this is the third in the history of Lala's annual Alimango Festival that there has no 'alimango mountain' that residents and visitors expect because of the pandemic. Positive Effects of Face-to-Face Learning Towards Students GERONIMO O. CAÑETE School Head Dominga National High School Brgy. Dominga, Calinan Dist., Davao City

Teaching requires more than just knowledge of the subject matter it also requires passion and patience to convey an idea that the students will understand simply. These ideas then are used to solve problems through tests and classroom activities. In this manner, students are encouraged to discuss, collaborate and cooperate. This scenario rarely happens at home. Learning in a classroom setting allows the students to be in an environment where the exchange of thoughts, gestures and body language are presently building their confidence and character. Another positive effect of the expanded face-to-face learning classes is that it makes students be separated from the issues and distractions at home allowing them to solely focus on learning when inside the classroom. A time of refreshing is needed especially with the learners having to face their modules by themselves with less

As per the municipal agriculture's office monitoring, the crab prices during the pandemic ranges from 200 pesos to 250 pesos per kilo instead of 600 pesos or 650 pesos per kilo. supervision and less discipline. The idea of waking up early, taking a shower, eating breakfast, and going to school already prepares the learners' mood and mindset to learn and have fun with their classmates and friends. It is in the school and the classroom leadership and camaraderie is molded in a student’s character. Indeed, it is a challenging season we are in but still, not impossible to make way for learners to have their share of knowledge and wisdom that will equip them for the higher level of education. Currently, most of the schools in Davao City has been preparing for the expanded face-to-face learning classes after the city has lowered down to alert level 1 following the main protocol and standards in the DepEd-DOH join Memorandum Circular 001, s. 2021. May this be the morning light that ever goes brighter for us to embrace and live the new normal life.

ALA, LANAO DEL NORTE --Some 1,261 couples said ‘I do’, Sunday (March 20), in a mass wedding ceremony organized by the local government unit (LGU) of Lala town and its partner, a non-government organization, Everca Foundation. The ceremony came after the national inter agency task force on COVID-19 placed Lanao del Norte’s pandemic risk status to alert level. The town has zero covid cases since the start of 2022. Wearing their bridal gown and a coat and tie, the couple, coming from the 27 barangays in Lala, started coming to the venue at the ground of the town center as early as 4:00 am to prepare for the ceremony to be officiated by town Mayor Angel Yap. The LGU provided them their gowns and suits and helped them in preparing and processing their marriage license and other pertinent papers. Yap said, the mass wedding, dubbed as Kasalan Ng Bayan, is the highlight of 73rd founding anniversary celebration of Lala that aims to legalize the marriage of the couple in Lala who have been living together. “Making your marriage legal is also a gift to your children,” Yap said in his message. Couple Erlan Espinosa and Mary Ann Pobadora has been living in for 12 years. They have three children aged 8, 5 and 3 years old. Espinosa is a person with disability (PWD). He was born without two legs. He came to the venue of the mass wedding on a wheelchair. Espinosa, a fisherman of Barangay

Pacita, said they attempted to get wed earlier of their relationship but it was pushed through because their income is not enough. Pobadora is a plain housewife. “Akoang income igo ra man ipamalit og pagkaon ug ubang panginahanglan sa pamilya,” Espinosa said in an interview. Another couple, Roger Francisco, 62 and Jovy Amador, 53, are also living together for 14 years. Francisco, a trisikad driver, said their financial status is also a challenge why he was not able to give Jovy a wedding she dreamed of. “Human aning kasal, mag-drive napud ko’g sikad kay wala mi bugas, aron makapalit mi og bugas. Wala nami selebrasyon kay wala,” Francisco said. Like the newly-wed Espinosa couple, the Francisco couple has only one purpose of participating in the mass wedding: to get married legally. Vice Mayor Cesar Yar, Jr. in his message said he appreciated the couples to get wed in the mass wedding because it only showd they are interested to be legally married. “ This will make the government recognize your children and entitled them to your income, social security benefits, health and life insurance, pension, joint tax return and othe benefits as couple,” Vice Mayor Yap said in his message. “Akoang panghinaut nga ipataliwala ninyo sa inyong kaminyoon ang Diyos, ipalabi ang kalipay sa inyong kapikas ug modesisyon nga magpabiling nahigugma bisan sa mga pagsulay,” the vice mayor added.

