A Customized Learning Experience BrainHQ’s programming is designed to adapt to your existing and improving skill levels. As you succeed, the exercises will get more challenging. These adaptive exercises mean that you can challenge yourself at a pace that’s best for you. Or choose your own program path based on your interests or mood. The Science Behind BrainHQ More than 100 scientific publications have shown the benefits of BrainHQ. The World Health Organization recommends cognitive brain training for older adults “to reduce the risk of cognitive decline and/or dementia.” BrainHQ was designed by the internationally recognized scientist, Dr. Michael Merzenich, who discovered brain plasticity and won the Kavli Prize in Neuroscience (the near equivalent to the Nobel Prize for neuroscience). summahealth.org Summa Health Wednesday, March 16 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 22 12 p.m. Saturday, March 26 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 29 1 p.m. Thursday, March 31 6 p.m. SummaCare is an HMO and HMO-POS plan with Medicare contract. Dear <First Name>, Colorectal cancer does not always show symptoms in the early stages, which is why many people wait to get a screening. Symptoms may include stomach pain or changes in bowel movement patterns, such as diarrhea, constipation or blood in your stool. Don’t wait for symptoms to appear to get your screening. Call today.

Five recommended options available to you are:

Screening Colonoscopy: This is the most effective screening for early detection or prevention since it checks the entire colon and rectum for abnormalities. You need to get a screening colonoscopy every 10 years if you’re not at an increased risk for colorectal cancer and no abnormalities were found during the test.

Flexible Sigmoidoscopy: This screening only checks part of your colon and your rectum for abnormalities. This screening is not as effective at early detection and prevention as a colonoscopy that checks your entire colon and rectum. You need to get this screening every five years or as recommended by your primary care provider.

CT Colonography (Virtual Colonoscopy): This is an advanced CT scan using X-rays to view the inside of the colon and rectum. It is less invasive than a colonoscopy. You need to get this screening every five years or as recommended by your primary care provider.

FOBT or FIT Kit: These screening tests detect hidden (occult) blood in your stool. You would need to have this screening annually, and it can be completed in the convenience of your home; however, these screening tests are not as effective for early detection and cannot help prevent colorectal cancer like getting a screening colonoscopy or flexible sigmoidoscopy.

Stool DNA (Cologuard): This screening looks for altered DNA from cancer or polyp cells and blood in the stool. A kit is used for you to collect a stool sample in your home and mail it to the lab for testing. This test should be done every three years or as recommended by your primary care provider.

If you already had a colonoscopy or flexible sigmoidoscopy prior to becoming a SummaCare member, please complete the enclosed Test Verification Form and send it back in the postagepaid envelope. For completing one of the following screenings: a screening colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, CT Colonography, FIT kit, or Cologuard by <<<< Date >>>>, you will receive one <<<< Gift Card >>>>. The gift card will be mailed within 45 days after claims are paid by SummaCare.

These tests each have pros and cons, and your primary care provider can help you determine which is better for you. Most importantly, GET SCREENED, no matter which test you choose.

James F. Grow,

F.

