Q&A wi How were you discovered? In 2019, I decided to seriously Billie- pursue modelling. I submitted my digitals to Priscilla’s Model Jean Management who I thought were the perfect fi t for me. Soon after I was signed and bought Hamlet a one-way ticket to Sydney and the rest is history.

THIS INDIGENOUS MODEL HAS THE WORLD AT HER FEET

Did you always want to be a model?

From as far back as I can remember, becoming a model was a huge dream of mine and I knew that with hard work, dedication and self-belief, I could make it my reality. As a child I had an obsession with collecting Vogue magazines and scrapbooking my favourite models and fashion trends. I started modelling classes for fun when I was six and instantly fell in love with it. I am beyond grateful and feel so lucky that everything has happened so quickly with the help and support of my family, friends and wonderful mother. I am very goal oriented and this is only the beginning.

If not modelling, what else?

I was also very involved in sport and dreamed of being an Olympic track and fi eld athlete or playing for the Diamonds national netball team. Fun fact: When I was nine years old I received my black belt in karate!

You’re just 21 — what would it mean to you to make it overseas?

Transitioning overseas to focus on modelling is my main focus right now. Covid has found a way of making this diffi cult, however, I know that my time will come soon and I am more than ready.

You’ve grown up in a remote Indigenous community — what perspective does that give you?

I remind myself every day not to forget where I come from. I use this as a tool to help motivate and push myself to keep working hard. Not only do I do this for myself but my family and community back home. It keeps me humble and grateful for every opportunity that comes my way.

You’re a Wanderlust paid ambassador. How does the brand align with your own values?

In our busy modern lives, we’re all on a journey to adapt to keep up and keep well. I was born in The Kimberley, away from the stress of the world, and share Wanderlust’s belief that when we live in tune with nature, we can tap into her wisdom.

How do you manage your self-care?

I’m a real go with the fl ow kind of person and try to leave some spontaneity to the day but naturally always prioritise self-care fi rst thing in the morning. I love to listen to the waves nearby, go for a run or meditate to kick-start my day. I then always add the Wanderlust Collagen Booster and Wanderlust Prebiotic Gut Goodness powders to my morning breakfast smoothie. I fi nd if I start my day right ... I always feel my best.

Would you describe yourself as spiritual?

Defi nitely. I have always felt in tune with my intuition and feel the spiritual guidance of my ancestors every day. Having grown up in a remote Indigenous community surrounded by traditional elders, culture and nature, I feel that it gave me a special connection to the land and a diff erent perspective on life.

How do you unwind?

I fi nd that the best way to unwind is by submerging myself in the ocean, getting some fresh air and practising mindfulness through exercise and meditation.

Do you consider yourself a role model?

To be considered a role model for other young Aboriginal people is an honour. If I can inspire and motivate them to dream big and chase their dreams it would mean the world to me.

What advice do you have for other young people?

Believe in yourself, work hard and never give up.

“Having grown up in a remote Indigenous community ... I feel that it gave me a special connection to the land and a different perspective on life.”