Sometimes, we might ask ourselves: What is the sense of doing this and that? What is the meaning of life? I am sure, each and every one of us looks for a good life. When you’re struggling in life, take assurance in the fact that everyone else struggles like you do. We may not have similar struggles, but it’s still a struggle nonetheless. If struggles didn’t exist, we’d have no way to appreciate the beauty and wonders of life. Sometimes, we seem to remain very optimistic. We think it’s easy to always find a good life. Most of the time, we are in doubt or, we even choose to be unhappy without any reason at all. To wake up in the morning with pessimism and fall asleep at night, dissatisfied and unhappy - yes, that makes life miserable. Face it: Living a good life is not living a life without problems. Living a good life comes from acknowledging, facing, and then transcending each problem as it comes. If you let the problems get you down, you’ll always be down. Choose instead to let the problems get you up, get you going, and get you working on solving them On the other hand: With-

out happiness and satisfaction there is indeed no space for peace in our hearts and minds. Therefore there is no domestic harmony and logically, no peace on earth. The meaning of happiness is trying to manage life even with big problems, difficulties and trials. I learned this from Filipinos after staying in the Philippines as an expatriate for good since 1999.I was really surprised to experience mutual happiness, friendship, love, unity and communal spirit with relatives in my surroundings. Even during the really not easy last three years. Of course, I also found myself in very negative situations. I observed people, who seem to live an easy go lucky way of life. But, they were like actors and actresses on stage, wearing incredible masks and pretending to be what they are not. Hence, in Greek, they are the so-called hypocrites. Maybe also you and I belong to them from time to time. Fear of rejection or displeasure of other people are becoming our daily friends. In society, it’s called “good public relations”. Politely greeting and smiling with a set of purpose: to win them there for business.

William Congreve (16701729), English dramatist shaped the English comedy of manners through his brilliant comic dialogue, his satirical portrayal of the war of the sexes, and his ironic scrutiny of the affectations of his age. His major plays were The Old Bachelor (1693), The Double-Dealer (1693), Love for Love (1695), and The Way of the World (1700).In his “Preface to Dryden”, he wrote: No mask like open truth to cover lies as to go naked is the best disguise. So, what really counts for us in life? Success? Power? Strength? Money? Is it contentment? Is it peace on earth? Is it peace in our homes? Zest for life? Let us go through life’s journey: From time to time, we have been babies bubbling like a brook on the first blush of spring. We hurried up, unaware of problems and troubles, being unconscious of time, as adults we worried and became conscious of money. Then, suddenly, we looked at our faces, the first wrinkles, and the bald See WORLD, page 11

Kim’s Dream Veritas Liberabit Vos! (The Truth Shall Set Us Free)

Let us Reflect Now on Painful Realities

As the 2022 Election is fast approaching, it behooves upon all of us to reflect on some socio-economic, ecological and political issues which have been hidden from us all these years as there are so much dissemination of gospel of lies and wrong information. In fact, when I exposed some of these issues as a studentleader-journalist in the ‘70s, I was put behind bars for telling the truth. It was then the period of Martial Law and I remember writing an article entitled, a Barrio in a Cage, a story about Panalsalan, a barrio in Maramag, Bukidnon, which had been enclosed by a rich, influential Congressman then from the Visayas with 6-feet barb wire, making the barrio as the Congressman’s ranch. I took pictures showing cows mixing with pupils at the elementary school or even entering a chapel during Sunday mass. The cows were the first to harvest the vegetables and crops, leaving the barrio people, the Higaonons, hungry and poor as ever. In fact, out of desperation, the father of a family mixed poison,

Thiodan, in the food of his family at dinnertime and then committed suicide to join the family in the afterlife. Another sad tale was on how a father of a family had gone crazy and burnt his house. My advocacy to expose such painful societal truth was used against me by influential people, then put me in jail. Inside the prison cell, I wrote a poem, Veritas Liberabit Vos (The Truth Shall Set Us Free) Such bitter experience turned me into a passionate writer which I carried as a Columnist, writing articles about “Veritas” that intend to motivate the readers to act to be set free out of painful realities which came about because of the people’s apathetic attitude. When people are informed and conscienticized, collective actions follow. This had been the case of the ecological people in the uplands of Cagayan de Oro when upon knowing that indeed, there was no such thing as rule of law in environment, they readily took direct actions through human barricades to stop the massive flow of illegally-

