BUTUAN CITY – The New People’s Army rebels here continue to weaken as their food supplies, ammunition, and grenades were intercepted anew by the operatives of the government. Brig General Romeo Caramat, Jr, Director of the Police Regional Office-13, said three couriers were arrested after they were seen transporting the rebel supplies Purok 1B, Barangay Pianing, Butuan City. Dagium, the top military official said, was a Barangay Councilor in Barangay

Magsaysay, Sibagat, Agusan del Sur, while Marencillo was a resident of Purok 1, barangay Mount Ararat in Bayugan City. Caramat said the arrested couriers were members of the Regional Sentro de Gra-

bidad of the North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee of the NPA. Intercepted by the military included the following: 4,800 pieces AK-47 live ammunition, two rifle grenades, three motorcycles,

and assorted food supplies. “The joint operation was launched after we received a report on the transportation of the ammunition and the movement of the NPA rebels in the area,” Caramat said in a statement. - PNA

DAVAO CITY - The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) will formally ask the Israeli Government through the Israeli Embassy in the Philippines for technical support in crafting Mindanao’s Water Management and Conservation Plan. Secretary Emmanuel Piñol said the request, which will be coursed through the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), will be made following the suggestion of Israel’s Ambassador-Designate to the Philippines, Ilan Fluss, for a deeper engagement between Israel and Mindanao in the area of water conservation and management. “Ambassador Fluss made the suggestion during the opening on Aug. 7 of the 5-Session Online Course on Water Conservation and Management conducted by Israel’s International Development Agency, MASHAV, for Mindanao Governors, Mayors and decision-makers,” he said. The proposed Mindanao Water Conservation and Management Plan, according to Piñol, is part of MinDA advocacies to ensure sustainable water supply both for households and agriculture. He said in Israel, there is only one agency, the Israel Water Authority, which handles all matters pertaining to water, from generation, distribution, utilization for households and irrigation, recycling, desalination and even catching water vapors.

The Israel Water Authority is composed of several ministries whose operations would involve water concerns, among them the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment, Water Resources, the Interior and Finance. “It would include the establishment of a database for satellite generated images and data, including ground data gathering, on critical watersheds, threatened water sources, communities with low access to water and projections on the water requirements of the agriculture sector to sustain productivity,” the MinDA chief added. Apart from that, it will also include data gathering on Mindanao’s forest cover and ways to re-green the deforested and denuded mountains through community-supported sustainable programs. The program is aimed to ensure secure sources of water for Mindanao’s population and its agriculture sector, which contributes 46% of the country’s food requirements. When completed, the Mindanao Water Conservation and Management Digital Database will be made available to the region’s Governors, Mayors and decision-makers so that there would be a unified approach to addressing the water problem. “The basic operating philosophy states that the country’s water resources are See SEEKS, page 10

Divine Purpose of the Universe Now Unfolding

WHATEVER be the form, all life is sacred as creation is a reflection of the Creator, each one carrying a sense of divinity. Thus, every time you eat meat – be it red or white – please reflect for a while that that meat came from a life form that once did breathe, having experienced in its own right pleasures and pains, exposed to the wonders of life, having felt the warmth of the sun, the coolness of the wind, the brightness of the moon and the stars at night, tasting food from the loving touch of the raisers and finally, had to succumb to the pains of shedding blood as its throat had to be cut – all because you must eat and live. When one has to cease breathing, be if flora or fauna, so that Homo Sapiens have to live, i.e., giving-up one’s life so that another creation can live, that unescapable drama of life must be reflected upon by all of us that somehow contributes to the sacredness of life that only our Creator knows its reason for being. That truism alone shows why one must pray before meals. Perhaps, that too should be in the mind of a hungry lion before eating a cornered prey especially if that victim is a human

being. One has to die so that another creation has to live. That alone may justify the killing of an animal. Life for life. But when the flora and fauna are massacred to prove one’s dominion over nature, to be sacrificed to the altar of greed and profit, or worse, for sports, that is a categorical manifestation of a human being, having been made in the likeness and image of God, to be reduced to a mere beast! Yes, the Homo Sapiens is a failed species. This latest species that came about some 700 million years ago while plants and animals came about some 3 to 4 billion years earlier (thus, by seniority they have more right to live) has done so much harm to Mother Earth. Yes, we are now in the 21st year of the 21st century but we do not know any more if we can reach the 22nd century which is only 79 years from now. To quote a known Canadian environmentalist, “. . . at the rate we are destroying the ozone layer and the world’s resource base and subjecting to extinction some 100 species of flora and fauna every day, what seems unimaginable may become possible, which is,

