well, Atty. Malou’s book has really enlightened me See WIND, page 11

A mistaken belief

A mistaken belief accompanies each and every one of us daily. Incorrect decisions and wrong doings are part of our daily life. It is almost a ridiculous fact that man wants to know certain truths about mundane things. But really he seems least interested in even mundane truths as can be read many times in newspapers for example. There seem to be too many rash judgments, and the readers absorb these and make these their own. A fatal attraction! This is sometimes referred to as journalistic mentality wherein accusations are generously made without proof. Evolution started this trend, when scientists stated for example that man evolved from the apes, without proof. The only proof they had was the missing link, and if I am not mistaken, it’s still a missing proof until now. To look for proofs is a mental activity, which is no longer a common thing

nowadays, because it takes really time, effort and is too serious to think about. Yet in Christian education, thinking right is very important. That’s why Philosophy is important in Christian life. To avoid error in thinking, the rules of right reasoning must be studied and mastered. Is it really totally neglected in today’s modern education? Thinking is actually an enjoyable activity but when one is pressured to get a good job for one’s sustenance, then the other more mundane becomes attractive. After all, great thinkers often do not get (good?) jobs... . Spiritual writers like the British Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772-1834) noticed that mankind had stopped thinking even two centuries ago. That was during his age. Man probably stopped thinking even earlier. He has ceased many times to search for the truth. It’s easier to listen to gossip and believe in it. What a

Klaus Doring

sign of weak minds! Too often are we blind to the truth and as a consequence we easily believe in lies we only have to like it. Too bad, if people always like to close their eyes and ears especially while experiencing the delusion of error. +++ Ad multos annos? No, just for 2022: Happy New Year to all of you, my dear reader. Cebu Pacific mounts relief efforts for Typhoon Odette-stricken communities Transports over 235 tons of free cargo from December 18 to 26

CEBU Pacific (PSE: CEB) continues its various relief efforts for people and communities that were affected by the recent Super Typhoon Odette, transporting since December 18, 2021, various essential goods and volunteers free-of-charge, to destinations including Cebu, Bohol, Siargao, and Surigao. To further drive help to those devastated by the typhoon, CEB has partnered with both national and local governments, and private entities, such as Philippine Red Cross, UNICEF, World Vision Philippines, and Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation, Inc. On December 29, CEB flew 32 medical workers from Jose B. Lingad Memorial General Hospital and Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial

Hospital and Sanitarium, mobilized by the Department of Health (DOH) Health Emergency Management Bureau (HEMB), free-of-charge to Siargao and Dinagat Island, where they provided free medical assistance to the victims of the natural disaster. “This would have not been possible without the coordination between the DOH, Office of Civil Defense, Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation, Inc., and CEB. With this, we would like to extend our deepest appreciation to the support that these agencies have provided to ensure the speedy arrival of the different DOH teams to the areas affected by typhoon Odette,” said Dir. Arnel Rivera, MD, FPAFP, MHA, See MOUNTS, page 10

THE Department of Trade and Industry’s Consumer Protection Group conducted a special price and supply monitoring of basic necessities and prime commodities (BNPC) including noche buena / media noche items in Quezon City (QC) followed by an enforcement on fireworks’ compliance with technical regulations in Bocaue, Bulacan on Tuesday, 28 December 2021. The DTI Monitoring and Enforcement Team led by DTI-CPG, Assistant Secretary Atty. Ann Claire C. Cabochan inspected two (2) supermarkets in QC to check the prices and availability of holiday food products for the new year celebration. One (1) of the two (2) inspected firms was found to be selling noche

buena / media noche items above the DTI’s Suggested Retail Price (SRP). Consequently, the monitoring team from the Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau issued a Letter of Inquiry (LOI) and was directed to submit a written explanation within the prescribed period. “Although we are nearing towards the end of 2021, we will not stop going after retailers who take advantage of the holidays; DTI is committed to ensuring the protection of consumers especially at this time,” CPG Assistant Secretary Cabochan underscored. Right after the inspection in QC, the DTI Team in coordination with DTIBulacan and Philippine National Police (PNP), dashed to Bocaue, Bulacan to con-

