High school softball
South’s 8 decorated seniors set for final ride
By CHRIS MASSE cmasse@sungazette.com
The band is back together one last time. And after producing so many impressive performances since the youth level, they hope their best act is their swan song.
It the end of the road for eight decorated South Williamsport seniors who have helped the Little League team reach the World Series and the high school team capture three straight District 4 Class AA championships, while reaching last year’s state championship.
These players have become like sisters throughout their years playing softball and most will go their separate ways, several playing at different colleges following graduation. So as lofty as South’s team goals are this season, the Mounties also likely will focus on simply enjoying the moments and the bond they will share these next few months.
South opened its season last Monday at Myrtle Beach. This preview went to press Monday, so all the information in the following team previews is through last weekend’s games.
DR. MASSE'S TOP FIVE (LAST YEAR'S RECORD IN PARENTHESES)
1. South Williamsport (24-3): Pitcher Alizabeth Schuler is the two-time Sun-Gazette Player of the Year, shortstop Gianna Goodman a two-time allstate selection and catcher Lily Reidy should have been all-state last year. Several others on this team have that potential as well and

this is a lineup loaded from top to bottom. Consider that Lock Haven-bound Maddie Pinkerton hits eighth and would be among most team’s top of the orders and one gets a feel for how deep this lineup goes. Eight players have started for at least three years, Emma McLaughlin played well at second base last season and Emily Holtzapple delivered some vital at-bats during the postseason run. Schuler, Goodman, Reidy, Abby Lorson and Sage Lorson
all have at least 70 career hits and junior Mikaiya Hills has a .383 career average. Schuler enters the season with 97 career RBIs and hit .505 last season, while Reidy hit .474 with nine home runs and Goodman .444. Hills and Abby Lorson both hit above .400 and Sage Lorson drove in 32 runs, hitting two home runs in the state semifinals against Bald Eagle Area. Schuler and Kendall Cardone both pitched well last year and Schuler has 14 career playoff wins.
2. Loyalsock (20-4): Loyalsock was the only District 4 team to defeat South last year and reached the state quarterfinals for the first time since 2008. The Lancers defeated previous Class AAA champion Mid Valley in states and gave state finalist Juniata a battle in the quarterfinals. Loyalsock has a lot of offensive pop to replace but also returns its top two pitchers in Sophia Miller and Lydia Kresock; has a nice core of starters back and adds some exciting

freshmen. Maddie Wertz returning from injury provides another boost. Miller went 14-3 during a breakout sophomore campaign, striking out 80, going 3-1 in the playoffs and compiling a 2.48 ERA. Kresock also has pitched over the last two years and provides quality depth as well as another experienced bat. Sofia Mileto is the team’s lone senior and hit .394 with three playoff home runs, 21 RBIs, 26 runs and 14 stolen bases. Shyla Fulp is a three-year starter
3. Jersey Shore (14-7): The two-time defending District 4 Class AAAA champions took a big graduation hit, but maintain a strong nucleus in a softball-rich community. Isabelle Engel, Lynna Clark and Lexi Frey all are quality pitchers and Frey came up huge as a freshman last season when Engel suffered a late-season injury, throwing a seven-hit gem in the district championship against Montoursville. Frey also tossed a one-hitter against 5A state semifinalist Central Mountain. Engel is a four-year starter who went 7-3 with a 1.63 ERA and also has been one of the area’s premier hitters during her high school career. Shortstop Dani Miller has 65 hits in her first two seasons and hit .421 with 11 extra-base hits and 27 runs last spring. Clark hit .391 and has 51 hits in her two years, while Jaymison Stellfox had an outstanding season hitting in the middle of the order. Last year’s District 4 Class AAA champion Midd-West, along with strong Athens and Mifflinburg teams have moved up to Class AAAA, so Jersey Shore faces a loaded field as it tries for a three-peat but has done a nice job surging down the stretch the past two years and also plays a demanding schedule which prepares it well.
4. Central Mountain (166): Central Mountain made history last season and captured its third straight District 6 Class AAA championship, while reaching the state semifinals for the first time, dropping a heart-breaker

against eventual champion Thomas Jefferson. All-time strikeout leader Addie McKeague, as well as a strong group of seniors must be replaced, but this is a program which, like Jersey Shore, often reloads well. Sophomore Camdyn Weaver excelled in her debut season and could help fill the void left by McKeague’s graduation after going 3-2 with a 3.30 ERA and throwing 40 1/3 innings. Ava Doyle hit .450 and Taylor Doyle .400. Cora Myers burst onto the scene and smashed nine home runs in her first season starting, finishing with a .394 average and 28 RBIs. Katelyn Bowman had a huge sophomore season two years ago and is a four-year starter. There are a lot of young players eager to show what they can do at the high school level, so don’t be surprised if Central Mountain keeps rolling along..
5. Williamsport (9-13): Williamsport surged after a 2-9 start last year, capturing a second District 2-4 Class 6A championship before giving Downington East a scare in the first round of states. Firstyear coach Scott Stugart enjoyed a strong run at South Williamsport and has a good group with which to work. That is especially true offensively after Williamsport scored a whopping 37 runs in two district playoff games, while collecting a remarkable 54 hits. Three-year starter Ashlyn robinson hit .431 with 12 extra-base hits and 19 RBIs, while senior Bailey Livermore hit .403 with 20 RBIs. Brenna Beck and Emma Vollman are three-year starting juniors and both hit over .300 last year. Beck also belted seven home runs and scored 25 times. Emily McAnelly hit .338 with 16 RBIs and Bella Reddy and Chelsey Harrison also hit well. Robinson and Livermore handled most of the pitching and Robinson went 6-2 with 50 strikeouts in 60 innings. Livermore averaged a strikeout per inning in her 40 innings.
BEST OF THE REST
(ARRANGED IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER)
Bald Eagle Area (20-5): Bald Eagle Area reached last year’s Final Four in the PIAA Class AA playoffs and fell to District 4 power South Williamsport in a good game, 3-0. Expect Bald Eagle Area to be motivated to get back and make another deep run in the state playoffs after going 20-5 in 2024. The Eagles have the ability to do just that too. Six of the team’s top eight hitters in terms of batting average return this year. The team only

graduated Ava Stere (.434) and Shea Housel (.268). Meanwhile, Bald Eagle Area brings back Kailey Eckert (.407), Sydney Thompson (.370), Addisyn Burns (.318), Alexa Baney (.310), Sierra Albright (.300) and Taylor Habovick (.297), meaning that opposing pitchers will have a tough time limiting BEA’s offense. Bellefonte (n/a): Bellefonte had success last year and reached the District 6 Class AAAA championship game. After a 21-1 rout over District 8’s Carrick, the Raiders came up just shy in a tough game to St. Mary’s, 2-1, in the championship game. That loss stung for Bellefonte’s returning players, and expect the team to be using that as motivation to get back and possibly
win a district title this spring.
Bucktail (16-5): The two-time defending District 4 Class A champions must compensate for the loss of some outstanding players, but also retain a strong foundation and could have some exciting newcomers make an impact. Bucktail features a strong offense and returns five players who hit .382 or higher. Junior Eva Sockman hit .545 with 36 RBIs and fellow junior Lola English .519 with 22 RBIs. Kendall Wagner is another three-year starter and hit .458 with 26 RBIs. Senior Matti Mason provides another powerful bat and hit .442 with 21 RBIs. The biggest question is who will replace four-year starting pitcher Makenna Wagner? Makenna Stone
the past two championships. Northeast Bradford defeated CV, 13-2 in its opener but Ashley Woodring struck out seven in doubled, while Ella Churchill and Zeraya Wilson each had two hits. All three are coming off strong seasons.
Hughesville (12-8): One of last year’s most improved teams, Hughesville reached the postseason for the first time in a non-open format since 2001, storming down the stretch after opening the season 2-6. The Spartans return most of their starters who now have a taste of success and the playoffs. Sophomores Maddie Smith, Addy Knight and Ashlynn Barlett all hit .444 or higher in their debut seasons with Smith hitting .556, slugging six home runs, driving in 26 runs and scoring 28 times. Knight hit .455 with 16 RBIs. Jayla Koser and Avery Puderbach are three-year starters who hit .370 and .328, respectively. Ella Breneisen provides experience in the pitching circle, going 8-4 and driving in 17 runs. Smith also pitches and fanned 20 batters in 17 innings.
Lewisburg (2-18): Lewisburg returns all but three players from a squad that was one of the district’s youngest a year ago. The Green Dragons will be trying to improve on a .217 batting average and have an experienced pitcher in Addy Shedleski who is a three-year starter in the circle.
Milton (4-16): Milton made a three-win improvement last season and started the year 3-3 before struggling down the stretch. The offense showed its explosiveness in a wild 24-23 early-season win at Central Columbia. The Black Panthers also played Jersey Shore tough in a 5-2 loss. Erin Hess and Rylie Anspach had some big games last year and help spark the team.
is a possible answer and showed promise last season, striking out 32 in 23 2/3 innings.
Canton (4-15): The Warriors showed their pop in a season-opening loss against Sayre, scoring 11 runs and collecting nine hits. Tara Gilbert homered and Jaylee Ward went 3 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs. Ward hit .425 last year and Nevaeh Vroman a team-high .457. Ward and Gilbert both pitched last season and Gilbert struck out seven against Sayre.
Cowanesque Valley (17-4): CV lost a lot of starters from last season but has built a strong program over the years and could remain a threat in the NTL-II after winning
Montgomery (13-8): One of the district’s most consistent winners, Montgomery has reached the District 4 Class A semifinals in six consecutive seasons and returns all but two starters from last season. The offense is especially strong with six players back who hit .340 or higher, including four who hit .400 or better. Junior Madisyn Miller was second among area players with 38 RBIs and hit .517, while sophomore Arianna Snyder flourished in her debut season, batting .514 with 24 RBIs. Amelia Shrimp hit .425, Addi Muhl .400 with 26 RBIs and Ava Hartman .364 with 17 RBIs. Addi Cross scored 31 runs and both Hartman