Orlan R. Ravanera

the end of life on earth.” In the Philippines, the fourth hardest hit by climate change, the reality painfully bites: we have massacred the billions of life forms in the last one hundred years, turning the country from paradise, being before the richest in terms of megadiversity, now to a land of ecological disasters. A more precise declaration from a Lumad leader foretelling of an impending disaster if we continue on sacrificing nature in the name of so-called progress: “Only when you have cut the last tree, only when you have caught the last fish, only when you have dried the last river, only then will you realize that you cannot eat your money.” A colony for more than three hundred years, having supplied the timber needs of the world in the past one hundred years and now glaringly a neo-colony of imperial powers, we have committed the biggest massacre of all times, erasing all endemic life in the 17 million hectares of dipterocarp forest. Inner struggles

LET’s not fool ourselves: The pandemic has completely turned our entire lives upside down. Private, social and in business. Inner struggles for many of us are the bitter result. An inner struggle reflects an unresolved emotional conflict, an inner knot that has been cystic and that must be clarified in order to have peace and well-being. What is the result of an internal struggle? Frustration, frequent changes in mood and psychological fatigue (it is tiring to load with a frequent question) and anger. But it is also a stimulus to deepen the knowledge of oneself. In essence, an internal fight shows an internal opposition, an opposition of contrary forces that steal the inner tranquility, serenity and peace. Therefore, in a situation like this it is very important to hear those sentiments to put ideas in order. A person may also experience an inner struggle when there is an internal debate between duty and the crave order. How many times, you want to give up? Ask yourself? Similarly, it is also possible to experience this internal struggle into an existential crisis. There are personal dis-

agreements in the daily routine, as shown by the difficulties of coexistence: partner discussions, differences in criteria with friends, anger of family... . However, it is important to point out that the relationship that a person has with others, part of the bond that has with itself beyond individuality. Every human being establishes a constant relationship with their own identity. In this way, a process of self-knowledge is established. The inner world of a human being is very complex, marked by duality and constant struggles. In other words, a person can feel an inner struggle between reason and heart. Inner conflicts typically begin with statements such as “I am sick of, I always or I am so tired of ” and it is not unusual for them to be accompanied by some jaw clenching, an occasional rant or stomp of the foot. Everyone has a unique problem of their own, an issue that follows them throughout life and never goes away. You discover it early and go on to struggle with it for the rest of your life, almost until it eventually becomes an old enemy that you lose the will

Klaus Doring

to fight or hate anymore. There are environments that are especially suitable to reflect calmly on oneself. For example, take a stroll through a green area and walk. Or, I talk with family members. They are experiencing the same struggles - young and old. Or, I pray and talk to God. Fortunately analysis is not the only way to resolve inner conflicts. Life itself still remains a very effective therapist. Allow me to quote F. Scott Fitzgerald: “I hope you live a life you’re proud of, and, if you find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start over!” Yes, hopefully the struggle we’re in today is developing the strength we need for tomorrow. Lt General Greg Almerol, chief of the Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMinCom) said in a statement that the death of alias Asyong of the SYP Platoon 16C1, Guerrilla Front 16, North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC) of the NPA rebels, is now weakened. DOST helps expand Food Innovation Center in Northern Mindanao By MA. CRISTINA ARAYATA

MANILA – A new building will soon rise at the Northern Mindanao Food Innovation Center (NM-FIC) of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) main campus in Cagayan de Oro City. “The additional building and equipment will be for the complementary food production, and the expansion of the food laboratory testing,” Misamis Oriental Science and Technology Director Junelyn Louvena Ruiz told the Philippine News Agency on Friday afternoon.

