We believe finding the perfect soft furnishings to reflect all these things will ensure you feel happy and comfortable in your home for many years to come. Our customers return to us time and again because they trust us to not only produce beautiful soft furnishings, but also make the experience enjoyable and stress free. All our curtains, blinds and upholstery are made by local crafts people, and we'd love to show you examples of our recent creations.

You don't need to spend a fortune - or have an out of the ordinary home - to give every room the wow factor. All it takes is a little imagination and a willingness to experiment. Be bold with colour - This doesn’t mean having every wall painted bright red, but adding an accent colour with cushions, rugs or even a trim on curtains or blinds, can create interest and really make a room look “together”. Complementary colours (that sit opposite one another on a colour wheel) such as red/green; blue/orange or yellow/purple are particularly striking. Image courtesy of Harlequin

Add a feature - Most of us are familiar with the concept of a painted or papered feature wall, but there are other more ingenious ways to create features in a room: Try adding just a panel of paint or paper on a chimney breast or behind a sofa or table; hang pictures cleverly, small pictures can be lost in a large room, so group lots of them together to create an interesting and eclectic display; or even cover a large canvas in stunning fabric to create an individual and cost effective work ! st “You are the be of art. re to do

Q. I've noticed that machine made curtains are a bit cheaper than hand finished ones. Are hand finished curtains really worth the extra expense, or are machine made ones just as good?

Ask the expert...

A. Hand finished curtains have central seams that are machine stitched but pretty much everything else is done by hand - side and bottom hems, certain types of heading like pinch pleat and internal holding stitches. Professional, well made curtains are always hand finished and will last longer and look better than those entirely made by machine. Compare a drawer made with dove tail joints and one that is held together just with nails. They will both serve as drawers but the dovetailed one will last longer and look better. Obviously dove tailed joints take longer to make and require more skill. Likewise with hand finished curtains. Image courtesy of Jane Churchill It is the internal work that is not seen that is important as it will ultimately show in the way they drape and how long they last. Lining needs to be hand stitched not just at each side but also at other points within the body of the curtain, known as stab stitching, so that the fabric and the lining dress together, rather than flapping about independently. Hand stitching the sides also ensures the fabrics will not “pull” as they react to climactic influences. The face fabric of curtains will respond to heat, cold and moisture differently than lining fabrics. This can cause “twisting” of the leading edge in machine made curtains. Hand finished curtains also enable curtain makers to sew weights into the hem to improve the drape and dressing of the curtains. As with many things you get what you pay for. Quality made to measure curtains are not cheap nor should they be. Good tradespeople take pride in their jobs and take care to do them professionally. Curtain makers are no exception. Well made curtains are an investment. Consider how often you change them? Remember that they cover large expanses of a wall and have a significant impact on the look and finish of any room. They may be a bit more expensive - but are ultimately better value for money.

continue to create fresh and innovative designs that offer a beautiful and sophisticated look for both contemporary and classic interiors. Designed in England and woven in Scotland, their recently released wool collection encapsulates British craftsmanship and style. Woven in the lowlands of Lanarkshire, Scotland, near the hill and town of Tinto, these five wools give an innovative twist to traditional plaids, damasks and knitted patterns. The mix of natural marled wool yarns in subtle, glowing colours and natural linen yarns give contrast and texture to the designs.