cut logs. No less than His Eminence Archbishop Antonio Ledesma, S.J., who was then a priest and the Director of SEARSOLIN in 1991 reported to us that some fifty ten-wheeler trucks carrying illegally cut logs were passing Cagayan de Oro from one o’clock to five o’clock in the morning as he instructed his staff to monitor. When a security guard took pictures of these trucks, an armed escort ran after the guard. Thus, no way can deforestation be stopped but through people’s direct actions. For ten-years, human barricades went on, beginning first in 1991 with some 300 farmers, Indigenous Peoples and fisherfolk, lying in the street and dared logging trucks to run-over them before these 50 logging trucks every night could pass. Then, in 1999, the number of barricades went up to 6,000 and finally, we put in clear categorical term the statement, “The people united can never be defeated.” Finally, the rule See REFLECT, page 11

ELCAC, best legacy of Duterte Administration, says 10IB by JASPER MARIE O. RUCAT

MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL-One of the best legacies of the Duterte Administration is the Executive Order 70 or the Whole-of-Nation Approach to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC), said 1Lt Aries Manalili, Civil Operations Officer of the 10th Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army. In the third episode of Let’s Talk MisOcc, virtual media forum, March 16, Manalili shared through ELCAC, “Maputol natin kung ano man ang root causes ng insurgency (We can cut whatever is the root causes of insurgency).” “We are now able to go to places we were not able to reach before. Because of ELCAC, communities living in far flung areas are able to enjoy and avail of the basic services of the government,” he said. Projects in these areas include barangay development programs, particularly

roads, water system, health centers, barangay centers, and others. A total of 97 former rebels surrendered in the province recently. Based on interviews of former rebels, Manalili shared they were recruited by the local communist armed group or the New People’s Army (NPA) because of poverty and lack of support from the government. As for those who wish to come back and live a normal life, it is important to accept them with open arms. Manalili explained they were also only victims of deception of the rebel group. “May mga pangako na ibinigay sa kanila, at dahil sa kahirapan, na-exploit sila. Imbes na makabuti sa kanilang kabuhayan, napasama pa,” he said. (There were promises given to them and because of

poverty, they were exploited. Instead of improving their livelihood, it became life devastating) Under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) and rapid re-integration program, former rebels (FRs) will receive immediate cash assistance of P15,000 and P50,000 livelihood assistance. At present, a total of 84 FRs are enrolled in the program. There are also housing projects for FRs worth P450,000 with the help of National Housing Administration (NHA) and Sustainable Livelihood Program from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for additional financial support. “Itong programa, ay laging handa at laging open, bukas palad sa ating kapatid na nandiyan pa sa kabila, na gusto nang bumalik ang kalooban at gusto nang mamuhay ng payapa at See LEGACY, page 10

3 top NPA killed, 100 flee as fighting rages in MisOr By CRIS DIAZ

JASAAN, Misamis Oriental – Three top rebels of the New People's Army (NPA) were killed, more than 100 evacuated as gun battle continues in the hinterland villages of Jasaan in Misamis Oriental, local officials said Saturday. Town Mayor Redentor Jardin, of Jasaan said, that the fighting reportedly started Friday morning in Natubo, Jasaan, a village in the boarder of San Nicolas, another farflung village part of the town of Balingasag,

Misamis Oriental. Jardin said that he was surprised on receiving the report considering that the reported armed skirmishes in the hinterlands of Jasaan took place about 30 years ago. "The reported armed encounter between the NPA and the military in Jasaan was an isolated one," Jardin said while confirming the reported evacuation of about 35 families to a safer ground. Village Chief Francisco Luntiao, of Natubo, said that 35 families composed

of about 130 individuals have evacuated to the village center and were extended food packages. Luntiao said that the residents of the affected villages would be allowed to return to their farms and homes only after the military issued a clearance to return home. Lt. Col. Ricky L. Canatoy, Commanding Officer of the 58th Infantry Battalion, said that the first encounter occurred at 7 a.m. in the hinterlands of Barangay Plaridel, Claveria in Misamis See FIGHTING, page 11

