COTABATO City – The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) announced Thursday a price freeze for basic goods across the region after it was placed under a state of calamity due to recurring floods. BARMM’s Ministry of Trade, Investments, and Tourism (MTIT) is the lead agency in implementing the price freeze order. Hussein Biruar, MTIT director of the Bureau of Trade and Industry, said the products covered by the order are canned fish, locally manufactured instant noodles, bottled water, bread, processed milk, coffee, candles, laundry soap, detergent, and salt. “We are closely coordinating with other government agencies, manufacturers, and retailers to ensure availability and continuous supply of basic goods in the market,” he said. Republic Act 7581, also known as the Price Act of the Philippines, provides that “prices of necessities are automatically frozen at their prevailing prices for 60 days once a state of calamity is declared in an area.” Aside from grocery stores, the MTIT also warned small stores and retailers to refrain from selling necessities more than the specified prices. A quick check with the prices of basic items showed that canned fish prices remained at Labor mediation

As a result, social media is extremely distracting and has a direct impact on student academic performance. It is a two-edged sword that must be handled with caution. Schools and parents must teach their children to use social media responsibly and not to let it interfere with academic performance or extracurricular development. Despite the fact that students are more interested in entertainment than in showing sound academic performance through diligent study and hard work, as evidenced by blogging, making videos, and preparing creatively edited photos and posting them, which not only results in poor exam results but also affects their future career prospects. Thus, even though students should be able to use a variety of social media platforms, it's crucial for them to keep their usage to a minimum in order to grow as people, maintain good health, and consistently perform well in school. This is not to say that social media will harm a student's career. We simply mean that when you do not use things properly, they become addictive. Social media is a significant scientific advancement that has had a significant impact on the media industry. Addicts to these media, on the other hand, may suffer from poor academic performance. If you do not use it positively, it will obviously harm your life. There are many benefits to using social media, but you must use it responsibly. It is entirely up to you who you will follow on your social media dashboard, positive or negative. For the reason that our minds are like horses that you must control or it will harm you.

Although, with its suitability and usability, social media is one of the most trusted communication tools among students. Many studies have been conducted to determine the effects of social media on a student's academic performance, but the results have always been mixed. The internet is used in classrooms to teach, to encourage critical thinking, and to maintain an open line of debate and dialogue. Social media increases awareness and communication. It is critical to ensure a comprehensive educational structure, and social media plays a significant role in this. Students are exposed to a variety of viewpoints and are taught how to sort through them. Despite its numerous benefits, social media has had a negative impact on students' academic performance. Many of the current issues affecting youth stem from social media. They do, however, have a significant negative impact on students' academic performance.

Iligan seeks investors to improve DRRM projects

ILIGAN City Mayor Frederick Siao said he has already found potential collaborators and investors to improve the city government's projects on Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) and other infrastructures. In a statement Tuesday, Siao said his meeting with representatives of the Manila Economic Cooperation Office (MECO) has explored "areas of collaboration," including the establishment of a DRRM learning center. "It is like a museum where we learn how to counter earthquakes, flash floods, where children could also learn from it," he said. Responding to calamities is essential should the city welcome potential investors, the mayor pointed out. But before investors could settle, Siao said the city should be ready in terms of infrastructure, which is why meeting with MECO was a good start. He said the city can provide enough manpower as many students and professionals can be tapped if more investors bring their industries to Iligan City. Our proposal will help ease these financial woes,” Duterte said in a statement Tuesday. Duterte, along with Benguet Rep. “shall be exempt from income tax.” Under the measure, the cash allowance covers the purchase of both “tangible and intangible” teaching supplies and materials for the various learning delivery modalities “within the school year.” While teaching is a profession that serves as a foundation of all other professions, the lawmakers argued that the salaries that educators receive, particularly public school teachers, are not commensurate to the sacrifices they make in helping shape the future of the country’s youth. Adding to the rigors of teaching, they said, are expenses for supplies and materials that public school teachers frequently buy using their own money. Under the bill, the Secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd) is mandated to “conduct a periodic review SUPPLIES

One of the many things that can distract students today is social media platforms. They are drawn to them because of their ease of use, sharing features, and ability to instantly reach people in distant locations. Social media is extremely important in the lives of today's generation. You can always find young people on Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter, TikTok, or Instagram. The craze of followers, uploads, and so on has become a craze. Needless to say, social media has become a part of life, a way of life in and of itself. Over the years, extensive research has been conducted all over the world to determine the impact of social media on young people, particularly in terms of academic performance. Social media can be both distracting and time-consuming. Students spend hours on social networking sites, completely ignoring their studies. The rapid increase in social media usage among students has been linked to lower academic performance.

