SYDNEY OVERSEA PASSENGER TERMINAL
Cruise terminal & New public space
location
A careful analytical studies on the physical context on Circular Quay suggests the great opportunity for an urban intervention through the creation of a new urban space; a new space specifically designed to contribute and build to the sensitive characteristic of its urban fabric. Restriction and urban constraints were identified through contextual analysis in order to further clarified the social need to further excel the urban space, existing urban constraints were preceived as controversial opportunities for better change.
concept
The project consist on bringing a new people’s place into its historical context, as eort to shift the existing vehicular dominated street into a friendly, walkable street; potentially generating generous publis spaces by completely opening up every opportunity for potential public domain. The gesture of openess and publicness should be a notion of contribution to the community.
programs
The proposal divide the building into two modes: ship-mode and non-ship mode. An extended landscape is extruded from its original landform, into a elevated platform of landscape, which is completely dedicated to the public; whereas, the on-ground level of the building is programmed to the function of an oversea passenger terminal during ship-mode. This space will be completely open during a non-ship day, with the sliding curtain wall system that enables the possibility of such openess. The organisation of the building display a generic study of public and private, and the proposal demonstrate the need to diuse that boundary in some cases, for instance a temporary use building like this.

New direction in regional housing
inspiration
The project found its inspiration by the regional landscape characteristic of Eden in NSW. The project tries to provoke spatial sensations in an living environment, that not only reflects the coastal characteristic and the rawness of the landscape, but also explore the relationship between a live-in space, and living space.

concept
This project treat the theme of duality and flexibility in space experiment and space continuity in a private residence. The contrast between the impressive and close aspect of exterior and interior, openness and privateness, materiality and attention to details to structure and construction, found to bring more sense and strength to the architectural thinking.
working method
The project progress through series of architectural and spatial analysis, architectural sketches to further understand the relationship of required internal space, as well as working in card model to comprehend three dimension design. With the combination of roof form in different direction, the challenge was to provide a practical solution in the proposed roofing system. Study model tried to integrate specific functions, scale and proportion in parts of the house in relation to human scale.

Urban Lightness
inspiration
The brief of the project basically suggested a concept of a medium-rise ‘vertical city’, a building consists a mixing of various programs. For this project, the source of inspiration was directly driven from the condition of George Street, the surrounding physical context and the ideology of what design and art should mean to the community.

concept
In a way to answer to the situation of George Street, in conjunction with the provided design brief and building function, the project worked into a concept that treat art and design with no boundaries, and that should be reect into the design of the building. The concept developed into an idea of creating a transparent artpiece in the middle of the historic and dense context, as well as integrate with strategic geometrical planning to better the immediate relationship between inside and outside.
uniďŹ cation of forms
Studies on several structural system, facade system, to explore the possibility of asserting a grand auditorium almost at the middle of the high-rise building. The complexity of its shape and its section also reect the simplicity of a building network or circulation could be. The proposed form deformed and adapted itself into the geometrical complexity of the shape.