Montoursville hopes to build off last year’s 11-10 campaign
and Snyder pitched well. Hartman won 12 games and Snyder struck out 23 in 18 2/3 innings, including five in three innings of relief in the district semifinals.
Montoursville (11-10):
After reaching consecutive District 4 Class AAAA championships, Montoursville moves to 3A and hopes to build on its success there.
Pitchers Julie Friel and Avery Stahl both return after throwing well in their first seasons pitching full-time at the varsity level with Friel shining in the district semifinals against Shamokin. Avery Cozzi and Kayleigh Sheleman are two of the area’s top hitters, Cozzi batting .485 with five home runs and 25 RBIs and Sheleman .456 with seven home runs and 32 RBIs.
Shortstop Emily George ignited the offense from the lead-off spot, hitting .385 and Nevaeh Montoya flourished in the middle of the order.
Jordan Chamberlain and Lia Bozochovic had some key hits in close wins as well.
Muncy (21-3): This is definitely a new look Muncy team with dominant pitcher Nolah Moyer now at St. Bonaventure and all-time
runs leader Casey Fry having graduated. No current player threw any innings last year, so developing a pitcher or pitchers and backing them up with strong defense will be imperative. The Indians do feature one of the area’s top players in all-state catcher Taylor Shannon who enjoyed a fabulous season last year, hitting .557 with eight home runs, 33 RBIs and 34 hits. Leah Vest, Jailyn Baker and Rachel Paulhamus also started and were key to the team’s success, as Muncy reached a third straight District 4 Class AA final and state tournament.
North Penn-Liberty (19-1): Like Muncy, North Penn-Liberty looks a lot different. It also appears dangerous again and stormed out to a 3-0 start. A team which entered the season riding a 40-game regular season winning streak opened its year with an impressive 9-2 win against Wyalusing, before thumping Wellsboro, 9-3 and battering Hughesville, 18-0. Sophomore Elyna Booth threw a five-hitter with 14 strikeouts and Haley Litzelman went 2 for 2 with two doubles and two RBIs in the opener and Booth has 38 strikeouts in

RALPH WILSON/Sun-Gazette Correspondent Montoursville’s Avery Cozzi (26) crosses the plate after hitting a home run during a game last year against Warrior Run. The Warriors are coming off an 11-10 season while the Defenders were 9-11 in 2024.
15 innings pitched thus far. Sophomore Claire Dominick also had two hits, a double and four RBIs in that opener. Litzelman is a three-year starter who drove in 22 runs last year while compiling a 0.45 ERA and striking out 42 in 31 innings. Addie Smith is a four-year starter and hit .304 with 15 RBIs. A lot of starters graduated, but a team that captured the 2023 District 4 Class AAA championship already appears poised to remain a contender.
Sullivan County (11-9): Speaking of contenders, Sullivan County reached last year’s District 4 Class A
final and returns nearly every starter. The Griffins feature a deep offense and four players hit above .400. Senior catcher Kayla Fowler is the program’s all-time home run leader and hit .509 with 10 doubles and 32 RBIs. Mariah Halabuk hit .467 with three home runs and 23 Rbis, while Gabby Evans hit .435 with 19 RBIs. Miley Dickinson and Emilia Viveiros combined for 25 RBIs and Viveiros struck out 100 batters during her sophomore season.
Warrior Run (9-11): The Defenders just missed reaching the District 4 Class AAA playoffs but return some excellent players as well as both
their primary pitchers. Maura Woland and Lakesha Hauck had big sophomore seasons last spring and highlight the offense. Woland hit .452 and was a rock at shortstop, while Hauck dominated the season’s second half, producing at least two hits in each of her last 10 games and finishing at .424 with six home runs and 22 RBIs. Mya Evans and Millie Gelnett each had 10 RBIs and Ella Printzenhoff hit .280. Mackenzie Heyler won eight games in the circle, striking out 64 and Mackenzie Litchard provided quality depth.
Wellsboro (4-14): Wellsboro is a young team but has
one of the NTL’s top players in Paige Logsdon. The fouryear starter was fantastic last season, hitting .447 with seven home runs and 25 RBIs. Building depth around her will be important as will be improving a pitching staff which struggled last season. Logsdon, Mazie Johnson and Bailee Confer all threw at least 21 innings last season and Logsdon averaged nearly a strikeout per inning. Williamson (11-11): A team that rallied from a 1-7 start to reach districts and defeat Line Mountain in the opening round is a definite

Thomas also went 2 for 2 with a double and two RBIs after hitting .485 last season.

Millionaires reached last year’s district final
By CHRIS MASSE cmasse@sungazette.com
Something mighty rare occurred last year. No Sun-Gazette area team captured a district championship.
That speaks more to how deep and good this district is year after year, and it certainly was not from a lack of quality teams. South Williamsport, Warrior Run, Montoursville, Central Mountain and Williamsport all reached district finals and Montgomery and Hughesville both captured league championships.
Time will tell if what happened last season was a one-year blip on the radar or not. Either way, this area again is full of contenders eager to pursue postseason glory.
While no Sun-Gazette team won a district championship, two
captured titles from the Express area with both Bellefonte and Bald Eagle Area hoisting district gold.
DR. MASSE’S TOP FIVE (LAST YEAR’S RECORD IN PARENTHESES)
1. Williamsport (14-8):
This was a tough call but Williamsport’s vast pitching depth earns it the early-season honor. Although a team which reached its third straight District 2-4 Class 6A championship and sixth in seven seasons, graduated the majority of its offensive starters, it features quite a pitching arsenal. Wyatt Bair, Grant Vilello and Ryan Schur all had big seasons last spring, while Cole Deitrick and Trey Damschroder excelled in key moments, too. Bair threw a one-hit shutout in the district semifinals against Wyoming Valley West, closing the year 3-1 with a 2.03 ERA. Vilello came on strong late in the year, finishing 3-1 and scattering 11 hits in 26 2./3 innings, while striking out 33. Ryan Schur was dominant,
MARK NANCE/Sun-Gazette Correspondent Williamsport ‘s Deacon Brawn (27) scores behind Wyoming Valley West catcher on a single by Aaron Klosko (8) in the fourth inning last May. Williamsport reached the District 2-4 Class 6A championship game last year, but came up shy of winning gold.
often in relief, surrendering just seven hits in 25 1/3 innings and posting a 0.27 ERA. Deitrick threw well against Central Mountain and Damschroder shined at the Backyard Brawl. A big question will be whether standout third baseman Lucas Naughton can play after sustaining a football injury last fall. He hit .500 a year ago, while first baseman Kellen Jackson led the area with six home runs, hitting .375 and driving in 24 runs.
2. Montoursville (145): Montoursville not only returns a good group from a team which played in its sixth
straight district final, but also brings up an exciting crop of freshmen. The Warriors came within a timely hit of winning last year’s 4A championship, dropping a one-run heart-breaker to eventual state semifinalist Danville. This team also features a deep staff anchored by Logan Kirby. The right-hander has been dominant his first two seasons, especially in two playoff wins, and went 5-1 with two saves, a 1.55 ERA and 48 strikeouts in 40 2/3 innings. Lefties Brayden McCourt and Jimmy Mussina have pitched well in big games the past two seasons and Riley Bowes and Brody
Aldenderfer are among those who provide quality depth. Bowes enjoyed a breakout year in the lead-off spot, hitting .417, while junior catcher Jonah Heddings hit .383 and three-year starter Aldenderfer .362. Michael Reeder reached base five times in two playoff games, Noah Kirby showed promise as a freshman, as did Zack Neill, so quality depth is not limited to the pitching staff. That includes Logan Kirby who hit .480 with 14 RBIs after working his way into the lineup.
3. Montgomery (183): Excitement is high at Montgomery after it captured
a Mid-Penn championship and reached the District 4 Class AA semifinals. All but one player is back from that squad which strengthened its non-conference with games against Montoursville, Selinsgrove, Warrior Run, South Williamsport and Hughesville. Briar Persing, Parker Bennett and Parker Persing form a three-headed pitching monster and all had ERAs of 2.07 or lower last season. Briar Persing dominated as a freshman, going 9-1 with a save and a 2.02 ERA. The right-hander allowed just 33 hits in 56 1/3 innings and

struck out 121, becoming the area’s first pitcher since South’s Tripp Breen in 2019 to reach 100 strikeouts in a season. Bennett would be the ace on many staffs and Parker Persing also often mowed through opponents. Both Persings, Bennett and sophomore Trace Furman all hit .333 or higher. Cooper Roman and Lincoln Miller had strong seasons starting as freshmen as did Victor Ottman who heated up late in the season.
4. Warrior Run (14-9): Warrior Run has made a monster turnaround the last two seasons, going from one win to reaching the District 4 Class AAA semifinals and championship. Most of those players are back again and most are three-year starters. Stone Allison and Isaiah Betz are four-year starters and Allison hit .383 with three home runs and 19 RBIs last season. Griff Harrington put together a super sophomore season, hitting .415 with 15 extra-base hits and 22 RBIs, while posting a 2.28 ERA and allowing just 30 hits in 43 innings. Fellow juniors James Keifer, Cohen Zecman and Tyler Ulrich all hit .322 or higher and all produced at least 16 RBIs. The pitching runs deep with Landon Polcyn going 4-2 with a 2.88 ERA and 59 strikeouts in 34 innings last season. He threw a gem against Mount Carmel in the district final and Keifer and junior Gabe Engel also averaged more than a strikeout per inning. Most of these players also gained more big-game experience last summer, helping Warrior Run reach the final of the Senior League Mid-Atlantic Regional. Warrior Run opened its season in strong fashion as Keifer and Harrington combined on a five-inning no-hitter in a 14-0 win against Millville. Harrington and Betz homered, while Allison went 3 for 4 with two doubles and four RBIs and Polcyn was 3 for 3.

