The Ateneo de Davao University’s city-wide social survey (CWSS) on October 2014, shows that the President got 60.8 percent satisfaction, compared to the April survey, with 61.1 percent. Dissatisfaction in the October survey was 23.3 percent, up from 12.5 percent in the previous survey. With a drop of 0.3 percent in satisfaction, and a jump of 10.8 percent in dissatisfaction, the President slid down further from the hearts of many Davaoenos, with a drop in net satisfaction by 11.1 percent. According to Dr. Christine S. Diaz, chair of the Department of History and Political Science, the Social Research, Training, and Development Office’s (RTDO) did not include questions on the reason for the respondents’ answers. But other surveys also conducted in October, the same month that the Ateneo survey was conducted on October 22-26, explained that the drop in satisfaction

to AdDU Research Council chair Lourdesita Chan, “is just like the survey of the Social Weather Station survey mechanisms”. “Respondents are not selected by the surveyors but was randomly selected through a system to main-

tain the integrity of the survey” Chan also pointed out that the result of the survey “is a positive indication of the political maturity of Davaoeno’s in terms of social issues”. (davaotoday.com)

was due to the slew of corruption issues hounding his administration. The Ateneo survey was conducted on 630 individuals randomly chosen from the three districts of the city. RTDO Director, Mildred M. Estanda, said that the drop in net satisfaction rate of President Aquino for Davaoeños is “just a slight change.” “Overall the net satisfaction rate is still high, those who are undecided last time are now part of the data to those who are dissatisfied,” Estanda added. The university survey did not only cover government performance but also

on how respondents rated the other social issues concerning labor, education, economy, poverty, environment and weather, and health. In the presentation, Gabriel Women’s Party representative Luzviminda Ilangan suggested to the school’s research group “to share their data to the public and local government, to the city planning and policymakers so that these would be incorporated in the local budget.” Ilagan said that the group should also share the data to the other local government units “because they are also studying the condition of

Attention CAAP, LTO, and LTFRB The “political issue” about the operation of the Laguindingan Airport in Misamis Oriental has continued to persist these days. ccording to many, particularly for the Cagayanons and visitors, the purposeful opening of the Laguindingan airport depicts the political greediness of the national and local officials for selfindulgence. We refused to comment on that observation, although the series of shameful incidents that transpired with the opening of the Laguindingan airport continue to manifest today. For instance, the lack of the navigational instruments (the airport management reported that the night vision navigational instruments would start to operate in November 2014), have not actually fully operated. Visitors and local travelers are also peeved on the proliferation of transport “fixers” at the Laguindingan airport. A friend who used to travel planed in last Friday afternoon. He was in high spirits as the plane touched down at exactly on its expected time of arrival at 1:15 p.m. The friend is a journalist who travels around the country to cover varied events and

exclusive stories. He said he is Cagayan De Oro on a confidential assignment. The friend confided his nasty experience with the travel fixers at the Laguindingan airport. These fixers shout at disembarking passengers at the airport arrival area. Most of them offer a “door-to-door” service (like taxi cabs). “The offer is tempting,”said the friend who always grapple with time. Without much ado, my friend accepted the offer and was led to a “brand new van” purportedly owned by “Donsals Express.” There were already passengers inside the van. My friend was thinking of how long the passengers might have been waiting there. Anyway, the thought of having arrived at the earliest and be at his destination via “door-todoor” has preoccupied my friend’s mind. It was already 1:45 in the afternoon. Hunger starts to grind his stomach. My friend said that he was thinking to be in Cagayan De Oro City proper at 2:00 p.m. Then, a man came and told all the passengers inside the van to disembark since the driver won’t be around. Although astounded, my friend simply keeps his cool.