She said the new building is expected to be finished by August 2022. The Department of Science and Technology (DOST), she said, provided major equipment, as well as technical consultation and services to develop food products. It has also been assisting in the development of packages or brochures. “The NM-FIC is the first in Northen Mindanao. Among its services include new product development, product improvement, equipment rentals,” she said. The DOST has also been assisting in processing the

GEBS in DepEd Bukidnon By JENEDY S. HUMAYNON, Teacher I Manolo Fortich National High School

Bukidnon – The Department of Education (DepEd) Division of Bukidnon proves once more that as the heart of Mindanao, it deserves to be dubbed as a place “where love and joy never die” as the schools division adopts the flagship program called GEBS (Good Education in Beautiful Schools). Introduced by current Schools Division Superintendent Randolph B. Tortola, the GEBS has immediately gained support and popularity since its inception in February 2021. By virtue of Division Memorandum No. 38, s. 2021, otherwise known as the Good in Education in Beautiful Schools (GEBS) with Good Education in Beautiful Classrooms (GEBC), the program was intended to be implemented by and among all schools of the division of Bukidnon with the perspective to set in schools and classrooms the ambience of welcoming conduciveness, despite the restrictions on face-to-face classes brought by the pandemic. The said program is also projected to be an ideal avenue

for school heads and teachers alike to muster the art of resiliency, despite the change of the teaching-learning landscape, and also an opportunity to unleash more creativity among teachers as “CoVID time is the best time to beautify schools since children have no face to face classes.” GEBS and GEBC priorities include but do not limit to replacement of busted bulbs, lamps electrical lines, door knobs, window slides, rotten ceilings and walls, repair of chairs/ desks, tables and other classroom amenities, repainting of walls, ceilings, doors, flagpoles, fences, and gates, updating of school signages and billboards, and landscaping and beautification. Tortola’s staunch advocacy on GEBS and GEBC is anchored on his banner agenda famously called the Bukidnon Bulls. Such idealism inspires every teacher worker of Bukidnon division to characterize the bull’s attitude in dealing with situations such as “dream, observe, strategize and attack” especially in these challenging times of the pandemic.

The fee is mostly for the equipment rental, product development due to use of utilities and raw materials. Consultation could be free,” she said. According to the DOSTX, about 100 products were already developed and 1000 clients were served since the establishment of the NM-FIC in 2015. Inaction on climate change to further breed calamities By CATHERINE TEVES

MANILA – Department of Finance (DOF) Secretary and Climate Change Commission (CCC) chairpersondesignate Carlos Dominguez raised the urgency for public action on climate change, warning recent disasters from extreme weather events due to this scourge further offer a preview of what passiveness will lead to. The onslaught of deadly and devastating floods in Germany and China as well as heatwaves in the US highlight need for people to be creative, ambitious and innovative in battling climate change, he noted. “This is a battle we cannot afford to lose,” Dominguez said Tuesday at CCC’s online forum on the chang-

From Germany to China, extreme flooding caused death and destruction.” He described those disasters as “severe symptoms of a long-term climate emergency.” Such an emergency is threatening countries’ survival. Dominguez cited public climate action and literacy as the country’s greatest defense against the changing climate’s wrath. “We have to convince every individual to participate in a revolution in lifestyles so that we all reduce our carbon footprint,” he said. PCOO’S COMMUNICATIONS ACADEMY TO BREAK GROUND THIS SEPTEMBER MANILA - Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar on Saturday announced that the construction of the Government Strategic Communications Academy will finally begin this September. The first state-of-the-art training facility for government media workers and information officers is set to be built within the compound of the Northern Bukidnon State College (NBSC) in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon. Secretary Andanar bared that the PCOO project will be breaking ground this month, along with its partner agencies, including the

local government of Manolo Fortich, the NBSC, and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). “The first Government Communications Academy will finally have its groundbreaking ceremony this September. MANILA – As the campaign season for the 2022 national elections draws near, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has enacted an internal policy to safeguard its programs and services from politicking. DSWD has issued Memorandum Circular No. 09, series of 2021 or the Policy Guidelines on Strengthening Partnership with Stakeholders During Election and Non-Election Periods, in consideration of the upcoming election period and in response to perennial issues of certain programs being used for personal and political advancement. “This policy institutionalizes the Department’s previous campaign of Bawal ang Epal Dito (No to attentionseekers) which addressed election-related issues and complaints, especially on the implementation of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps),” the DSWD said in a statement

engagement of programbeneficiaries, as well as partner-organizations in ensuring that no program or service of the DSWD will be used in any personal or political activity,” the agency stated.

