A MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR

Are you ready for summer? We are! Our Sunnyvale Library and Recreation Services team has dialed up a variety of programs, camps and events to keep you and your family thriving this summer! Below are a few highlights to pique your interest.

Our annual Hands on the Arts, a Celebrate Sunnyvale event, is scheduled for Saturday, May 13. We look forward to celebrating the many cultures of our community with performances, art projects and food at this family-friendly festival. The Lakewood Branch Library and Learning Center plans are in the building permit review and is expected to complete the project by the end of 2024.

Summer is the best time to be outside enjoying our local parks. Picnic areas are open for reservation and make a great spot for any celebration. Thursday Nights in the Park will be back in June and July and the Sunset Movie Series returns in August, all providing excellent ways to enjoy a fun evening in your local parks (page 11). Plus, be sure to participate in our Summer Reading Program to win prizes and explore an ocean of possibilities.

Cool off during recreation swim hours beginning June 12 at Columbia Middle School Pool and the Washington Community Swim Center (page 60). The Lakewood Branch Library and learning Center design is now complete and building is expected to open to the public in late 2024.

Recreation scholarships are available for Sunnyvale youth 17 years or younger to participate in our 2023 camps, programs, classes and activities. Applications in English, Spanish and Chinese can be found online or in-person by visiting the Columbia Neighborhood Center or Community Center. There’s something for everyone this summer, so come join us! Also, check out the ad below for our annual State of the City event celebrating our City Hall opening. If you have a program idea or question, contact us at recreation@sunnyvale.ca.gov.

Sincerely,

SUNNYVALE RECREATION