duct a random inspection of several stalls selling fireworks and pyrotechnics. All seven (7) firms monitored, which were closed during the surprise spot-checking activity last 22 December 2021, were issued Notices of Violation (NOVs) for selling products without Philip-

pine Standard (PS) Marks issued by the DTI-Bureau of Philippine Standards (BPS). The issuance of NOV was anchored on Department Administrative Order (DAO) No. 2 Series of 2007 or Defining the See CONDUCTS, page 10

Lacson owns up to ‘watchdog’ tag, levels up crusade against thieves AS Filipinos rang in the New Year with over 3,000 new coronavirus cases detected, Partido Reporma chairman and standard-bearer Panfilo ‘Ping’ Lacson renewed his commitment to protect small business owners and industries against this recurring threat to both their health and livelihood. Recognizing that morally and politically corrupt individuals do exist, who would take advantage of every opportunity to steal from the unsuspecting public with or without the pandemic, Lacson vowed to level up his crusade versus all kinds of thieves in and outside of government. Lacson has repeatedly stated there is no tradeoff between health and

economy. Filipinos, therefore, must not be forced to confront a situation where they would have to choose between their jobs and their safety over and over again amid our nation’s continuing battle against COVID-19. In a recent post on his official Facebook page, Lacson called on the government to prioritize local manufacturers, contractors, industries, products and services over those produced by foreign entrepreneurs and businesses. Such policy would be part of his proposed ‘Lacsonomics’ a comprehensive futureproof economic strategy aimed at striking a balance between our systems of trade and healthcare with the end goal of keeping all

affected industries afloat as much as possible. Considering that 63.2 percent of our labor force come from micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) that cover 99.5 percent of our industries, Lacson said it would be totally unfair if they would be constrained to close their businesses anew because of the uptick in COVID-19 cases. “Ang laki-laki ng tama [ng pandemya sa industriya nila] so dapat buhayin. Mabuti ‘yung tourism medyo nabubuhay because nag-o-open up na ‘yung economy somehow. Pero ‘yung MSMEs kailangan nila ng tulong. So, kasama sa aming program of government, hatiran sila [ng

tulong],” Lacson said in a press conference held in Cebu City last December. (The pandemic hit the

Covid-19 (NTF) will apply the same strategy it did during the Delta variant surge now that the health department sees a significant increase in daily cases. “But we need to remember that we have been through this. This is already the fourth surge since 2020. We have gone through the Delta surge the past few months, and it was when we are still in the middle of our vaccination,” he said. Dizon urged unvacci-

nated Filipinos to get their Covid-19 jabs as new strains of the virus will target those who have not yet received their vaccines. With the abundant supply of Covid-19 vaccines, Dizon also encouraged vaccinated individuals to get their booster shots. As the country fell short of its target to vaccinate 54 million Filipinos by the end-2021, the NTF official said this target might be achieved during the first

week of January. He said the onslaught of Typhoon Odette in Visayas and Mindanao in mid-December 2021 has also affected the vaccine rollout of the government. “Our target is at least 70 million have received their first dose by end-January,” Dizon said. The NTF also aims to give full Covid-19 jabs to 70 million Filipinos beginning March this year, Dizon added.