The CYNOSURE

Cris Diaz

A moment ago, the fixer collected the P 199.00 fare for each of the passengers. The passengers were then led to a “red colored Toyota SUV.” The driver claimed that Donsal still owns the red SUV. At 3:00 p.m. my friend, now dying of hunger, finally reached his destination. He said he did not take his lunch at the airport believing that he could reach his destination before 2:00 p.m. where a lunch was waiting. My friend went to check on things that are happening at the Laguindingan airport only to find out a lot of unsavory feedback. There was this allegation that the Donsal Express and other travel agencies there have not obtained a franchise from the Land Transportation and Franchising Board (LTFRB). In other

words, these transportation vehicles without LTFRB franchises are operating illegally at the Laguindingan airport. If so, why is the LTFRB is tolerating it? They said that it is the lookout of the Land Transportation Office (LTO). The LT0 must impound the illegal passenger vehicles at the Laguindingan airport as a way of protecting passengers. However, the LTO regional office is doing nothing! Another thing, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) who manages the Laguindingan airport reportedly enjoy the perks offered by a travel operator there. Perks? What is that all about? Isn’t it wine, women, and fu$#%^k? We have no idea about it? We do not also believed that the CAAP management is playing favorites there in exchange for anything. Whether these annoying observations at the Laguindingan airport are true, it is still worth a probe. Otherwise, the safety of commuters would be at stake with the operation of the illegal transport groups there. Let the LTFRB and the LTO act swiftly on this. It would be better if CAAP would also clear the nuisance fixers there. -0react: crisguardian@yahoo. com

HYPOCRISY & BIG JOKE!

OVERSPENDING --- I am reading in the news that the COMELEC is starting to prosecute election “overspending”. In fact, Gov. ER EJERCITO lost his seat in Laguna recently for exceeding the limits. By all means let’s run after all violators. But the problem is: the limit of P5.00 per registered voter (unless this has been changed) is not only realistic. It is plain and simple hypocrisy! And a big joke, we all know the expense involved in an election campaign. Everyone “doctors” his campaign record expenses just to comply. Those caught are jokingly called “tanga” or the crime as “katangahan”. If we expect, at the very start, our aspiring public officials to be good at “doctoring” records and be dishonest just so they comply with the election law limits, then let’s forget about “good governance” when they are in office. About time we change the rules! CANADIAN LAW -- I was glad I was able to catch last Thursday, while on my

Jess Dureza way to Manila, a bit of the brief talk of a Pinoy- Canadian lawyer, ATTY. BAYANI ABESAMIS during the Canadian Chamber of Commerce regular Davao chapter luncheon meeting at Marco Polo Hotel. He said the “CORRUPTION OF FOREIGN PUBLIC OFFICIALS ACT” was approved in 1999 after Canada adhered to the UN International Anti-corruption Declaration. Ordinarily, persons can be prosecuted only in the countries where the criminal acts are committed. But under the said law, a Canadian citizen can be prosecuted

if, for example, he bribes a Filipino public official in the Philippines. As an exception to the “territoriality rule”, a Canadian can be prosecuted in a Canadian court back home although he committed the crime in the Philippines. Interesting to know! ENVIRONMENT --- I learned during my recent visit at the coal-fired STEAG POWER PLANT in Misamis Oriental that 75% of the pollution in the Philippines is caused by exhaust and emissions coming from vehicles and smoke. Only 25% is caused by industries, including power plants. I wonder why so-called “guardians” of the environment are only focusing their angst and protests at coalfired plants and ignoring the bigger culprits. Some nitwit asked: “Why not protest against vehicle owners and drivers and cigarette smokers, too?” Why not, indeed! FEDERAL --I got an invitation from Mayor RODY DUTERTE to be facilitator in a “Federal Summit” in Davao City this week

where he is convenor. This is to seek some systemic changes that may hopefully give Mindanao and all the regions, a new governance arrangement that will allow the locals to govern and determine for themselves what is good for them with lesser interference from central government in Manila. Like in the “Bangsamoro” struggle, those who are comfortable with the “status quo” or fearful of the uncertainties ahead will make things difficult. There is always resistance to change! BIRTH PAINS -- That reminds me. I had a chat with Cagayan de Oro Congressman RUFUS RODRIGUEZ, Jr. during the wake of the late SEN. TING PATERNO in Manila. He is marshalling the wide-ranging consultations on the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) that will implement the MILF peace agreement. He said the original timetable of passing it by end of December; this year is NO LONGER POSSIBLE. Moreover, there are conSee dureza, page A6