STATE-LED Philippine National Oil Co. (PNOC) is seeking legislative approval on its plan to establish a national strategic petroleum reserve (SPR) that will serve as the country’s permanent oil stockpile. At a Senate energy committee hearing on Wednesday, PNOC President and Chief Executive Officer Jesus Cristino P. Posadas described the reserve as the “development of a permanent oil stockpile, especially in times of severe disruption of oil supply.” According to PNOC’s website, the reserve fuel will be stored in facilities located around the country, with the possibility of putting up facilities overseas. Mr. Posadas said that the move is in response to geopolitical events, calamities, or emergencies. He said PNOC is targeting to engage an SPR transaction advisor within the fourth quarter of 2022 and will release a feasibility study within nine months. Data from PNOC’s website showed that the Department of Energy (DoE) through DoE Memorandum Order 2019-11-0001 mandated the company to conduct a feasibility study and formulate an implementation plan for the establishment and operation of the SPR. “This endeavor is aligned to PNOC’s mandate and reason for its creation as a government corporation: to ensure an adequate and stable supply of oil and petroleum products for the country’s domestic needs,” PNOC said on its Mr.website.Posadas also said that the sale and monetization of its banked gas are consistent with the government’s efforts for additional power generation and contribute to electricity supply security. He also said that PNOC and South Premiere Power Corp. (SPPC), a subsidiary of SMC Global Power Holdings Corp., entered a gas sale procurement agreement (GSPA) on June 23, 2022. In a disclosure on Aug. 30, San Miguel Corp. “With the normalization, it is more appropriate to continue the existing social protection programs –the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) welfare grants for poor families with children of school age, support for senior citizens, assistance to displaced workers, etc. The ‘ayudas’ associated with the Covid-19 pandemic, such as in Bayanihan I and II, should cease as normalization is achieved and as we learn to live with the virus,” he said in a statement Tuesday. Diokno said the distribution of ‘ayudas’ or cash aids were justified during the height of lockdowns and restricted mobility of citizens. He said citizens are now free to move around, while face-to-face classes are already back.

F INANCE Secretary Benjamin Diokno said the government should prioritize existing social protection programs over another round of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) social amelioration subsidies, which has hardly any urgent basis given the continuous recovery of the economy and the full restoration of public mobility.

THE Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) forecasts inflation rate to stay between 5.9 to 6.7 percent this month. In a statement on Wednesday, the central bank said the rate of price increases during the month “was driven by the continued increase in key foodIt,prices.”however, said this factor “could be offset in part by the decline in global oil prices, the reduction in electricity rates, lower meat and fish prices, and appreciation of the peso.” "Looking ahead, the BSP will continue to monitor closely emerging price developments to enable timely intervention that could prevent further broadening of price pressures, consistent with BSP’s mandate of price stability conducive to sustainable economic growth,” it Domesticadded.inflation rate further accelerated last July to 6.4 percent, the fastest since October 2018. The average inflation to date stood at 4.7 percent, higher than the government’s 2 to 4 percent target for this year. The BSP forecasts inflation this year to average at 5.4 percent. (PNA)

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. said in his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) the government will not implement lockdowns anymore.“Public finances are finite. They have to be allocated judiciously for programs and projects that would result in the greatest benefit for the greatest number of citizens and the overall welfare,” Diokno said. He cited for instance the financing requirement for the recently approved Republic Act No. 11916, or the Social Pension for Indigent Seniors Act which lapsed into law on July 30, 2022. The law doubled the monthly pension for senior citizens from P500 to P1,000.“It's better to use public resources for the indigent seniors, if funds are available, than for the ‘ayudas’ meant for the general public,” Diokno added. Think a minute . . . Throughout history the hopes of a family often depended on the son. Parents and daughters would sacrifice to help the son succeed. Nearly 200 years ago a family in Yorkshire, England had three daughters and only one son, Branwell. Branwell was considered the family’s smartest child. At a young age he showed amazing talent for art and literature. His drawings and paintings, along with his poetry and other writings, promised him and his family a bright future. For years, Branwell’s three sisters worked and saved money to help their brother get the education and job experiences he needed to reach his great potential. But repeatedly, Branwell wasted the opportunities that his sisters worked so hard to give him. Even when their brother became a drug addict and alcoholic, his sisters still continued working to help him succeed. Sadly, to this day Branwell’s paintings and writings remain unknown. It appeared that his sisters’ many years of labor and devotion to their brother’s dreams were wasted. But during all those years, while they were working to financially support their brother, in their spare time at night by candlelight, his sisters themselves tried to do their own writing and live up to their brother’s ability. But unlike their brother, they succeeded! In fact, all three sisters wrote famous books. Anne wrote the novel, Agnes Gray; Emily was the author of the classic, Wuthering Heights; and Charlotte wrote the famous Jane Eyre. Anne, Emily, and Charlotte Bronte. It is terribly wrong and destructive when parents have a favorite child. But thankfully and amazingly,