The presidential adviser said the government will also start the vaccination of children aged 5 to 11 years once the country received its vaccine orders from Pfizer, which has a different formulation compared to Covid-19 jabs for adults. “We are following that up to Pfizer. We are also seeing that even the children exposed in densely populated areas are getting infected by Covid-19,” Dizon said. Dizon emphasized that

Vaccination remains key strategy vs Omicron surge

MANILA – The Philippine government believes that boosting its vaccination program against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) will help the country in managing the new surge with the presence of the Omicron variant, Presidential Adviser for Covid-19 Response Vivencio Dizon said on Monday. During the Laging Handa briefing, Dizon said the National Task Force Against

while the government is now strengthening its Prevent-Detect-IsolateTreat-Reintegrate (PDTIR) strategy, he urged Filipinos to strictly follow health protocols such as wearing face masks, sanitizing, and avoiding crowded area. He added that the public have violated minimum health standards during parties and get-together events during the Christmas and New Year celebrations. (PNA)

Director IV of Health Emergency Management Bureau, DOH. The airline has also made sure it took care of its own people who are based in areas devastated by the typhoon. More than 1,600 Cebu Pacific employees across its 16 stations that were affected by Odette needed assistance. Relief goods and emergency cash were provided to them, while other CEB employees in Manila also extended helping hands to assist in operations at the Cebu and Manila Airports. Apart from the free transport of essential cargo during this time, CEB has also mounted 12 sweeper flights to bring home stranded passengers from Siargao and Puerto Princesa. To date, it has already safely flown more than 500 individuals from Siargao to Manila. “We know that the areas severely affected by the Super Typhoon Odette need a lot of assistance as they work towards recovery, and we are here to support however we can. We in CEB ensured our cargo operations remain unhampered so we can fly in supplies, resources, and much-

needed humanitarian assistance at the earliest opportunity; at the same time, mount rescue flights wherever it’s needed most,” said Michael Ivan Shau, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at Cebu Pacific. As of December 26, CEB has already transported more than 235 tons of humanitarian cargo, mostly composed of water, sacks of rice, other food items like canned goods, water purifiers / filters, health kits and shelter items, medicines and other necessities. “This will be a long continuing process of coordination and partnership among these agencies, and we hope for their continued support,” added Rivera. “It has always been part of the airline’s core purpose to give back to its community in any way it can, and this is one of the times we can all come together and show BayaniJuan for our kababayans. We will continue to closely coordinate with government agencies, organizations, and partners to aid in air transport services,” added Shau. As the third year of the Covid-19 pandemic approaches, classrooms remain fully or partially closed for as many as 647 million schoolchildren around the world. Even where schools have reopened, many students continue to lag behind. It is now abundantly and painfully clear that children have learned less during the pandemic. According

to World Bank estimates, pandemic-related school closures can drive up learning poverty – the share of tenyear-olds who cannot read basic text – to around 70 percent in low and middle income countries. This learning loss can cost an entire generation of schoolchildren $17 trillion in lifetime earnings. As the Omicron variant takes hold, more governments may be tempted to close schools. Without the online infrastructure in place to support learning, doing so will extend the educational losses and deny children the many other benefits of daily school attendance like the possibility to connect with classmates.

Lacson, who earned a reputation in the Senate as a national budget ‘watchdog’ for keeping his eyes peeled on how public funds are appropriated, also said he would institute much-needed fiscal reforms to prevent syndicates from pillaging taxpayers’ money. He refrained from taking pork barrel funds during his near 18-year stint as lawmaker on the belief that such resources tend to be abused by some members of Congress in cahoots with private contractors and crooked public officials in various agencies. “Ang masama talaga, ang kasuklam-suklam, ‘yung kinokomisyunan mo [ang kaban ng bayan]. School property custodian

Pandemic education crisis

IN any public school in the Philippines, there are two kinds of properties – tangible property and digital property. In an age of information technology, digital property is already considered as public school property. Digital property includes data, Internet accounts and other rights in the digital world possessed by the school including contractual rights and intellectual property rights. Data are the files and information stored and used by computers found in the school such as emails, word processing documents, spreadsheets, pictures, audio files and movies. For instance, those audio visual materials donated by Japanese education enthusiasts who are our benefactors here in Region

10 will count us as digital property. These data may be stored locally on a computer’s hard drive or on removable data or data may be stored remotely and accessed over the Internet. In short, the property custodian is also responsible to monitor that official online accounts of the school are not hacked. The property custodian’s role is to ensure that all tangible personal property consisting of both capitalized and non-capitalized assets are inventoried appropriately and records are updated to reflect the correct model, type, serial number, department, building and room number. For one to qualify as property custodian, he or she must be a faculty member of that school.