Agusan del Norte farmer, coop gets national awards By PAT SAMONTE and GIL MIRANDA Butuan News Bureau

BUTUAN City––The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Central Office conferred on Ruben Ragas and the Baug CARP Beneficiaries MultiPurpose Cooperative (BCBMPC) of Agusan del Norte the prestigious awards as the Most Outstanding Agrarian Reform Beneficiary and Most Progressive Organization, respectively, during the DAR Annual Awards and Recognition program at the Bureau of Soils and Water Management Management Convention Center in Quezon City last November 20, 2014.

The affair was held in conjunction with the celebration of the International Year of Family Farming. Provincial Agrarian Reform Project Officer Andre Atega commended Ragas and BCBMPC for “modeling” the success in the implementation of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program.

“The two awardees are literal showcases of success in agrarian reform program implementation in the province,” he said. BCBMPC is a story of grit and determination of 110 agrarian reform beneficiaries who struggled and rose from mere crab hunters to become bankers. From a modest capital of P30,000, BCBMPC now has assets in the hundreds of millions and is expected to be one of the country’s billionaire cooperatives in the next five years. A decade of what observers noted as “spectacular growth”, BCBMPC operates a bank-like system and provides financial consultancy and assistance to clients and borrowers including

Ruben Ragas, an agrarian reform beneficiary. BCBMPC has received many awards in recognition of its business achievements in the last five years including the Gawad sa Pinakatanging Kooperatiba (Gawad Pitak) in 2013, and conferred the Hall of Fame Award under the Agri-Based category with P100,000 worth of fixed assets. Ragas, a vegetable grower and farmer-entrepreneur of Sanghan, Cabadbaran City, was Gawad Saka 2013 Most Outstanding High Value Crop Category Regional Awardee during the 11th Annual Vegetable Congress and First Runner-up Ulirang Magsasaka Awardee last August 8, 2014.

Sarangani bags hosting of 2015 paragliding world cup Dureza... from page A4 GENERAL Santos City––Sarangani province bagged the right to host one of the legs of the Paragliding Accuracy World Cup (PGAWC) next year, a Department of Tourism (DOT) official said. Nelly Nita Dillera, DOT director for Region 12, thanked the PGAWC organizers for approving the Philippine proposal to host the world cup in Sarangani province’s Maasim town. “This only proves that our paragliding site is worldclass. We are very excited to host the world cup,” she told MindaNews. The official said hosting the paragliding world cup will help boost the tourism potentials of the region, as

many foreigners are expected to join the event. Dillera said they are set to meet this week here to discuss preparations for the upcoming paragliding accuracy world cup competition. It is tentatively set within the first half of 2015, she added. Last August, Sarangani province successfully hosted the Philippines’ 1st International Paragliding Competition (IPAC), which was accredited by the Federation Aeronautique Internationale and has been sanctioned as a pre-world cup status. Some 40 pilots from 13 countries joined the competition, which was organized by the Air Sports Association of

the Philippines (ASAP). Randell Raymundo, ASAP president, earlier said the chances of Sarangani to host a paragliding accuracy world cup is high, owing to the almost year-round flying condition in the area. He described Sarangani’s paragliding site as “the best in the Philippines.” The paragliding site in Maasim town is within the mountain ranch of San Andres Fishing Industry Inc (SAFI) in the village of Siguel, which has a fantastic view of the Sarangani Bay awaiting the pilots as they glide in the air down to the landing site 700 meters below. Marfenio Tan, SAFI ranch owner and a local tuna tycoon,

has already pledged to support the paragliding accuracy world cup next year in his property. The provincial government of Sarangani and the local government of General Santos City are expected to also support the world cup competition, just like what they did for the IPAC 2014. Bodhi Suprana, an Indonesian paragliding coach who joined the 2014 IPAC, was bullish over the potentials of paragliding in Sarangani. “It’s a superb site,” he said in an interview then. The paragliding adventure in Sarangani province has been included in the tourism circuit of Region 12, which is being promoted as the “12th Paradise” of the Philippines.