reign as District 6 Class 5A champions but the Wildcats still built on their winning tradition. Only four offensive starters are back, but the JV and feeder programs are strong in Mill Hall, so the cupboard is far from bare. Austin Frank could be the next in a long line of standout pitchers there, going 3-1 with two saves last season, while allowing just 11 hits and striking out 21 in 19 innings.
Watt Probst emerged as one of the area’s best behind the plate, throwing out nine runners, while hitting .340 with eight doubles and 24 RBIs. Malaky Moyd also hit well in his first season starting, batting .333.
BEST OF THE REST
Burns (.494), Kahale Burns (.484) and Kaden Burns (.412).Carson Nagle hit .388 with three hits and 42 RBIs.
5. Central Mountain (13-6): Eventual state champion Hollidaysburg ended Central Mountain’s five-year
Gage Laughner also threw well, going 2-1 and striking out 17 in 15 innings. Brady Lavelle and Bryce Brungard are other pitchers to watch. Isaiah Maldonado helped spark the offense last season, hitting .405 and Blake Walker was close behind at .393 with 13 RBIs. Catcher
(LAST YEAR’S RECORD IN PARENTHESES) Bald Eagle Area (25-2): Bald Eagle Area clearly would be among the Top 5 if it was eligible as a Sun-Gazette area team. The Eagles are trying to become the state’s first team to win three straight state championships, romping to a second straight title last year. BEA scored at least nine runs in four state playoff wins, totaling 41. Gone, though, are Gavin
Bellefonte (19-3): Another Lock Haven team which would be among the Top 5 if it fell in the Sun-Gazette coverage area, Bellefonte is pursuing its second Class AAA state championship in three seasons. The Red Raiders reached another district final last season and it returns a strong core eager to make another state tournament run.
unable to overcome a 10.90 ERA but could be a team to watch in Class A if that staff improves. They have a dynamic weapon in Keller Friese who dominated as a freshman, winning the area batting title with a .655 average, two home runs, 14 doubles and 26 RBIs. He also struck out 37 batters in 28 2/3 innings. Cael Dorman hit .406 and Ethan Kalafut .395 with 14 RBIs.
they are waiting on the return of standout Holden Ward following offseason surgery. Ward hit .435 with 35 runs a year ago and was 7-1 with a 2.80 ERA and 71 strikeouts. Zach Colton threw a gem against Sayre in a season-opening win, allowing just one earned run in six innings and striking out 10. Colton earned four saves last spring and compiled a 2.08 ERA. Ben Fitch hit .328 with 19 RBIs last season and scored the game-winning run against Sayre after going 3 for 3 with a double. Michael Beers had 18 RBIs and started strong as well, going 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Sophomore Bailey Gardner drove in a teambest 23 runs.
Cowanesque Valley (9-11): CV fell just short of reaching districts a year ago, dropping its last game but showed its promise in a convincing 6-1 season opening win against Coudersport. Loagan Stickler dominated on the mound, throwing 4 1/3 no-hit innings and striking out 12. He, Dave Hess and Levi Stahli also threw a lot last year, Stahli going 3-3 and Hess striking out 22 in 18 innings. Hess, a sophomore, went 3 for 3 against Coudersport and Stahli hit .381 last season. Stickler went 4 for 5 with a triple and four RBIs in CV’s impressive 12-4 win against Canton Saturday, helping the Indians improve to 2-0.
Bucktail (3-16): Back to Sun-Gazette area teams, Bucktail is hoping to take a step forward after flexing some offensive muscle last year, but struggling on the mound. The Bucks were
Canton (15-6): The two-time defending NTL-II champions were a hit away from defeating eventual Class AA state semifinalist Wyalusing in last year’s district quarterfinals, dropping a 4-3 heart-breaker. The Warriors return a good group from that squad, although
Hughesville (15-4): After repeating as HAC-III champions, Hughesville fields a much younger team this spring. It flexed its muscle, though, in Saturday’s season opener, scoring 15 runs over the final two innings in a 17-2 win at Wellsboro. The Spartans have won district and league titles the past two seasons and are hoping the younger players can grow up fast to continue the tradition. Sophomore pitcher Graden Dohl stormed out of the gates a year ago, finishing 4-1 with a save, a 2.92 ERA and 42 strikeouts in 38 1/3 innings. Trent Wetzel and Nate Bieber produced some clutch moments as well and

Shore reached districts last year for first time in 6 years
Bieber was 2-0 with a 0.40 ERA. Sophomore Connor Anstadt is another pitcher to watch. JD Lunger helps ignite the offense, hitting a team-high .476 with two home runs and 10 RBIs last year. He homered and drove in five runs at Wellsboro. Jed Abernatha hit .389 with 17 RBIs and Wetzel .357 with 12 RBIs. They both added two hits each Saturday.
Jersey Shore (10-11): Jersey Shore wasted no time building off last year’s turnaround when it reached districts for the first time since 2018. The Bulldogs scored 11 runs in the first two innings and defeated defending District 4 Class AAAA champion Danville, 14-10. It was an especially positive sign since the offense struggled at times last season. Hunter Enders, Carter Rhinehart and Zach Myers all delivered two hits and Carson Watkins and Collin Berguson both had hits with two RBIs. Landon Welshans hit .303 a year ago and Myers had a strong pitching season, stricking out 38 in 33 1/3 innings, while recording a 2.52 ERA. He picked up where he left off against Danville, striking out seven in 3 1/3 innings of strong relief to earn the win. Building depth behind Myers and Enders on the mound will be vital going forward.
Lewisburg (0-20): There is nowhere to go up for a team which played some strong squads tough last season. Junior Landen Wagner provides the offense a strong foundation to build upon after hitting .362 with seven doubles and 17 RBIs. The big question marks surround a pitching staff which generated a 9.76 ERA a year ago. Dakota Kiester, Max Pfirman and Cohen Hoover all threw at least 14 2/3 innings, so that experience should help Lewisburg take a step forward. Hoover and Xavier Carter combined on a five-inning no-hitter in a 16-5 season opening win against East Juniata with Keister and freshman Landynn Bieber each producing two hits.
(From Page 12) (See
Loyalsock (9-11): A
team decimated by injuries still nearly reached districts last season, rallying to give itself a shot in the last game of the season. Senior Deryk Kulp helped the team overcome those injuries and hit .396 while going 5-4 with 40 strikeouts in 34 1/3 innings. Dolan Harman hit .371 and John Kiehl drove in 12 runs, both in their first extensive varsity action. Junior Kayden Keefer could provide a spark if he can stay healthy. The versatile threat returned for the final two games last year and went 4 for 8. The Lancers receive a boost with Chase Wright, a three-year starter at St. John Neumannn, playing. Wright has played well at multiple positions and adds critical depth to a staff that returns
just one other player with varsity innings in Nolan Rall. The Lancers also should benefit from Jadyn Wagner and Drake Dupont returning from injuries.
Milton (11-11): What a run Milton made last spring, going from 3-8 to being within six outs of reaching the District 4 Class AAAA championship. Milton caught fire down the stretch, defeated Jersey Shore in districts and gave state semifinalist Danville a battle in the semifinals. The challenge now is building off that success despite losing most of the starters, including the bulk of the pitching staff. Monty Fisher is a three-year starter in center field and should give the offense a lift as should Landon Tillson after
hitting .279 last year. Look for Brayden Gower, Lou Williams and Chase Knarr to help try and negate the pitching losses as Milton tries to improve its win total for a third straight year.
Muncy (13-7): This may be the youngest team Muncy has fielded in the 2000s with nine of the 15 players on the roster being freshmen and sophomores. The Indians are replacing most of their offensive starters and pitching staff and only four players who had at least 30 at-bats are back. Still, Muncy does have some nice building blocks in Nick Delany and Tanner Baker. Delany hit .393 and added 21 RBIs in a breakthrough season a year ago, while Baker is a fouryear starter who drove in 18
fanned 47 in 52 1/3 innings with a 2.54 ERA. Davis is a four-year starter who hit .391 and Easton Cleveland-Pequignot flourished down the stretch, finishing at .321. Andy Hermansen hit a grand slam against Wyalusing, Shaw drove in two runs and Riley Oakes and Jason Harer also hit well. Liam Shault opened the season with two hits against Wyalusing.
St. John Neumann (711): Neumann stayed in the playoff hunt until late in the season and has the potential to be a title contender in District 4 Class A. Angelo Birch and Andrew Walter both threw well last season, Birch striking out 31 in 33 innings and Walter totaling a 3.11 ERA. Walter also hit .352 with 16 Rbis and Birch drove in 15 runs. Gino Birch hit .296 and provides pitching depth while freshmen Nolan Fagnano, Maverick Dunkleberger and Clark Bower all showed exciting promise starting as freshmen. Neumann scored at least six runs in nine of its 18 games, so it has the ingredients to be dangerous if it can build some pitching depth. Angelo Birch struck out nine in five impressive innings in a season-opening 14-6 win against East Juniata. Gino Birch was 2 for 3 with three runs and Lajon Dizard 1 for 2 with four RBIs.
runs and went 5-0 on the mound. Kase Snyder hit .300 and Liam Adams drove in 10 runs. Adams, Snyder and Delany all could see pitching time as well.
North Penn-Mansfield (13-8): A team which made a five-win improvement last season retains a strong core of starters and opened its season in impressive fashion, routing two-time defending District 4 Class AA champion Wyalusing, 15-4. It kept raking two days later, defeating rival Wellsboro, 12-2. Alex Davis and Cooper Shaw form a nice pitching tandem and Davis earned the win in the opener, striking out four in two innings. He struck out 48 in 42 1/3 innings last season, producing a 2.65 ERA and Shaw
South Williamsport (158): Although it graduated five starters and most of its pitchers, South still has the look of a team which could continue the program’s winning ways. The team has just six seniors and juniors, meaning both the present and future could be bright, depending on how many of those young players develop throughout the season. Keep an eye on freshman left-hander Cole Gerber who has impressed in the preseason. He, sophomore Levi Butler, senior Tadd Lusk and freshman Cade Lusk are some of the players South will call on to fill the voids on the staff. Lusk is a three-year starter who hit .373 last spring. Rem Minier and Trace Wertz also have started the past two years and produced in some

big games. Minier scored 16 times and Wertz drove in 13 for a team which made its third straight District 4 Class AA final and state tournament appearance.
Sullivan County (3-13): Sullivan returns all but two players from last year and could feature a strong offense. Three-year starter Tucker Blasi is one of the MidPenn’s best players and hit .468 with nine extra-base hits last spring. Keegan Bagley hit .358 with 13 RBIs and Blaze Fitzgerald drove in 10 runs. Blasi struck out 24 in 18 2/3 innings, while Fitzgerald and Cole Barto also earned valuable pitching experience.
Wellsboro (8-12): Wellsboro returns eight starters from last season and is hoping to rebound following an 0-3 start last week. Junior Marek Mascho is a three-year starter who hit .403 with two hits and seven doubles last season. Mascho homered and doubled Saturday against Hughesville. He also went 2-3 with a 3.73 ERA in 41 innings pitched. Gabe Sprouse hit .289 with 19 RBIs. A more experienced group now, Wellsboro should be able to improve its .255 average from last season. Replacing ace Caden Smith on the mound is a top priority. Sophomore Max Mascho could be one of those who helps does that after striking out 12 in 13 innings a year ago.