THE global disruption to education caused by the COVID-19 pandemic constitutes the worst education crisis on record. Most countries in the world closed schools, vocational training, and higher education institutions as part of their strategies to combat the pandemic, and nearly all of the world’s students have been affected. The costs have been immense. The magnitude of the shock is still not fully understood, but emerging evidence is deeply concerning. Children in many countries have missed out on most or all of the academic learning they would ordinarily have acquired in school, with younger and

more marginalized children often missing out the most. The pandemic has exacerbated the global learning crisis even more than previously feared. Because of learning and skills lost during the school closures, this generation of students now risks losing $17 trillion in lifetime earnings in present value, or the equivalent of 14 percent of today’s global GDP, which is far more than the $10 trillion estimated in 2020. Poverty – already over 50 percent before the pandemic – will rise sharply, potentially up to 70 percent, as a result of the school closures and the inconsistent quality and effectiveness of remote learning. Bold action is needed now.

Pres. Cris Macapayag and Past President Alain de Schouwer of Rotary Club of Iligan South, Pres. Mer Sudaria-Lipanta of Rotary Club of East Misamis Oriental, Pres. Julio Aldyn “Adam” Valdevilla and Past President Anjun Gomez of Rotary Club of Gingoog, all from Rotary International District 3870. Organizers from District 3780 (Quezon City), led by District Governor Ed Ayento and the officers of Rotary Club of Quirino QC with Pres. Emma Salem, PP Jeff Santos, PE Manny Aviola and President Nominee Leigh Brawner. “This campaign allows our rotary clubs to work with the local community, LGUs and able partners like Philippine Army, and assess the needs of the community, one of which is the urgent needs of blood during childbirth, cancer and dialysis treatments, emergency transfusion after accidents, and truly, as blood could not be manufactured from the the laboratory, the only sensible choice we have is to have a voluntary blood donation from the donors, and our strong and capable soldiers and students from the 4th Infranty Division, were able to help us on that”. PAG Almarco Brito delivered his talked in Camp Kibaritan. To start off the series, 80 bags of blood were successfully collected from the willing and able soldiers stationed at Camp Kibaritan, Kalilangan, Bukidnon last October 2, 2021. This was followed by “#SuperHeroesUnite - Dugong Opolanon” in Citihomes, Malanang Opol, Misamis Oriental in partnership with Councilor Atty. Jay Francis Bago. A total of 29 bags of blood were donated. Jay is an active member of Rotary Club of West CDO. The third on the series is the “Project Baragayanihan - Dugong Iliganon” last November 15, 2021, held in Dalipuga Central School, where 26 bags of blood were donated. The fourth and the latest in the installment series, a total of 67 bags of blood were collected during the blood letting event at the 4th Division Training School in the Malaybalay Camp of Philippine Army last November 27, 2021. “The impact to the community is immeasurable. While we address the Rotary International’s Area of Focus on Disease Prevention and Treatment, the individual who donated blood may help at least 4 patients along the way, for each bag donated, plus the fullfillment of helping a patient get a treatment or extend the life, for that matter”, Pres. Julie Lim Zafra shared during the event in Opol. Zone 2 Chairman of Council of Presidents, Cris Macapayag shared to the participants in Iligan series that blood letting activities could not be successful without the support of all sectors concerned, as the possible receipients of the the same blood donated, are just the same community who are vulnerable to shortage of blood, as many needs it, yet the voluntary donation is much lesser, hence the need for sustainable event like this. “Donating blood is as simple as ABC, but the intent and humanitarian spirit that comes with it makes the blood donor and happy individual knowing that a life out there could be possibly extended”, Pres. Shine Barga shared the volunteerism call to all the participants and attendees.

