CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (Oro Chamber) has found new partners for the possible construction of a five-story building serving as a display area-cum-processing plant for coffee, cacao, and cashew products. Oro Chamber president Raymundo Talimio Jr. said the Italian Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines (ICCP) will initially embark on feasibility studies for the structure’s ideal location to boost local farmers’ products through the facility called “3Cs Museum.” “On the ground floor, we plan to have a showroom of the locally made products, and on the upper levels the production floor for coffee, cacao, and cashew,” Talimio said in an interview Tuesday. Talimio said this would not only benefit the local

farmers in the city but also those from nearby provinces and regions. He said the Department of Science and Technology has shown interest in supporting the project with innovation technology incubation, and with the Embassy of India in supporting the development of cashew farming and production in the city. “Pueblo de Oro (Development Corporation) has also signified about allowing part of its nature reserve (property) for feasibility (study) on whether it can be planted with cacao,” Talimio said. He said the 3C’s museum has long been planned by the Oro Chamber, but it only recently found its footing after talks with ICCP at the recent Mindanao Business Conference in May this year. PNP to beef up dialogues with schools on security measures By CHRISTOPHER LLOYD CALIWAN

MANILA – The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday ordered its units to strengthen dialogues with school officials for heightened security measures against crimes and acts of violence. “We plan to have a dialogue with various stakeholders, especially in schools. We will present our detailed security plans for the opening of classes and how to strictly implement procedures against unauthorized persons,” PNP Officer in Charge, Lt. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr., said in a statement. This came in the wake of the shooting incident at the Ateneo de Manila University over the weekend where three people were killed while one was injured. Danao said the PNP is also heeding the call of Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte to emphasize awareness regarding gun violence.

Meanwhile, he commended police responders for the swift action that led to the arrest of Chao Tiao Yumol, the suspect in Sunday’s shooting. On Monday, the Quezon City Police District filed murder and frustrated murder charges against Yumol. “We believe that we have a strong case considering all the evidence and testimonies we gathered. All these are leading to the suspect we have under custody,” Danao said. Killed in the incident See DIALOGUES, page 10

In a press conference during the launch of DOH “PinasLakas” booster vaccination campaign on Tuesday, DOH-CHD-1 director Dr. Paula Paz Sydiongco said this is to complement President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive on mass vaccination against Covid-19 for his 100 days in office. “It will target 90 percent vaccination of senior citizens to complete (the) first and second dose and provide booster shots to 50 percent of the 12 years old and above population,” she said. There are 87,997 senior citizens in the region who have yet to be vaccinated. Sydiongco said there are benefits to achieving the target number of population to get booster shots. “If we have (a) good number of those who got their booster shots, there is the possibility of removing the face mask but if we cannot achieve the number then, we will continue with the wearing of face masks and (adherence to) other

health protocols. If the target population got their booster shots, we can all live and work freely and worry less,” she added. To attain the target, DOH-CHD-1 regional program manager John Paul Aquino said they would improve the accessibility of vaccination centers. “We will bring the vaccine to the terminals, plaza, worship areas, workplaces, and even schools to reach the target population,” he

said. Aquino said they are preparing the guidelines to provide incentives or recognition to local government units that will reach or surpass their targets. He also assured there is enough supply of vaccines in the region. As of July 25, some 3.7 million residents were fully immunized while 910,413 residents aged 12 years old and above received their booster shots. (PNA)

Kim’s Dream Ecologically, Our World is in Trouble – Right Now!

This is the Way the World Ends

IN his book, “This is the Way the World Ends,” the author, Jeff Nesbit has delivered an enlightening and alarming explanation of climate challenge as it exists today. Indeed, “Climate change is no far-off threat. It’s impacting communities all over the world at this very moment, and we ignore the scientific reality at our own peril.” As Pope Francis mentioned in Lau Da tu Si, we must now hear the cry of the earth And why not? Well, Jeff Nesbit has categorically written in his book the following truism: “Longer droughts in the Middle East are causing extreme water shortages. Growing desertification in China and Africa is creating a severe food security challenge. The monsoon season is shrinking in India, perhaps upending a century-old water cycle. Amped-up heat waves in Australia are making part of the continent unlivable. More intense hurricanes could devastate entire cities in America. Water wars in the Horn of Africa are now the root of armed conflict. Rebellions, refugees, and starving children across

