Financial Assistance for Youth Activities (Sunnyvale Residents Only)
Occasionally, modifications may need to be made to planned activities, excursions or curriculum. At the same time, changes may occur in location or the number of class offerings. Please read your receipts carefully. We will correct any changes in locations, times, dates and fees online.
Deadline to use Fee Waiver funds for 2018-19 funding cycle is Sept. 30. Applications are now available for the next funding cycle. Allow two to four weeks to process. Approved funds for the new cycle are available from Oct. 1, 2019 through Sept. 30, 2020. Fee Waiver funds cannot be transferred to another child.

GYMNASTICS We ask family and friends to remain outside the gym during class times to reduce distractions for our students, except for: 1) at least one parent will be asked to stay and observe any environment with only one staff member, 2) parents of new students may stay during the first class, 3) if a staff member asks a parent to stay. SUPER SAFARI PRESCHOOL Super Safari is a play-based recreation program designed to provide children their first experience in a structured environment. The program runs September through early May and follows the Sunnyvale School District holiday schedule. The goal is to encourage children’s imaginations and creativities through a play-based learning environment. Experienced staff members lead a variety of hands-on activities such as art, language, storytelling, math readiness, circle time and music movement. Children must be toilet trained by first day of class.

Congratulations on successfully completing the Rec FUNdamentals class! Boys focus on more difficult skills and routines on floor exercise, pommel horse, vault, parallel bars, high bar and trampoline. Girls focus on a more difficult progression of skills and routines for vault, uneven bars, balance beam, floor exercises and trampoline. Coaches utilize a skill card to track student progress.
Congratulations on successfully completing the Intermediate course! Community Explorations
Teen Hangout Hang out with your friends for an afternoon of games, active activities, arts and crafts, music and socializing. Participants will strengthen skills in social interaction, decision making, independence and self-expression. Explore the community while improving life skills while strengthening life skills in money management and social etiquette. Four weeks of the session are held at the Senior Center to identify and develop life skills needed on community outings. Other activities in center include working out in the fitness room and playing billiards. The other four weeks will feature different community outings that may include hiking, museums, shopping, movies and more. Admission fees are included. Transportation is not provided. Pre-Competitive Swim Training
Focusing on aerobic cardio, endurance, strength and flexibility to achieve the goal of improving overall body fitness. Instructors are certified by the United States Water Fitness Association.
Improve your fitness level and develop competitive swim strokes to prepare for club or school teams. Pre-requisites: Swim 200 yds. of freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke and 25 yds. of butterfly.
Recreational Diving (Spring sessions) Learn springboard diving basics, including safe practices, approaches and entries. Pre-requisites: Swim 25 yds. and tread water for one minute.

FootGolf Play two of your favorite sports in one! A great teambuilding activity, FootGolf is a combination of the popular sports of soccer and golf. The game is played with a regulation #5 soccer ball on shortened holes with 21-inch diameter cups, with rules largely corresponding to the rules of golf. Play at the same time as golfers. Rich Bland, Professional Golfers’ Association of America (PGA) Director of Instruction Hours: Th and Sa, 12 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. or by appointment A professional golfer for over 40 years, Rich Bland has won numerous events since beginning competitive golf as a junior player. In addition to Sunnyvale’s courses, he has worked at Sunol Valley Golf Course, Sea Ranch and taught at John Jacobs Golf Schools. As a player, he has qualified for the PGA National Senior Championship. As an instructor, he has been awarded the PGA’s Junior Golf Leader Award, with 17 of his juniors earning golf scholarships at major universities. To register, call 408-739-6588. A PGA Class A member since 2007, Haeyoung Lee joined Sunnyvale Golf team in September 2017. He was on the New Mexico State University Golf Team for four years and actively competed in numerous golf tournaments. Throughout his professional golf career, he developed a passion for teaching all levels of golfers. Prior to joining Sunnyvale Golf team, Haeyoung was the Director of Golf at Coyote Creek Golf Course. Terry Myers, Professional Golfers’ Association of America (PGA) Class A Member A PGA Class A member since 1992, Terry has given over 40,000 lessons during his teaching career. Terry recently worked at Santa Clara Golf and Tennis Club, Sequoyah Country Club in Oakland and Almaden Country Club. He has authored a book titled, Take Control of Your Game (1999), a learning guide for simple and consistent golf. Terry still plays competitively in the Northern California PGA Club Professional tournaments.

How Do I Request a Refund/Transfer?
Registration Opens Aug. 6, 2019 (begins online at 12:01 a.m.)
• Refunds may be requested by phone (408-730-7350), fax (408-730-7754), or in person at the Recreation Center. If submitting via fax or in person, be prepared to present a receipt. If submitting by phone, be prepared to share info from your receipt. Receipts can be printed online.

• Refunds will be issued in the form of a check, credit card or coupon, depending on the original method of payment. Cash payments will be refunded by check.

Participants must be that age by class start date. • Registration is accepted (space permitting) until the second class meeting unless otherwise noted.
Missed Classes
• A waiting list is established if a program is full.
If a class meeting is cancelled by the City, staff will make every effort to notify you as soon as possible by phone or email. Staff will let you know if there is a make-up class or credit will be issued. Please make sure your contact information is current so we can reach you. The City does not offer make-up classes or issue credits when individual customers miss a class for illness or other personal reasons.
• If a space becomes available, staff will notify adult participant or parent/guardian by telephone.
Non-Participants
• For golf, tennis or Sunnyvale Swim Complex registration, see pages 55 – 59.
Waiting Lists
• Payment is not charged until an opening becomes available. • If you are paying for multiple classes with one check and one or more classes are full, a refund check will be mailed within approximately four weeks. • Mail-in registrations that are received after program is full are automatically placed on the waiting list. Checks sent with mail-in registrations will be returned if space does not become available.
Cancellation Policy • Programs may be canceled when the minimum enrollment is not met. Please register early. • If a program is canceled, participants are notified by phone and given the option to transfer to another class or receive a full refund. Please note refunds take up to four weeks to process. • See refund/transfer policy for additional information.
Refund/Transfer Policy • Class refund and transfer requests must be received prior to the second class meeting for most classes and at least four weeks prior to the first day of camp. • A $10 processing fee per transaction applies for all refunds. A $5 processing fee per transaction applies for all transfers. • Refunds and transfers will not be issued for one- and two-day camps or classes.
The City of Sunnyvale does not allow unregistered individuals in the program space, except when family and friends are invited to attend youth performances or demonstrations.
Fee Waiver Assistance & Subsidized Program for Youth Fee Waiver Assistance: Eligible Sunnyvale residents may apply to offset the expense of class registration fees up to $234 for youth (ages 17 and under) per eligible family member, per funding cycle. Fee Waiver Assistance Program resources are limited and subject to the availability of funds. Subsidized Program: If preapproved, families can pay a subsidized rate on select programs. To apply: Fee Waiver Applications are available at the Columbia Neighborhood Center, the Sunnyvale Community Center or online at Sunnyvale.ca.gov. Please allow two to four weeks for a response to your application. Any funds not used are forfeited and cannot be carried over to the next funding cycle nor used for another child.
