Fresh, fabulous and affordable! Recently launched by the Harlequin group, Scion is a refreshing new brand which is set to have a huge impact on the world of interior design. Scion was conceived to fill an obvious gap in the market for an affordable yet uncompromisingly stylish range of interior products. The brand has been created with a trend savvy, fashion aware customer in mind, its products are cutting-edge, sensibly priced and forward looking, but with an enduring appeal and intrinsic individuality. The debut collection, Melinki, comprises of an eclectic mix of printed fabrics, embroideries, jacquards, co-ordinating plains and complementary wallpapers, inspired in part by mid-century archive documents. Refreshingly uncomplicated yet powerfully effective, Melinki consciously channels fashion motifs and colours, as well as offering more than a passing nod to modern, Scandinavian design. Melinki bestows the freedom to create a diverse range of moods and looks through its eclectic designs and cool clean colour groups including costal calm, retro kitsch, Bakelite brights and urban neutrals. Scion is justifiably proud of its British roots: its printed fabrics and wallcoverings are all manufactured in the UK, by factories that have clear commitments towards the care of the environment and to sustainability. With prices starting at just ÂŁ25 per metre, come and browse this modern, fresh and affordable collection in our showroom now.

Top tips for saving energy this winter Let's face it, with the nights drawing in and the air decidedly chillier, it won't be long before we have to switch the heating on again. With the cost of utilities ever increasing, our thoughts turn to how we can save money over the winter months whilst keeping our houses cosy. As you know, heat loss is mainly caused by badly insulated walls and windows. But even if you have a fairly old house boasting single cavity walls and single glazed windows there is still much you can do to minimise heat loss and keep your energy bills down. For your curtains, choose a medium to heavy weight interlining - thick wadding that is sandwiched between the front fabric of your curtains and the lining fabric at the back of your curtains - this will act as the first barrier to your escaping heat and will add both warmth and luxury to your curtains. Also choose a thermal or blackout lining fabric. Thermal lining fabric has a thin, coated backing to it and is therefore effective at reducing heat loss. Blackout lining has an additional acrylic layer to prevent light passing through the fabric. For your blinds the same principles basically apply. As with our curtains, roman blinds can be made with light weight interlining and thermal or blackout lining. This combination is extremely effective at reducing draught from your windows and minimising heat loss particularly where your blind fits neatly into a recess. You can also maximise the thermal effectiveness of your curtains by returning the outside edges of each curtain to the wall. For maximum insulating effect also opt for a pelmet board, track and pelmet system, as opposed to a pole. This will help seal the cold air between the curtain and the window, rather than allowing it to escape into the room. Pop in to see us at 14 Queen Street, or call us on 01243 378831 for more information or advice about any of your window dressing needs.