There were also 110 marginalized farmers who benefitted from DA’s Survival and Recovery Assistance Program for Rice Farmers (SURE Aid Program). This aims to assist the rice farmers whose incomes were affected by the drop in the farm gate price of palay. On the other hand, Mayor Uy said they are planning for the eventual cityhood of Mabinay by focusing their efforts on allowing more investors to venture in the municipality, and likewise increase job opportunities there. Mabinay town eyes agro-industrial economy shift MANILA — The local economy has to adapt to a more productive industry in order to move forward on its road to cityhood, Mabinay, Negros Oriental Mayor Joeterry Abada-Uy said on Friday. “Mabinay is eyeing to shift to agro-industrial economy because it will not work if we will just remain on what we are used to,” she said during the Network briefing News with host Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar as he discussed programs they have placed to assist the agricultural sector. ANDANAR GRATEFUL FOR PRIVATE MEDIA PARTNERSHIP: HUWAG NATING MALIITIN ANG MEDIA MANILA - The government’s partnership with private media emphasized the greater role of information dissemination efforts in saving lives during this pandemic, according to Presidential Communication Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Adanar on Friday. “Limitado po ang government media. Pero dahil sa crisis communications policy natin na Laging Handa ay nagawa po nating maiparating at maturuan ang ating mga kakabayan na kailangan mag-mask, maghugas ng kamay, at mag-physical distancing [The government media has limited reach but with our crisis communications policy, Laging Handa, we are able to reach more people and remind them to mask up, wash their hands, and observe physical distancing],” he said during an interview during the National Press Club’s Report to the Nation Media Forum.

As an initiative to reach more audiences and to deliver timely news on the COVID-19 situation of the country, the PCOO partnered with the NPC and the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) in 2020, allowing government programs to be aired on the platforms of the private media partners, and relay important messages of the government. Secretary Andanar said that media workers should not be undervalued, considering that in times of crisis they are among essential workers toiling to provide information to the public. “Just imagine kung wala yung KBP. Siguro marami namatay dahil hindi natin alam yung new normal. Wag nating mamaliitin ang media kasi kung kailangan niyo ng balita kami ang hahanapin niyo [Just imagine if we didn’t have the KBP. More people would have died because they did not

The PCOO chief also thanked the NPC and the KBP for their continued support of the government and for “carrying the torch of press freedom”. “Napakalaking tulong ng National Press Club at KBP sa ating gobyerno to remind us

I believe that freedom of the press should really be respected, and should really be fostered],” he said.

As Press Undersecretary for Operations under the administration of former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Mr. Capco was an integral communications operations planner and implementer who supervised the communications programs of the Philippine Information Agency, Bureau of Communications Services, and News and Information Bureau. A journalist through and through, he was committed to his profession, from being the editor of the University of the East’s ‘Dawn’ publications, a reporter in the Philippine Star, to an officer of the Malacañang Press Corps. He also served as the Journal Group’s Board President. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. We pray for the eternal repose of his soul.

Premier Development Corp. (IPDC) for the recovery of the seemingly troubled banana industry in the province amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic. Mastura said the venture aims to address the needs of displaced ethnic Iranun banana farmers in Buldon, Maguindanao, who were formerly contract growers under the unsuccessful AlSahar Agriventures, Inc., as well as their intention to rehabilitate and restore the banana farming infrastructure. “The target banana farmers in Buldon, Maguindanao are the growers that were displaced after the closure of Al-Sahar Agriventures, Incorporated in 2019,” Mastura said, adding that the firm was unable to continue its operation for lack of capital, marketing, and technical expertise, which made worse by the pandemic. He said the BBOI’s facilitation led to having a business understanding between the ESAC, which previously registered its own Cavendish banana plantation investments with the BBOI, and the IPDC that stands as the banana farmers’ newly-organized intermediary firm. In addition, Mastura said the ESAC, which also serves as the Iranun farmers’ marketing arm, would