Over 300 MisOr villagers return home after Army-NPA clash By NEF LUCZON, PNA

Some 325 residents from two barangays in the Misamis Oriental town of Jasaan have returned to their homes after an encounter between government troops and communist rebels has ceased. In a statement released Monday, 1Lt. Vincent Mark Maddul, Army’s 58th Infantry Battalion (58IB) civilmilitary operations officer, said the residents came from Sitios Cogon and Alangit of Barangays Natubo and San Nicolas, respectively. “The local government unit (LGU) of Jasaan provided food packs to 140 residents from Sitio Cogon and Sitio Alangit, as well as 185 residents from Barangay San Nicolas, who have all safely returned to their respective homes,” Maddul said. On March 18, the residents fled their homes when 58IB troopers clashed with New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas in Barangay Plaridel, Claveria town, which was adjacent to Barangays Natubo and San Nicolas in Jasaan. Residents started returning to their homes last Sunday after the LGU, together with the 58IB, declared the area as cleared. Lt. Col. Ricky Canatoy, 58IB commander, assured residents that no harm will happen in their communities after their return. “You have nothing to worry about. As your Philippine Army will continue to uphold its duty to ensure the safety and protection of every individual in the

DSWD, DOH boost programs to aid PWUDs

C

By REXCELLE L. TOLENTINO

AGAYAN DE ORO– The Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD) through the Department of Social Welfare (DSWD)10, Department of Health (DOH)-10, local government units (LGUs), and other national offices takes part in the recovery of drug users or persons who use drugs (PWUDs) through community reintegrations as well as the Yakap Bayan Program. Maria Dolores Mercado

of DOH-10 said LGUs are currently certifying the Community Based Rehabilitation Program (CBRP) implementations with municipal health officers and the city health officers in accordance to the Municipal Anti-Drug Abuse Council (MADAC) and City AntiDrug Abuse Council (CADAC), during the Lambo Dyes radio program, March 18. The CBRP is a response which does not practice confinement of PWUDs

with moderate to low risk drug dependency. Alongside the provision of treatment and care, rehabilitation is performed within the community where support and presence of family and the society is visible and felt. This was implemented after research studies where community reintegration resulted in a more effective and faster recovery of PWUDs. Aside from this, PWUDs also undertake screening beforehand to be provided with the right and case-centered intervention. PWUDs

Upgraded technology in the ‘new normal’ By: DINALYN A. RAMAYRAT Administrative Aide VI

The social media has indeed greatly impacted and affected our lives today, greatly including the lives and behavior of our young ones, our school children, our pupils. In this digital age, mostly every one of us have cellular phones, Twitter, Facebook, and are knowledgeable enough to handle and manage differing and various social media sites in the world wide web. Yes, it has advantages and disadvantages. On the other hand, at school, we can always integrate the use of the internet

and the social media to our pupils. We can give them sites and pages that they can study over and visit and learn something from it. That is why, teachers must do the research first, check the page or what before suggest it to the pupils. We must be the one who will screen it first. As we cannot control what these pupils would do while using the internet, it is of great deed that should remind them of the pros and cons when doing such. We should always lead to social networking sites that would best fit their taste.

Educating Children: Nurturing Minds By: MARITES ROBLE PACATANG Teacher III MONHS, Balingasag North DepEd Misamis Oriental

The Covid-19 pandemic has brought a number of societal challenges, including poverty alleviation and education. Education is one of the most important factors in our children’s ability to not only survive, but also to succeed in society. As a result of the smart up-and-comers, a civilization can prosper. Learning how to digest and integrate knowledge is a key effort that kids do from the earliest days, nevertheless, depending exclusively on instructors to carry out this duty might be damaging to the process. During a crisis, a strong community school provides a safe place for children and families. Children are not left alone at home while their parents are working; instead, they attend school under adult supervision. Schools are often designed with kid safety in mind and can be utilized for other community activities for families, such as athletics and a playground. On the other hand, the more talented youngsters in a family who can read, write, solve problems, and comprehend information, the faster that family and

future generations will be able to break free from poverty. This is because as adults, the children will be able to work in higherpaying positions and will have more possibilities than their parents. In poor homes, where day-to-day survival is the primary concern, education is sometimes overlooked. Parents who are non-literates are considerably less likely to emphasize school attendance, support high school, and break established gender norms to help their daughters study. When a kid has a good education, he or she is more likely to pass on their knowledge to their own children. They are more likely to start exposing their children to more advanced learning opportunities at an early age. In their family culture, education is likely to become a higher priority and expectation.

