TRI-PARN SITE: Ahmedabad, Gujarat. (Live Project) SEMESTER: 03
VISION The competition project entails creating a pavilion with functional internal space, emphasizing “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” principles. The brief explicitly directs the design to be constructed entirely from pre-used, discarded, or waste materials. This design draws inspiration from discarded coconut shells, embodying responsible design and sustainability. It caters to both kids and elders, offering playful exploration for children and a gathering spot for the elderly. Through creative use of coconuts, it addresses slow biodegradation and highlights their regenerative potential, aiming to foster a deeper connection with nature. Drawing inspiration from the common practice of discarding coconut shells after quenching one’s thirst, we’ve envisioned a pavilion constructed entirely from used tender coconuts. The extended biodegradation period of these shells serves as a poignant reminder of the environmental impact of thoughtless waste disposal. This pavilion serves a dual purpose. Firstly, it acts as a poignant reminder of our responsibility towards the environment, offering a visual commentary on the need for conscious material choices. Secondly, it serves as a testament to the power of regeneration and recycling in architecture. As visitors engage with this organic, coconut-inspired pavilion, they will immerse themselves in an environment that seamlessly merges with the surrounding natural landscape.

FOUNDATION The process began by collecting discarded tin oil cans, which were later cleaned and had holes drilled into opposite faces to accommodate reinforcement bars. After securely binding the reinforcement within the cans, concrete was poured, and the structures were left to dry overnight. Subsequently, they positioned these structures into previously excavated pits. The central foundation was executed using the cast in situ method, as it effectively distributed and transferred loads by connecting one end of all the arches in the center.

SOLACE SQUARE SITE: Gateway Of India, Mumbai. (Competition project) SEMESTER: 03
VISION The task was to reimagine and redesign India’s iconic structures and monuments, preserving their historical significance while enhancing their positive social impact within their existing locations. The unprecedented 26/11 Mumbai attack left an enduring impact, claiming brave heroes and innocent lives. The Solace Square at Gateway humbly stands in remembrance of the martyred, paying homage to the 166 lives lost and over 200 injuries. The design took shape by mapping the attack locations on-site, incorporating seven significant sites as a tribute to the victims. It comprises seven galleries, each featuring a central memorial stone engraved with the attack locations. Metal poles, adorned with LED fixtures, encircle the galleries, serving as a symbolic candle tribute. The galleries collectively guide movement toward the central plaza, featuring a centralized courtyard tree symbolizing the nucleus of life. The tree poignantly depicts a soldier being buried as a seed, eventually yielding the fruits of life. These versatile spaces cater to meditation, art displays, and exhibitions. The pavilion, with its strong aesthetics, visually captivates the site, providing a significant treat to residents, tourists, and ferry commuters. The circulation design thoughtfully conveys the chaos of the attack, deliberately evoking a sense of claustrophobia.

JALYATRA SITE: Viramgam, Gujarat. (Competition project) SEMESTER: 03
VISION The brief urged a fresh perspective to uncover public space improvement opportunities and called for innovative designs using contemporary solutions to enhance user experiences in the growing age of travel and tourism. Embracing Viramgam’s sacred legacy, our concept ingeniously weaves a water channel that connects all the town’s religious nodes, transforming the pilgrimage into a profound journey, where the sacred waters guide devotees on their spiritual quest, enriching their experience as they traverse from one sacred site to another. Thus, the overall space was designed to be universal, seamlessly integrating with the natural landscape while respecting and preserving the sacred religious context, ensuring harmony and inclusivity in every aspect of the design. Crafted with smaller openings from within, the responsive roof, encircling tranquil waters, orchestrates the grandeur of Navratri and the serenity of Maha Aarti, offering a captivating contrast with larger openings when viewed from the outside.

GANDHI CHRONICLES SITE: Gandhi Asharam, Ahmedabad (Studio project) SEMESTER: 03
VISION The task involved designing an exhibition space within Gandhi Ashram, dedicated to showcasing the enduring legacy of Mahatma Gandhi. The goal was to infuse the space with the essence of Gandhi’s life, creating a tribute that captures the spirit of his principles and contributions. The exhibition space at Gandhi Ashram was meticulously designed to encapsulate the essence of Mahatma Gandhi’s life and teachings. The central water courtyard, drawing inspiration from the ashram’s own architectural ethos, served as a focal point. This serene space not only paid homage to Gandhi’s simple and contemplative lifestyle but also offered a refreshing ambiance with gentle breezes reaching every corner. A key feature was the intentional transition between semi-open and closed exhibition spaces, fostering direct interaction with the audience. This design choice aimed to ensure that visitors not only absorbed the wealth of information about Gandhiji but also actively engaged with the exhibits. The presence of a souvenir store strategically placed at the entry point provided an opportunity for visitors to carry a piece of Gandhi’s philosophy with them. Benches encircling the water body offered a space for contemplation and relaxation. This allowed visitors to immerse themselves in the exhibition, providing moments of reflection and connection with Gandhi’s principles.