OUTLOOK: The Bald Eagle
Area girls track and field team heads into the 2025 season with plenty of new faces mixed in with a vast amount of experience and proven talent, a combination head coach Shawn Thompson believes could lead it to an exciting season. Ten returning district qualifiers lead the charge, half of which are seniors.
“We are finally at a point where we have seniors in key events, and they understand what it takes to be successful. We have 14 seniors who are going to provide the leadership we need to grow,” said Thompson, referring to both the girls and boys. “We also have a lot of new faces this season, and I am excited to watch all of them grow and develop.”
Olivia Taylor thrives in multiple categories, coming off a districts stint that saw her post top five finishes in the 400 and javelin. Grace Crestani (shot put) and Leah Bryan (long jump) also took home medals, and three members of its medal-earning 1,600 and 3,200 relay squads return looking to build off that prior success.
With new faces checkering its lineup, the hope is that they can adapt quickly while those seasoned veterans strive to reach new heights.
“The biggest challenges will be bringing along the younger athletes and teaching them how to practice and prepare each day,” said Thompson. “I believe once we get those kids in the right direction, our team as a whole will be really good.”
HUGHESVILLE
Coach: Fredrick Glenwright
Returning state qualifiers: Katelyn Temple (400 relay, 1,600 relay); Kylie Temple (300 hurdles, 400 relay, 1,600 relay); Sarah Pidcoe (1,600 relay, 3,200 relay); Vivian Draper, Elizabeth Wolfe (3,200 relay).
TIM WEIGHT/For The Express
Bald Eagle Area runners compete in a relay during last year’s District 6 Class AA championships. The Eagles return a number of district qualifiers from last spring.
there’s plenty of reason to expect Lewisburg to be back competing at the top of the mountain come May, now back in Class AA after two seasons in AAA. The departures of 2024 district champ Jenna Binney and storied jumper Layla Lachhab are tough blows, but the return of two-time state qualifiers Baylee Espinosa (distance), Teagan Osunde (javelin) and Caroline Blakeslee (sprints) give the team heavy hitters across the board.
“Our team is composed of excellent leaders and hard-working, focused athletes,” said head coach Michael Espinosa on the team. Many of our top point scorers return, but we will have some holes to fill. There are still many athletes who are working to find their place and unlock their talents.”
Espinosa and Osunde head into their junior seasons with multiple district titles to their name, with Osunde finishing 2024 as the third best javelin thrower in the state at Class AAA. They headline a group of returners that acquired at least one district medal in all but three events (long jump, triple jump, shot put) last season, a group that harbors aspirations of going 18 for 18 in 2025.
The goal is to be represented in all events at the district meet, (and we also) have a goal of qualifying as many athletes for states as possible. The main focus this season is to be healthy and ready for a postseason run at districts and states,” said Espinosa.
Roster Seniors – Sadia Ammar-Khodja, Izzy Biddle, Aubrey Hamm, Reese Kirk, Lexi Kurzawa, Sarah Pidcoe, Maya Poust, Deja Roark, Jada Roark, Ava Snyder, Ava Swisher, Abbi Tripoli. Juniors – Taylor Bunce, Carly Converse, Vivian Draper, Grace Fortin, Laura Ochs, Calli Riegner, Jaeden Snyder, Kylie Temple, Sadie Turnbow, Elizabeth Wolfe, Delilah Worthington. Sophomores – Micayla Applegate, Sierra DeWire, Anna Easton, Hannah Laidacker, Malyah Maneval, Payton Phillips, Sophia Poust, Hailey Stevens, Saka Talia, Katelyn Temple. Freshmen – Bella Remsnyder.
OUTLOOK: In the final event of the 2024 season, Hughesville’s 1,600 relay team took home a state medal to close things on a high note. Three members of that squad return for 2025, two of which have at least two seasons to build on strong starts to their high school careers.
junior season a two-time state medalist in the 300 hurdle, also earning the program record in the 200 as a sophomore. And Katelyn Temple made serious strides as a freshman, with the pair of sisters each earning a pair of District 4 medals while helping two relay teams (400, 1,600) qualify for states.
Though Katelyn and relay mate Sarah Pidcoe are each recovering from surgeries in the fall, both have made sound recoveries and are expected to make an impact this season.
“Kat has been diligent in her rehab work with therapists and with our trainer, Brian Duke, and has made excellent progress thus far. She and (Pidcoe) often worked together doing rehab drills at school with Brian and pushed each other to get better,” said head coach Fredrick Glenwright on the pair.
They headline a talented list of returners, as the team looks to build on a season that saw it take third at districts and send all
three relays to states. Departures will force them to figure things out, particularly the loss of two-time state qualifier Hailey Myers in jumps, but they head into the season in a great spot.
“As a group, if they train properly and stay healthy, they have the opportunity to be among the better teams in District 4 Class AA,” said Glenwright.

Lancers bring back 12 with district experience

headlined by returning district medalist Abby Pietraski – who placed fourth in the triple jump – and aspiring sprinter Alaina Dadzie.
Other key returners include jumpers Jenine Ghayyada (high jump, 11th at districts), Alyson Hughes and Brianna Helmrich, throwers Gianna Steele and Katie Clapper, and the team’s entire 3,200 relay team (Caroline Crawford, Mackenzie Miller, Natalie Pearson and Adara Whitehead) who took 13th at districts last season.
“The 2025 Loyalsock track and field season is shaping up to be an exciting one, with both the boys and girls teams poised for strong performances,” said boys track and field coach Matt Hill on both squads. “Backed by a dynamic mix of seasoned senior leaders and promising underclassmen, the Lancers are eager to build on last year’s success and make a statement in the postseason.”
OUTLOOK: While the departure of multi-event phenom Mackenzie Lopez is difficult to deal with, the Milton girls track and field team heads into the 2025 season with plenty of promising returners that can produce excitement, along with a vast, 18-member freshman class of potential standouts.
Three members of its state-qualifying 400 relay team (Emily Beaver, Adalynne Haas, Camron Roush) return looking

to build on last year’s District 4 bronze and trip to Shippensburg. And in the field, the Black Panthers already check a lot of boxes.
In jumps, Elizabeth Schrock has proven capable in three separate events and is coming off a district bronze in the triple jump. Jayanah Jones added two district medals in both the triple and long jump, taking sixth and eighth respectively. Senior Amelia Gainer gives Milton assurance at javelin following the graduation of its district champion.
As a whole, its returners qualified for districts in 13 field events. Their efforts at Williamsport last season culminated in a fifth place showing for the team, which they’ll look to improve upon come May.
MONTGOMERY
Coach Joanna Kreisher
Returning state qualifiers: none. Returning district qualifiers: Zoe Furman (triple jump, 400 relay); Mikaila Ganoe (high jump, pole vault); McKenna Hakes (400 relay, 1,600 relay); Ella Nagel (1,600, 3,200); Selah Persing (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles); Isabella Short (shot put).
OUTLOOK: Though overcoming key departures will also be a theme for Montgomery (combined with Muncy) heading into the 2025 season, with standout hurdler Emilie Nagel and multi-event district qualifier Rubi Solano having graduated, another theme overshadows it: inexperienced potential.
As freshmen, Selah Persing (hurdles) and Mikaila Ganoe (jumps) each qualified for districts in multiple events, with Persing earning a medal in her first crack at the event with a seventh place showing in the 300 hurdles, one which featured a PR of 17.55. Juniors Ella Nagel (distance) and Zoe Furman also harbor districts experience, along with sophomore McKenna Hakes.
MONTOURSVILLE
Coach: Sean Walker
Returning state qualifiers: Kendall Simms (pole vault).
OUTLOOK: Despite parting ways with a strong group of seniors, headlined by two-time state qualifier Emma Cline (hurdles) and 2024 district champ Anna Baylor (throws), Montoursville heads into 2025 with plenty to build on, repping a solid amount of postseason experience. Of its nine returning district qualifiers, five qualified in multiple events last season, representing the
OUTLOOK: A few key departures put the South Williamsport girls track and field team in a tough spot heading into the 2025 season, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have athletes that warrant notice.
Thrower Alayna Hulslander made strides through her first season with the team, falling two spots short of a District 4 medal in discus. And Senior Olivia Loudenslager, junior Addisyn Morrison and sophomore Kendall Smith fill a developing distance room, each qualifying for districts last season.
It’ll be a challenge to replace Lock Haven freshman Lillian Bradley in sprints and Lucy Binkley in the high jump, a pair which combined for all three of the team’s district medals from last season. But continued progress could pay dividends for the Mounties down the stretch.
Warriors well at Williamsport. Senior Kendall Simms looks to make it three straight appearances in Shippensburg as District 4’s most decorated returning pole vaulter, continuing to reach new heights in the event alongside fellow senior Marissa Mahonski, who medaled at PHACs last season. Ellie Maeulen bolsters a standout-heavy field team, having earned district bronze in back-to-back appearances at districts. And all four members of the team’s 1,600 relay team are set to return, a quartet that placed fourth in districts.
OUTLOOK: Ten months removed from its second-place finish and 3,200 relay title at the PIAA Track and Field Championships, Warrior Run heads into the 2025 season with much of the core responsible still intact. It’ll be without record-breaking pole vaulter Aurora Cieslukowski, who’s furthering her track and field at Navy. But returning state medalists Raygan Lust (bronze, 400) and Claire Dufrene (fifth, 1,600) can be expected to lead its charge towards more success.
Coupled with their individual success, Lust and Dufrene played crucial roles in the team earning two additional state medals and one title in relays (3,200, 1,600 – fifth). Then-freshman Natalie Hall was also a contributor in both events and Callie Ulmer makes four returners for their 1,600 squad, both of which also qualified for individual events as underclassmen.
“Experience always helps when you are starting a new season,” said coach Scott (See CM GIRLS, 22)