KIM'S DREAM ORLAN R. RAVANERA change denial perpetuated by global corporations not to mention the former US President himself, Ron ald Trump. It has become imperative for all of us to pause for a while and reflect on the impending threat of the earth’s 6th extinction as humanity is now “oneminute before midnight. In his book, “This is the Way the World Ends,” the author, Jeff Nesbit has delivered an enlightening and alarming explanation of climate challenge as it ex ists today. Indeed, “Climate change is no far-off threat. It’s impacting communi ties all over the world at this very moment, and we ignore the scientific reality at our own peril.” As Pope Francis mentioned in Lau datu Si, we must now hear the cry of the earth. And why not? Well, Jeff Nesbit has categorically written in his book the following truism: “Longer droughts in the Middle East are causing extreme water shortages. Growing desertification in China and Africa is creat ing a severe food security challenge. The monsoon season is shrinking in In dia, perhaps upending a century-old water cycle.

Thousands of concerned scientists worldwide are serving notice that in the absence of a major change, the global system will col lapse in less than one hun dred years. Indeed, we are now in the 22nd year of the 21st century but we are not certain anymore if we will reach the 22nd century which is only 78 years from now as the “tipping point” has already been reached be cause of two major reasons, namely: Climate Change and Economic Unsustain ability. But it’s important to remember that life has its ups and downs and we need to keep pushing forward. I'll be giving you a very simple answer: If you face it - you break it. If you run away (and/ or close your ears, eyes and mouth) - it breaks you!Everyday - a dull reality! Many of us will answer this question with a big YES! Actu ally, who do we like to cover a newborn day already with a grey veil? Hence, if poor eating habits persist over time, the risk of obesity and the development of lifestyle-related chronic diseases increases. This high incidence rate is frequently caused by a lack of physical activity and poor nutrition. While working students may not consider it important while in college, the negative consequences will become a growing concern as they age. Diet quality is a lifestyle change that can be easily improved, whereas managing diseases and major health concerns later in life may not be as Furthermore, simple.tuition and other costs associated with attending college have risen in recent years. This has had an impact on the students. They are primarily looking for jobs while in school to help offset some of those costs and daily expenses. Some of the negative consequences include an increased chance of dropping out, delayed graduation rates, and poor academic performance. Fulltime employees typically have less time for academic pursuits and extracurricular activities. Therefore, money is the most important factor in education, as students accumulate massive amounts of debt to pay off. Many college students work while attending classes, which has an impact. As a result, this demonstrates that there is a psychological and physical toll that students who attempt to juggle both face. Working and attending school causes stress, which has an impact on their academic performance.

One disadvantage of being a student while working is that they are frequently short on time and have little time to study, sleep, and maintain healthy eating habits. According to one study, one of the most common complaints among working students is a lack of time to eat properly. Rather than eating healthy foods like fruits and whole grains, working students frequently grab a quick meal that is high in sugar and sodium. This is not to say that students should be discouraged and stop working while in college, but rather that they should be aware of the commitment and plan accordingly. Students who work every day, for example, might benefit from a 7-day food preparation technique at the start of each week.

Don’t you know that based on the Study of Oxfam, it was mentioned that the most flawed species of all of God’s creations is the homo-sapiens who have caused the deaths of some 200 million human beings in the 20th century alone through two world wars, the Holocaust, the cleansing of Pol Pot, the Vietnam and Middle East Wars and Stalinism. Now, the homo sapiens are killing not only its own kind, the billions of flora and fauna and all life on earth and even sacrificing GAIA to the altar of greed and profit. But there’s good news as mentioned by Jeff Nesbit. “Like every significant challenge we’ve faced – from creating civilization in the shadow of the fast ice age to the “Industrial Revolution – we can get out of this box canyon by understanding the realities, changing the worn-out climate conversation to one that’s relevant to everyIndeed, person.wemust now debunk the mundane to go to the sublime. Let us now feel that essence of that deeper self that is rooted to the Source of all Life, the Formless, the Unseen Supreme Being where all life emanated. When we therefore feel the interconnectedness and oneness of life, no way can the world ends. Feel that oneness of Life, which is in fact TRUE LOVE, then, no way will the world ends! That is the kind of perfect, unlimited love God has for His kids. He always loves each of His children fully and equally. Won’t you ask the perfect Father to become your father? Today you can become His child— if you sincerely ask Him to forgive you for your wrong heart and living? Then ask Him to take full charge of your character and way of living each and every day for the rest of your life. The resolution has already earned the majority bloc’s support after Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri assured on Aug. 15 that he will prioritize the matter.
