Saturday, June 22, 2013 Sonny Rollins “Saxophone Colossus” is an American jazz tenor saxophonist whose career has earned him honors, accolades and awards. In 2011 he received our nation’s highest honor for artistic excellence, the Medal of Arts. Since practicing on the Williamsburg Bridge to sold out concerts worldwide, his live performances are unforgettable. His last show at the Touhill had a staggering seven standing ovations. Day 1: Shipshewana, IN Travel to Shipshewana, IN, the heart of Indiana’s vibrant Amish country, and enjoy a hearty dinner at the Blue Gate Restaurant, located within the Riegsecker Marketplace. After dinner, take a look at the unique items in the Riegsecker Marketplace, featuring wood products that have made the Riegsecker name known throughout the Midwest. Our home for the next three nights is the Farmstead Inn, whose large rooms were designed to evoke the feeling of a quaint farmhouse. This afternoon, we’ll begin our journey, similar to the European immigrants of Wisconsin, aboard a canal boat. As we cruise along the river, imagine how it felt to arrive in Milwaukee as you enjoy the outstanding views of its modern and historic icons and buildings on the shores of downtown. Then we’re off to Milwaukee’s most famous restaurant, Mader’s German Restaurant, for our delicious dinner and an opportunity to behold the extensive Stein collection and Hummel Figurines in their Tower Gallery and gift shop. Day 3: New Glarus or “Little Switzerland” See a glimpse of the multi-cultural European influence at Old World Wisconsin, before visiting Stoughton, a town that at the turn of the 19th century had the largest number of Norwegian immigrants in Wisconsin. Then it’s off to Madison to admire the diverse ethnic heritage reflected

Following the Oregon Trail Day 1: Westward Ho! Today we begin a journey of exploration of the Oregon Trail. Visit Independence, MO, a common starting point for pioneers, at the National Frontier’s Museum. At the Bingham-Waggoner Estate, enjoy a guided tour followed by dinner. Overnight in Independence, MO. D Day 2: Kearney, NE En route to Kearney, enjoy a visit to the Hollenberg Pony Express Station which functioned as a Pony Express stop from 1860-1861. This evening visit the Great Platte River Road Archway Monument for an interactive tribute to the pioneers who passed through the region. Dinner at a chuckwagon with a re-enactment of the Trail Era. B, D Day 3: Chimney Rock/Ash Hollow Today visit Ash Hollow State Historical Park to see a resting place for the travelers and follow the short walking trail up to see wagon ruts. At Chimney Rock National Historical Site experience the same awe and curiosity as the pioneers when they saw the famous landmark on the trail. This evening enjoy a covered wagon tour of the trail, rib-eye steaks grilled on a wood fire and songs around a campfire under the stars just like 1850s. Overnight stay in Scottsbluff, NE. B, D Day 4: Oregon Trail Days Celebration and Crossroads of a Nation Moving West A morning visit to the annual Oregon Trails Days celebration before continuing along the trail visiting Fort Laramie National Historic site, the most important outpost on the trail, and Register Cliff, one of the best remaining signature rocks on the trail. Emigrants would inscribe their names along the trail to declare they made it this far and to signal to family behind them. Arrive in Casper, WY for a 2-nightstay. Day 1: Depart Today we depart on a transatlantic flight to Rome. Day 2: Assisi This morning we arrive and transfer to the medieval town of Assisi. A local guide will join us as we explore the Basilica of St. Francis with its wonderful frescoes by Cimabue and Giotto. We then visit the Shrine of St. Clare, foundress of the Poor Clare nuns and friend of Francis. We go to San Damiano to pray in the place where Francis wrote the “Canticle of the Sun.” Our day ends with Mass followed by a welcome dinner at our hotel. Dinner and overnight in Assissi. B, D
Day 3: Cascia/Macerata/Loreto/Lanciano After breakfast we depart for Cascia to visit the Basilica church dedicated to St. Rita and the adjacent convent that has changed very little since the days of St. Rita. Visit all of the important sites including the Chapel with St. Rita’s incorrupt body, site of the Eucharistic miracle. Depart for Macerata where we visit the Shrine of Our Lady of Mercy, scene of another Eucharistic miracle. Finally, we head to Loreto, one of Italy’s leading pilgrimage sites. We visit the Sanctuary of the Holy House, where local tradition says angels moved the house that had been the Holy Family’s home in Nazareth. Dinner and overnight in Lanciano. B, D Day 4: Lanciano/San Giovanni Rotondo Today we continue south and enter the Region of Puglia to reach San Giovanni Rotondo, one of the most renowned pilgrimage destinations in Europe because of the extraordinary life and reputation for sanctity of the Franciscan Capuchin Priest, Padre Pio da Pietralcina, who lived, labored, and in 1968 died here. We celebrate Mass in the convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie where Padre Pio lived and afterwards hear about his life and works from the Franciscan friars. Dinner and overnight in San Giovanni. B, D Day 5: San Giovanni/Monte Sant’Angelo After Mass this morning at San Giovanni, we go to nearby Monte Sant’Angelo, one of the most ancient of Christian shrines, dedicated to the Archangel Michael who appeared here in the 5th and 8th centuries. We will visit Pietrelcina where Padre Pio was born and visit the home he grew up in. Nearby is the church he was baptized in and said his first Mass as a Priest. Then return to San Giovanni for free time. Dinner and overnight in San Giovanni. B, D Day 6: Amalfi Coast/Sorrento Cross the Italian Peninsula to the Amalfi Coast where we drive along one the most beautiful stretches of the coast and stop in Amalfi where