the globe are becoming common-place.” These are not disconnected event. These are the pieces of larger puzzle that environmental expert Jeff Nesbit puts together. Thousands of concerned scientists and environmentalist are collectively yelling right now as they can see that we are in trouble on our planet from Earth’s changing climate. These concerned scientists are yelling that the signs of that trouble range from massive species extinction and ocean system collapses to water scarcity and food insecurity that now threaten the lives of tens of millions people in distant land. Despite all of these warnings, the business-as-usual attitude continues through corporate globalization. No way will the 19 fossil companies led by Exxon Mobile stop or even reduce the usage of coal and carbon emission. These companies are earning 10 trillion dollars annually or 10 million dollars every minute and such gargantuan raking also goes to the mainstream media, to the politicians especially the Republicans and to religious groups as

Orlan R. Ravanera

manifested in morale collapse and religious apathy through religious fundamentalism. There is a continuing denial on climate change by the mainstream media as it continues the outpourings of gospel of lies to promote unbridled consumerism and materialism. Climate change denial is an unprecedented crime against life and humanity. But such crime is being justified as high veneration to profit motive has already captured the mindset of all governments, all institutions, all universities and even of all religions. There is now so much denigration of spirituality as humanity is now deeply buried in unbridled consumerism and materialism where instant pursuit of wealth, power and fame is the mode of the times. Humanity is deeply engrossed in collective insanity through compulsive thinking, wallowing in the mundane rather than in the sublime. When will humanity wake-up, having been See WAY, page 11

Hints and Traces

Realistic, vigilant and hopeful

THE explanation Christ gave about the parable of the good seed and the weeds in the field (cfr. Mt 13,3643) is a lesson for us to be realistic in our life that will always have the mixture of good and evil, but at the same time, always vigilant and hopeful, doing a lot of good without let-up. It should be a given that in this life we have to contend with many evil elements, first, our own weakened selves, the many temptations in the world, and the devil himself. We just have to learn how to deal with this life-long condition and predicament. To be realistic in this case can mean that we cannot avoid getting dirty along the way. We should not expect that we can come out of this life without some dirt, some cuts and bruises, some suffering and the cross itself. But as long as we continue to be vigilant and hopeful, using all the means made available so we can continue to struggle effectively, we know that victory is assured for us. Christ guarantees it. We always have to remember that while we have to do all that we can, in the end it would be God who will take care of everything, who will perfect and complete things that

we get involved in, who will make the final judgment as to which is good and which is bad. But, yes, we have to upgrade our vigilance skills especially these days when we are living in an increasingly complex world. The powerful new things we are enjoying these days, while giving us a lot of conveniences and advantages, can also occasion greater danger since they can also lead us to graver forms of self-indulgence and other disorders not only in terms of physical, mental, psychological health, but more so in terms of our spiritual and moral health. We should not take this need for granted. We have to continually update and upgrade our vigilance skills. Remember Christ telling his disciples: “Beware that your hearts do not become drowsy from carousing and drunkenness and the anxieties of daily life…Be vigilant at all times.” (Lk 21,34.36) We also need to stretch some more our patience, or our capacity to suffer, to bear the burdens and pressures of the times, the unavoidable sins and their consequences. In that parable of the wheat and the weeds, the master told the servants not to uproot the

Roy Cimagala

weeds in the meantime since it would just also damage the wheat. He advised them to wait till harvest time when the separation can be finally made. But we should continue to do a lot of good. Let’s see to it that the new powerful technologies we are having these days are used to widen our scope of apostolic work, entering into all sorts of networking in order to spread more widely and extensively the word of God and the spirit of Christ. We have to feel the urgency of this need and duty, otherwise these powerful technologies would be left in the hands of the enemies of God and of our soul. Nowadays, we cannot deny that powerful groups and forces, with their own questionable ideologies, are busy using these powerful means to spread their false doctrines. In all these, let’s see to it that we avoid falling into bitter zeal which would undermine the good deeds and intentions we have. Email: roycimagala@ gmail.com

Region 8 upbeat of Tacloban airport dev’t with Marcos SONA By SARWELL MENIANO

TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Tourism (DOT) regional office here is upbeat that the pronouncement of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to build more international airports in the country will help fasttrack the development of the Tacloban airport. DOT Eastern Visayas regional director Karina Rosa Tiopes said the city’s airport is one of the top 10 busiest airports in the country outside Metro Manila, but it is still classified as a domestic airport. “And we are the only airport in that list that is not classified as an international airport. With the statement of the President, we are optimistic that the completion of all the infra(structure) needs will be fast-tracked,” Tiopes said in a phone interview. The airport, named after President Marcos’ uncle, Daniel Z. Romualdez is the main gateway from Manila and Cebu to Eastern Visayas. It is classified as a Class 1 principal (major domestic) airport by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP). CAAP data shows that in 2021, the airport was ranked as the 6th busiest airport with 519,158 inbound and outbound passengers.