tutional and legal issues that are yet UNRESOLVED. These are the so-called necessary birth pains. I shared to him my thoughts. What is important is that the MILF is engaged closely during the congressional stage so it will understand -- and accept -- whatever is the final version that Congress shall approve. The government and the MILF are already irretrievably stuck with one another. They cannot peel away from an irreversible course. But the road to peace is not that smooth and easy. This reminds me too

of another forum in Manila this week about the “Bangsamoro Agreement” under the auspices of the Asian Peace and Unity Corps/ Integrity Circles Movement/ Universal Peace Federation groups. They are composed of regional peace advocates, military and police officers and other peace builders who want to see the peace process succeed. Then the BISHOP ULAMA CONFERENCE of Mindanao will also hold a forum among its bishops and Ulamas about the BBL the following week in Davao City. Everyone wants to nurture the process but it may good to do some reality checks along the way. So we manage expectations!

decentralization of power to the regions and localities. On Friday, the committee held three simultaneous public hearings in Iligan and Pagadian cities, and Tubod, Lanao del Norte. Quijano said that the Basic Law, by itself, is al-

ready a model for what an autonomy charter for the Cordilleras can be. Written based on the p eace accord b etween government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), the Basic Law principally outlines the shar-

ing of wealth and political power between the central and regional governments. “That is a very good recipe to address the longing of other regions like Bicol and those in the Visayas to also have greater power to manage their development affairs,” Quijano noted. “Lacking that dispersion of political and economic power, we continue to see the over-centralization of political and economic opportunities at the national center,” he added. The 1987 Constitution provides for autonomous regions for the Moro and Cordillera peoples. In 1989, RA 6734 was passed creating the Autonomous Region in Muslim

Awareness that may lead us to better respond and put our acts together to take bolder steps in creating a momentum by harnessing science and technology for

the advancement of Lanao to take part in the global Halal economy and in preparation for the ASEAN Economic Integration in 2015.” Laidan said the world has welcomed the Halal economy, a radical opportunity many non-Islamic nations as far as United Kingdom and the rest of Europe has incessantly endeavor to gain advantage of. “We in Lanao can neither simply close our door nor can we afford to neglect this same opportunity at our own threshold. Lanao has great advantage to tap into the global Halal economy,” she said adding, “it is known to be the only place in the country solidly populated by Muslim Filipinos with rich cultural heritage, natural resources, and human resources with unique en-

trepreneurial skills and core competences.” The Royal Forum, she said, is envisioned to inspire and motivate the people of Lanao particularly the Maranaos to foster Halal Science culture to enable them to become producers, manufacturers, suppliers and exporters of world-class products of Halal Premium Brands globally competitive in the world halal market. “One of the major highlights of the event is the launching of the DOST-12 Philippine National Halal Laboratory in support to the growth of the Halal industry, meeting international standards and requirements and most importantly, ensuring the halalness of the products for the benefit of the entire Muslim UMMAH in fulfilling their obligation

MILF to lay down guns in decommissioning process Zamboanga del Norte | Zamboanga del Sur | Zamboanga Sibugay | Dipolog City | Dapitan City | Pagadian City | Isabela City | Zamboanga City

