2014 Summer/Fall Calendar of Events

of engaging through Art and Ideas!

The mission of the Sun V alley Center for the Arts is to s timulate and provoke the imagination while opening hearts and minds through DIVERSE ARTS PROGRAMS.

ABOUT THE CENTER

The Center’s core purpose is to engage through art and ideas. We fulfill our purpose by delivering high-quality arts programming in a variety of disciplines including theatre (Company of Fools), music, visual arts and humanities. For over 40 years, The Center has been providing opportunities for inspiration, learning and transformation for children, teens and adults...enriching lives and our community.

OUR UNIQUE APPROACH

The Center has cultivated a unique, multidisciplinary approach. We organize what we present into 8–10 week intervals that consider “BIG IDEAS” to stimulate the imagination, enhance learning and encourage dialogue in the community. This approach to arts programming allows our audience to explore an idea or theme through multiple classes and events, and through the works of world-class artists, musicians, authors, filmmakers, theatre artists and experts.

ABOUT THIS CALENDAR

GET INVOLVED

12

This calendar provides an overview of upcoming programs. It is organized chronologically and by program type. The “BIG IDEAS” are called out in colored boxes and all programs related to those themes are marked with a color-coded star. We hope you will use this calendar as a way to plan your attendance at the programs you love and to experiment with new ones. Be sure to check our website as dates, times and locations may change!

There are so many ways to get involved with The Center. Become a member, take a class, attend events, make a donation or participate in our signature summer fundraising event: the 33rd Annual Sun Valley Center for the Arts Wine Auction. All of our programming throughout the year depends on support from memberships and the generosity of our donors. Volunteering is another wonderful way to support The Center. We have a wide variety of opportunities throughout the year. Please call to inquire about them.

STAY CONNECTED

Stay in touch and stay connected with our email newsletters and on Facebook. We have different email lists that we send out regularly chock full of the latest event details and announcements. We update The Center and Company of Fools’ Facebook pages all the time with music, videos, stories and reminders about events, too. EXHIBITION: Western Light, Ecstatic Landscapes The Center Ketchum, Mon–Fri, 9am–5pm, Sat in Jul & Aug, 11am–5pm An exhibition exploring the metaphysical and spiritual use of light in paintings made in the American West. It features three bodies of work: paintings from the 1930s to the 1950s by artists affiliated with New Mexico’s Transcendental Painting Group, work from the 1940s and 1950s by the artists of Northern California’s Dynaton movement, and Frederick S. Wight’s shimmering Southern California landscape paintings, made in the 1970s and 1980s.