we see the Convent of St Francesco, the Paper Museum, the Chapel of St. Giuseppe del Castrista. Proceed to Sorrento on the Bay of Naples, one of Italy’s loveliest resorts with captivating views of Capri and of majestic volcanic Mount Vesuvius. Enjoy dinner and a musical at Teatro Tasso. Day 7: Isle of Capri This morning we travel by hydrofoil to the magical Isle of Capri. Our local guide will take us on a tour of the Island including a visit to St. Michele (to attend mass if possible) and a ride up the chairlift to the top of Mt. European Christmas Markets Day 1: Overnight flight International flight. D (onboard plane) Day 2: Rothenburg, Germany Arrive in Frankfurt and board our luxury coach for the short drive to Rothenburg ob der Tauber. This medieval city is one of only a few that exist in Germany that still have their entire medieval defensive wall intact. Rothenburg also has a Christmas market, and after touring the city on a short walk with a local guide to learn its history, we will have time to enjoy a smaller and quaint market. You will want to stop to visit Käthe Wohlfahrt’s Christkindlmarkt, an enormous Christmas shop which is open year-round. B (onboard plane) Day 3: Nurnburg, Germany In the past century, Nürnberg has dark ties to the Nazi party, and was the scene of the war trials held by allied forces. In more modern times it has a much brighter reputation as the site of the best Christmas markets in Germany. Dozens and dozens of stands which are decorated for the season are set in the city center square, with craftsmen that have handmade a large variety of goods to sell. Some stands are cooking sausages and others are warming Glühwein, a mix of red wine and spices. We return Rothenburg for overnight. A highlight of the tour will be a visit to the recently opened and poignant 9/11 Memorial at Ground Zero. The guide will provide insight into New York’s character and people, enhancing your NYC experience. B, D Day 5: Free Day in NYC The day is yours to explore New York City on your own. You may choose to hop on the ferry to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty, visit the Top of the Rock, catch another Broadway show or do a little shopping on 5th Ave. Your Tour Manager will be available to help you plan your day. Day 6: Newport, RI Depart NYC for Newport, RI to visit this coastal town and the one-time summer home of America’s millionaires. Tour one of these opulent “cottages”, the Breakers, and then enjoy free time in historic downtown Newport. B, L Day 7: Block Island, RI Board a ferry to Block Island, which has been designated by The Nature Conservancy as “One of the 12 last great places in the Western Hemisphere.” Transfer to the historic National Hotel for lunch on their giant wrap around porch with breathtaking views of the Block Island Sound. Take a guided tour of the island which highlights the picturesque scenery and tales of island life from a local historian. Overnight at the National Hotel. B, L Day 8: Free Day on Block Island Enjoy a free day to explore gorgeous and charming Block Island on your own today. Browse the unique shops, spend a relaxing day at the beach, rent a bike to explore the scenery of the island, or relax on the porch of the hotel. Board a return ferry to Long Island for an overnight stay. B Day 9: Long Island Enjoy the history and beauty of Long Island as we see two venues listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The first is Old Westbury Gardens, a Charles II-style mansion which is nestled amid 200 acres of formal gardens. Policies Cancellations Our refund policy for cancellations varies according to the type of tour. Your deposit is fully refundable up to the final payment due date. On any cancellation made after final payment is due, we reserve the right to withhold monies for non-refundable expenses. All motorcoach: Refund up to the day of departure for medical reasons except for non-refundable expenses to us. Many hotels, restaurants & activities require prepayment. Fly/Coach: The motorcoach portion of the tour is fully refundable (except for nonrefundable expenses incurred by us) up to the day before departure for medical reasons. The refund of the flight portion of the cost is non-refundable. Cruise and International tours: Refund for cancellation of cruises and international tours depend on the cruise line or tour operator. Please call for questions on a specific cruise or tour. Final Payment Your final payment is due 30 days before departure for an all-motorcoach tour and 60 days before departure for tours involving air unless otherwise noted. One-day tour payments are due in full upon reservation. Please call us in reference to cruise payment deadlines. Tour Price Inclusions (and tipping policy) The price of the