provide technical and farm management expertise with the help of multinational Unifrutti Philippines, Inc. based in Davao City. “At least 200 hectares of land in Buldon, Maguindanao is expected to be replanted with Cavendish bananas for export,” Mastura said. He said at a cost of PHP1,000,000 per hectare, it is estimated to generate a total of PHP200-million investment, and the employment of some 400 people in the area. Mastura said the BBOI has further arranged for the two groups to have access to financing from the Land Bank of the Philippines and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) loan program for BARMM and conflict-affected areas under its HARVEST lending facility. HARVEST stands for Harnessing Agribusiness opportunities through Robust and Vibrant Entrepreneurship Supportive of peaceful Transformation, a five-year PHP2.12 billion development assistance from JICA that seeks to provide concessional loans to small and medium enterprises, cooperatives, and large agribusiness enterprises, among others, in the BARMM. “The BBOI also seeks to facilitate technical assistance to the farmers by JICA consultants under HARVEST,” Mastura added. DepEd Memorandum No. 048 series of 2021, the traditional concept of the Brigada was modified. MFNHS along with many other schools in the division of Bukidnon held the kick-offs virtually. Teodoro P. Casiano, Secondary School Principal II of the said school led the kick-off activity that was physically mounted at the Administration Building Frontage with few key personages involved to meet the IATF requisites. Carla D. Satur, school Brigada Eskwela Coordinator presented the rationale of the activity. Pledges of support to the Brigada Eskwela were also expressed by Jenedy

The principal also re-emphasized that although the division’s flagship programs such as the Wash in Schools (WINS) and the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) are given more priority in this year’s Brigada, school maintenance, beautification and physical preparation of classrooms should still be attended to, especially a week or two towards the opening of classes. The said activity was strategically live streamed via Face Book and shared through the school’s official page and the FEA FB group for the faculty, community and stakeholders to witness virtually.

Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI), wherein responses in a face-to-face interview are recorded in a tablet, will be utilized for the 2021 LMFLC. PSA-10 deploys field personnel for this activity throughout the region. These personnel are provided with PSA identification cards, and necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) materials such as face masks, face shields, and alcohol. They are also instructed to strictly adhere to health and safety protocols against COVID-19 such as physical distancing during interviews, wearing of PPEs, and frequent washing of hands or use of alcohol. greenhouse gases (GHGs). They said the continuing accumulation of GHG emissions in the atmosphere is further trapping heat so the global temperature is rising, changing climate. The Philippines is among the countries most vulnerable to and at risk for climate change, they noted. Sea level and temperature rise, as well as increasing onslaught of extreme weather events, are climate change’s impacts on the country, they continued. “As one of the countries most vulnerable to dire effects of climate change, the Philippines is determined to take action now,” Dominguez reiterated. The Philippines’ submission of its first nationally determined contribution (NDC) this year is among manifestations of such determination to help address climate change, he noted. “In that submission, we committed to reducing our GHG emissions by 75 percent over the next decade,” he said. He acknowledged such target reduction is “ambitious” and a considerable undertaking for the country which isn’t even a major GHG emitter. However, he said this also “underscores the urgency with which we view this greatest of challenges facing the world today.” Among GHG emissionreducing measures which the country must undertake are retiring coal-fired power

Tuesday, September 7, 2021 plants nationwide and replacing these with renewable energy sources as well as passing legislation banning single-use plastics and replacing these with environment-friendly, low-cost and sustainable materials, he said. Aside from having to undertake such domestic measures, Dominguez said the Philippines will continue raising its climate concerns before the international community. “Even as we transition to more sustainable economic activities domestically, the Philippines will continue to call for broader climate justice,” he reassured. He said the country will reiterate such a call during the UN climate conference this year. “In the upcoming climate talks with world leaders in November, we will demand climate finance, technologies, capacity development support and more ambitious NDCs from the developed countries,” he said. MFNHS celebrates 58th Founding Anniversary By JENEDY S. HUMAYNON, Teacher I Manolo Fortich National High School

Manolo Fortich – Albeit simply and virtually, Manolo Fortich National High School celebrated its 58th Founding Anniversary August 3, 2021. Commemorating the 58th year of existence as the premiere secondary school institution in this part of the municipality and the district, Manolo Fortich National High School kicked the day of with a Holy Eucharistic Celebration held in front of the school’s Administration Building around 8:00 in the morning on said date. The said activity was participated by a limited number of personages to ensure safety and compliance to IATF protocols during the pandemic. Faculty and personnel and the rest of the community witnessed the said activity on-line as it was covered live on Face Book. Immediately after the Holy Mass, Mr. Teorodo P. Casiano, new Secondary School Principal was also formally introduced to the public by Mrs. Basilides A. Pacheco, Head Teacher III. Casiano reported as new principal on August 2, 2003, a timely date for an arrival. Greetings f rom t he alumni batches, former teachers and educational leaders and the community flooded the celebration via the social media platforms, as the famous taglines from the school’s Alma Mater Hymn resonated in the air:

“Spotless Jewels of Manolo Fortich High!” Founded in 1963 under the name Manolo Fortich Municipal High School during the administration of then Municipal Mayor Eustaquio P. Domingo, the school started to operate as a result of conversion of the municipal market site into an educational facility brought by the necessity felt by the inhabitants during such time. By virtue of Resolution No. 084 s. 1981 authored by then Councilor Evelio Cordovez under the administration of then Municipal Mayor Socorro O. Acosta, the desire to nationalize the school’s budget and operation was impregnated, and in June 1983, through the efforts of Assemblyman Concordio Diel, then President Ferdinand Marcos signed the law that changed the schools name to Manolo Fortich National High School. The Online Course on Water Management and Conservation is a 5-session program of the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA), the Israel Embassy in the Philippines and the MASHAV, Israel’s International Development Agency designed for Mindanao’s decision-makers, including Governors and Mayors for a unified approach to address the water concerns of the region. “There is an urgent need to implement a cohesive water management and conservation program but this would need the participation of our legislative bodies to craft enabling laws to put everything in order. That is where we hit the wall for how meaningful legislation could be passed when our legislative bodies are inhabited by people who have direct interests or are working for groups with interests in our water resources,” Piñol emphasized.

Barangay Cagdianao, Claver in Surigao del Norte, it was learned, which lead to the death of Asyong. The military, who engaged the NPA rebels in a 25-minute skirmish, recovered Armalite rifles, AK-47 and M14 rifles with magazines and bandoliers. “We abhor the idea of bloodshed and we do not want to see another rebel dying for the sake of the communist terrorist group. Therefore, I ask the remaining NPA members to surrender peacefully instead of wasting their lives on a senseless ideology,” the military official said. Meanwhile, another NPA rebel identified as Aldo Higyawan alias Ramon, died in a separate encounter with government forces last August 29 in Barangay Lawaan, Gingoog City. Higyawan belongs to the Platoon Ryan, SRC1 of the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee. During the firefight that ensued the rebels retreated to unknown directions and the pursuing military troops recovered the rebels’ hideout. They also recovered two M16 rifles, an M14 rifle, assorted medical paraphernalia, and other documents. The hideout of the NPA rebels was tipped by a concerned citizen which led the elite forces of the government to successfully drive the rebels out to the mountains. “This is proof of the people’s genuine intent to help the government in its crusade for peace and in pushing the end of the local communist armed conflict in their communities,” the military top brass pointed out.

The importance of kindergarten By GRACE M. ARPAY Teacher I Balulang Elementary School

THE first day of school is always filled with nervous excitement. Kindergateners’ first day marks the beginning of our opportunities as teachers to support these children who will matriculate through our schools and eventually become members of our society. Kindergarten students begin their first day learning to find their seat, how and where to hang their backpack, etc. Each child enters the classroom with a different background. Some are already familiar with the alphabet, how to hold a book, write their name and are starting to read on their own. For others, kindergarten will be their first experience in

a learning environment. Kindergarten may seem early to start identifying a student as behind yet early literacy skills have a clear and strong relationship with later success in reading skills such as decoding, oral reading fluency, reading comprehension, writing and spelling. This learning begins long before our students step into our classrooms. When given the opportunity, young children can become aware of the patterns in speech, manipulate sounds in words, learn the relationship between sounds and letters and build their oral language and vocabulary skills, preparing them for success in school.