CM girls have plenty of talent on their roster
(From Page 20)
Hoffman, entering his 27th season coaching the team. “All of these kids that are back have high expectations this season. They are a confident group that seems to like challenges and are competitors.”
All in all, early success brings heightened expectations, but this seasoned group of Defenders appears up to the task.
“Last season was special for all the kids,” said Hoffman. “It is a long season at times, but we have had a great start. The kids are working hard and are motivated in the process of getting better. We had success last year but that is just experience and this is a new year with new challenges.”
OUTLOOK: At last year’s state meet, Wellsboro’s Piper Hoprich found herself at the top of the podium on multiple occasions, earning bronze in the 100 dash and fourth in the 200 last year. Adding to the impressiveness there was the fact that she was a freshman.
Now a sophomore, the twotime District 4 champion stands at the fore front of a team that’s been no stranger to the grand stage through the years. Senior Annika Gehman has qualified for states multiple times in the triple jump and Lauren Kosek (3,200) made it two Wellsboro freshman to experience Shippensburg in 2024.
“Piper and Lauren have been continuing their off-season training as they have been competing in indoor meets. They have both improved on their times,” said head coach Elizabeth Hoover. “Annie is a machine. If she can stay injury free, I have high hopes for a state return in triple jump.”

Central Mountain standout Lily Hendricks, a state medalist and outstanding jumper, graduated and will leave a hole to fill in the Wildcats’ lineup.
We anticipate using (Althea) in multiple events this year and seeing her return to the state championship meet this year as well,” said head coach Seth Miller on the pair.
Madison Miller narrowly missed out on making it three qualifying underclassmen for the Red Raiders, notching three top four finishes in throws at districts. Madyson Miller (400) — not to be confused with Madison — Natalie Jolley (3,200), Anna Tyson (high jump), Emma Harter (discus) and Jayla Nau (pole vault) also return having earned a podium spot at last year’s District 6 Class AAA Championships.
This young team has already accomplished a lot. With plenty of room left to grow, it’s certainly one to keep an eye on through the coming years.
CENTRAL MOUNTAIN
Coach: Ellie Sikorskas
Returning state qualifiers none.
Returning district qualifiers: Jaslyn Anderson (shot put, discus); Ellen Banfill (javelin); Emily Brinker (200, pole vault); Alaina Carnahan (400); Calienna Cardinal (800, 1,600); Harper Conklin (100); Sarah Hall (100, 100 hurdles); Grace Keohane (800, 1,600); Sarah Lavallee (400, 3,200); Gracelyn Stacey (triple jump, long jump); Alivia Ulrich (200); Vivian Wilt (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles); Jocelyn Wiseman (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles); Emma Wolfe (1,600, 3,200).
Roster: Seniors – Jaslyn Anderson, Camryn Bair, Ellen Banfill, Emily Brinker, Macy Plowman, Adrian Samaniego. Juniors – Calienna Cardinal, Morgan Davis, Lillian Downing, Audra Eaton, Sarah Hall, Sophia Hoy, Grace Keohane, Sarah Lavallee, Kennedy Metzger, Alivia Ulrich, Vivian Wilt, Jocelyn Wiseman. Sophomores – Alaina Carnahan, Harper Conklin, Olivia Evans, Shannon Hanna, Erin Thompson, Emma Wolfe. Freshmen – Teresa Akeley, Summer Biggans, Alexandra Castillo, Harper Coleman, Abbi Eaton, Macia Owens.
“My roster is the largest I have had in my 29 years of coaching track and field. By adding a junior high team a few years ago, it has provided me with more freshman talent,” said Hoover. “Weather is always an issue up north as far as being able to get on the track for practice. However, if we can stay healthy, we will be a team to watch.”
WILLIAMSON
Coach Aaron Wooster
Returning state qualifiers: none. Returning district qualifiers: Madalynn Bailey (800, long jump, 3,200 relay, 400 relay); Jade Colwell (100, 200, 400 relay); Anna Lee (long jump, 400 relay); Sayde Loucks (shot put); Olivia Meisner (shot put); Torrina Stratton (800, 3,200 relay); Raegan VanGorden (800, 3,200 relay); Aubrey Wells (100 hurdles).
Roster: Seniors – Jade Colwell, Darby Crance, Olivia Meisner, Delaney Owen, Kristen Pratt, Kylee Stone, Torrina Stratton, Emma Wilber. Juniors – Madalynn Bailey, Markenna Burdick, Alexandra Hastings, Anna Lee, Alyvia
Coupled with a fair share of returning district qualifiers and colossal 18-man freshman class, the Hornets should be an intriguing team to watch. Their middle-distance group is young but growing and their biggest concern is their throws squad, which saw six graduate.
OUTLOOK: Williamson (combined with Cowanesque Valley) flexed its strengths at last year’s District 4 Class AA Track and Field Championships, seeing three Warriors medal individually and five place in the top ten of their respective events. Those three medalists — Jade Colwell (sprints), Madalynn Bailey (long jump) and Olivia Meisner (shot put) — are all back, along with three members of its medal-earning 400 relay team.
We have several athletes who were successful at the district meet last year and at indoor meets this past season. We’re hoping for continued success in that way,” said head coach Aaron Wooster on the team.
“We are also looking to get Jade Colwell and Madalynn Bailey to the state meet this year.” Colwell and Bailey qualified
in multiple events, with Bailey falling two spots short of earning a second medal in the 800. They’ll look to lead a large cast of new faces to prominence.
“We currently have a large number of new athletes who we are attempting to develop into contributing team members,” said Wooster. “We are just really excited for the competition part of the season to start.”
GIRLS CLASS AAA
BELLEFONTE
Coach: Seth Miller
Returning state qualifiers: Althea Helms (400); Victoria Schellenberg (pole vault).
Returning district qualifiers: Emma Burger (3,200); Aalyn Cernuska (300 hurdles); Annie Cernuska (1,600, 800); Emma Harter (shot put, discus); Althea Helms (400, triple jump, long jump, 1,600 relay); Emma Holsinger (400, high jump); Natalie Jolley (1,600, 3,200); Madison Miller (shot put, discus, javelin); Madyson Miller (400, triple jump); Jayla Nau (200, pole vault, 400 relay, 1,600 relay); Violet Peffer (pole vault); Victoria Schellenberg (pole vault); Ruthann Smoyer (300 hurdles); Anna Tyson (800, high jump); Hailey Vinnedge (discus). Roster Seniors – Annie Cernuska, Alexis Fravel, Isobell Herr, Paige Jodon, Lynzie Simpson, Ruthann Smoyer, Evelyn St. Amant, Lauren Warefield. Juniors – Taryn Chaplain, Addison Fry, Nina Hess, Emma Holsinger, Natalie Jolley, Madison Miller, Madyson Miller,
Victoria Schellenberg, Maura Sharer, Anna Tyson, Valentina Zaramella. Sophomores –Grace Angle, Emma Burger, Aalyn Cernuska, Lily Clinger-Keiser, Emma Harter, Althea Helms, Autumn Naspinski, Jayla Nau, Violet Peffer, Hailey Vinnedge. Freshmen – Brooklyn Garman, Aubrey Mason.
OUTLOOK: While every team deals with its fair share of tough departures from season to season, Bellefonte approaches its 2025 campaign relatively unscathed in that regard. Its 15 returning district qualifiers produced a combined 12 medals at last year’s event, two of which notched titles as underclassmen to make it to states.
Althea Helms thrived as a freshman, earning a District 6 title in the 400 while also medaling in the long (bronze) and triple jump (eighth). Then-sophomore Victoria Schellenberg joined her in Shippensburg, claiming district gold in the pole vault for the second time.
“(Victoria) has really worked on her core strength by wrestling this year and I think she will reach new heights this year and, hopefully, can battle for a state medal at the end of the season.
OUTLOOK: Though the departure of record-breaking phenom Lily Hendricks is a setback for the Central Mountain girls track and field team, plenty of promising Wildcats return to the track looking to build on postseason success from last season.
Juniors Grace Keohane, Jocelyn Wiseman and Vivian Wilt are coming off multi-medal performances at districts, with Keohane fore fronting a growing distance room and Wiseman and Wilt forming a potent one-two punch in both hurdle events — one-two-three including fellow junior Sarah Hall, who added a medal in the 100 hurdles. Apart from that quartet, newcomers are expected to make an impact as well.
“There are many newcomers that are showing excellent potential,” said head coach Ellie Sikorskas on the team. “I think everyone that is new has their own challenges to face and brings friendly competition within

