Hall of Fame nominees announced NASCAR recently announced the 20 nominees for the NASCAR Hall of Fame’s Class of 2019, as well as the five nominees for the Landmark Award for Outstanding Contributions to NASCAR. The list includes five first-time NASCAR Hall of Fame nominees, representing different facets

of NASCAR racing, all of whom influenced the sport throughout their brilliant careers.

Included among the list of new nominees is a four-time champion, Jeff Gordon; a pair of owners who teamed to build a two-time championship winning organization, John Holman and Ralph Moody; a four-

time championship winning crew chief, Kirk Shelmerdine; and a driver whose excellence spanned two decades and two series, Harry Gant.

The committee’s votes were tabulated by accounting firm EY. From the list of 20 NASCAR Hall of Fame nominees, five inductees will be elected by the NASCAR Hall of Fame Voting Panel, which includes a nationwide fan vote on NASCAR.com. Voting Day for the 2019 class will be Wednesday, May 23.

Added to this year’s list of Landmark Award nominees are Barney Hall and Jim Hunter. Three nominees return for the Landmark Award: Ralph Seagraves, Janet Guthrie and Alvin Hawkins (more on each below). Potential Landmark Award recipients include competitors or those working in the sport as a member of a racing organization, track facility, race team, sponsor, media partner or being a general ambassador for the sport through a professional or non-professional role. Award winners remain eligible for NHOF enshrinement.

NASCAR launches new fantasy game Following a successful first season of stage racing, NASCAR recently announced a new fantasy game inspired by the competition format that has created closer, side-by-side racing and even more dramatic moments throughout races.

Accessible via NASCAR.com and the NASCAR Mobile app, the allnew NASCAR Fantasy Live follows the NASCAR official scoring system, allows players to make in-race driver substitutions and features incentives for correctly predicting stage wins, race wins and more.

Players can register at NASCAR. com/fantasy.

“In NASCAR, every lap matters,” said Tim Clark, managing director, NASCAR Digital Media. “The new NASCAR Fantasy Live game reflects the lap-by-lap intensity of modern NASCAR racing by giving fans the opportunity to strategize and adjust their driver lineups in real-time during races.”

In NASCAR Fantasy Live, players pick five drivers to start prior to each Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race. In addition, a sixth “garage” driver on the roster can be swapped in-race for any active driver before the final stage begins.

Game scoring follows NASCAR official scoring and rewards points based on race results and driver finishing position for all three stages. Only drivers in the “starting” position at the end of each race will earn fantasy points.

Individual drivers can be used a maximum of 10 times during the season. If a driver ends the race in the player’s garage, it will not count against the season limit.

During races, drivers running in the top 10 at the conclusion of Stage 1 and Stage 2 receive points, beginning with 10 points for the stage winner, nine points for second place, eight points for third place, and so on.

Mirroring how Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series races are scored, the race-winning driver earns 40 points, the second-place finisher 35 points, the third-place finisher 34 points, and so forth. The final four drivers to finish each race earn one point apiece.

Players can also score bonus points by correctly picking the pole winner (5 points), Stage 1 winner (10 points), Stage 2 winner (10 points), winning manufacturer (10 points) and race-winning driver (30 points).

NASCAR Fantasy Live will run throughout the 26-week Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series regular season and culminate with the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sept. 9. The overall points leader after the final race will be crowned 2018 champion and win $10,000.

The NASCAR Fantasy Live enhancements are aimed at providing players more opportunities to engage with the game during races, while honoring the nuances of NASCAR’s stage-based format.

“As our sport continues to evolve, it only made sense for our fantasy game to follow suit,” said Clark. “The new NASCAR Fantasy Live will engage fans more deeply than ever before, and we’re excited about that.”

In-car cameras to stream live on Twitter

NASCAR announced recently it will livestream one in-car camera on Twitter for 15 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series races during the second half of the 2018 racing season, including all 10 NASCAR Playoffs races.

Beginning with five regular-season races this summer, the experience will once again provide fans a unique look from inside the race car with a live camera stream that can be accessed via NASCAR’s official Twitter handle, @ NASCAR. Fans can watch full broadcasts of these regular-season and NASCAR Playoffs races on NBC or NBCSN, NBCSports. com and the NBC Sports app.

NASCAR debuted the in-car camera live stream on Twitter during last year’s NASCAR Playoffs, when four Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series championship contenders drove the live audience on Twitter from the green flag all the way to Victory Lane.

“We’ve created an experience that brings Twitter users inside the cars at speeds of more than 200 miles per hour,” said Jill Gregory, senior vice president and chief marketing officer for NASCAR. “The live stream is yet another window into our sport that captures all the drama and intensity of

NASCAR racing.”

Fans on Twitter will experience an in-car camera live stream from the iconic Daytona International Speedway for the first time during the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race on July 7.

NASCAR will also stream an in-car camera on Twitter during regular-season races at the road course at Watkins Glen International (Aug. 5), the night race at Bristol Motor Speedway (Aug. 18), the sport’s annual throwback event at Darlington Raceway (Sept. 2) and the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway (Sept. 9).

This live stream will be accessible for free for logged-in and logged-out users in the United States via NASCAR’s official Twitter handle and connected devices. Realtime race highlights will also be available on @ NASCAR, offering fans additional ways to follow the races at home or on the go.

On the same screen of this live stream, fans will find a real-time curated timeline of Tweets that capture the best of the NASCAR race live conversation.

“We are thrilled that NASCAR will make its in-car cameras available on Twitter in 2018,” said Laura Froelich, global head of sports partnerships at Twitter.

“NASCAR fans will once again be able to

access these unique in-car cameras at the same speed as the realtime conversation — all in one place on Twitter.”

Last fall, 2017 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Champion Martin Truex Jr., Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick and Brad Keselowski each scored race wins as the featured driver in the NASCAR Playoffs live stream,

crossing the finish line and taking the checkered flag with viewers on Twitter in tow.

NASCAR.com will continue to offer its full portfolio of complementary viewing products throughout the 2018 season. In-car camera angles will also be available on NASCAR Drive and NASCAR Mobile.
