Saturday, September 15, 2012 Pass through the gates to meet some of the outstanding men and women who operate and maintain the aircraft and equipment of our military. The Air Show will showcase the Thunderbirds Demonstration Team as well as the work done at Scott AFB to execute our nation’s military missions. A variety of aircraft and military equipment will be available to view on the flightline and inside the nearby hangar. Charlie’s Chatter This year Jim and I have become two of the 10,000 boomers to be retiring daily until the year 2030. Hopefully like us, these retiring boomers like to travel and will keep Sunrise Tours humming in business many years! We will continue to host Sunrise travelers on the Florida Stay N Play winter escapes (page 38) and be on call for last minute tour assignments after our last official tour assignment “Maine & the Gaspe Peninsula” (page 15).

Now I find myself perusing this new brochure as a new retiree and thinking that the Switzerland and Northern Italy or Colorado New Year’s trip would surely make a nice anniversary or Christmas gift to receive! (I wonder if Jim reads this column?) And as I peruse a little more I notice Sunrise is “Exploring the 5 Boroughs of New York” (page 48) where they are staying at a new

Fairfield Inn in Brooklyn with rooftop views of the Manhattan and Brooklyn skylines and a day free to explore as you wish. I would love to walk across The Brooklyn Bridge for the first time and return for a second visit to the beautiful Cloisters overlooking the Hudson River. Or maybe I can finally visit the Outer Banks of North Carolina on “Boardwalks and Beaches”. We have friends who go there yearly and would love to see for myself why it is so special. Or …”Made in the USA” - I love to hear the pride in the voices of the people who show us their product and how it is made.

From the Back of the Bus

• Why do I hope Albert Pujols struggles to hit .200 this year? From the back of the bus or anywhere else, I think the Los Angeles Angels will live to regret the contract it took to get Albert Pujols!

• Every hotel that has been nice enough to give me a bed to sleep in since 1994, I have taken at least my leftover bar of soap from them. Soap is now 1/5 of my budget and growing!

• I can confirm that it snows in Yellowstone Park during the winter months. It was beautiful, whether or not you like snow. If you ever get the chance to visit Yellowstone in the winter, it is like the chance to dance, I hope you do it!

Detroit will regret Prince Fielder’s contract, also!

• I do not even remember a member of my high school team being worth that much and a dollar was worth 99 cents then.

• In addition to the soap, I have not purchased a shirt since 1994. From Fess Parker’s winery in California to Louisville Slugger in Kentucky and the NTA annual conference wherever, many nice people have given me shirts. Shirts are now 1/5 of my budget.

• Seeing a moose on the Maine and Gaspe Peninsula trip would only be a plus on this trip, but the sheer beauty will make it worthwhile. Seeing animals, like leaves, is always a “moving target” on a trip.

• Hotels have been kind enough to give me breakfasts since 1994. How much do you think that is worth? I do not know, but stay at home breakfasts are now 1/5 of my budget.

• Now that Sunrise has a number of trips with multiple coaches, does that mean the Tour Manager changes buses at the break?

• Why do they make jackets with no sleeves?

Do you wear a jacket for reasons other than warmth? I am asking because jackets are now 1/5 of my budget!

• Even though I now use 4/5 of my budget on things that were given to me since 1994, life is good. I can still travel with Sunrise Tours occasionally.

So can you, and you have paid for your shirts since 1994. Please do not leave home without a reservation with us.

“Grand” Vacation to Michigan

Day 1: South Haven, MI Depart St. Louis aboard a luxury motorcoach and travel north through Illinois to South Haven, MI, along the scenic shores of Lake Michigan. D

Day 2: Philadelphia, PA Arrive in Philadelphia in time to enjoy dinner at “The City Tavern”. This is the same place that John Adams frequented when he arrived in Philadelphia in August of 1774 to attend the First Continental Congress. Perhaps you will try an ale brewed according to George Washington’s original recipe! B, D Day 3: “We the people…”