the team as well. Both new and returning athletes will have to fight to be the top in order to participate in invitations, PHAC, and districts.”
With 14 district qualifiers returning, six of which earned a combined nine medals, more postseason success is on the horizon for Central Mountain. The question is, who will represent them at states with Hendricks having graduated?
JERSEY SHORE
Coach: Monica Richards Returning state qualifiers: Olivia Spotts (discus).
OUTLOOK: Jersey Shore’s biggest strength heading into 2025 comes in the throws department, a group which produced plenty of district hardware in 2024.
Though Bailee Stroup graduated after earning district bronze in shot put last season, Olivia Spotts returns for her senior campaign fresh off a District 4 title and states appearance in discus, also earning district bronze in javelin. Fellow district medalists Alison Bilbay and Nina Steppe round out one of the most stacked throwing rooms in District 4 Class AAA and outside of throws, Anna Sick (100, 200, 400) and Josie Gerst (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles) combined for five individual district medals alongside their three.
Much of the team displayed tremendous progress through last season. Its nine returning district qualifiers combined for ten medals, foreshadowing more potential hardware to come for the growing squad. And with newcomers in Aaralynn Kimble (sprints, hurdles, high jump), Elliana Herr (sprints, long jump) and Bella Hensler (throws) expected to make an immediate impact, there’s plenty to be excited about heading into the season.
“We’re looking forward to seeing this group of girls excel as a team and hope to see the girls improve their PRs and
Williamsport’s Isabelle Sanders is a returning state qualifier in the 1,600 and is one of three returning state qualifiers for the Millionaires in addition to sister Madeline (3,200) and Isabelle Morrow (high jump).
strengthen their skill in their individual events,” said Richards. “By encouraging and supporting each other, I believe we can achieve great things this season.”
OUTLOOK: Coming off a historic season that saw them take home their first district title since 1997, the Millionaires head into 2025 with a fair share of key departures to overcome. Fortunately, the foundation was already put in place last season, with multiple underclassmen standing out alongside the team’s storied 2024 class.
Aubrey Phillips-Cobb is expected to fill the shoes of recording-breaking hurdler Anyae Grissom well, attributing bronze medals in both hurdle events at districts alongside Grissom’s sweep. Isabelle and Madeline Sanders have put Williamsport’s
distance room on the map alongside Clara Wade and Johanna Pelly, and Isabelle Morrow was a standout in three separate jumps, qualifying for states in the high jump.
Outside of Morrow, who’s a junior, that entire group consists of sophomores. And while a step back may be anticipated considering the impact of the team’s 2024 class, it won’t be large, and the future of this program is extraordinarily bright.
BOYS CLASS AA BALD EAGLE AREA
Coach: Shawn Thompson
Returning state qualifiers: Kaiden Gates (high jump).
“We are extremely excited to see what this season will bring and to watch the athletes grow and achieve individual goals on a daily and weekly basis. If we can achieve this, I believe we can have one of the best teams we have had in some time.”
HUGHESVILLE
Coach: Griffin Molino
Returning state qualifiers: Shea McCusker (1,600, 3,200 relay); Tyce Shaner (1,600, 3,200 relay); Wyatt Gavitt, Brady Morgan (3,200 relay).
Roster: Seniors – Russell DeWire, Jarrett Easton, Wyatt Gavitt, Haydn Maneval, Shea McCusker, Jonah McGinley, Ty Middlesworth, Brady Morgan, Keagan Smith, James Stephens, Luke Stutzman, Owen Wettlaufer. Juniors – Jakob Charles, Kaviko Faulkner, Sam Haddon, Tristan Kurzawa, Ethan Leslie-Leinbach, Tyce Shaner, Carter Sherwood, Landon Stetts, Spencer Stine, Hunter Whipple. Sophomore – Maliki Emmil, Royce Gardner, Carter Holt, Corbin Kirk, Wyatt Laubacher, Gavin Moyer, Triston Richmond, Alphonzo Smith. Freshmen – Malachi Flowers, Michael Fuller, Carter Gormont, Carter Haines, Joseph Laubacher, Bradley Mackenzie, James Smith, Kellan Smith, Patrick Stine, Cameron Styron, Brendan Wolfgang, Colton Woolever.
Gideon Ferree, Harrison Harter, Maksim Kronin, Carnell Noone, Tristen Rice, Jacob Richardson, Cole Schindler, Maksim Shapich, Beau Taylor, Alec Wagner, Blake Wagner. Sophomores – Steven Flick, Ian Kontier, Paxton Kressler, Nicholas Lucas, Talon Tice. Freshmen – Mason Fisher, Owen Maye, Michael Scyzmanski, Steven Taylor, Kyle Uberti.
OUTLOOK: Coming off his second straight trip to Shippensburg, high jumper Kaiden Gates heads into his senior season looking to continue reaching new heights.
He headlines a long list of returning district qualifiers for the Bald Eagle Area track and field program, a group which features 13 representatives. That group includes another returning medalist in junior Beau Taylor, who took fourth in the 300-meter hurdles, and Owen Dechow, who took ninth in the 800-meter run while fore fronting the team’s medal-winning 3,200 relay.
“Our expectations are to come to practice each day with an open mind and will to get better. We had 32 athletes qualify for the district meet last year and we want to continue that momentum into this season and build off of that,” said coach Shawn Thompson when
OUTLOOK: Of the roster that helped Hughesville take seventh amidst a stacked District 4 last season, two pole vaulters are all that separate it from a full run back. With that reality comes heightened expectations, as its storied senior class and proven juniors and sophomores could lead it to its best season in quite a while.
“Our expectations for this season are definitely higher than in seasons past,” said coach Griffin Molino. “Not only is this the largest boys team that we’ve had since COVID, but it’s also the most talented.”
Much like the past few seasons, distance remains the team’s biggest strength. Shea McCusker and Tyce Shaner each return having qualified for states in the 1,600 last season, key parts of a PIAA-qualifying 3,200-relay team that returns all four components.
But the team is also strong in other spots. Spencer Stine continues to grow as a sprinter and Jarrett Easton headlines a growing group of jumpers, the latter which took home three medals at districts last season. Coupled with a large, promising freshman class, this could

