We’re proud of Merrick’s prestigious American Association of Collegiate Schools of Business International accreditation—a distinction earned by less than 25 percent of business schools worldwide. We invite you to learn more about our undergraduate and graduate programs, centers, and scholars, and our creative, entrepreneurial approach to business and community. student focused Delivering a high quality educational experience is a hallmark of a UB education. Students are presented with a leading edge curriculum by accomplished faculty in a small class setting or online. In fact, the Merrick School is the only AACSB International accredited business school to offer students the convenience of on campus or online learning. Students take advantage of smart classrooms, wireless technology, internships, study abroad opportunities, honor societies and student clubs, as well as an abundance of additional academic resources. They benefit from our engaged community philosophy and gain real-world experience through our programs.

As Baltimore and Maryland have shifted from a community of large corporate headquarters to small business and entrepreneurial enterprises, the Merrick School has responded by sharing its expertise and support. Developing valued academic programs and outreach services to the Baltimore region tops our list of priorities. Now, we’ve launched the only B.S. in real estate and economic development in Maryland. We’ve partnered with Towson University to deliver the UB/Towson M.B.A. program. And we’ve topped this period of growth by unveiling major workforce and economic development research in the Jacob France Institute while also establishing the Entrepreneurial Opportunity Center. Throughout this time of transition, there has been one common denominator: regional commitment. Anticipating the needs of business—from big industry to small start-ups—is essential in educating future leaders. This kind of practical experience is what UB is widely known for.

global perspective Global business is growing at twice the rate of its domestic counterpart. To thrive in a global economy, the state of Maryland needs to prepare its business leaders, present and future, for a new and exciting world of change and collaboration. Our aim is to enable students to become responsible leaders, and equip them with the knowledge, skills, confidence and competencies to succeed in this complex and dynamic environment. To this end, Merrick alumnus Vernon Wright, former chief financial officer of MBNA Corporation, established the Wright Global Scholars Fund.

My education at UB launched a global career. I want to expose the next generation of UB students to the best minds and the greatest ideas the world has to offer with the aim of making our graduates competitive in the international marketplace.

Vernon H.C. Wright B.S. ‘69

Creating sustainable value and global solutions is one of our greatest opportunities. The Merrick School of Business is taking giant leaps in teaching sustainability and socially responsible leadership. Merrick was the first University System of Maryland institution to sign the United Nations Global Compact on the Principles for Responsible Management Education and to develop a sustainability management focus. Our students learn to respond to resource scarcity, a low-carbon economy and doing business in emerging markets. Through coursework and experiences they soon understand the business risks and opportunities of environmental and social trends. They are able to analyze these trends into strategic decisions and address the complex issues of sustainability and corporate responsibility.

the merrick edge • AACSB International Accreditation, Relevant, Career-focused Programs Student Focused, Regionally Committed, Global Perspectives At a university that emphasizes work readiness, it’s logical—but still impressive—that our business programs are accredited by AACSB International. This achievement is highly valued by companies and students alike, and is a distinction held by less than 25 percent of all business schools worldwide. This status adds exponential value to every Merrick degree. What we call “the Merrick edge” is best dislayed in our overarching philosophy: We understand that the only constant in business is change. We strive for relevancy, and we make regular assessments to ensure the long-term viability of our programs. Merrick alumni take advantage of this approach: They frequently return to bolster their professional development as their career demands evolve.