By Edwin O. Fernandez

T

he Moro Islamic L i b e r at i on Front (MILF) said it already started preparing its firearms to be covered by decommissioning to take place in January next year in compliance to the GPHMILF peace accord. “It’s all systems go for the symbolic decommissioning of our firearms,” Mohaqher Iqbal, MILF chief negotiator, said Sunday as he stressed the MILF’s determination to attain peace in

its homeland. As clearly stipulated in the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) signed by the government and MILF in March, the MILF will decommission its forces. The Independent Decommissioning Body (IDB), composed of representative from foreign countries, has already completed an initial inventory of firearms that the MILF will turn over to the IDB. However, Igbal speaking to reporters, refused to

reveal how many firearms, its make and caliber will be turned over by the MILF combatants. “The IDB has put up the documents that would provide the terms of reference for the decommissioning of the MILF combatants,” Iqbal said. In previous interviews, Iqbal said 75 firearms will form part of the initial decommissioning process, 25 of which are high powered guns and the rest were medium-powered. He assured the firearms are well

maintained, serviceable and not defective as some sectors are claiming. Describing the upcoming turn-over of firearms as “emotional and sentimental,” Iqbal added the “MILF is doing sacrifice for the sake of peace in our homeland.” Iqbal said after the initial decommissioning process to take place late January next year, more firearms will be turned over to the IDB and will be stored in an area he refused to divulge. entire country. Our fertile land healthily accommodates this commercial grass. Let us grab this productive opportunity through massive planting in order to increase our production and saturate its market,” said Guingona. As a focal person on cooperative, Carcido explained that the purpose on interlinking Lawi planters and producers in barangays Bal-ason, Hindangon, Lawaan, Libertad, Lunotan and Banta-awan is to conglomerate them into a strong cooperative with one vision and mission to obtain legal personality, generate more income, achieve economic sustainability, financial security and self-reliance. According to many Lawi planters, they highly appreciated the positive aspiration of Mayor Guingona for allocating funds for vast tiger grass plantation, for assisting them with technical supervision, and for aiding them manage the eventual coop operation with the technical supervision and management tutorial to be extended by Aggies coop staff. The city’s chief has been constantly coordinating with Aggies personnel in assuring these planters and producers with abundant yields and fruitful outcome for their family’ material sustenance and for coop’s collective development.

Pacamalan said that another LPA is expected to reach Mindanao later this week and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) has now heightened preparations. He said that the PDRRMC is still assisting some 300 individuals who were affected when a flash flood struck Saturday afternoon in the hinterlands of Naawan, a coastal town west of Misamis Oriental. Pacamalan said that six houses were carried away by a flash flood in the village of Tagbalogo, 7 kilometers from the town of Naawan Saturday afternoon. The Tagbalogo River also overflowed which resulted in the evacuation of more than 300 people toward a safer ground in the village, Pacamalan said. He said that the PDRRMC has dispatched 200 packs of relief goods and assorted medicines to the flood victims Saturday evening. The relief packs consisted of three kilo rice, three cans of sardines, three packs of noodles and three cans of beef loafs, Pacamalan said.

Initial reports reaching the Office of Representative Uy said more than 300 residents (73 families) fled from their homes after heavy rains struck purok 8 causing flash floods. But Mayor Roa said the massive floodings came in after the tornado struck part of Barangay Tagbalogo. As a result, six houses were swept away by rampaging waters. No one was hurt in the incident.

DSWD Secretary Corazon Juliano-Soliman in a media release. DSWD also believed that the best way to promote the program to others is through letting the beneficiaries speak about the experience with the Pantawid Pamilya. The Pantawid Pamilya, the Philippine Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT), is a human development program that invests in the health and education of children aged 0-18. The program scheme is also used by other count r ies. The Phi lippines ranked second to Brazil in terms of high impact. Pantawid Pamilya in the Philippines already helped 4.4M poor households nationwide and more than 300,000 in the entire Region 10. F u r t h e r, P a n t a w i d Pamilya utilizes the CCT scheme where the beneficiaries receive cash grant provided that they send their children to school, get preventive health check-up, and the parents attend the monthly Family Development Session (FDS). The FDS is a unique component of the Pantawid Pamilya. Through it, parents and or guardians learn how to respect and

PH to launch APEC 2015 T Volume III, No. 155

he c o u n t r y h a s launched Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2015 yesterday, December 1, to buoy up local businesses to explore and initiate opportunities based on lined up activities for AsiaPacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) next year. “While the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has lined up several activities as the country chairs APEC in 2015 and hosts the 23rd APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, we aim to spur greater private sector participation and generate new prospects for local and foreign businesses to flourish,” Secretary Gregory L. Domingo in a statement said. The launch was attended by the local business community, held at Green Sun in Makati City. The Philippine hosting of the APEC intends to inspire greater confidence that the