Dear <First Name>, Women’s health is very important to us. As your partner in health, we encourage you to receive an annual, preventive mammogram to screen for breast cancer. There is no cost to you for this important preventive screening when you visit a facility in your SummaCare network. HOW TO SCHEDULE YOUR MAMMOGRAM: Call 888.908.0314 for any of the following convenient Summa Health locations: Akron, Green, Medina, Wadsworth, Barberton, Hudson, Tallmadge, West Akron-White Pond, Cuyahoga Falls, Stow-Kent. For other locations in your network, go to and click on the Find Your Doctor” button. Summa Health’s mammography locations do not require an order for a screening mammogram; however, other mammography sites may request that your primary care provider (PCP) or gynecologist send an order for this procedure. If you do not have a PCP or gynecologist, selecting one is an important first step toward managing your healthcare. Choose a selection in your network by going to summacare.com and clicking on the “Find Your Doctor” button. If you have questions about why you need a mammogram, please call your primary care provider (PCP) or gynecologist. Seasonal flu varies in severity, and in most cases it takes seven or more days to recover from the illness. Getting an annual flu vaccine is the single most effective way to protect yourself against the flu. Here’s how to get your flu shot: Go to any in-network pharmacy offering the flu vaccination. Call the pharmacy in advance to make sure they offer vaccinations, have the vaccine available and the best time of day to get a vaccination. You can find a pharmacy by visiting summacare.com. Click on “Find Your Pharmacy” on the right side under the “Find” tools and enter your search criteria. Simply present your SummaCare Member ID card at any of the in-network pharmacies and no copay will be required. Check with your SummaCare provider. Ask if they have vaccines available. Please be aware that you may be asked to pay a copay if you receive additional services during your office visit. NOTE: A visit to an urgent care center for your flu shot will result in either an urgent care copay or deductible plus coinsurance, depending on your schedule of benefits. Dear <First Name>, Colorectal cancer does not always show symptoms in the early stages, which is why many people wait to get a screening. Symptoms may include stomach pain or changes in bowel movement patterns, such as diarrhea, constipation or blood in your stool. Don’t wait for symptoms to appear before you get your screening. Call today. Options available to you are: Screening Colonoscopy This is the most effective screening for early detection or prevention since it checks the entire colon and rectum for abnormalities. You need to get a screening colonoscopy every 10 years if you’re not at an increased risk for colorectal cancer and no abnormalities were found during the test. Flexible Sigmoidoscopy This screening only checks part of your colon and your rectum for abnormalities. This screening is not as effective at early detection and prevention as a colonoscopy that checks your entire colon and rectum. You need to get this screening every five years or as recommended by your primary care provider. CT Colonography (Virtual Colonoscopy) This is an advanced CT scan using X-rays to view the inside of the colon and rectum. These tests each have pros and cons, and your primary care provider can help you determine which is better for you. Most importantly, GET SCREENED, no matter which test you choose. Sincerely, James F. Grow, Jr. James F. Grow, Jr., M.D. Medical Director Contact your Primary Care Provider (PCP) to schedule a screening today. Are you avoiding your colorectal screening? those with a family history of breast cancer, screening may be recommended at age 35. Dense breasts can increase your risk for breast cancer. It is important to know if you have dense breasts. Women who have increased density in 75 percent or more of their breast are four to six times more likely to develop breast cancer.

A Breast Cancer Risk Assessment can help you understand your individual risk for developing breast cancer, by analyzing your unique risk factors with breast cancer risk models.

Get more information about preventive services for women at healthcare.gov/preventive-care-adults Dear <First Name>, Women’s health is very important to us. For other locations in your network, go to summacare.com and click on the “Find Your Doctor” button. Summa Health’s mammography locations do not require an order for a screening mammogram; however, other mammography sites may request that your primary care provider (PCP) or gynecologist send an order for this procedure. In addition, it is also recommended that women have a preventive cervical cancer screening starting at age 21 through age 64. Cervical cancer screening, commonly called a Pap smear, is important because it identifies early signs of unknown cervical cancer. Early detection will make treatment easier. Cervical cancer screening is an important part of your wellness exam. HOW TO SCHEDULE YOUR CERVICAL CANCER SCREENING: Call your primary care provider (PCP) or gynecologist. If you do not have a PCP or gynecologist, selecting one is an important first step toward managing your healthcare. Choose a selection in your network by going to summacare.com and clicking on the “Find Your Doctor” button. If you have questions about why you need a mammogram and/or cervical cancer screening, please call your primary care provider (PCP) or gynecologist. Sincerely, James F. Grow, Jr. James F. Why Should I Get a Breast Cancer Screening? About one in eight American women will develop invasive breast cancer. It is most common in women over 50, but may occur much earlier.