A local professional guide will lead us as we visit the most patriotic sites in Philadelphia including the Liberty Bell Center for an upclose viewing of the revered artifact, the National Constitution Center which features interactive and multimedia exhibits explaining our nation’s constitution, and Independence Hall where the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution were signed. We will also visit the first President’s House. This site was home to the first “White House” from 1790 to 1800 while Philadelphia was capital of the United States. Folklife Festival which is an exposition of cultural heritage held outdoors featuring musicians, storytellers, performers, craftspeople on the national mall. It is a time to celebrate! After dinner, we will unpack our bags for 2 nights in the DC area. B, D Day 5: God Bless America Today we celebrate the 4th of July in our Nation’s Capital! This morning we depart for Mount Vernon, George Washington’s mansion, gardens and grounds. Afterwards, a local professional guide will join us as we tour DC and learn of its immense history. Return to the National Mall with time to discover more favorite sites. Enjoy the fireworks display at the end of the day seated on the National Mall in Sunrise Tours’ chairs. B, D

Day 6: President’s homes A freedom tour would not be complete without a visit to the homes of some of our other fine presidents. Heading west, we travel to Orange, VA to tour Montpelier, the lifelong home and estate of James Madison. It was at Montpelier where Madison researched past democracies and conceived of the system of government that became our republic. Then we’re off to Charlottesville, VA to tour Monticello, the estate of Thomas Jefferson.

You will get an intimate look at the house Thomas Jefferson built and furnished for himself and his family including glimpses of the books and objects that reveal Jefferson’s sharp mind. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at the Stonewall Jackson Hotel. The hotel, which originally opened in 1924, is considered an excellent example of a Colonial Revivalist style with modern amenities.

Civil War Sesquicentennial Day 1: Lincoln’s Boyhood Home Traveling east, we stop to tour the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial and have the opportunity to walk on the same ground that Abraham Lincoln did as a boy. This evening, dinner is in Lexington, KY with a special guest appearance by Mary Todd Lincoln! B, D Day 2: Jackson Remembered A scenic drive east through the Appalachians of the George Washington National Forest offers a glimpse into the regions rich natural resources.

Our local guide will join us in Lexington, VA to explore the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetery and the VMI where General Stonewall Jackson taught. His stuffed horse, Little Sorrel, can be seen at the Museum. In the heart of downtown sits the Sheridan Livery Inn which was built in 1887 as the town’s stable and carriage service and original post office. Enjoy dinner at the livery before we overnight in Lynchburg, VA. Did you know the trains were nicknamed for their original gas engines, which prompted folks to say: “You can smell ‘em before you can see ‘em.” In the midst of the Redwood Forest, we will enjoy a delicious catered BBQ lunch. Florida Stay ‘N Play Travel by motorcoach to Florida for a two-week Jan 25-Feb 11 or four-week Jan 11-Feb 11 stay on the white sand beaches of St. Pete Beach, a barrier island community on the Gulf coast of Florida west of mainland Tampa. This will be our eighth year to offer this winter escape and those who have traveled with us have become very fond of this area.

Your days can be as busy or leisurely as you wish.

Besides walking the beautiful beach, playing cards with fellow travelers, relaxing in a hammock, or lounging poolside or on the beach with a good book, you can always hop on the local Trolley, which stops in front of our hotel daily every 20-30 minutes, and travel south to Pass-a-Grille or east to St. Petersburg or connect to a bus route north to Clearwater.

Sunrise will also offer two excursions each week.

These excursions are optional therefore admission fees are not included in your tour price. Some activities we have offered in the past have been bay cruises, theatre, local street festivals and visits to Sarasota, Tampa, Tarpon Springs, state parks, Busch Gardens, Sea World, Disney World, Bok Tower, Big Cat Rescue Center, Museums, farmer and flea markets and Botanical Gardens.

Transportation to church, the grocery store, local golf courses or other places on a need basis can also be arranged.

This will be the third year we will be staying at the Sirata Beach Resort. The Sirata has a restaurant and two beach bars which serve food, a fitness center, business center, sundry shop and a large laundry room on the premises. As a Sunrise Tours guest, the Sirata will give a 10% discount on all restaurant food purchases and there is no extra cost for high-speed wireless internet access in your room and a beach cabana daily. Policies Cancellations Our refund policy for cancellations varies according to the type of tour. Your deposit is fully refundable up to the final payment due date. On any cancellation made after final payment is due, we reserve the right to withhold monies for non-refundable expenses.

All motorcoach: Refund up to the day of departure for medical reasons except for non-refundable expenses to us. Many hotels, restaurants & activities require prepayment.

Fly/Coach: The motorcoach portion of the tour is fully refundable (except for nonrefundable expenses incurred by us) up to the day before departure for medical reasons. The refund of the flight portion of the cost is non-refundable.

Cruise and International tours: Refund for cancellation of cruises and international tours depend on the cruise line or tour operator. Please call for questions on a specific cruise or tour.

