Hear ye! Hear ye! It's The Londoner! Grand Cayman's Latest Luxury Abode
I
t's not every day that my arrival to an event is heralded by a town crier and met with a Beefeater-styled server handing me champagne on a red carpet. But that was the kind of pomp and circumstance surrounding the opening of The Londoner– the latest installation of Morritt's Resort in Grand Cayman this year. Owner David Morritt hails from London, and is often on site. The original resort has been there for 25 years, and now the new building adds considerable cachet to the property with a completely new line of two-and three-bedroom luxury oceanfront suites. The 20 new suites reside in their own tower and boast extra-large balconies, spacious interiors and fully appointed kitchens. They are decked out in what they refer to as “Caribbean chic” decor. The Morritt's community is made up mostly of time-share owners, though there are some properties available for outright purchase. The grounds are dotted with infinity pools and water circuits, a swim-up bar, whirlpool, a dive and water sports operator, a small spa, their own mini-mall,

and a well-stocked grocery store within easy walking distance. They also have a comprehensive children's club. I thoroughly enjoyed my meals at their David’s Deep Blue Restaurant & Bar. In fact, I had what might have been the absolute best filet mignon ever there. I also enjoyed their bopping pier beach bar called Mimi's. What's also very cool about that spot is that you can snorkel right off the pier to encounter scads of giant tarpons and friendly sergeant majors. Interval International is their on-site timeshare operator, and they are very friendly, super professional and never pushy when it comes to explaining how it all works and what benefits you will reap by becoming a member of their organization, which includes a vast global network of quality proprieties. The entire Morritt's experience is intended to operate as your home-awayfrom-home, and many of the guests have been coming there for decades. Now, the new $8 million Londoner offers those seeking a higher-end stay on Grand Cayman's tranquil East End. Visit: www.morritts.com. SUSAN CAMPBELL Twitter: @suectravel