on earth, the Philippine Archipelago, became before the dumping ground of toxic industrial waste from Canada and subjected to Muro-Ami by Japanese trawlers during the Martial Law years. These life forms that constitute our ecological wealth have sustained the life of the Indigenous Peoples for thousands of years in the spirit of sharing and loving, are nowhere to be found. Oh, pity our ecological people! They are now the poorest of the poor. According to them, “. . gikan gayod kay Magbabaya ang kinaiyahan kay kini dili lamang tinubdan sa kinabuhi kung dili, mao ang kinabuhi mismo. Angay lamang gamiton sa malungtaron ng pamaagi para sa padayon sa kinabuhi kay ang tanang kinabuhi nga makitan sa kalibutan, balaan gayod.” All the dear animals, plants, fish and what have you, have lived and giving their lives so that human beings may live to fulfill God’s mandate as God’s stewards, such truism has made life so meaningful, dramatic and worth-living—all, for God’s glory. Oh my God, that wasn’t the case. All of them have been sacrificed to the altar of greed and profit for self-aggrandizement of a few powerful oligarchs to dominate the world making human beings just brutes and beasts in a world that has been characterized with so much unbridled materialism and consumerism! Life has ceased to be sacred but diabolical! What is very glaring is the truism that humanity has been captured by egoic mind and is now suffering collective insanity, imposing dominion over of God’s creation and of other races or nations. Look at the United States, gaining so much wealth out of corporate globalization, even funding both warning factions just to earn money. Powerful nations even control mainstream media that bombarded humanity with gospel of lies and misinformation, feeding chattering minds of people to satisfy ego. Human beings must now connect with the formless Being that is within all of us, as we are not just forms but whose essence is that of consciousness, an awareness presence that will unfold the divine purpose of the universe!. Indeed, life is sacred and we are that life! Indeed, as Jesus said, “the Kingdom of God is within us.”

there is no other tandem who can beat that except a Go-Duterte ticket,” Darimbang pointed out, adding that Go’s experience as a trusted confidant of the President would mean he is capable of continuing this administration’s policies. Nathalie Soldevilla, a representative from DSWD10, urged the recipients to properly handle the Bagsakan Center as this will undoubtedly assist them in supporting their daily life. LtCol Ricky Canatoy, commanding officer of 58IB, believes that the project will empower them as a community, allowing them to work together to sustain the livelihood program that has been granted to them, and be a step forward in allowing progress and development, especially since their area was categorized as one belonging to “conflict-affected areas” in the province. Prince Albert Pagara still dreams of world crown

DESPITE his current legal travails, Prince Albert Pagara still hopes to be a world champion someday. Pagara, who rose to prominence through the “Pinoy Pride” series of ALA Boxing, earlier signed an advisory deal with MTK Global and D4G Promotions along with his former ALA Gym teammate and four-division world champion Donnie Nietes. The Cebu-based outfit closed its doors August last year, due to the double whammy of the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the non-renewal of the ABS-CBN broadcast franchise which had been broadcasting the Pinoy Pride series since 2006. The outfit released all of its boxers, including Pagara, who previously held the intercontinental version of the WBO super bantamweight title. Pagara, and his older brother Jason, cut their boxing chops under the grassroots boxing training program of former Misamis Oriental Governor and now Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno but is now pinning his hopes on MTK Global and D4G Promotions to take him further. Paul Gibson, the chief strategy officer of MTK Global, called Pagara a “fantastic addition” to their super bantamweight stable. Pagara, nicknamed “Prince Albert,” is also the first Filipino boxer to sign with them. He may not be the last, as Gibson said they are “determined to work with Filipino

stars like Albert and help take them to the next level.” Meanwhile, Ahmed A. Seddiqi of D4G Promotions said they believe they can help Pagara achieve his dream of becoming a world champion. “He’s an extremely exciting talent, and we’re looking forward to seeing him showcase his skills when he returns to the ring in the near future,” said Seddiqi. The 27-year-old Pagara last fought on Dec. 18, 2020 in Omega Boxing Promotions’ “Kumbati” show. He outclassed veteran Vigil Puton via a convincing unanimous decision after coming off a one-year hiatus. Pagara is now training under the tutelage of Rey Caitom Jr. at the newly built Caitom

Boxing Fitness Gym in LapuLapu City. He is currently concentrating on his conditioning and is sparring with veteran fighter Junny Salogaol, who’s also a trainer at the gym. As he progresses in training camp, Pagara hopes to spar with his former ALA teammates — the likes of Jeo Santisima and KJ Cataraja. Pagara was supposed to see action in Dubai on April 3, 2021, but his fight got cancelled. He remains one of the most promising fighters from the Philippines, with wins over veteran Raul Hirales and former world title contender Komgrich Nantapetch. Pagara is 33-1 with 23 knockouts, with his only career loss to former world title challenger Cesar Juarez in 2016.
