A graduate of St. Matthew’s University School of Medicine in Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, he completed a residency at Genesis Quad Cities Family Medicine in Davenport, IA, and a fellowship with Summa Health Sports Medicine.
Mark Cipriani, M.D., is fellowship-trained and board-certified in primary care sports medicine. He completed his family medicine training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, and an additional year of training through a fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland.

Robert Crawford, M.D., has deep roots in the Akron community. He has been the team physician for Wadsworth High School since 1992 and the Akron Aeros/RubberDucks since 2010. Over the past 25 years, Dr. Crawford has served as the head team physician for Kent State University and event physician for the Akron Marathon. He also has assisted with the medical care for many other Akron-area events.
Blossom Heindel, D.O., graduated medical school at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed a family medicine residency at Summa Health System – Akron Campus and a primary care sports medicine fellowship at Akron Children’s Hospital. She currently practices primary care sports medicine for Summa Health Medical Group and is the team physician for Manchester High School.
Dr. Crawford is an associate clinical professor of sports medicine at Northeast Ohio Medical University and Ohio University Heritage School of Medicine, and is an avid educator of residents, fellows, medical students, and patients. Dylan Childs, M.D., is a board-certified hand and plastic/ reconstructive surgeon with interests in hand and wrist pathology, peripheral nerve conditions and the soft tissue component of complex extremity reconstruction. He graduated from Northeast Ohio Medical University and completed residencies in general surgery and plastic surgery at Summa Health, as well as a fellowship in hand and microsurgery at the University of Louisville Hospital.
Dr. Vallandingham currently serves as the team physician/ medical staff for Cuyahoga Falls High School, the Akron Marathon Race Series and the Akron RubberDucks. Ryan Combs, M.D., majored in biology at Grace College, IN, and received medical training at Southern Illinois University, where he found his passion to pursue a career in orthopedics. He completed residency training in orthopedic surgery at Cleveland Clinic Akron General and received specialty training in Indianapolis under world-renowned surgeon, Dr. Michael Meneghini. Under Dr. Meneghin’s guidance, Dr. Combs learned advanced techniques in total knee and total hip replacement, including the latest advances in allowing rapid, yet safe, discharge to home after total joint replacement. He also performed hip and knee replacements and general orthopedic services at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center. Dr. Combs is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.
Donald Fisher, M.D., is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and has been in practice for 25 years. Bradley Inkrott, M.D., a native of Findlay, OH, is a boardcertified, fellowship-trained surgeon who specializes in the care of disorders of the entire spine. He completed his undergraduate studies at Miami University in Oxford, OH, and received his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. A graduate of Summa Health’s orthopedic surgery residency program, Dr. Inkrott pursued further fellowship training in complex spine surgery at Case Western Reserve University. In his free time, Dr. Inkrott enjoys the Akron-area community with his wife and two young children in addition to college sports, exercise and golf.
A native of Elyria, OH, Matthew Jaykel, M.D., is an orthopedic spine surgeon who specializes in minimally invasive treatment of the entire spine, as well as adult spinal deformity. He completed his undergraduate studies at Youngstown State University and his medical training at Northeast Ohio Medical University. Dr. Jaykel went on to complete an orthopedic surgery residency at Western Michigan University followed by an adult spine surgery fellowship at Duke University in Durham, NC. Jeffrey Junko, M.D., a foot and ankle surgeon, has been in the Akron area since graduating from The University of Akron in 1995. Derek Klaus, M.D., is a graduate of The University of Toledo College of Medicine and the Summa Health orthopedic surgery residency program. Eric Miller, M.D., was born and raised in Northeast Ohio, where he now resides with his family. He completed his residency at Summa Health and his orthopedic trauma fellowship at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, TX, the nation’s first level-one trauma center. He has served as the orthopedic trauma director at Summa Health System for the past 12 years since returning to Akron.
Kiel Pfefferle, M.D., is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and native of Tiffin, OH. He received his degree in mechanical engineering from The Ohio State University and completed his medical education at The Ohio State University. There he was awarded the John B. Roberts award for excellence in orthopedic academic performance and research.
In addition to caring for orthopedic trauma patients, Dr. Miller serves as an associate professor of orthopedic surgery at Northeast Ohio Medical University. He enjoys playing piano, reading, and coaching his three children in youth sports. A native of the Akron area, Jacqueline Tulodzieski-Ahlstrom, DPM, attended The University of Akron, earning a degree in secondary education before realizing her passion was medicine. She attended the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine (now known as Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine) and spent her first year of residency at the former Summa Health Western Reserve Hospital. Dr. Tulodzieski-Ahlstrom then transferred to Inova Fairfax Hospital, a level-1 trauma center in Falls Church, VA.

Raised in Akron, Scott Weiner, M.D., has been practicing orthopedic oncology for 27 years at Summa Health System – Akron Campus. A graduate of Summa Akron City Hospital’s residency program, he did additional training in orthopedic oncology at the University of Florida prior to returning to Akron to run the residency training program. Dr. Weiner is the chair of orthopedics at Summa Health System. His practice focuses on bone and muscle tumors in children and adults.

Michele Fabian graduated from Cleveland State University with a Master of Science in health sciences in addition to a physician assistant studies certificate from Cuyahoga Community College. Today, she leads podiatry at the Summa Health Internal Medicine and Family Practice residency clinics. Michele specializes in diabetic foot care and general podiatry conditions, including plantar warts, toenail fungus, minor foot wounds, thick toenails, heel pain, calluses and corns, athletes foot, general foot pain, diabetic foot exams, high arched feet and flat feet.

Mia is originally from Indiana where she attended Butler University for both her bachelor’s degree in health sciences and master’s degree in physician assistant studies. In her free time, she enjoys trying new restaurants, attending and participating in local community theater, and exploring Northeast Ohio.

During her engineering schooling, she was employed at DePuy Orthopaedics as a biomedical engineer co-op.
Jennifer Fautas treats patients with spinal conditions alongside Dr. Inkrott and Dr. Jaykel in office and surgical settings. She has previous experience as an APRN working in pain management and, prior to that, as a registered nurse in the intensive care and critical care setting. A registered nurse for more than 12 years, Jennifer is a boardcertified APRN through the American Nurses Credentialing Center. He focuses on orthopedic trauma alongside Eric Miller, M.D. Originally from western NY, Tyler graduated with a Bachelor of Science in sports medicine in 2016 and obtained his master’s in physician assistant studies in 2018, both from Mercyhurst University in Erie, PA.
A registered nurse at Summa Health since 2015, Alix Melville joined the Summa Health Orthopedic Institute in 2020 as a certified nurse practitioner. She focuses primarily on adult reconstruction, treating patients within the clinical setting and assisting in surgery alongside Kiel Pfefferle, M.D. Alix received a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Walsh University and obtained her master’s degree from Malone University, specializing as an acute care adult-gerontology nurse practitioner.
