FALL FLAVOURS

We talked all things harvest with Angeline, our produce category manager, to get the inside scoop on what's in season this fall. Here are her tips for capitalizing on the best local produce from our B.C. growers this Thanksgiving.

Autumn is my favourite season, with the colourful leaves on the trees and the most delicious fall veggies. I recommend trying Brussels sprouts this time of year - they arrive beautifully large and round from our B.C. growers. They also pair great with cheese and meat, making them a versatile ingredient for appetizers and the main course!

For simple bite-sized skewers, combine baked and halved sprouts with salami, brie and cranberry sauce. Serve before or with dinner!

Not only is our butternut squash fresh from B.C., it , s also low calorie and packed with fibre and nutrients. Find it pre -cut for your convenience in our produce departments. And for a fun fall snack, try this delicious seasonal take on bruschetta!

Bake prepared oven-ready butternut squash in a 350F oven until tender, about 12 to 15 minutes. Once cooled, dice the squash and combine with diced green peppers and onions, minced garlic and halved cherry tomatoes. Toss with white or dark balsamic vinegar, maple syrup, salt and black pepper.

Drizzle slices of sourdough bread with olive oil, rub with a garlic clove and then toast. Top the garlic bread with bruschetta, toasted pumpkin seeds and chives. Enjoy!

To impress guests with a sweet and savoury treat, pair apple slices with a little goat cheese and basil on French baguette rounds.

Did you know there are at least 30 varieties of apples harvested in B.C. , s Okanagan and Fraser Valleys this time of year? Start taste testing or try one of our three favourites: ambrosia, gala or honeycrisp.