The airport has more passengers than other international airports, such as those in Iloilo, Butuan, Zamboanga, and Bohol. In his State of the Nation Address, Marcos enjoined his Tourism and Public Works chiefs to make it more convenient for travelers to go around the country and provide them easier access to remote areas and undiscovered tourist spots. “To boost our tourism industry, we will first and foremost make basic developments, such as road improvements for easier access to tourism spots. We will also upgrade our airports and create more international airports to help decongest the bottleneck at

the Manila International Airport,” he said. Report posted by the Regional Development Council showed that the construction of the control tower building of the Tacloban City Airport was completed in 2021. While construction of the control tower building is done, the current project contract does not include items that will completely operationalize the control tower building, such as the furnishing of new equipment or instruments, electrical features, among others. MANILA – Officials from the Department of Energy (DOE) said on Tuesday one of the agenda in the energy sector of the Marcos administration is to reduce the cost of fuel and power in the country. DOE director Mario Marasigan said since the country is dependent on imported petroleum products, the agency aims to tap other fuel sources, as well as to push for innovation in the mass transportation system. “We c an i nt ro du c e electric-driven locomotives rather than (the) conventional transportation system. We can also introduce the e-vehicle program so we use more of the renewable energy that we have in terms of (the) electric power industry and lessen our dependence from fuel

sector,” he said during the post-State of the Nation Address (SONA) Philippine economic briefing in Pasay City. Marasigan added that the DOE is also pushing for the exploitation of indigenous resources, not only renewable energy, but finding the next natural gas resources that will augment the Malampaya gas field. In his SONA on Monday, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said there is a need to build more new power plants to meet the growing power requirement in the country. “We must build new power plants. Dad files proposal for city hall employees to wear IP outfits By CHRISTINE CUDIS

DAVAO CITY – A City Councilor here filed a proposed ordinance requiring city hall employees to wear indigenous people (IP) attire at work once monthly. Councilor Al Ryan Alejandre filed Tuesday the measure requiring “city government employees to wear an Indigenous People attire Every first Monday of the month to celebrate our local culture.” “When I was appointed by then President Rodrigo Roa Duterte as then executive director of the National Commission on Culture and Arts, I realized that our culture and tradition receive less appreciation.

Although we are a country rich in history, we have somehow failed to appreciate our diversity and mocked the identity that shaped us,” Alejandre said in a privilege speech. He mentioned the traditional Bagobo-Tagabawa attire worn by Vice President Sara Z. Duterte to the first State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Monday. “Though Vice President Inday Sara made a grand entrance and became the belle of the crowd during President Marcos’ SONA, she was not excused from the criticisms of the public. moting her city’s culture. However, few people have called out what she wore and called it a ‘cosplay’, Alejandre said. He said the Vice President donned the Bagobo Tagabawa traditional attire because she wants to show her care and appreciation to the IPs. In an interview, Alejandre underscored the importance of having Dabawensyos wear the traditional attire of the 11 IP tribes, whose members are considered the original dwellers of Davao City.

“We need to acknowledge and appreciate it. This is one way of giving them honor and respect,” Alejandre said. He added: “What Vice President Sara showed us is a message that we can also wear the traditional attires of our IPs on formal occasions that require us to wear Filipiniana.” The council also has a pending measure that would require all public and private schools at all levels in Davao City to include in their curriculum the city’s history. In the past three administrations, there have been several pronouncements from the national government to modernize the city’s airport. During the Duterte administration, among the projects that started were the airport control tower and new terminal building. The airport currently has a single-story terminal building, a communications tower and an administrative building. The single-story terminal building consists of the departure and arrival area. Development of the Tacloban airport has been delayed as it was first included for funding under a Japan International Cooperation Agency yen loan package in 1999, along with the Bacolod-Silay Airport. The new Bacolod airport was completed in January 2008 while the Tacloban airport project was shelved in September 2008 for lack of funds. (PNA)

