Washington Outdoor School with Suncadia Risk Waiver and Consents, 2020-2021 School Year Welcome to our Suncadia Camp Pilot Program. Due to the current recommendations from the Center for Disease Control and Department of Health, we are instituting a variety of policies and procedures to keep our staff and students safe and healthy. Our classes will have no more than 8 students and 2 staff at all times. We will regularly explore within a variety of landscapes that include forests, dirt, sometimes rocky, trails and the river corridor. We believe the benefit of exploring diverse environments outweighs the risks and also want to be sure families are aware there are risks. Please read the following closely and initial that you understand the statements. Please initial as you read each section below and sign at the bottom of the document. ______ I acknowledge that my child/ children will attend camp in an all-outdoor classroom and may be exposed to the following: - Domestic or wild animals - A variety of insects and plant life that may be harmful with contact - Allergens which may include nuts, pollen, animal fur, plant oils, etc‌ - Inclement weather which could include rain, wind, intense heat or smoke from wildfire which may result in school cancellations or closures - Garbage, possibly hazardous, including glass or other undesirable items that might be found in public places or within in easy access of the public ______ I acknowledge that outdoor classrooms on public property or on locally managed forest trails may include the following: - Shared use of public spaces including trails and river access along the trail - Interacting with “strangersâ€? (general public) - Hand washing due to limited or no access to running water may include the use of hand sanitizer and cleansing wipes. ______ I recognize that my child/ children may engage in permitted activities including: - Hiking on private and public trails and paths - Going near creeks and rivers - Tree climbing within our policy that a child will climb no higher than s/he/they are tall and with constant supervision of staff who stand within reach of children. - Climbing on rocks, boulders, logs, stumps or hillsides - Jumping from heights that are no taller than the child - Big body play including rolling, running, sliding and tumbling - Foraging for, harvesting and utilizing wild plants with adult direction and supervision - Playing with, building with and utilizing sticks that are no taller than the child except in instances where children may work together to move large branches or longer sticks during constructions activities (i.e. fort building)