The Rotary Clubs also acknowledge the financial and logistical support given by Immediate Past District Governor Rogelio “Bong” Buot, District Governor Nominee Gilda “Gigi” Go, Past District Governor Teresita “Tess” Navales and Del Monte Philippines, Inc. Media partners includes Mindanao Daily, Business Week Mindanao and Philippine Information Agency. Philippine Red Cross’ Chapter Administrators were Ms. Nancy Joy Tolinero of CDOMis. on the roots of the painful realities besetting humanity on climate change, gross inequities as the total wealth of the one percent is greater than the combined assets of the ninety-nine percent of the world’s population, why in the world of abundance, there are still some 821 million people hungry and living in extreme poverty under the economic regime of one percent, why there is so much investment on militarization, with nuclear armaments that can kill humanity 33 times over. That discovery of that new collective awareness will be the key on the establishment of a new order and a new paradigm that will provide the nurturing spirit for humanity and Mother Earth to survive from the pains inflicted Her and the people because of a collective insane mindset. It is in this light that the wind of change is now hovering upon the earth, debunking the mundane through awareness to leap to the sublime. The collective consciousness and spirituality of all the peoples of the world must now heal the wounds of Mother Earth and those of Her children, damaged all these years through false religions and neo-liberal capitalism paradigm promoting consumerist and materialistic society, sacrificing the people and nature to the altar of greed and profit based on collective egoic mindset. We now welcome 2022 with courage and with our abiding faith that in truth humanity is now evolving with a new consciousness, that in truth human beings are not just form but eternal awareness connected to the Source of all life, giving credence to the sacredness and oneness of life to establish a new earth!

BusinessWeek Mindanao, Mindanao Daily News and Metro Cagayan de Oro Times (the former Cagayan Times) print editions, we are now established an evergrowing online presence, especially MDN which is now headed for the 600K mark in followers/ subscribers,” Sudaria noted. Aside from the print editions of BWN, MDN and Metro CDO Times, each of the three newspapers further multiply their reach with their respective websites, and respective social media pages as well. “Most people now mainly get their source of news and information through electronic means, especially social media, through their mobile phones and other gadgets,” Sudaria observed. “The pandemic has boosted this trend even further by mandating virtual meetings for businessmen, work from home for many workers, and distance learning for school children through the internet.” “Thus, a strong online presence will enable us not only to reach our viewers worldwide with relevant news and updated information to keep them updated about the goings on in Cagayan de Oro and Northern Mindanao, but likewise serve as a channel through which they can direct their inquiries and reports about events in their respective communities, wherever they are in the Philippines or abroad,” he added. MDNN Teleradyo In addition, MDNN Teleradyo relaunched its programs just last December 29 with a constantly growing schedule of online programs which address viewers’ need for news and information on more specific topics such as

education, health and wellness, news and current affairs, avenues of civic service, among others. Among its more eminent program hosts are Dr. Janry Colonia of the Department of Education Region 10 who hosts Aksyon Edukasyon, and Dr. Francis Thaise Cimene who hosts Frontiers in Mindanao. Viewers can also enjoy a full menu of other shows such as the following: Hot Talks, Kalandrakas, Mag Hikay ta Mindanao, Pretty & Trendy, Rated E, Rotary International, Sikat Karon, The Home Show Unlimited, On the Road with DOH, Reaksyon Mo, Huge Upside and Scenes & Music Press. MDNN Media Center Besides extending its services to the worldwide web through MDNN Teleradyo, the group has also continued to share the expertise of its veteran core of journalists with the MDNN Media Center. Headed by veteran journalist Joe del Puerto Felicilda, former editor of Cagayan de Oro’s pioneer TV News Program Newscope, the center has sought to upgrade the knowledge and skills of journalists from those just beginning to take their baby steps with their respective campus organs, to up-and-coming talents wanting to climb the career ladder to success. Among its course offerings are Basic Interview, Broadcast News Script Writing, Binisayop/ Binisakto, Community Journalism, Emceeing 101, Grassroots Communications, Internet Radio Anchoring, Media Reportage in Crisis Situations, Newscasting, News & Public Affairs Programming, Handling Police-Media Relations, Press conference Decorum, Press conference Facilitation, Print News Writing, Program Anchoring, Script Writing, Webcasting, Workplace Decorum, and others upon request. 3rd MGLEA Awards Now in its third year, the 3rd Mindanao Governance & Leadership Awards gives recognition to the most outstanding Mindanaoans in different fields of specialization. It continues to recognize exemplary leaders of the nation who have excelled in their professions in the private sector and government service. Prior to the event, Mindanao