Also sites that would uplift their moral and good values is best plus they can read and learn short stories and then probably encourage them to apply and follow it. Exactly, we do not have the control over our pupils but we can always remind them to be always good and be responsible when using the internet, the most encourage them to think before they click sites

and pages. As teachers, we should always remind them to use this new technology for their own development and betterment. As these new discoveries have positive effects, we should not forget that they will surely have negative impacts as well and that it depends on them on how they will use it. The best, we should always guide our pupils and bring them to their desired path.

Online Class: An Efficient Method of Delivering Content By: ELLA MARIE L. CABANLIT District ALS Coordinator Initao North District DepEd Misamis Oriental

A conducive learning environment is an important motivator in the teaching and learning process of the educational system. It is worth emphasizing that professional instructors, who also function as curriculum implementers, primarily administer the curriculum, or content of the school syllabus, within the classroom’s four walls. Based on the forms, shapes, courses, and academic atmosphere in which they are placed, formal classroom systems may be found at every stronghold of learning across the world, whether established or developing. Students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds come together to learn in the classroom, which is a key, effective, and successful socialization tool. Education must continue despite the global health crisis. The Secretary of the Department of Education, Leonor M. Briones, has issued a strong statement. Teachers’ determination to adapt to the changing landscape of learning is fueled by their determination and to never stop learning. The traditional face-to-face classroom has given way to the virtual classroom. Teachers adopted communication technology to interact with students and continue to fulfill their obligations and responsibilities of providing educational services at

the learners’ doorsteps. In order for education to continue, communication technology is critical. In addition, many faculty members and learners do not see the value of fully online learning, even though online learning has been around for many decades. During the current global health crisis, many instructors have had to improvise quick online learning solutions. Some instructors, for example, merely uploaded their PowerPoint slides or papers into a learning management system and advise students to read them on their own. Other instructors recorded their own lectures and instructed learners to asynchronously watch the video lectures and then ask individual questions later. Still others talked for more than two hours via synchronous video platforms watched by students in their respective homes. Although these online methods may be an efficient method of delivering content, they are not particularly effective in promoting active learning and interest.

The Impact of Instructional Leadership amid COVID 19 Pandemic By: RHEALYN M. VALLEJO ALS Mobile Teacher Manticao District DepEd Misamis Oriental

The global health crisis brought by COVID-19 has wreaked havoc on all educational systems worldwide and resulted in vast changes. During School Year 2020-2021, the perspective of teaching and learning has shifted. The restriction of face-toface learning intervention has had a significant impact. As a result, it altered its concentration to provide educational services through various Distance Learning Delivery Modalities. Due to the absence and or limited capacity for face-to-face classroom observation, the instructional supervision prepared the way for Alternative Classroom Observations for SY 20202021, as indicated in a supplemental document on the RPMS School Year 2020-2021 at the time of COVID-19. To prevent the spread of the coronavirus, it stressed remote instructional supervision. Furthermore, this pandemic has produced an environment in which most of us, regardless of where we are in the globe, are still going through the five stages of grieving. What we know now is that this distant learning experience is not going away anytime soon in many cities and provinces. It is time to move toward acceptance so that we can salvage some form of good learning experience at this time and use the new knowledge we have gained to improve the learning environment for learners. The Alternative Classroom Observations Manual for School Year 2020-2021 is designed to

help teachers and other instructional supervisors through remote instructional supervision for School Year 2021-2022 until everyone is safe during the pandemic. During the serious health problems brought on by the COVID 19 pandemic, there are three choices for classroom observation. This alternate classroom observation through an online platform was created with enthusiasm by the DepEd Central Office. To begin, hold an online class using Google Meet, Zoom, or any other platform that is convenient for both learners and teachers. Second, in the absence of the students, a recorded video lesson of the teacher in the actual classroom with teaching materials. Third, a LAC session will be held during which the teacher’s TVBI or RBI will be given, and the LAC committee will make ideas for improving the class. They will also applaud the teacher for an outstanding lesson presentation. Whatever alternative the teacher prefers, the school administrators and other supervisors’ instructional leadership have a substantial impact on the teacher’s ability to teach effectively and produce globally competitive Filipino learners.