APEC member-economies can, indeed, build a truly vibrant and inclusive future for all peoples, as they pursue the Bogor Goals and work to realize the vision laid out by the country. Domingo noted that next year will be a perfect opportunity for local business to seize and further help in contributing to the Philippines’ growing economy. “In the country’s hosting next year, we seek to underscore the significance of the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the country’s economy, and their role and integration in global supply chains,” Domingo said. Domingo further said that SMEs play an essential role in driving economic growth and generating employment in the local communities. They contribute and enrich growth opportunities in these communities that are being developed as

hubs of trade and investments in various regions of the country. The country’s micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) account for 99 percent of the businesses, and contribute 65 percent of the jobs generated by all types of business establishments. Domingo pointed out that as the backbone of the country’s economy, MSMEs are developed by the government to help them become more competitive not just regionally but also globally. “The DTI has continuously implemented several programs for these enterprises to grow in an enabling business environment, enjoy access to finance, expand market access, and improve efficiency and productivity,” Domingo said. He noted that to get the most of these government interventions, SMEs must also be abreast with regional

ply chains. “We strongly believe that regional economic integration should work towards empowering the Filipino people and achieving inclusive growth in the country.

Thus, we will work with other APEC member economies towards this goal and complement it with frameworks and policies that will benefit all in the Asia-Pacific region,” Domingo said. (DTI-PRU)

DO YOU SOMETIMES THINK & FEEL NEGATIVE? http://www.chinkeetan.com/

TAN by CHINKEE

Never underestimate yourself! There is a tendency that we look down and do not believe in our own capabilities. Some say it is humility but I say it is the lack of confidence. Just remember the it is God who has given you the ability to produce wealth. If God is for us who can be against us. If God say “Yes” who we are to say “No.” Yes, tayo. We try to convince ourselves that … It is too hard. I don’t think I can do it. I do not have the talent. I am not as smart as my brother. I am bound to fail. This is what we call as NEGATIVE SELF-TALK. You cannot meditate on a negative thought and expect a positive output. When we speak negatively about ourselves Reminder: Never speak when you feel down and negative. Chances are negative words will come out. We should not allow our negative thoughts to control

Apple Tree Christmas launch ushers in Yuletide season

our feelings and dictate how we respond. We should be conscious to fight and overcome our negative thinking. Negative thinking will not bring us a good feeling. You cannot live a positive life with a negative attitude. It is time for you to rise from you negative thoughts. It is time for you to have a change of mind and heart. It is time for us to say think positive than thinking negative; to think about possibilities not difficulties; to focus on the solution not the problem. Believe me good things will start to come along your way if you start to think positive. THINK. REFLECT. APPLY. What are the NEGATIVE SELF TALK that you are saying that you need to stop? How is it affecting you as person? Do you think it is time for you to change? is time for you to change? A CHINK POSITIVE QUOTE A DAY CAN KEEP OUR NEGATIVE ATTITUDE AWAY. MY PHONE from Page B1 As one of the pageant’s partners, MyPhone awarded prizes to the winning candidate, as well as a special Miss MyPhone award which was won by Herrell herself. MyPhone also powered the official social media feeds of Ms. Earth’s official accounts on Facebook and Instagram by providing mobile units that were proven reliable during their tours. “We are proud to be a partner of the Ms. Earth which promotes ‘beauty for a cause’, not only to the Philippines where it originated, but also to the world,” explains Richie de Quina, MyPhone’s Vice-President for Marketing and Business Development. “Expect that this won’t be the last time you will see MyPhone supporting the Miss Earth pageant,” he added.

