Art and ideas ignite the imagination, create connections, inspire us and enrich our lives and community. On the pages that follow, you will discover an incredible ­season of v­ isual arts exhibitions, music, lectures, Company of Fools ­professional theatre, dance, film and classes for adults, teens and children. The Center also presents BIG IDEA projects that explore a topic or theme through multiple events and ­disciplines. This winter’s Big Ideas include Under the Influence of Rock & Roll (Nov 21–Jan 30) and The Brain (Feb 6–Apr 17). You can delve into these intriguing ideas through the works of world-class ­artists, musicians, ­authors, filmmakers, theatre artists and experts. Come to one event or ­explore the topic more deeply through multiple activities. In the calendar, the BIG IDEAS are called out in colored boxes and all ­programs related to those themes are marked with a color-coded star. Through Jan 30, 2015 This project is a celebration of an art form with uniquely ­American origins and its impact on our culture. It ­explores connections between rock & roll and social, political and cultural events.

By the end of the course students will be able to successfully beatmatch, create and record their own mixes and create their own electronic music.

FILM: The Address T Magic Lantern, Ketchum, 7pm Directed by Ken Burns, the film tells the story of a tiny school in Putney, Vermont, where each year students are encouraged to practice, memorize and recite the ­Gettysburg Address.

This hands-on museum experience will stimulate your brain and have you connecting with art in new and exciting ways! DANCE WORKSHOP: Brian Sanders’ JUNK R The Community Campus, Footlight Dance Studio, Hailey, 6:30–8pm Through play and shifting perspectives, participants will gain an understanding of the creative ­process, movement, choreography and developing an artistic work. FILM: Sagrada T Magic Lantern, Ketchum, 7pm Sagrada is a biography of the Sagrada Familia in ­Barcelona. Designed by Antoni Gaudí, the church has been under construction since 1882 and, at this time, is about half complete. CONCERT: Colin Hay T Sun Valley Opera House, Sun Valley, 6:30pm The front man from Men at Work returns to the Opera House. The last time Colin Hay was here he performed to an ecstatic sell-out crowd and wowed everyone with his singing, his storytelling and his great sense of humor. FREE EVENING EXHIBITION TOUR & ARTIST ­LECTURE* with Rececca Kamen: The Brain The Center, Ketchum, 5:30pm, artist lecture at 6:15pm Join us for a tour of the exhibition followed by artist Rebecca Kamen’s talk about her sculptural work and its relationship to the drawings of Santiago Ramón y Cajal, who won the 1906 Nobel Prize for his drawings of neurons.

FILM: Finding Hillywood with filmmakers Leah Warshawski & Todd Soliday T Magic Lantern, Ketchum, 7pm Join local directors Todd Soliday and Leah Warshawski as they present their award-winning documentary, ­Finding Hillywood. The film chronicles one man’s road to ­forgiveness, his effort to heal his country (Rwanda), and the realization that we must all one day face our past. CONCERT: TorQ Percussion Quartet & residency T Liberty Theatre, Hailey, 6:30pm TorQ Percussion Quartet was formed by four Canadian percussionists looking to add new vitality to percussion repertoire and performance. Generously supported by WESTAF, the Western States Arts Federation, the Idaho Commission on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts and Wood River Inn. FILM: Levitated Mass T Magic Lantern, Ketchum, 7pm What is art? In 2012 the Los Angeles County Museum of Art had 22 cities asking themselves that exact ­question as a 340 ton boulder made its way through Southern ­California neighborhoods to its destination—a 456-footlong negative space where it rests above a concrete slot. The film documents this journey from idea to fruition and the questions it raised among with the public, the arts ­community, public officials and cities. EXHIBITION: Moving Pictures: Early Animation and Its Influence Featuring a selection of early animation cels from the ­collection of Jay and Gretchen Basen, this exhibition considers the history of animation, from its roots in 18th and 19th century magic lantern shows to its impact on contemporary artists.

ADULT THEATRE Class: The Art of Public Speaking with Irene Ziegler R The Liberty, Hailey, 6:30–8:30pm Taught by Irene Ziegler, a highly regarded actress, voiceover talent and teacher, this masterclass will focus on how to enhance the individual’s natural talents to more fully express themselves with energy and enthusiasm that will capture the audience’s interest.

ADULT CLASS: Encaustic Weekend Mini ­ orkshops with Alison Higdon R W The Center, Hailey, 12pm–4pm These Encaustic Weekend Mini Workshops are designed to give artists a brief introduction to the encaustic process. A one-hour demonstration is followed by independent work time, ­giving participants a chance to experiment with the paint and tools. Students can sign up for all four or just one.