Knowledge in accountancy By LUCITA A. NERI Ozamiz City National High School

ACCOUNTING or accountancy is the measurement, processing and communication of financial information about economic entities. The modern field was established by the Italian mathematician Luca Pacioli in 1494. Accounting, which has been called the language of business, measures the results of an organization’s economic activities and conveys this information to a variety of users including investors, creditors, management and regulators. Practitioners of accounting are known as accountants. The terms accounting and financial reporting are often used as synonyms. Accounting can be divided into several fields including financial accounting, management accounting, auditing and tax accounting. Accounting information systems are designed to support accounting functions and

related activities. Financial accounting focuses on the reporting of an organization’s financial information incuding the preparation of financial statements. To external users of the information such as investors, regulators and suppliers. Management accounting focuses on the measurement, analysis and reporting of information for internal use by management. The recording of financial transactions so that summaries of the financials may be presented in financial reports is known as bookkeeping of which double entry bookkeeping is a common system. Accounting is facilitated by accounting organizations such as standard setters, accounting firms and professional bodies. Financial statements are usually audited by accounting firms and are prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.

Keeping Fit LOIDA A. PADILLA Teacher III City Central School

It is true that many people take up a sport to keep fit. You will get little pleasure out of any strenuous sport unless you are reasonably fit when you begin to play it. This is particularly true in badminton. To be fit for badminton is no different from being fit for any game movement. I can only suggest therefore a few lines of approach for those who feel they are not toned up enough to execute on the court. Take Footwork…..you can improve this simply by skipping. Simply touch your toes about 20 times….do this every day, anywhere. If you

persevere with this, without “kidding” yourself at all or cheating, in any way, you will soon find you can get down to the shuttle just as easily as you do to your toes. For Wrist…..support the right forearm at the edge of the table while holding a weight ( a book will do). Now roll wrist clockwise, then counter clockwise. Make this 3x10. For legs ….squat jumping…..knees bend followed by vertical jumps. Try to increase the height or number of jumps per session of exercise. Then, you are now ready to hit the bird. See you at Sportzone and let somebody kiss your smash.

Teaching Strategies Implementing to the Classroom in Face-to-face By: CATHERINE P. ESTRELLA Teacher I Tignapoloan National High School

Just keep in mind that maintaining student engagement should be your top priority once you begin teaching. You had to reconsider how you presented the course information and how you portrayed yourself as a teacher when you were a teacher. It’s tempting for professors to solely concentrate on the topic and disregard whether or not pupils are paying attention when they can’t see their faces or interpret their body language. Establishing your presence right away. Welcome your students to the learning community. Tell them something about yourself--- your background, your interest, a book you’re currently reading. Describe what the course is about and what you hope students will learn. Establishing a community early on will help a student feel welcome. The conversation happens in the constrained setting of a real classroom. In order to

achieve a decision in a constrained period of time, the instructor frequently guides and directs the discussion’s topic. Responses often need to be drafted rapidly because of the time constraints. Speaking in front of a group of people in a classroom may be intimidating, but there are also advantages, such as having other students and teachers provide visual signals. To make sure that your classroom operates well, clear routines and processes must be established. What is expected of them in your classroom must be clear to the students. Think carefully about the routines you need to plan in order to have seamless transitions throughout the day. Make a list of the transitional times throughout the day to help you clarify them in your thoughts. By sharing their own classroom routines and processes, other teachers or your mentor can act as resources.

secretary Juan Antonio Perez III, POPCOM Executive Director, said despite continuous collaboration of their regional offices with local government units, they cannot do it alone. “The huge roles of parents and community play the biggest part in a child’s development, which are complemented with help and support that the government can provide,” he said. Amid the challenges, Perez said they combine their efforts with a common goal to achieve the desired stable, comfortable and secured lives, especially for children. POPCOM calls them benchmarks on how national and local governments have to look after young Filipinos, with focus on their learning and growth, as well as maternal and child care. Perez said that continuous monitoring of the de-

velopment of the particular group of young Filipinos serves as an indicator of the Philippine government’s services under the Philippine Population and Development Program. “Our wish is for the families of the children to be models in their respective communities, where they are guided on their ways in ensuring that each single member, especially the kids, can be healthy, productive and empowered,” he said. Marcos said during the Cabinet meeting that schools must work under the in-person learning setup and the blended mode must only be allowed in particular areas. We continue with blended learning. As much as possible face to face. What we must do is to identify where to implement blended learning so we can focus. Ready the devices needed which were not supplied to learners during the pandemic. Possible changes in the upcoming reopening of the school year were also tackled.