IT was a festive mood yesterday afternoon at Apple Tree Resort and Hotel lighted up its lobby complete with a 15-foot Christmas tree. But it was not just the decorated receiving area which captured the moment but the delightful presence of more than a dozen kids from Children’s Joy Foundation. The choir of Children’s Joy Foundation were the celebrities during the revelry where they sang a medley of Yuletide melodies two hours before the countdown to the Christmas lighting. The Davao-based Children’s Joy Foundation has a huge number of beneficiaries in Cagayan de Oro where 1,200 fulltime scholars are currently enrolled and 113 children and youth are sheltered in their Bulua center. Because of their presence, no less than the Star Patrol segment of the local Northern Mindanao edition of TV Patrol covered the event live during

their 5:00 p.m. newscast yesterday. Regional Star Patroller Greanne Trisha Mendoza brought the television audience live to the actual Christmas lighting. Prior to the lighting, hotel staff ranging from the food and beverage department to housekeeping staff rendered dance numbers to the delight of the audience which include Cagayan de Oro Hotel and Restaurant Association (COHARA) members. Cocktails were also served on hand like the yummy chicken fingers with teriyaki sauce, chocolate brownies, sweetened sticky rice with mango puree, cassava roll, vegetable fried lumpia among others coupled with a choice of lemongrass juice or house blend iced tea. Expect more exciting things to come this Yuletide season only at Apple Tree Resort and Hotel conveniently located along the beach in Opol, Misamis Oriental.

Some strange couplings here and there

FOR the past week alone, I have brushed past three women here in CDO who are untangled from their husbands. One is a salon owner, the second is a medical equipment sales rep, the third is a court interpreter. All three are young and still curvaceous which left me thinking and I’d like to type this the Sex and the City way ala each episode beginning, “What the heck happened?” To blast off this column edition, I’d like to key in a disclaimer: I am estranged from my wife myself but this can’t stop me to yap something that I have observed. In my day-to-day

observations about life in CDO especially among married persons or those who are in a “live-in” relationship or even those who are in their bf-gf stage, the beginning of a relationship destruction starts from a very minor scratch – flirting. Satan is a keen tempter and he tempts us in very disguising ways. Flirting begins as a harmless fun or even an innocent behavior. There is not one minute idea in your mind that you’d sin against your spouse. Flirting may be as innocent as your usual casual convo: “(Hearty) for you….peru atik ra man na. Tuod can I text

you? My number diay is 0917xxxxxxx.” It is in flirting like this which will ultimately lead to something more cunning. Confiding in the opposite gender is another form of suggestive or even innocent flirting. When you pour out your problems to someone of the opposite gender, you are putting yourself in a vulnerable position. Take note I used the term “opposite gender.” If you’re a woman and you confide yourself to a gay friend, that’s okay because you have the same gender orientation. I’m not biased on friendship of the opposite gender but that’s

a vulnerable invitation to implied intimacy. As the Bible says, turn away from temptation as distant as you can because even if you’re confident how strong your contention is, Satan may be aware of your weakness. And even if you don’t have a problem and you don’t need a person to cry on, do not spend most of your time with someone of the opposite gender alone. Same as the preceding paragraph, it will also ultimately lead to intimacy one way or the other. Badmouthing your partner is another action that may lead to unfaith-

Special Gospel of the day: Mark10:1727-And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? And Jesus said unto him, Why called thou me good? [there is] none good but one, [that is], God. Thou know the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honor thy father and mother. And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth. Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lack: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shall have “treasure in heaven” and come, take up the cross, and follow me. And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions. And Jesus looked round about, and said unto his disciples, how hardly they that have riches shall

Unfortunately, your stubbornness just means that reality has to yell even louder to attract your attention. There may be financial issues brewing now that are stirring up internal conflict. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 – December 21) - You are at a critical point as you strive to reach a goal, but you may be irritated if things aren’t moving along fast enough. You desperately want to make something positive happen and are anxious to try a new approach if you think it will further your cause. CAPRICORN (December 22 – January 19) - Unfortunately, even the most stable structures don’t seem so secure these days. The same things you depended on in the past have shifted somehow and your life isn’t what it once was. It’s hard to relax now but the stress could work to your advantage.
