New Strom Nordic Spa

ardon the pun, but the new outdoor spa on Nun’s Island is a hard habit to break! Imagine luxuriating in a thermal whirlpool with “healing stones” on the shore of eco-retreat Lac des Battures surrounded by marsh birds swooping and dipping on the breeze. Then, sauntering over to yet another larger thermal pool, only this one has a waterfall too. Now it’s time to cool off in one of two Nordic baths, one with a waterfall or one without, and then go curl up by the outdoor fire pit burning aromatic wood or the inside fireplace in one of the three glassed-in quiet rooms all overlooking the water. If that’s not enough, you can float under a sunlamp in an anti-gravity chair outside, or get some real sun on the deck above or on the comfy lounges on the grass. Then you can cleanse your pores in the eucalyptus steam room or in one of the two Finnish saunas, one with healing oils. It’s hard to imagine that you might still be feeling stressed, but if you are, how about a professional massage under an outdoor
tent or the glassed-in enclave? Hungry or thirsty? No problem. There’s a lovely little indoor/outdoor bistro with an eclectic choice of fare and libations from healthy and pure to decadent and delicious. Now imagine the entire experience is very affordable, open all year-round and only five minutes from downtown! All true! In fact, the hardest thing to imagine once there is ever having a desire to leave! The new Strom Spa on Nun’s Island is pure relaxation heaven and truly lives up to its name. Strom is Scandinavian for the power and tranquility of water, but also refers to channelling kinetic energy in a regenerating manner. That it does! Mind, body and spirit all benefit from a rejuvenating visit here, and they also offer body scrubs and facials and four different modes of massage. I must admit I am truly addicted to this particular outdoor oasis– the vast open spaces, the soft new age music, the lake, the wildlife, the cascading waterfalls…good thing they have full-year memberships!