Final Payment Your final payment is due 30 days before departure for an all-motorcoach tour and 60 days before departure for tours involving air unless otherwise noted. One-day tour payments are due in full upon reservation. Please call us in reference to cruise payment deadlines.

Tour Price Inclusions (and tipping policy) The price of the tour includes all attractions, lodging, motorcoach transportation, breakfast and dinner daily (unless noted otherwise), and tips for hotel, airport, and restaurant personnel. If the tour involves air travel, the cost of the ticket is included unless otherwise noted. Some airlines charge for checked baggage and that is not included in the tour price. Tips for the driver, tour managers, and step-on guides are left to the discretion of the traveler and should be in accordance with services received.

Trip Insurance For 2 main reasons we highly recommend the purchase of trip insurance and can provide information on Berkley Insurance: 1) Trip interruption – There are circumstances that can prevent passengers from fully participating in a tour and may require an early departure or extended stay. For example, if a passenger suffers an injury that prevents the traveler from continuing on the tour, insurance will cover

the cost of the extended stay, the cost of transportation home and the value of the missed tour (subject to claim submission and acceptance by Berkley Insurance). If you do not have insurance, you will personally incur these costs and it can be very expensive. 2) Trip cancellation - If you are forced to cancel a tour for medical reasons (for you or an immediate family member), having insurance ensures a complete refund of monies paid (except for the cost of insurance). Sunrise cannot guarantee this because there are times when monies are paid on your behalf prior to departure.

Pick-up points For each trip, we determine the pick-up points based on point requests. We have pick-up points to service the north, west, south and central areas of St. Louis metropolitan area and St. Charles and Illinois. All pick-up points allow parking for your vehicle. Sunrise’ pick up point partners offer the use of parking spaces during tour as a courtesy to Sunrise travelers. Neither Sunrise Tours nor parking lot owners assume responsibility for incidents occurring to parked cars. You will be notified of which pick-ups we are using for your tour in a letter about 2 weeks prior to departure.

If you would like to stay overnight before leaving on the tour, we can provide a hotel room at some of our pick-ups for a reduced rate. If our routing allows, we may pick up along the way in outlying areas.

Identification A passport is required on any tour that leaves the United States, including Canada.

Photo ID’s are required on all fly tours and recommended on all tours.

Singles Requesting Roommates If you would like to go on tour with us, but do not have a roommate for a specific trip, let us know and we will match you with someone else (same sex of course). Just let us know at least 60 days before departure and we will room you with another traveler at the double rate. If there is no roommate available on the tour you request, you will still only have to pay the price of a double.

If you decline the roommate assigned, you will be responsible for the single supplement. Of course, if you prefer to travel individually, you can still sign up for the single fare. This offer is not valid on cruises, and some select tours.

Method of Payments For deposits we accept checks or cash. For

final payment we accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, check or cash.

Seating on the Motorcoach Seating is assigned and will be rotated on a daily basis. Special seating requests are honored on the basis of availability. Paying the single fare does NOT ensure you will have a seat to yourself on the coach, it only ensures you a room by yourself.

Responsibility Sunrise Tours is not responsible for any injury, delay, loss or accident due to any act or negligence on the part of any person or company rendering services on any of our tours. We reserve the right to change any itinerary.

After You Book A Tour...

After you have booked a tour and we have received your deposit, the following is a schedule of correspondences: 1) confirmation of deposit received 2) your final payment is due 30 days before departure for an all-motorcoach tour or 60 days before departure for tours involving air (please note you will NOT receive an invoice when final payment is due) 3) you will receive a letter about 2-3 weeks prior to departure that will include your luggage tags and important details such as pick-up times and locations, hotel phone #’s, what to bring etc..It will also include a detailed itinerary (subject to change).

Groups 1) On scheduled trips, we provide 1 complimentary tour for 20 paid passsengers, or a 5% commission for fundraising efforts.

2) Have an idea? Let us know. We will create a trip just for your groups’ interest and budget.

3) You don’t have to “fill the bus”, because all of our scheduled tours are open to any number of members. If 10 members sign up for any scheduled trip, we come to your location in the St. Louis metro area, pick them up, and show them a great time.

Pictures By signing up for and participating in a tour, you are agreeing to have any pictures taken on tour published in Sunrise Tours printed or web material. If you do not wish to have your picture used in any form by Sunrise Tours, please notify us prior to traveling.