Science and Technology: Vital to Modern Life VIRGEL D. RATILLA District ALS Coordinator Magsaysay District I DepEd Misamis Oriental

Without a doubt, science and technology have made our lives easier and faster. Almost everything we see around us is a result of science and technology, whether it’s cellphones, electricity, television, vehicles, paper, toothpaste, and the like. We must always work to ensure that innovations in these fields are used to benefit the entire human race and make the world a better place for all. Scientific knowledge teaches us how to express our civic aspirations and our desire to connect with others and make a difference in the world. Science and technology have permeated every aspect of our lives, altering how we work, learn, and shop. Thus, science and technology have made human life easier and more comfortable and have enabled us to live in a modern way. It has made cooking, sleeping, communicating, and transportation easier and faster with the help of things like microwaves, fans, smartphones, and cars. We also use technology to communicate with people all over the world and share information; to clean our clothes, prepare our meals, and move from one location to another; and in everyday items such as floorboards, door locks, and furniture, which seem less impressive than self-driving cars or 3D printing. Additionally, information technology, including the internet, is a wonderful technological gift.

Dialogues...

We not only gain tremendous knowledge in science and other subjects thanks to the internet, but we also maintain constant communication with our friends and families. The internet and related tools are already playing significant roles in fields such as data mapping and visualization, crowdsourcing, and others. The internet has made communication and spreading the word easier. It only takes one click and possibly one tweet these days to share something with a social network. Technology is also important in business because computer transactions and other events take place. Lastly, science and technology have made significant contributions to education. Science and technology are inextricably linked. With scientific knowledge, we can solve practical problems, make informed decisions, and develop new technologies. Science has provided us with tremendous knowledge, so we have an important subject to study, while technology has simplified education by providing us with options such as smart classes, electronic libraries, e-books, multimedia devices, and so on. Teaching children technological literacy, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills allows them to learn at their own pace and provides them with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in school and beyond.***

with recognizing letters. Pretty soon, readers can identify words- and, most importantly, understand what those words mean. Readers then become writers. With more experience, readers and writers develop strong literacy skills. Media literacy is the ability to identify different types of media and understand the messages they’re sending. Kids take in a huge amount of information from a wide array of sources, far beyond the traditional media (TV, radio, newspapers, and magazines) of most parents’ youth. There are text messages, memes, viral videos, social media, video games, advertising, and

literacy. As children evaluate media, they decide whether the messages make sense, why certain information was included, what wasn’t included, and what the key ideas are. They learn to use examples to support their opinions. Then they can make up their own minds about the information based on knowledge they already have. Consequently, media literacy helps kids learn how to determine whether something is credible. It also helps them determine the “persuasive intent” of advertising and resist the techniques marketers use to sell products.

The Flame Keeper

By: JOHNSON RUBELLE M. ACOL-ACOL

A complex invention dawned from a spark of an idea. A sophisticated blueprint began from piles of scratches. An Acacia tree sprouted from a small and weak seed. We all started from nothing and nowhere. Even this article could not be in this form without the words and thoughts. The protection, the light, and the warmth of a fire started from a weak flame. What keeps a flame then to grow into a bright and everlasting fire? Before I became a teacher, I have undergone numerous jobs. From one company to another, I hopped tirelessly in search of a place I could feel I belong. A spark of realization, an insight I discovered that I have a good speaker in me. A warm feeling of passion embraces me whenever I get a chance to speak in a seminar or an interview. The desire to influence people has become burning hot that it excites me more to take greater speaking roles. And I see that I have awakened the flame in the eyes of my listeners. So, I took the role

of having to talk all the time. All my years in the teaching profession, I have seen numerous kinds of students. I have seen the confident and the shy, the brilliant and the dull, and the stable and the disturbed. However, I find a common root among them, most are broken and sad. I see it when they turn an eye aside as I do my discussions when all I thought was, I made it so fun. Their dreams were my dreams too when I was their age. Their desires were mine too. Passing on the flame to my students is not enough, I reflected. Keeping the flames in my students’ hearts is my utmost priority, whether be it small or large. As we collectively are there for one another, our flames become even brighter lighting our paths and spreading glow to others. There may be times that our flames are challenged, we are reminded by the light that we have given others. That is how to keep the flame growing bright and everlasting, it is to become a flame keeper!

