Zemi Beach House Resort & Spa Anguilla’s New Shining Gem
A
s if you needed any new reason to visit Anguilla. It’s a postcard perfect paradise with some of the best beaches on the planet. But just in case you need one, here it is: a gorgeous new resort called Zemi Beach. This idyllic new enclave is located on Shoal Bay – one of the most stellar expanses of sand in the entire Caribbean. When I first heard of this new resort opening I was a little concerned about new development there. But upon my arrival, I could see my worries were unfounded as the design is pure genius. Their architect obviously knows the island and knows when Mother Nature’s treasures cannot be improved upon, so he created a space that allows the stunning nature to be the star and the trappings around it to blend in beautifully in the same white and aqua colors as the beach and sea. The entire complex gracefully flows down to the waters in a harmonious path of suites, villas and water circuits that culminate in an infinity pool with a peek-a-boo glass wall. Once I checked into my insanely spacious

suite overlooking that surreal sea scene, it was hard to leave it, but there was more waiting below. A unique spa with reconstructed Thai rice houses as its base and surrounded with serene meditation ponds and pools was one feature. Tennis courts, a posh Rhum room (I loved the tasting ritual there), and their new Stone steakhouse were a few others. But it was their casual indoor/outdoor 20 Knots dining space that really pleased me the most. It is a perfect blend of upscale and barefoot luxury plus fabulous food and service, I thoroughly enjoyed most meals there – gourmet woodfired pizza for dinner plus excellent breakfast buffets. My stay at Zemi was far too short, but while there I did manage to become a real-life mermaid for a spell! The new International Mermaid School Anguilla uses this spot as one of their locations for lessons. They supply the tails and instruction and you simply just have to learn to become one with the water a la Ariel. Incredible! Visit www.zemibeach.com SUSAN CAMPBELL @suectravel
