GYMNASTICS We ask family and friends to remain outside the gym during class times to reduce distractions for our students, except for: 1) at least one parent will be asked to stay and observe any environment with only one staff member, 2) parents of new students may stay during the first class, 3) if a staff member asks a parent to stay. We encourage all parents to observe the last class of each session.

ParentTots Princess Pre-Ballet Using themed props and music, little princesses are introduced to ballet steps, across-the-floor movement and dance combinations in this imaginative ballet and creative movement class. Wear ballet shoes with leather soles.

Built around imaginative themes and gymnastics activities, young children begin to learn how to hop on two feet and hang and support with their arms from low gymnastic equipment in this structured basic movement class. They get comfortable being upside down by rolling and learn to perform basic gymnastic positions, including tuck, straddle, pike and sticking ta-da landings. One participating child per parent. Unregistered siblings are not allowed in the gym during class time.

TinyTots

TumbleTots

An introduction to each gymnastic apparatus is utilized with an emphasis on creative movement activities and organized circuit play. Instructors lead a warm-up, followed by rotations around events or skill circuits so that students may learn a wide array of fundamental movements and positions.

Older preschool-age children learn to develop strength, coordination, balance and flexibility utilizing themed skilled circuits and exciting gymnastics activities. Continuing students refine fundamental skills introduced in TinyTots and enjoy increased challenges to prepare for the next level of gymnastics. First time participants welcome.

Thank you for your cooperation. On average, students take one year to complete a level. We recommend students attend yearround or two days per week to increase the rate of learning.

Square Dance

Swing Dance

Modern Western square dancing is a fun, friendly and sociable activity for dancers of all ages and ability levels. An evening of square dancing provides a gentle cardiovascular workout, equivalent to a three-mile walk, and keeps your memory strong, as you learn and practice the 100 internationally recognized square dance calls. Each lesson (7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.) focuses on beginning to mainstream calls for newer dancers. The second session (8:30 p.m. – 10 p.m.) adds a progression of more challenging calls. No partner or experience needed. Dress is casual. Wear comfortable shoes. Questions? Visit SunnyvaleSquares.com or call 408-744-1021.

Take advantage of the spacious floor and wall mirrors to work on solo dancing, bring a friend to practice moves in an open, collaborative environment or take the short, 30-minute lesson at the beginning of the night from an instructor. Lessons are suitable for intermediate to advanced swing dancers, and cover a new topic each night. After the lesson, guest DJs provide music for Lindy, Charleston, Balboa, Shag and Blues dance. Questions? Email ForDancersOnlySB@gmail.com or call 408-657-7836.

NEW

City Brand and Website Why did we update our website and logo? The City’s new brand was an integral part of updating our archaic and failing website to a stable, secure and mobile-friendly system. The three-year website redesign project began with an extensive review of the City’s current brand system that revealed a vast family of different logos, sub-brands and icons; fragmented messaging; and myriad design styles – all of which dilute brand recognition and create brand confusion. Uncovering this inconsistency became a timely and strategic opportunity to develop a new brand system – including logo and design guidelines – that would not only guide our significant investment in the new website, but also enable us to align in how we represent the City organization across all channels and services. Our new logo is a contemporary version of the cone-shaped logo created for us almost 50 years ago in 1971. The new design better represents our

organization’s brand and range of services, and meets the needs of all communications platforms, particularly digital channels like websites and social media that did not exist in the ’70s. Our new website is now on an up-to-date, responsive platform and reflects a user-focused approach supported by a bold, modern design adaptable to our changing needs.

What does our logo symbolize? Our new symbol tells our story and maintains our rich history – grounded by a strong, stable base, the top radiates with vitality reflective of our municipality and the diverse community we serve. The new design reinterprets the previous logo’s valley, sun and rays and represents them as the perfect balance of energy and stability in our organization. The green color symbolizes strong attributes of Sunnyvale: balance, growth, energy, sustainability, parks and green space. The circular shape evokes the earth for sustainability and our global setting of Silicon Valley.

The City has redesigned its website with improved features such as multiple search and navigation options, shareable news posts, a filterable calendar, and social media center. We’ve also launched ‘Access Sunnyvale,’ our new system to make it easier for customers to request services and submit requests online via the new mobile-friendly website. The site has entirely new content, an up-to-date platform, and a bold, modern design.

New City Branding

Our Vision A thriving community that innovates our world. Who participated in the project? Design and brand experts hired by the City led the process to develop the brand language and then create the new logo and brand guidelines. City staff, councilmembers, commissioners, and members of the public participated at various points; a team of councilmembers, City staff and a resident selected the final logo.

What did the project cost? Consultants helped develop the brand language ($13,750) and create the new logo and brand guidelines ($82,500); these costs are 14% of the total website project budget of $700,000 over three years, which includes the underlying content management system, consultant services to build the new site and temporary employees hired to support the project.

Why spend money on this? Our City website – one of our most critical sources of information – was a bloated, out-of-date system that needed a complete overhaul to meet user needs. Brands are fundamental to organizations and require regular review and updates just like other facility, equipment and technology investments. All successful organizations ensure their brand identity is clearly defined and their brand system (e.g., logo, messages, services) cohesively reflects that identity, internally and externally.

Our Mission We will inspire innovative and collaborative solutions and leverage opportunities to address the changing needs of our diverse community.

Pride in Our People, Services & Community The City of Sunnyvale is a complex, dynamic organization with a rich history and deeply instilled pride. From safety, infrastructure and utilities to recreation, education and wellness, we are a vital source of essential services, spanning the community’s basic needs to its overall quality of life. We also provide

The City will gradually phase in the new logo and deplete existing supplies of materials prior to replacing them. Most items are already standard purchases with established budgets that are easy to update such as letterhead, forms, brochures and apparel. We will update other more expensive or fixed items, such as building and street signs, on their regular replacement cycle. Each item will also be considered for opportunities to improve our processes and products.

PROCEDURES Waiting Lists

Missed classes

• A waiting list is established if a program is full.

If a class meeting is cancelled by the City, staff will make every effort to notify you as soon as possible by phone or email. Staff will let you know if there is a make-up class or credit will be issued. Please make sure your contact information is current so we can reach you. The City does not offer make-up classes or issue credits when individual customers miss a class for illness or other personal reasons.

• If a space becomes available, staff will notify parent/guardian by telephone. • Payment is not charged until an opening becomes available. • If you are paying for multiple classes with one check and one or more classes are full, a refund check will be mailed within approximately four weeks. • Mail-in registrations that are received after program is full are automatically placed on the waiting list. Checks sent with mail-in registrations will be returned if space does not become available.

Cancellation Policy • Programs may be cancelled when the minimum enrollment is not met.