certainly be an exciting year for the Spartans.
“Different from years past, our talent seems to be spread out evenly among all of the event groups, which is super encouraging,” said Molino. “As we are still fighting for our first ever PHAC III dual title, we are hoping that this could be the year. But we know it won’t be easy.”
LEWISBURG
Coach: Ron Hess
Returning state qualifiers: Jacob Gose (shot put); Jonathan Hess (1,600, 3,200, 3,200 relay); Eli Kalberer, Justin Nolt (3,200 relay).
Returning district qualifiers: Kai Ambrose (400, 1,600 relay); Gabriel Ayers (800); Marino Cardello (400 relay); Nick Coleman (100, 400 relay); Jacob Gose (discus, shot put); Jonathan Hess (800, 1,600, 3,200, 3,200 relay); Michael Hernandez (pole vault); Eli Kalberer (400, 3,200 relay); Tyler Kitchens (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles); Justin Nolt (800, 1,600, 3,200, 3,200 relay); Ahmaad Robinson (400 relay); Brady Ryder (3,200); Haneef Shavers (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles); Jacob Weis (100, 200, 400, 1,600 relay); Grayson Wynings (high jump, long jump, triple jump, 400 relay); Ezra Zook (pole vault, triple jump, long jump).
Roster: Seniors – Kai Ambrose, Marino Cardello, Kristian Edwards-Richardson, Jacob Gose, Michael Hernandez, Jonathan Hess, Tyler Kitchens, Luca Kuhn, Mason Lytle, Jake O’Hara, Ahmaad Robinson, Brady Ryder, Haneef Shavers, Grayson Wynings, Ezra Zook. Juniors – Grayson Barner, Andrew Brown, Ian Cavanagh, Andre Clayton, Nicholas Coleman, Roberto Gonzales, Jack Johnson, Justin Nolt, Paul Tranquillo, Jacob Weis. Sophomores – Gabriel Ayers, Evan Berger, Aiden Berry, Keegan Crosby, Brian Davis, Arthur Riley Gulden-Luthi, Hayden Heid, Marco Holmes, Elijah Hosterman, Andrew Klinger, Harrison Mirshahi, Anthony Morgan, Matthew Newcomer. Freshmen – Colin Beadle, Cole Bravman, James Byrum, Daedrian Campbell, Daniel DeSantis, Peter Dreisbach, Connor Ellis, Riley Forbes, Blake Gulden-Luthi, Darion Jackson, Eli Kalberer, Jack Kohl, Carter Lutze, Addison Merritt, Drake Osunde, Zachery Rutherford, Hugh Ikeda Shields, Gunner Shoeman, Jack Siegel, Milo Tavares, Luke Vadakara, Dylan Vogel, Maxwell Wheeler, Jude Wilkinson.
OUTLOOK: Already a District 4 power in Class AAA, Lewisburg enters its return to Class AA as an immediate district title contender, with multiple factors surrounding its roster fueling that claim. It’s most accolade-filled class in some time is set for its senior season, featuring multiple former and defending district champs, and newcomers are expected to help the Green Dragons score.
Jonathan Hess enters his senior season with five individual district titles to his name, sweeping the distance events at last year’s event while anchoring another gold in the 3,200 relay. Haneef Shavers (hurdles) looks to add to his 2023 title and Jacob Gose (throws) will push to return to Shippensburg after qualifying last year.
“Jacob Gose, Eli Kalberer and Justin Nolt also experienced states and have been making considerable strides,” said boys coach Ron Hess. “I am expecting big things from Jonathan,
Steven Lingg, left, takes the hand off from Connor Kelleher of Loyalsock during a dual against Hughesville last year. The Lancers will be without both runners this season.
Haneef, Jacob, and Justin as well as Jake Weis in sprints, Grayson Wynings in jumps, Tyler Kitchens in hurdles and Michael Hernandez and Ezra Zook in the vault.”
Drake Osunde headlines an expansive freshman class for the team, the brother of Teagan Osunde, who just took third at states in the javelin. Those freshmen should fill out the few holes this team has, as it prepares for what should be an exciting season.
“I am very excited to see what this group of boys can do,” said Hess. “I think we have a strong chance to contend for a district title and also score a decent amount of points at states.”
LOYALSOCK
Coach Matt Hill
Returning state qualifiers: Danny Dowell, Anthony Lewis (400 relay).
Returning district qualifiers: Danny Dowell (400 relay); Gavin Grieco (800, 3,200 relay); Jeremiah Johnson (discus, shot put); Anthony Lewis (100, 200, 400 relay); Ryan Lingg (400, 3,200 relay); Hudson Ott (200). Roster: Seniors – Gavin Grieco, Anthony Lewis, Isaiah West. Juniors – Alex Bolt, Jalil Coates, Qua’zhir Day, Danny Dowell, Jeremiah Johnson, Taje King, Josh Meacham, Hudson Ott, Nolan Ott, Cashlin Rogers, Carter Runner, Nahmir Thomas, Ethan Wetzler. Sophomores – Ivan Baker, Owen Bennett, Ty Cipriani, Caleb
Hartsock, Tyler Kennedy, Ryan Lingg, Trenton Miller, Zane Romos, Cayden Sones. Freshmen – Dylan Eck, Tobias Halstead, Sean Holloman, Charles Hutchinson, Wesley Johnson, Jack McChesney, Owen Peck, Isaac Probst, Eli Rinehart, Aiden Wetzler.
OUTLOOK: The Loyalsock boys track and field team got a taste of excitement last postseason when its 400 relay team edged out a bronze finish at districts, qualifying for states in the process. Two members of that squad — Anthony Lewis and Danny Dowell — are back for 2025, headlining a strong but gutted lineup.
Many of its district medalists from last season have since graduated, particularly in the field, but some are back to lead the charge. Lewis (sprints) clinched two podium visits, junior Jeremiah Johnson placed fourth in shot put and its mid-distance room features multiple returning qualifiers in Gavin Griece (800) and Ryan Lingg.
“These experienced athletes will serve as mentors to a large group of underclassmen, many of whom are expected to contribute throughout the season and potentially earn their own postseason berths,” said boys coach Matt Hill when discussing
both squads. “With depth, talent, and leadership on both squads, Loyalsock track and field is primed for a standout 2025 campaign.”
MONTGOMERY
Coach: Joanna Kreisher
Returning state qualifiers: none
Returning district qualifiers: Camden Dalrymple (triple jump, 400 relay); Ken Hampe (shot put); Cash Hill (3,200 relay); Dylan Hill (1,600 relay, 3,200 relay); Logan Joy (400 relay); Jonathan Schmidt (1,600 relay, 3,200 relay); Dylan Sherman (1,600 relay, 3,200 relay); John Shrimp (800).
Roster Seniors – Cy Dixon, Ken Hampe, Dylan Hill, Jonathan Schmidt, Braiden Winter. Juniors – Abram Childs, Camden Dalrymple, Logan Diehl, Raiden Felix, Justin Figard, Porter Hall, Jace Hanford, Cole Rice, John Shrimp, Manny Stoltzfus, Kaiden Tramontona, Benjamin Whitmoyer, Rylee Wilson. Sophomores – Samson Bolden, Cash Hill, Connor Jarrett, Jermain Morgan, Shawn Pysher, Gage Reynolds, Dylan Sherman, Izaiah Shrawder, Cohen Wommer. Freshmen – not listed.
OUTLOOK: Though the Montgomery boys track and field roster (combined with Muncy) remains one of the smaller ones in District 4, where it lacks in depth, it makes up for in the value of its returners.
All three of its individuals that qualified for an event at districts last season are back, with senior Ken Hampe coming off a District 4 podium visit in shot put, where
Gardner, Cy Haight, Boston Havens, Boston Hazen, Gavin Lakes, Maxim Martinez.
OUTLOOK: While the departure of District 4 champion Nate Fisher puts Montoursville in a rough spot when it comes to throws, the Warriors still head into the season harboring states experience, as record-breaking distance runner Weston Fry looks to return to Shippensburg to cap his career. He isn’t the only Montoursville athlete that could bring excitement either.
All four members of its 1,600 and 3,200 relay teams are set to return as well, squads which took fifth and fourth at districts respectively and could push to make states with further improvements. Sean Frey – a member of both – looks to build on his medal in the 800. And Quinn (400) and Bryce Winslow (hurdles) hope to build off qualifications, also playing roles in that relay success.
With plenty to build on and the Winslow brothers having more time to develop after this campaign, the next few seasons of Montoursville track and field should be exciting.
SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT
Coach: Noah Hulslander
Returning state qualifiers Dylan Scheller (triple jump, long jump).
Returning district qualifiers: Evan Barry (high jump, 400 relay); Jack Fortin (javelin); Paxton Gephart (discus, shotput); Dylan Scheller (long jump, triple jump, 400 relay).
he took seventh. Its 1,600 relay team — consisting of Dylan Hill, Jonathan Schmidt, Dylan Sherman and Cash Hill — also remains completely intact, with its 3,200 relay returning three and 400 team returning two.
MONTOURSVILLE
Coach Sean Walker
Returning state qualifiers: Weston Fry (1,600).
Returning district qualifiers: Christian Banks (400 relay); Miles Davis (javelin); Sean Frey (400, 800, 1,600 relay, 3,200 relay); Weston Fry (1,600, 3,200 relay); Noah Kemmerer (javelin); Carter Peters (400 relay); Adam Shearer (1,600 relay); Shaw Simpson (triple jump, pole vault); Andrew Trueman (1,600 relay); Bryce Winslow (300 hurdles, 3,200 relay); Quinn Winslow (400, 1,600 relay, 3,200 relay).
Roster: Seniors – Caleb Butters, Aiden Cohen, Brady Cohen, Todd Crawford, Tyler DeVore, Kacen Engel, Mason Ensanian, Sean Frey, Weston Fry, Cody Kohler, Landon Morehart, Blake Mundrick, Tommaso Pagani, Shaw Simpson, Andrew Trueman. Juniors – Christian Banks, Noah Kemmerer, Cody Marino, Adam Shearer, Ethan Thomas, Quinn Winslow. Sophomores – Colton Beadle, Elijah Bower, Cooper Boyles, Izayiha Brownsberger, Tayvon Burkey, Jordan Cohick, Miles Davis, Simon Dietrich, Ellijah Duarte, Aiden Ellis, Haden Ferguson, Kingston Fisher, Grady Foster, Wesley Foster, Brody Hagemeyer, Oleksandr Martyniuk, Vincent Muscarella, Carter Peters, James Williams, Bryce Winslow. Freshmen –Christian Berwanger, Gavin Bower, Brayden Burkett, Cameron Cintron, Oliver Duarte, Lukas Easton, Levi Eck, Issac Erlandson, Madison
Roster: Seniors – Evan Barry, Paxton Gephart, Dylan Scheller, Dominick Snyder, Max Wilton. Juniors – Blake Barckley, Jack Fortin, Gavin Freas. Sophomores – Brendan Carpenter, Tryston Cronin, Caleb Johnson. Freshmen – Spencer Beatty, Adam Kuriga, Tanner Packard, Benjamin Werner, Eli White, Lucas Zellers.
OUTLOOK: Three-sport athlete Dylan Scheller made waves at last year’s PIAA Track and Field Championships, earning a sixth-place medal in the long jump while also performing well in the triple. With two state qualifications and two District 4 Class AA silvers under his belt and continued progress made through the indoor season, he’ll look to close out his decorated Mountie career — spanning multiple sports — on a high note.
He’ll be joined by almost all of South Williamsport’s district representatives from last year.
Junior Jack Fortin leads a throws room that posted qualifiers in all three events last season, coming off a fourth place outing in javelin. And senior Paxton Gephart fills out the rest of the room, having qualified in discus and shot put.
The biggest class on the current roster is the freshman class, so expect new faces to be heavily featured as well.

