Stacie Murphy began writing her first novel, A Deadly Fortune, as a way to force herself to stay off Twitter in the evenings. It was published by Pegasus Crime in January 2021. Publishers Weekly, in a starred review, called it a “sterling debut” and predicted that readers would be eager for a sequel. The Unquiet Dead was released in April 2022 to similar acclaim. Publishers Weekly called it a “stellar sequel” and Murphy a “historical writer to watch.”