Daily News president Dante Sudaria handed out special service awards to employees of the company who have rendered their services since the company’s founding ten years ago. The editorial members who received the service awards were Mindanao Daily News editor-in-chief Allan Mediante, BusinessWeek Mindanao editorin-chief Nelson Constantino, Metro Cagayan de Oro Times editor-in-chief Rene Michael Baños, the late Ruel Pelone, vice president Jose Felicilda, layout artist Jose Felix Santillan, vice president Rufino Magbanua, editor Cris Diaz, online editor Joel Escol, layout artist Clifford Santillan, photojournalist Gerry Gorit, administrative staff Melanie Macaliag, circulation in-charge Rolando Sudaria and production in-charge Guillermo Ade. The event was also the launch of the rebranding of MDNN Digital to MDNN Teleradyo. The digital platform of Mindanao Daily News is meant to embrace the digital era and take advantage of it to expand the industry. Along with that, Sudaria also handed out recognitions to the hosts of MDNN Teleradyo. As for the awards itself, the following were the winners: MSU System executive vice president Dr. Rasid Paca (academe); Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board 10 director Aminoden Guro (civil service); barangay chairpersons Anthony Abejuela, Gilda Go and Christian Rustico Achas (LGU barangay); former Rep. Constantino Jaraula (legislative); Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri (national governance); Dr. Ferdinand Miranda (professional); The Fraternal Order of Eagles – Philippine Eagles president Nelson Sarapuddin (social organization); among others. Zubiri who was also guest speaker of the event lauded Sudaria’s efforts in handing out the recognitions, hoping that this will inspire more Mindanaoans to be leaders in their respective fields. “We have a lot of leaders in Mindanao who can excel but they need a morale boost to be able to do more. We can only do this if we will identify who they are and recognize their efforts,”

Sudaria said. “The leaders in Mindanao must be recognized to give them moral boost and to excel more in their fields. The Mindanao Daily News has never ceased to find ways to honor them in a fitting ceremony,” Mediante said, adding that this endeavor of MDN is part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Mediante said the conceptualization of this worthwhile project of the biggest newspaper in Mindanao is made possible through the brilliant ideas of its publisher and president, Mr Dante Macasero Sudaria. “Our publisher envisioned that Mindanao Daily News should not only focus on news distribution and the coverage of various events in the island, but it should also take part in identifying the best leaders of the nation and give them due recognition,” the paper’s chief editor pointed out. President and Company CEO Dante M. Sudaria, for his part said, Mindanao is full of topnotch leaders and brilliant minds when it comes to planning. development and execution, unfortunately these leaders are not given due recognition which will give them boost and more eagerness to serve with pride and to excel in their field of endeavors. “We have a lot of leaders in Mindanao who can excel but they need a morale boost to be able to do more. We can only do this if we will identify who they are and recognize their efforts. Leaders in the government and private offices can excel. We need to help one another in recognizing their important contribution in rebuilding Mindanao,” Sudaria explained. He said the Mindanao Governance and Leadership Excellence Awards is a very fitting venue to give them due recognition for serving their constituents, their people and to all the populace of Mindanao in general. The 3rd MGLEA event was presented by Mindanao Daily News with Philippine Veterans Bank as its Co-Presenter. It was also ably supported by MDNN’s major sponsors, including Ayala Corporation, Centrio Mall, BPI , STEAG, NGCP, DSWD, and CEPALCO.
