This year, MNP flowers and Suntory Flowers Ltd. proudly celebrate the 30th anniversary of Surfinia®. What began as a real breakthrough to breed a perfect trailing Petunia from cuttings, has resulted in the best and most widely sold Petunia in the world. It is no coincidence that you will find trailing Surfinia’s wherever you go. Nowadays, the Surfinia® collection not only consists of these famous and classic trailing types, but also of very early trailing Petunias. By continuously innovating and improving the collection, it is ensured that Surfinia® will remain the world’s top favourite for many more years to come. Surfinia® Purple

The matchmaker Sunpuma® are true matchmakers. You can easily mix them with every flower or plant of your choice, to customize your plant basket the way you like it. Red flowers or yellow, big or small, it doesn't matter: Sunpuma® loves them all! The only question is.. Do you dare to mix them up? Sunpuma® is a range of Ipomoea that grows easily, stays compact and is available early in the season. The plants are suitable for hanging baskets, balcony containers and as a bedding plant where they can be mixed easily with other plants or flowers. With their attractive, striking foliage, they turn every garden or balcony into an eye-catching spectacle.

Purple Princess var. SunTun 1 A bit of luxury. Sunpuma® Purple Princess is a striking plant with unique qualities that are very unusual for an Ipomoea. Where the normal Ipomoea is only trailing, the Sunpuma® Purple Princess is trailing and upright growing. Therefore, it can be used either as a hanging or as a climbing plant. Another unique particularity of this variety is its flower power. Unlike the other Ipomoeas, Purple Princess shows an amazing quantity of pinkish flowers with an impressive size for this genus. In general, Ipomoea are known as plants that can be mixed perfectly with other plants or flowers and are almost never used alone. However, with its striking purple foliage and its display of beautiful, real eye-catching velvet flowers, Sunpuma® Purple Princess is the ideal pot plant to make a statement on its own!

Fashionably late The Surdiva® collection is elegant, arty and always in style. The fan-shaped flowers on short terminal spikes are distinctive and classy with a hint of art deco. Surdiva® is a range of nicely coloured Scaevola, one of the most heat tolerant bedding plants in the world, which makes it suitable for low maintenance. It has a mounding, semi-trailing habit with manageable growth and shows super continuous flowering. Hence, the Surdiva collection is highly versatile and has a very wide range of uses: from ground cover to hanging basket, pots and balcony boxes.
Improved Now we come with 4 improved varieties which we like to call “the new generation of Surdiva®”. They are very compact, have very good branching and high flowering power. The habit is more semi mounding in comparison to the usual trailing habit of the Scaevola. The propagation (rate) has been improved. With their similar habit, it makes them also interesting to use as mixes. They have a long flowering life until late in the season, very good performance outside and good resistance to heat and rain. 49
White ‘19 var. Bonsca 1160 Shine bright like a diamond. Surdiva® White adds glamour to your life. It covers your garden in pretty white flowers which makes a shiny bright side to look at. OUR CORE ACTIVITIES
58
The business of MNP flowers can broadly be divided into four core activities. 1. Testing & selection Each year MNP flowers selects and tests new and innovative varieties in close consultation with Suntory® Flowers Ltd. The breeding of the plants takes place in Japan, Vietnam and Australia, where an extensive team of professionals work passionately together to create perfect plants for every garden and balcony worldwide. Thereafter, the quality and selection specialists of MNP flowers select the plants and varieties that are suited best to the European market of today. With a clear vision, profound insight and common sense, they test the selected novelties extensively at several testing locations. Requirements that need to be met by our novelties are earliness, sturdiness, floriferousness, weather resistance, colour consistency, growth and more.
2. Building brands After the final selection, the specialists decide which varieties will be introduced and which will be either retested or dismissed. This is the point where we start building brands! The marketing department is the creative heart of our organization. To perfectly position new products into the market, a specified market research is conducted to identify the end consumer of each novelty and his or her corresponding preferences. Thereafter, the product name and brand design is discussed and created in several intensive brainstorm sessions. We develop a brand story, a brand
logo, labels, pots, leaflets and an online platform, to present the brand in every way. Now the product is ready to be marketed!
3. Introduction, sales and licensing The most important activity is bringing our new varieties (novelties) to the professional market. MNP flowers introduces new varieties three times a year: during the IPM, the FlowerTrials® and the FloraHolland Trade Fair. Consequently, there is always a reason to visit MNP flowers, both on location and during exhibitions. During a visit, business partners can express their interest in a new product and decide whether they want to run trials or to add the introduction to their assortment straightaway. To take up a new variety, a small license fee has to be paid for every Suntory® plant that is sold. MNP flowers compensate for this fee by creating free marketing concepts, arranging free publicity and PR, safeguarding plant quality, future breeding activities, etc. for its partners. Hence, plants of MNP flowers and Suntory Flowers Ltd. are protected by trademark and plant variety rights.
4. Monitoring and support At MNP flowers we are happy to guide, advise and provide our business partners in all the support they need. Therefore, we work closely together with our licensees. We visit them as much as possible, not only to consult them about propagating and growing specific Suntory® varieties, but also to listen and learn from their experiences in the field. This means, we can benefit from each other and establish a continuous growth and improvement of our business and breeding strategy every year. 59
GROWERS & LICENSEES (PROPAGATORS) We are very proud to collaborate with innovative and professional partners throughout the world. We work with licensees (propagators) and growers in every European country but also in Africa and the Middle East. If you would like to become our partner, please feel free to contact us. PICTURE DATABASE Dynamic marketing concepts are extremely important if you want to be unique in today’s horticultural market. That’s why we put a lot of effort in creating exciting and valuable marketing concepts for our beautiful products.
Logos & Artwork Standing out and making a statement on the store floor is the key. Without any recognition, there will be no successful sales of your product. Therefore, we have digital artwork available for our business partners so that you are ensured to effectively market your Suntory® products.
Catalogues & leaflets You will find detailed information about our beautiful and innovative products in our specified brand catalogues and leaflets. You can check and download them online at www.issuu.com/suntoryflowers or ask us for a printed copy.
Websites & Social Media For every brand we have developed a personalised website where you can find everything you need to know about the brand collection, the availability and specialised information for growers. Hence, every brand has personalised social media accounts where you 66
can find informative and beautiful inspirational posts on a day-to-day basis.
Advertising (texts), press and high-res pictures If you want to run a beautiful campaign or special advertisement to highlight single products or a whole Suntory® range, we have standard publication texts and additional information available for all our products. Hence, we have a special high resolution picture database where you can download images of every variety. Go to the website and fill in the form to get your own user-name and password. www.mnpflowers.image-share.nl

LABELS We have free, beautiful designed labels available for all our products. For example, Surfinia®, a plant brand that stands for quality that is still top of the bill. The labels have a natural look and feel and are 100% biodegradable, what makes them sustainable and environmental friendly. An important precedent, that perfectly suits the high quality that Surfinia® stands for.