Indulging creativity in solving problems By: TERESITA L. PAGADOR

Creativity is the ability to come up with original ideas. In other words, you can think in new ways, and come up with strategies that aren’t conventional. While it can sometimes feel like a huge burden to be so profoundly affected by what’s going on around you, your intuitive nature also lets you tap into your creativity. You might be the person who's always carrying a notebook around. Or maybe you’d benefit from having a whiteboard in your office to capture and brainstorm ideas. As a creative person, you’re deeply in tune with your inner world and this can lead to fascinating breakthroughs, inno-

vative solutions to problems and a unique sense of clarity most of your coworkers don’t get to experience. Once you feel comfortable accessing your creative side, more colleagues will turn to you for inspiration when they feel stuck. First, understand that you’re not the only person on your team — and you’re certainly not the only team member capable of coming up with creative ideas. You can easily boost your total creative potential by improving creativity in both yourself and the people around you. This means applying the same strategies to your team that you’re applying to yourself and fostering

an environment that both encourages and rewards creative thinking from employees. Of course, one must always remember that no matter how naturally creative you are, your mind is still going to be limited based on your current knowledge, perspectives and experiences. If you want to expand your creative horizons, you need to talk to other people who have different sets of knowledge, perspectives and experiences. See the world through their eyes and ask what they think about your current dilemmas; they may have valuable insights that can lead you to a new solution.

mag, Bukidnon where the Higaonons, who were once masters of the land became the slaves of a powerful rancher. This is even truer now in the life of some 13 million member-consumerowners (MCOs) of so-called Electric Cooperatives who until now are deprived of ownership of their respective ECs. Such is the height of social injustice, a Trojan Horse perpetuating a historical deception to some 13 million MCOs with a critical mass of 55 million people in a family of five. As then Chairman of the Cooperative Development Authority, I followed no less than the Father of Cooperativism in the country, Sen. Aquilino “Nene” Pimentel to correct a social wrong in the existence of these so-called Electric Cooperatives which are cooperatives in name only and are not following the time-honored and universally-accepted cooperative principles and values. That move has earned the ire of Cartel and Oligarchs and in connivance with those in power, filed a case against me in the Ombudsman and I was found guilty for doing my job. Yes, my aim is to rectify a social wrong which can only be done thru cooperativism but any attempt to do this will merit a corresponding countermeasure from the Cartel and its strong cabal of vested interest. If such will be championed by an office that has been mandated to promote the viability of the cooperatives as instrument of social justice, equity and economic development, the head of that office will surely be subjected to endless harassments. Just like in the Panalsalan case, he may go to prison for just doing his job. But, no problem! At the end, Veritas Liberabit Vos!

To provide multifactorial interventions, DSWD partners with technical working groups for the recovery and reintegration of PWUDs namely Philippine Information Agency (PIA), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), DOH, Department of Education (DepEd), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and other national agencies that have mandates on appropriate services and programs needed. “It requires multi-sectoral community based st r ate g i e s to i mprove PWUD’s social functioning and well-being, and their relationship and interaction with the people around them,” Edgar Requilme of DSWD-10 said. Currently, there are eight active LGUs in Region 10 that replicated the YBP as confirmed by Requilme, namely the municipality of Tudela, Kapatagan, Jasaan, Misamis Oriental, Binuangan, Sugbongcogon, and Salay. Requilme also urges more LGUs to join the YBP implementation. destinations to thrive. “In general, kung daghan turista, daghan kaayo’g maka-supply og gulay, karne, ug other things dinha [sa] surrounding areas. Daghan kaayo gyud siya’g benefits to the local community.” (In general, lots of tourists mean there will be more businesses that supply meat, produce, and other things in surrounding areas. It brings so many benefits to the local community.) Unchuan also said the diving industry also indirectly contributes to the food security of nearby communities, which is why the agency consults and coordinates with the local government, fishermen, and stakeholders themselves. At present, DOT-10 is promoting its accredited dive sites in Camiguin, Balingoan, and Medina which are known for their coral reefs, and the presence of sea creatures such as nudibranchs and the Hawksbill turtle, Unchuan said. The regional director encouraged all to visit and rediscover local tourist destinations, citing once again its impact on people and communities near them. “I’d really like to appeal once again to everybody to please patronize our local destinations, our local products. Know that you are, every step of the way, helping out our tourism stakeholders, our tourism employees, and our vendors,” Unchuan said. (GDA/ PIA-10)

