INTRODUCTION "A functional design can promote skill, economy, conveniences, and comforts; a non-functional design can impede activities of all types, detract from quality of care, and raise costs to intolerable levels." ... Maternity health care units play a big role in the population growth of a country. The unconfined population growth in India has led to an increase in the demand for health care units in the urban and rural areas. Our population faces a crises of such healthcare units and hence this topic has been chosen to address the growing burden of maternal morbidity and consequent mortality among women in developing countries. A maternity hospital project has been proposed in an effort to resolve the underlying causes of high maternal deaths by improving maternal health interventions. One of the most pertinent issues that require research focus is that of the provision of skilled birth attendance and effects on maternal health outcomes. This proposed hospital envisions at effective tackling of various challenges with respect to improving the quantity and quality of care provided to women before, during and after pregnancy. Various studies conducted across the world has led us to believe that the exploration of the spatial qualities that play a vital role in affecting the health of a patient. The results obtained highlight the key elements which are absent in a hospital edifice and our much required for healing. In a country like ours where the neonatility , malnutrition and death due to high percentage of expecting mothers to be suffering from anaemia, the need of maternity and child care unit for the growing population
becomes rather significant and proposing an efficient, fully equipped maternity home that combats all the current issues faced becomes even more important. AIM To design a 100 bedded mother and child care hospital unit which will incorporate every sphere of the growth and healing of mother and child together . The proposed hospital visions at bringing together a correct blend of spatial requirement and positive environment which will help in speedy recovery . The hospital also aims at providing best services and facilities to tackle the challenges of population demand yet being a state of art fully equipped and technologically advanced unit. A positive built environment can contribute to reducing infections. ► The built environment can enhance the comfort, and control. ► Examples of design features are: single-bed rooms and identical rooms.
► Most staff outcomes are empirical based and not scientifically proven.
OBJECTIVE To treat our medical spaces that help in rejuvenating ones soul , restoring hope and energy Creating a familiar environment which helps reducing stress and anxiety and helps in better and faster healing ,Healing spaces evoke a sense of cohesion of the mind, body, and spirit. NEED OF THE PROJECT In India about 2.6 crore children are born each year. About 12.7 lakh die before they reach their fifth birthday. More than 50 per cent of these children die from preventable or treatable infections such as pneumonia and diarrhoea. Data shows that 25 per cent of deliveries still take place at home. Only two of 10 home deliveries are conducted by a trained birth attendant, with low birthweight, infection and birth asphyxia accounting for 35 per cent, 33 per cent and 20 per cent of new born deaths, the adverse condition of mothers and children needs to be paid heat to. Mothers and newborns need hygienic and safe delivery practices for a better future growth and development.
HYPOTHESIS The Government’s overall aims for maternity services are set out in the circular: Indian Standard guidelines for maternity nursing home. Are the services provided at the new combined maternity unit in terms with the Indian standards? The unit provides treatment and care of the highest quality with the proposed design and not compromising standard of care.Woman being the core user of the unit, is the design being made woman centric. Is the design capable enough to provide the care to mother and child for years to come?

Strengths
1. To provide expertise in mother and child care . 2. The place is very well connected to metro and road. 3. The entrance is not hidden and enclosed which will provide easy to and fro movement. 4. The place has no pre built structure or trees. 5.The land is adequate to make a good hospital with a decent no. Of beds . 6.The two senior hospitals next to it makes the referring of critical patients as well as advices of senior hospitals very reachable
Weakness 1. A special wing just for mother and child may not be a judicious use of the land . 2. Staff arrangements is always a problem . 3. Though the place is very well connected the parking space is still an issue . 4.Emergency wing is present at the lnjp hospital . Now to connect the emergency to this special building internally would still be a challenge.
Opportunity 1. To make a hospital run on bio fuels and cleaner options . 2. To bring in superior technology. 3.Icu can be made with better bed strength.
Threats
1.the place has rocky land . 2 . Construction may take lot of time considering supreme courts and ngt banning it every now and then in the ncr. 3. The land has been around a place that see frequent protests and hence it may trouble the progress at which its building is planned. 4. The construction will create hazard for people who stay near the land and who are visiting patient in the neighbouring hospitals