Returning district qualifiers Eli Butler (400, 1,600 relay); Gavin Hunter (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles, 1,600 relay); Aiden Hoffman (1,600, 3,200); Gideon Kennel (pole vault); Jackson Stevens (1,600 relay); Cooper Wilkins (long jump, triple jump).
Roster: Seniors – Eli Butler, Quentin Frank, Sam Hall, Gavin Hunter, Colby LeBarron, Benjamin Mack, Maximilian Senf, Peyton Snyder, Brayden Warner, Cooper Wilkins; Krzystof Zdral. Juniors – Griffon Bower, Braego Cieslukowski, Mason Cohoon, Gavin Cromley, Maxwell Fogelman, Aiden Hoffman, Dane LaForme, Shea McNett, Ben Musgrave, David Royles, Michael Royles. Freshmen – Gavin Bailey, Carter Little, Ryan Orwig Smith, Emmett Ranck.
OUTLOOK: While the graduations of state medalist Chase Beachel (high jump) and qualifier Judah Kennel (pole vault) are certainly obstacles to overcome, Warrior Run head coach Shaun Landis is optimistic his team has the pieces to do so. At 38 athletes, he’s set to coach one of his largest rosters to date, plenty which have shown promise.
Gavin Hunter (hurdles) came close to acquiring district medals in multiple events last season, landing one slot short in the 110-meter hurdles and progressing considerably in both events throughout the season. Aiden Hoffman (3,200) and then-freshman Gideon Kennel (pole vault) displayed similar potential, placing 11th in their respective events.
There will be challenges as usual, but Landis feels his team is up for the task.
“With five of the top 10 AA teams from districts last year (in Heartland III), I do not look for it to be easy to win many meets. But I am looking forward to the season and excited to see the growth of our athletes this year,” said Landis. “There have been several athletes putting in a lot of work through the winter and are ready for competition to start.”
WELLSBORO
Coach: Brigette Largey
Returning state qualifiers: none.
Returning district qualifiers Jack Bryant (100, 400 relay, 1,600 relay); Jonathan Carl (100, 400, triple jump, 400 relay); Gabe Carpenter (pole vault); Jude Cuneo (1,600, 1,600 relay); Micaiah Fitch (long jump, 400 relay, 1,600 relay); Ethan Geneski (3,200 relay); Max Macias (1,600, 3,200, 3,200 relay); Jacoby Strang (400 relay); Dylan Tomlinson (1,600 relay); Micah Vickery (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles, high jump); Henry Whitney (3,200 relay).
Roster: Seniors – Jack Bryant, Gabe Carpenter, Alex Citrino, Elijah Cothran, Micaiah Fitch, Tyler Helt, Nathan Morley, Emmanuel Posada, Levi Stone, Micah Vickery. Juniors –
TIM WEIGHT/For The Express Bellefonte brings back numerous district qualifiers and two who had state experience from last year as the Raiders look to build off last year’s success.
OUTLOOK: Back in Class AAA after spending some time in AA, the Bellefonte boys track and field team will also deal with the challenge of filling the voids left behind by a deep senior class. Fortunately, there are plenty of talented athletes left to help with that.
Zane Hummel returns after earning three District 6 medals and qualifying for states in two events last season, a meet which saw him earn PIAA silver in the long jump. Kaiden Williams took fifth at districts in the 3,200 and stands as the lone representative from last year’s 3,200-relay team that placed seventh at states. And though gutted, its relay teams are expected to push for states as well.
Even with the shift to AAA and departures, expectations are high heading into the season. Miller believes his throwers could prosper, his deep sophomore class will prove reliable and that the team possesses depth outside of mid-distance.
OUTLOOK: While Wellsboro’s lone 2024 state qualifier on the boys side (thrower Noah Morey) has since graduated, there’s reason to expect the Green Hornets to be represented on both sides again come late May. Junior Jonathan Carl (400, triple jump) returns looking to build off two 2024 district medals, and most of the team has been hard at work throughout the offseason.
“Our returning district qualifiers are eager to build on their success and compete at an even higher level this season,” said head coach Brigette Largey. “Several athletes have demonstrated exceptional dedication during the offseason, including our returning distance runners — Max Macias, Jude Cuneo, Henry Whitney, Henry Nowak, and Ethan Geneski. Many others have committed themselves to strength training in the weight room.”
Landon Bryant, Jonathan Carl, Jude Cuneo, Josiah Ens, Ethan Geneski, Aaron Kirk, Maxwell Macias, Henry Nowak, Mason Nowak, Davin Seeling, Jacoby Strang, Jacob Thurstin, Henry Whitney, Kiernan Whitsell. Sophomores – Cameron Lane, Ethan Pollaro, Zander Rachiele, Jacob Smith, Dylan Tomlinson, Spencer Winters. Freshmen – Brayden Benjamin, Gavin Carson, Eoin Duffy, Jack Hammerton, Connor Hartman, Logan Johnson, Xavier Lecker, Oliver Matthews, Ransom Schultz, Stephen Tokarz, Brycen Witmer.
With voids to be filled, particularly in throws, underclassmen are also expected
to be necessary for success. Fortunately, Wellsboro harbors plenty, with its freshman class totaling twelve and already displaying promise. When discussing newcomers, Largey highlighted Logan Johnson (mid-distance), Liam Stevens (sprints), Xavier Lecker (sprints), Ransom Schultz and Landon Bryant as freshmen to watch out for in 2025.
“We are highly impressed with our freshman class, as they have been demonstrating exceptional dedication and work ethic,” said Largey. “We also have some sophomores who returning and could make some significant strides from last year.”
WILLIAMSON
Coach Aaron Wooster
Returning state qualifiers: none.
Returning district qualifiers: Jeavon Eick (800); Aiden O’Neal (pole vault).
Roster: Seniors – Steven Hepfer, Matthew McKee, Aiden O’Neal, Jacob Polhamus, Benjamin Reed, Ian Vieira, Cole Warner, Clayton Webster. Juniors – Braeden Colwell, Gabriel Crance, Jeavon Eick, Jeremy Fuhrer, Anthony Hargarther, Jacob Johnson, Carsyn Kemp, Troy Madison, Parker Rowland, Kamron Sutryk, Joshua Teague. Sophomores – Aiden Allen, Mateo de Pedro, Kegan Lane, Kayden Moon, Blaise Sargent, Branden Swimley, Levi Wood. Freshmen – Kenneth Adams, Johnathan
Beach, Ben Bower, Scott Campbell, Michael Cruz, Trevin Hollenbach, Dominick Koehler.
OUTLOOK: Though the departure of two-time state qualifier Kristian Mizdail is a tough one to deal with for Williamson (combined with Cowanesque Valley), the Warriors have prospects of sending another athlete to states on the boys side. Aiden O’Neal has prospered in recent years at pole vault and heads into his senior season looking to build off a fifth place showing at districts in 2024.
We have several athletes who were successful at the district meet last year and at indoor meets this past season,” said head coach Aaron Wooster on the team. “We are also looking to get Aiden O’Neil to the state meet this year.”
Outside of O’Neil, underclassmen like sophomore Mateo de Pedro (sprints, mid-distance) and freshman Ben Bower (jump) are also expected to make an impact. Their biggest classes may be their senior and junior ones, but don’t expect them to be the only ones representing the Warriors come May.
“Ben had a very successful
season as an 8th grader last year and is more mature, faster and stronger as a freshman. (Mateo) has been a beast each time we have had tough workouts,” said Wooster. “We currently have a large number of new athletes who we are attempting to develop into contributing team members.”
Roster Seniors – Jaeden Gabrovsek, Liam Halterman, Ryan Horn, Aden Howell, Zane Hummel, Austin Irvin, Jackson James, Nathan Jewell, Brady Miller, Matrix Mokluk, Cody Moon, Christian Reigh, Jan Rojas-Trinidad; Aaron Shawley, Preston Smith, Shayne Snook, Kaiden Williams, David Witmer. Juniors – Neil Alterio, Mikah Delos-Reyes Hall, Alexander Stanton, Mason Stroud. Sophomores – Padraig Lamb, Landyn Langille, Michael Larson, Tristan Liadis, Calvin Lovrak, Maverick Muchmore,
“For both the girls and boys teams, we want to be one of the top teams in the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference (LHAC) and try to qualify multiple individuals for the PIAA State Championship Meet,” said Miller. “Our boys are back to AAA and, therefore, the competition will be stronger, but our expectations remain the same.”

OUTLOOK: While it’s dealing with a few key departures heading into the season, the Central Mountain boys track and field team possesses more than enough returning talent to push to build on last season.
Of its 21 district qualifiers from last season, 18 are back for 2025, a group which combined for nine medals at Altoona. Jonathan Hughes earned a silver medal in javelin, Jacob Nyman notched placements in both hurdles events and Billy Newman took fourth and sixth in the long and high jump.
“Cooper Bottorf and Dylan Crawford will be stepping into fill Logan Dawes shoes when it comes to discus and shot put. Johnathan Hughes is returning as our top Javelin thrower and also does well in the sprints/400. Damien Winner has been working hard in the 1600 and 3200 after having a strong cross-country season,” said head coach Ellie Sikorskas when discussing returners.
“Sam Wible also returns strong with mid and long-distance races, Isaiah Brinker and Billy Newman are returning strong in the jumps and the sprinters have big shoes to fill with loss of Jordan Donahay,
who now competes for Susquehanna University.”
With Sikorskas also expressing confidence in the team’s newcomers, there’s plenty of reason to expect improvements from this team.
JERSEY SHORE
Coach Robert Fox
Returning state qualifiers: Zack Kendall (300 hurdles).
Roster: Seniors – Benjamin Dalton, Alex Fournier, Elijah Jordan, Zack Kendall, Djy Monny, Blake Oglesby, Jerome Yost. Juniors
– Travis Blackburn, Breylan Guerrero, Danny Hoffman, Kale Klinger, Talyn Lope, Thane McCaffrey, Bo Sechrist, Brayden Swales, Gannon Willoughby, Wyatt Wolfanger. Sophomores –Brady Allison, Mitchell Branton, Samuel Davis, Christian Derrick, Andrew Ingrassia, Jacob Machmer, Khani McCray, Leighten Walters, Jayden Weaver. Freshmen – Ty McDermit, Orrin Pennycoff.
OUTLOOK: The Jersey Shore boys track and field faces a tough hill to climb this season, harboring the smallest roster it’s had in Robert Fox’s 29 years being its coach. Fortunately, the athletes it does feature are tremendously talented. Zack Kendall returns to the track fresh off a PIAA appearance as a junior, falling inches short of a District 4 Class AAA title but still managing to hit a qualifying mark. Fox also expects progress from senior Elijah Jordan in sprints, the distance duo of Brady Allsion and Jayden

Weaver and Gannon Willoughby on pole vault.
“Zack is working extremely hard this season and he should continue to improve off last year’s efforts,” said Fox. “(Regarding newcomers), Travis Blackburn is showing potential in the throws, Khani McCray and Breylan Guerrero are showing potential in the jumping events and Ty McDermit is very athletic.”
There are plenty of challenges ahead and the team adjusts to its lack of depth and experience, but the goal is to help these athletes improve as they look to make the most of the season. Plenty of underclassmen will be featured in those efforts.
“Our expectations are to improve our athletes that are out this year. We do not have a large nucleus of returning athletes, so we are hoping to have the younger guys fill in,” said Fox. “We have a lot of question marks, but the guys have shown their great work ethics so far this year and the newer guys are learning at an impressive rate.”

ing last year’s heights, particularly in mid-distance and distance, there’s plenty of reason to expect Williamsport to be more than competitive in its quest to defend its 2024 District 4 Class AAA title. Multiple underclassmen played crucial roles in that success and have been working towards building on it, along with a strong incoming senior class.
Umar Starks (long jump), one of the team’s three returning district champs, is expected to miss most of the season with injury,
but the hope is that he can make a full recovery ahead of postseason. Aiden Everett (jumps) and Alex Takach (sprints) will also push to defend district titles, with Takach headlining a sophomore class that also features talent in throws, distance and hurdles. With holes to be filled in hurdles and javelin, coupled with additional ones from injuries, newcomers could also be expected to make an impact.
Multi-sport freshman Tevin Williams is a prime candidate there,
along with Zion Hughes, Nysiem Williams and Waylon Edler. “Last spring, (Tevin) was extremely successful on the track and as a high jumper. I am confident that he will make an impact within the high school competition fairly quickly,” said Steppe. “As a coach, I am strategically looking at getting some athletes focused in some specific areas so that we can be a well-rounded team that will look to defend the district title.”