tour includes all attractions, lodging, motorcoach transportation, breakfast and dinner daily (unless noted otherwise), and tips for hotel, airport, and restaurant personnel. If the tour involves air travel, the cost of the ticket is included unless otherwise noted. Some airlines charge for checked baggage and that is not included in the tour price. Tips for the driver, tour managers, and step-on guides are left to the discretion of the traveler and should be in accordance with services received. Typical gratuities for tour manager and driver are $3-$5 per person, per day. Trip Insurance For 2 main reasons we highly recommend the purchase of trip insurance and can provide information on Berkley Insurance: 1) Trip interruption – There are circumstances that can prevent passengers from fully participating in a tour and may require an early departure or extended stay. For example, if a passenger suffers an injury that prevents the traveler from
continuing on the tour, insurance will cover the cost of the extended stay, the cost of transportation home and the value of the missed tour (subject to claim submission and acceptance by Berkley Insurance). If you do not have insurance, you will personally incur these costs and it can be very expensive. 2) Trip cancellation - If you are forced to cancel a tour for medical reasons (for you or an immediate family member), having insurance ensures a complete refund of monies paid (except for the cost of insurance). Sunrise cannot guarantee this because there are times when monies are paid on your behalf prior to departure. Pick-up points For each trip, we determine the pick-up points used based in part on the number of requests for each point. We have pickup points to service the north, west, south and central areas of St. Louis metropolitan area and St. Charles and Illinois. All pick-up points allow parking for your vehicle. Sunrise’ pick up point partners offer the use of parking spaces during tour as a courtesy to Sunrise travelers. Neither Sunrise Tours nor parking lot owners assume responsibility for incidents occurring to parked cars. You will be notified of which pick-ups we are using for your tour in a letter about 2 weeks prior to departure. If you would like to stay overnight before leaving on the tour, we can provide a hotel room at some of our pick-ups for a reduced rate. If our routing allows, we may pick up along the way in outlying areas. Identification A passport is required on any tour that leaves the United States, including Canada. Photo ID’s are required on all fly tours and recommended on all tours. Singles Requesting Roommates If you would like to go on tour with us, but do not have a roommate for a specific trip, let us know and we will match you with someone else (same sex of course). Just let us know at least 60 days before departure and we will room you with another traveler at the double rate. If there is no roommate available on the tour you request, you will still only have to pay the price of a double. If you decline the roommate assigned, you will be responsible for the single supplement. Of course, if you prefer to travel individually, you can still sign up for the single fare. This offer is not valid on cruises, and some select tours.
Method of Payments For deposits we accept checks or cash. For final payment we accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, check or cash. Seating on the Motorcoach Seating is assigned and will be rotated on a daily basis. Special seating requests are honored on the basis of availability. Paying the single fare does NOT ensure you will have a seat to yourself on the coach, it only ensures you a room by yourself. Responsibility Sunrise Tours is not responsible for any injury, delay, loss or accident due to any act or negligence on the part of any person or company rendering services on any of our tours. We reserve the right to change any itinerary. After You Book A Tour... After you have booked a tour and we have received your deposit, the following is a schedule of correspondences: 1) confirmation of deposit received 2) your final payment is due 30 days before departure for an all-motorcoach tour or 60 days before departure for tours involving air (please note you will NOT receive an invoice when final payment is due) 3) you will receive a letter about 2-3 weeks prior to departure that will include your luggage tags and important details such as pick-up times and locations, hotel phone #’s, what to bring etc..It will also include a detailed itinerary (subject to change). Please bring this with you on tour. Groups 1) On scheduled trips, we provide 1 complimentary tour for 20 paid passsengers, or a 5% commission for fundraising efforts. 2) Have an idea? Let us know. We will create a trip just for your groups’ interest and budget. 3) You don’t have to “fill the bus”, because all of our scheduled tours are open to any number of members. If 10 members sign up for any scheduled trip, we come to your location in the St. Louis metro area, pick them up, and show them a great time. Pictures By signing up for and participating in a tour, you are agreeing to have any pictures taken on tour published in Sunrise Tours printed or web material. If you do not wish to have your picture used in any form by Sunrise Tours, please notify us prior to traveling.
