First Class Kauai Upscale Resorts & Creature Comforts

ust because Kauai is wild and untamed doesn’t mean it’s uncivilized. You need not go without any creature comforts there. In fact, they boast some seriously ritzy resorts like the St. Regis Princeville. Though the grandness of the lobby will certainly impress upon entering, it’s soon dwarfed by the jaw-dropping view of the mountains coming out of the sea—a sight visible from all angles due to an ingenious glassed-in design that allows the stunning nature to shine the brightest. The resort cascades down its own mountain in three levels, ending on a stellar water circuit and a swimmable beach. There’s also a worldclass golf course nearby. It’s located in lovely Hanalei (the land of “Puff, the Magic Dragon” fame), a wonderful area with an interesting history involving Russian royalty and even an abandoned fort. As for the service, amenities, and dining, it’s the St. Regis, so it’s not merely a cut above, but in a class of its own. Then there is the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort& Spa in Koloa, renowned for its tropical garden and water circuit landscaping. It truly is a

spectacular Eden. Waterfalls, lava-rock-lined lazy river pool, secret caves and a 150-foot waterslide surround their manmade saltwater lagoon. And beyond their many eclectic dining locations, the koi-filled pond with swans surrounding the thatched roof islands of the Tidepools restaurant is simply out of this world, especially when lit by Tiki torches at night. Food is also first rate. Also with a stellar water circuit, waterfalls and caves looking onto a restless sea is the Kauai Beach Resort in Lihue, an ideal choice for families and groups. It boasts a huge convention centre and wonderful snorkeling at a nature park nearby. It’s conveniently located near all the main shopping areas, and service is very warm and welcoming. And for special occasions like weddings, Kauai also has a wealth of unique venues to consider, like the Grove Farm Sugar Plantation Homestead overlooking the lush Nawiliwili Valley. But regardless of where you stay or where you go, one thing is certain: it’s impossible not to fall in love with Kauai. Visit: www.kauaidiscovery.com . SUSAN CAMPBELL