FM Davao City Disaster Radio, she noted that construction works are ongoing for the building’s interiors. It is the first regional museum of the NMP, which is based in Metro Manila, she said. Of the total budget, she said P100 million came from the Office of the President and the other half from the budget of the NMP. She said the management

of the NMP is already in the planning phase on what artefacts or artworks will be featured at the museum here. “It is expected that it’s going to be the same as the national museum in Manila – it’s not only local history but also national history (that will be displayed),” she said. She said the museum will charge visitors no entrance fees. Called the “National Museum of the Philippines in Davao City,” the structure, located within the People’s Park compound, will feature artworks of famous visual artists and the history of the Philippines. In her last State of the City Address last March 17, Mayor Sara Duterte said the local government is “honored that the National Museum of the Philippines chose to build a national museum in Davao City.” The City Planning and Development Office said in a statement that the museum will be another landmark of the city with its futuristic durian-inspired exterior design. It will showcase the rich and vibrant local and national history of the country, it noted. (Antonio L. Colina IV / MindaNews)

Hall and Educational Development Center recently conducted a mission visit in Cagayan de Oro City. During the event, Moreno shared with the USAID and EDC teams and members of Out-of-School Youth Development Alliance (OSYDA) the city’s journey of youth development and creation back then of the Technical Education and Skills Development and Employment Committee (TESDEC) in an aim to gather together organizations that offer services on technical education and skills development. These offices include Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), alternative learning system of Department of Education (DepEd-ALS), and offices in the City Government that provides services on youth development. Moreno thanked the partners present for their services to the out-of-school youth in the city saying, “Thank you for the partnership. Thank you for the harmony. Teamwork and

harmony really do wonders." For their part, Dr. David Hall shared that he is as well thankful to the youth in Cagayan de Oro City for their enthusiasm and commitment that they have to move their lives forward. He is hopeful that the pandemic will ease this year since it is one of the greatest challenges currently faced by USAID O2. “So, we hope in 2022, we can get to do more plans. In Cagayan de Oro, the momentum is already going through the great work of all the stakeholders here, but we hope to raise more to a greater level, to engage more youth, to have more youth work immersion, and also to launch it beyond that so that the youth can fulfill their true potentials,” he said. Hall also addressed a message to the out-of-school youth. He told them that USAID Opportunity 2.0, along with OSYDA and all of the stakeholders in Cagayan de Oro are there to help them, and there is no need to feel lost. “There’s no need to feel that there is no way forward. We have mounted a system for the opportunities that are there for you. So please take note and we would love to celebrate your success,” Hall said. O2 or Opp or tunity 2.0 is a program by the United States Agency for International Development that strengthens existing educational and skills development systems in the Philippines to provide second-chance education to out-of-school youth. Oro media toured to flood control mega projects of 1st district By ERCEL MAANDIG

This is just one of the major projects being financed and coursed through the office of Cagayan de Oro City Rep. Rolando Uy: a storm drain in barangay Carmen, an esplanade along Cagayan river where a weekend night market will be erected, a farm to market road in barangay Pagatpat and a flood control dike along Iponan river. All in all, Uy was able to facilitate the construction of 92.12 kilometers of farm to market roads during his term. photo by mark francisco

AGAYAN de OroSome local media here experienced a tour to some Mega and billion worth of projects in the first district of the city which are projects lobbied by Representative Rolando “Klarex” Uy on Saturday. The team toured to 4 of the mega projects such as a huge drainage system in Lerio-Mabolo Streets in the village of Carmen here, the Php500 Million worth esplanade project located at Ilaya in Carmen village as well and river flood control projects in the villages of Lumbia and Iponan. In a document we got from the staff of the congressional office, aside from the latter, there is also a 92.12 kilometers road concreting which are farm to market roads under the Build,Build,Build project of the Duterte administration who are now finished and some are ongoing. Among the said projects, the biggest is the river esplanade. According to Mr.Bencyrus Ellorin; Cong.Uy’s head of the

media bureau said that that the said project can give avenue to small entrepreneur in the city since it is a proposed recreational area with facilities from restos to cafe’s but it can’t compare to the previously market area dubbed as “Night Cafe” in Dv Soria during the administration of then Mayor Vicente Emano.Ellorin reiterated that this recreational facility is much better than Night Cafe. City’s esplanade is a park where residents of the city can relax and unwind, they can buy foods to eat and some stuff to choose from its kiosk display because esplanade is an open space where people can breathe fresh air long the river. The river esplanade is part of JICA funded flood risk management project that the construction is still going on.Unlike the Night Cafe, the esplanade will put up portalets to address better sanitation of the area,Ellorin concluded. Once it will finished, surely this could be a popular night spot in the city.
