Aviary Indicators for Remidiary Subjects instr. Andrew Madl | “Dendritic Taxonomies | Spring 2018
The selected site in Nashville is an industrial side that is prone to flood. Monetary and temporal damages from the 2010 Nashville flood suggest that the location might be suitable for other purposes. I propose a site that is suitable for the Northern Bobwhite, an indicator species and the state game bid for Tennessee, and the remedial properties of poplars to rehabilitate the site for an urban ecosystem.

_analysis The foundation of the project laid in the existing conditions of the Nashville site. In the process of learning about phytoremediation, the connection between poplars and Tennessee was revealed. The (tulip) poplar, Tennessee’s state tree, (although it is part of the Magnoliaceae family) is also a popular choice for phytoremediation. The connection between Tennessee’s historic-cultural identity and phytoremediation started here.

_ form studies and sketching Iterations of landforms were created to observe flow along the inundations. A combination of a few basic landfdorm ovements resulted in a raw site informed by the phytoremediation selection.

_ typologies deployed A combination of simple moves were deployed to shape the site grounds. A combination of these typologies created a novel urban area with new ecological, social, and economic possibilities.

New Horizons: (Re)Defining Knoxville’s Horizons instr. Gale Fulton | “ECO-TECH-SPEC” | Fall 2017
NEW HORIZONS demonstrates the process of reclaiming and redeveloping the soil to a rehabilitated lush state. In doing so, the project addresses four main issues of post-industrial urban soil: compaction, acidity, toxicity, and displacement of organic matter. By utilizng mycoremediation and resilient plantings, it will pioneer the process of establishing a new ecosystem. New Horizons is an experiment for a new generation of vegetative, fungal, and animal life.

Claybox is the earlier iteration of New Horizons. These materials were created in a shorter time. The focus of this work is in the representational style and delivery.

European Urbanisme in the City of Angels instr. Scottie McDaniel | Digital Communications 2 | Spring 2018
For this representation course, I selected the French firm Agence Ter and compared their first American project (the winning design for Pershing Square competition in Los Angeles) to a former project in Paris (Les Halles with OMA).
