Celebrating 20 Years

n the fall of 1993, with a son in college and two daughters in high school, our parents cashed in their retirement and started what was to become Sunrise Tours. In 1994, Jim Dalrymple managed (escorted) the first tour; a trip planned by Charlene Dalrymple to New York City and Washington DC taken by a travel group from Shrewsbury, MO. After the initial success of that tour, word spread about a hardworking and creative new family-owned tour company in St. Louis. By 1999, Charlene and Jim were working 7 days a week and in that single year, Charlene planned and Jim managed 275 total days of touring for Sunrise customers. Of course that pace was not sustainable and many fantastic employees, starting with Kristen Dalrymple in 1999 and Shelby Moll in 2000, have joined us over the years. As we celebrate our 20th year in business in 2014, we are as committed as ever to working hard to make your vacation a success. We appreciate the trust you put in us to provide excellent value for your vacation dollars and we pledge to continue to endeavor to be the hardest working, most creative tour company in the country.

by Sharon & Terry Woodburn

Have you ever felt “wonderfully exhausted”?? I bet you have. Terry and I feel this way whenever we have just completed an important project that commanded our full attention and energies for a period of time; planning a neighborhood get-together, participating in a church charity project, hosting a family gathering, babysitting young grandkids (whew!). It’s a lot of work to be in charge, isn’t it? First there is the planning, when you try to gather all the resources that you need to fulfill the assignment. Then there is the actual event where you need to anticipate the immediate needs of all involved and plan for the unexpected(“where is the slotted spoon for the green beans?”). Finally there is the clean-up phase, when, if all goes well, you gain strength to finish by reflecting upon the success of your

efforts. As the Winter Olympics approach, we look forward with anticipation and thankfulness. We can sit back to watch amazing talent and be reassured that we are not “in charge” of any aspect of the two weeks of events. That’s what makes it fun to watch! Here at Sunrise Tours we want to help you have fun so that we can feel “wonderfully exhausted”! We enjoy planning trips for you and anticipate all that is needed for a completely wonderful experience with all the professional “know-how” we have accumulated, and we look forward to reflecting on the fun we have had together while we put the coolers away. So take a break from your busy lives and let us be in charge. Looking forward to seeing you on a trip soon!

Straight from the Heart! Recently I took a group of Sunrise Tours travelers to beautiful Pennsylvania on the Laurel Highlands & Gettysburg tour. We had a wonderful time and learned a lot as we traveled along parts of the National Highway, Lincoln Highway and more. One of the things I learned that made an impression on me was the fact that a stagecoach would average traveling 10 miles per day, so consequently the stagecoach inns were spaced approximately every 10 miles along the highway to provide shelter for travelers! So if we were traveling via stagecoach today, it would take us 4.5 days to pick up passengers just to start a trip! The day trips we take today would have taken weeks a hundred+ years ago! I’m so thankful we are able to travel long distances today in a relatively short time to see and experience our beautiful country. This thought had come to me as I was planning more day trips for 2014. Currently there are 20 day trips planned for 2014 and I expect to plan perhaps 3 more. Amazing

by Karen Pettyjohn

we can travel in 20 days what would have taken at least a year during stagecoach days! As you review the new trips I would encourage you to sign up as soon as possible so that you are assured a seat. The next day trip in March is the “Musical Journey through Ireland with Cahal Dunne” which will be a wonderful show! Also be sure to look for “Menopause the Musical”, April 2, 2014, that was just added at the request of some of our travelers who traveled with me to LaComedia Club in Springboro, OH to see the Christmas Special! I do listen to your suggestions – please keep them coming. Be sure to also review the once in a lifetime “Centennial Festival of Riverboats” trip to Louisville, Ky., October 17, 2014. Policies Cancellations Our refund policy for cancellations varies according to the type of tour. Your deposit for an overnight tour is fully refundable up to the final payment due date. On any cancellation made after final payment is due, we reserve the right to withhold monies for non-refundable expenses. All overnight motorcoach: Full refund up to the day of departure for medical reasons except for non-refundable expenses to us. Many hotels, restaurants & activities require pre-payment. Fly/Coach: The motorcoach portion of the tour is fully refundable (except for non-refundable expenses incurred by us) up to the day before departure for medical reasons. The refund of the flight portion of the cost is dictated by the airline. If we can get a refund on the flight or find someone to use the ticket, we will certainly pass that refund on to you. However, if we cannot obtain a refund, we will be unable to refund that portion of the tour price. Cruise: Refund for cancellation of cruises depends on the cruise line and if you have purchased their optional trip cancellation insurance. Please call for questions on a specific cruise. One day tours: Please see “How to book a day trip” on next page for details. Final Payment Your final payment is due 30 days before departure for an all-motorcoach tour and 60 days before departure for tours involving air unless otherwise noted. For one day tours, full payment is due in full upon making reservation. Included in the Tour Price (and tipping policy) The price of the tour includes all attractions, lodging, motorcoach transportation, breakfast and dinner daily (unless noted otherwise), and tips for hotel, airport, and restaurant personnel. Tips for the driver, tour managers, and step-on guides are left to the discretion of the traveler and should be in accordance with services received. Typical gratuities for tour manager and driver are

$3-$5 per person, per day each. Trip Insurance For 2 main reasons we highly recommend the purchase of trip insurance and can provide information on Berkley Insurance: 1) Trip interruption – There are circumstances that can prevent passengers from fully participating in a tour and may require an early departure or extended stay. For example, if a passenger suffers an injury that prevents the traveler from continuing on the tour, insurance will cover the cost of the extended stay, the cost of transportation home and the value of the missed tour (subject to claim submission and acceptance by Berkley Insurance). If you do not have insurance, you will personally incur these costs and it can be very expensive. 2) Trip cancellation - If you are forced to cancel a tour for medical reasons (for you or an immediate family member), having insurance ensures a complete refund of monies paid (except for the cost of insurance). Sunrise cannot guarantee this because there are times when monies are paid on your behalf prior to departure. Pick-up points For each trip, we determine the pickup points based on demand. All pickup points may not be offered on each departure. W 5805 Rockville Rd. (Sam’s Club) N 9333 N. Meridian St. (Meridian N.