imprisoned in the fallacies of life and religions through dogmas? History can attest that religious wars in the past had caused so much conflicts and deaths based on the mindset that “I am right and you are wrong, thus, I will kill you!” Such violence is also anchored on a Darwin’s principle of the “Survival of the Fittest,” like telling a cornered prey that I am strong and you are weak, thus, I will eat you. That seems to be the mindset of the rich and powerful under the regime of one percent where the combined wealth of the one percent of the world’s population composed of global corporations is far greater compared to the total assets of the ninetyninety percent. In a world of abundance, there are still some 821 million who are living in extreme poverty and hunger, mostly in Asia. The regime of one percent has already sacrificed the people and the environment to the altar of greed and profit. If this will continue, the earth will be going down into the precipice of its 6th extinction. The 5th extinction happened some 63 million years ago when asteroids hit the earth, erasing the existence of the dinosaurs. The forthcoming extinction is not anymore through asteroids hitting the earth; this time it is human-made or Anthropogenic. Don’t you know that based on the Study of Oxfam, it was mentioned that the most flawed species of all of God’s creations is the homo-sapiens who have caused the deaths of some 200 million human beings in the 20th century alone through two world wars, the Holocaust, the cleansing of Pol Pot, the Vietnam and Middle East Wars and Stalinism. Now, the homo sapiens are killing not only its own kind, the billions of flora and fauna and all life on earth and even sacrificing GAIA to the altar of greed and profit. But there’s good news as mentioned by Jeff Nesbit. “Like every significant challenge we’ve faced – from creating civilization in the shadow of the fast ice age to the “Industrial Revolution – we can get out of this box canyon by understanding the realities, changing the worn-out climate conversation to one that’s relevant to every person. Indeed, we must now debunk the mundane to go to the sublime. Relevant to every person is to know who truly we are, our deeper self. Each one of us is not just form but consciousness prior to taking a form (body). Let us now feel that essence of that deeper self that is rooted to the Source of all Life, the Formless, the Unseen Supreme Being where all life emanated. When we therefore feel the interconnectedness and oneness of life, no way can

the world ends. Feel that oneness of Life, which is in fact TRUE LOVE, then, no way will the world ends! Feel that ONENESS with every human being, with every tree and flower, with every bird, with every fish then whisper to the wind, I LOVE YOU GAIA!

On Monday afternoon, Talimio joined several sectoral representatives in the city and Misamis Oriental province to solicit recommendations for the food and agriculture industry. Reuben Vegafria, Oro Chamber’s past president and chairperson of this year’s Mindanao Food Congress and Oro Best Expo, said the recommendations will be presented to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. as one of the guests for the October 26-30 event. “We almost have all provinces and urban cities joining in this event, we only need final confirmation from Bukidnon, and we will visit Camiguin province,” he said. Vegafria said they talked with the newly elected B u k i d n on G ov. O n e i l Roque recently, and will also talk with Camiguin Gov. Xavier Jesus Romualdo soon about the Congress, which aims to present modern practices in agriculture and food supply chain networks in Mindanao. He hoped that under

Thursday, July 28, 2022 the Marcos administration, new policies will be introduced especially in subsidizing the agricultural inputs so that farmers will not be burdened to increase the harvest prices for suppliers. The Oro Best Expo and Food Congress will be partnered with the Embassy of India, which Vegafria said, is the first in the history of the Oro Chamber in organizing such an event. “We only have local partners before, when we talked with the Indian Embassy, they said they don’t just want to be convenors but partners in this event,” he said. have a shot at better jobs. “We would like our initiatives to focus also on what we call the special program for the employment of students, as well as hone the skills of our youth and prepare them for better work arrangements,” he added. Laguesma said he would use the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) and PhilJobNet, the government’s online platform that crossmatches jobseekers with job postings and employers. “All in all, we would like to have job facilitation and also the concept of ease of doing business being implemented and enjoyed because you know, the creation of jobs would be done largely by the private sector and we would like to really work in tandem with them,” he added. The PESO is a non-fee charging multi-dimensional employment service facility in local government units. (PNA)

ang motibasyon ngayon ng mga tao dito BARMM,” she explained, citing that strategies employed by the regional government enhanced the vaccination coverage. In a presentation shared by OIC Minister of Health (MOH) Dr. Zulqarneyn Abas, concerted effort, particularly during Special Vaccination Days (SVD), has relatively contributed to the increasing vaccine coverage in the region. Some of the strategies employed were the partnership among MOH, Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD), and

