Hypercity Toronto | Ontario
Situated in the upcoming neighborhood of St. Lawrence in Toronto Canada, this building brings the idea of vertical, multi-level design forward. This building combines a variety of programs including: residential, commercial, retail, light industrial and recreational spaces to create a small neighborhood in one city block. The basic snake typology allows for a variety of outdoor and built spaces, with towers extruding up. The form was decided after extensive studies of Toronto’s program layout, height studies and city/site circulation. Our building allows for multiple levels of open public spaces as well as a variety of closed spaces. The steel structure plays many roles for this building. While holding up the building, the diagrid allows for large column free spans, making more flexible floor plans. The circulation of the building is exposed through, angled cores, enabling one to have a visual connection from the outside with their route inside.

Arctic Pirouette Gjoa Haven | Nunavut
SSEF Award of Merit Winner 2016 Worked with Jinsu Park and Catherine Tan
Canada’s Arctic communities present a number of challenges solving the structure of building on permafrost in societies that exist in an extreme climate. Building on permafrost is difficult because the heat of the building can thaw the permafrost and destabilize the structure. Our solution to this problem is to suspend our building so the least amount of area will make contact to the ground. The suspension happens at the top of the central column. Like a ballerina standing on one leg performing a pirouette, the building spirals up the three floors of the research center around the central core. The cables are distributed to stabilize the two ramps and three floor plates. Though the research facility is located in Gjoa Haven, the structure is a modular system that can be constructed anywhere in Canada’s Arctic as the structure is not invasive to the ground.

Parabolic Pirouettes Charleson Park | Vancouver Worked with Alison McNeil
Inspired by parabolic curves and proportions synonymous to ratios from Pascal’s triangle, the Parabolic Pirouette, a pedestrian bridge, frames Vancouver’s skyline and connects the False creek in a new way creating a beautiful experience. This bridge connects two focal points of Charleson Park allowing for voyages across with never before seen views on both sides. On one side, the suspension cables of the bridge add a splash of colour to the beautiful sight of Vancouver’s skyline, while in the opposite direction the transitional scene of city to water to park is established. Parabolic Pirouettes connects the urban and natural environments of Vancouver.

Infinite Exploration Hokkaido| Japan
On a winding road, you come across the Lodge of Infinite Exploration. You enter what seems like a small village of simple wooden A-frame buildings, each one unique. From there, you start your journey. Between the dense forest, from one path to another, you are brought into the nature of Oyunuma, forced to be one with the branches, the leaves, the sky and the hills. Each step brings you to a new view, a new place. The bathing garden, a smooth, simple, yet inviting space. Inside, there is no mystery with where to go, from one experience to another, you move through the building and come out changed. The architecture leads you through then out to the next journey. Each winding path leads you to a new place, to a new journey, to a new place of exploration.

#IdeasForTheBrave New York City | New York
While working at ICRAVE, I was given the opportunity to work on a personal initiative. I chose to focus on ICRAVE’s mantra “Ideas for the Brave” to create a public projection art installation to start a series of installations for the following interns to continue. Through the projections, I wanted to find a creative way to bring the essence of ICRAVE to the public. By taking various features from design projects, I was able to abstract through cropping and animating in a kaleidescope like fashion. Through the use of the hashtag, I hope to create an online archive of this series.

PASSAGE
Nuit Blanche | Toronto smjilk
PASSAGE is an installation for Nuit Blanche 2018 created by the artist collective smjilk. The piece invites the audience to be severed from the singularity of an individual’s life to reflect on their interactions within their personal and public spheres. They will be transported into a luminescent pathway where individuals will navigate through the structure, guided by a woven arrangement of polyester string. Overall, Passage represents the multiplicity of the city, its infinite possibilities, and the ways city and inhabitant challenge each other to change.

Personal Work Visual Art & Photography
From a young age I have had a passion for art. I started drawing and painting when I was a baby and have since developed my skills and ideas into my current work. As photography became more accessible, I began taking photos. With the constant shift in technology, I have had the experience of using both traditional film and darkroom techniques as well as digital techniques. Now photography has become a vital part of my life.