Ministry of Basic, Higher, and Technical Education (MBHTE), primarily on vaccination of senior citizens and pediatric populations. Further, the involvement of the Muslim religious leaders as advocates significantly helped the vaccination effort. It shall be noted that the Bangsamoro Darul Ifta (BDI) has already issued a fatwa or islamic ruling that vaccines are safe and halal (permissible). Vergeire on the other hand disclosed that the current administration will also launch a new campaign dubbed as ‘Pinaslakas’. “Pinaslakas is the first 100 days vaccination campaign of the current administration,” she added, further explaining that the campaign targets to innoculate 90% of the senior citizens all over the country vaccinated with primary series and at least 50% of the eligible population. CM Ebrahim in return

has committed to supporting the new campaign scheduled to be launched next week. “On our part, we assure you that we will participate in this campaign. As I have mentioned, we are among the lowest regions in terms of vaccination, so we are

Forum highlights the lives that the insurance industry has changed A young graduate who tried his luck in the United States, a high school student whose parents are insurance agency leaders, and a former actress and beauty queen turned event host and accountant -- these are the people whose lives have been changed for the better by the insurance industry. They shared their stories of struggles, challenges, rewards, and achievements during the recent Insular Life (InLife) Winners Circle Business Opportunity Forum conducted in Iloilo City and online via Zoom. Focusing on What Matters Most Stacey Zachary Exaltacion was doing his internship in New Jersey when he first experienced not having enough money to buy food. Knocking on doors and hoping that a fellow Filipino would help him out made him realize that he needed to find clarity in what he really wanted in life. As a student, Exaltacion was successful in his academics. He shared that his parents would always look forward to him getting on stage and receiving an award. So, it was quite a shock for him to find himself having to ask for food. “Where do I want to be? What do I want to become?”

he asked himself. When he returned from the US, his mother Zaldinia Exaltacion, InLife’s District Sales Manager, asked if he would like to train financial advisors. While he took the opportunity and confessed to enjoying the training, he was hesitant to make a career out of it. Then he started considering the things that motivate him and realized that InLife offered what he needed -financial freedom, benefits, rewards, travels, and incentives. But beyond these, he focused on the significance of the life insurance career. “And that’s making a difference in people’s lives through financial planning,” said Exaltacion who is now InLife’s licensed Financial Advisor and Unit Manager of G & S Financial Team District Sales Office. “Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending,” Exaltacion said. years old, Gurrea has already been to 15 countries. “All of these are made even more memorable because I was with my family,” the consistent honor student

said. More than the travels, Gurrea is most thankful for the comfortable life that InLife has made possible for their family.

“As early as zero age, my parents also started getting me insurance and investments, may it be for my debut, college education, properties, business capitalization, and retirement,” she shared. Gurrea considers herself a proud InLife baby and feels blessed that her parents are in a very noble profession of helping other Filipino families achieve their financial goals. “This career is not just about commission and incentives; it’s more about reaching your and your loved ones’ dreams,” she said. Finding Meaning and Purpose in What You Do Masumay Booc has a bachelor’s degree in Accountancy from the University of Cebu. And with a diploma in Performing Arts, she has been an actress, a member of a girl group, disc jockey, and a beauty queen. She won an acting award and the title Miss Lapu-Lapu in 2013. Booc hosts events and owns her own fitness gym with her fiancée. It was, however, in the insurance industry, that she has found meaning in what she does. As early as July 2019, she decided to become a financial advisor. It took her until January 2020, however, to

finally join Agila Financial Team General Insurance Agency, Inc. She shared that her decision was motivated by purpose. “I said to myself that if I were going to be rich, I’m going to be rich with a purpose,” Booc said. While it took her 10 months to close her first sale, Booc did not give up and her hard work has paid off. She has also been promoted to Unit Manager at InLife. “We will not be remembered by the professions and the titles that we hold. It is not about the recognitions and awards we receive, but the difference we have made in other people’s lives and how we’ve used this life to benefit others,” Booc emphasized. Opportunities Made Possible by InLife Exaltacion, Gurrea, and Booc are all part of the family of InLife, the largest Filipino life insurance company in the country with a mission to provide “A Lifetime for Good” to Filipinos. InLife Chief Operating Officer Efren C. Caringal, Jr. encouraged Filipinos to start their journey with InLife as financial advisors. “Insurance companies provide social good.
