A NOTE ABOUT "SUN VALLEY" A first-time visitor to the Wood River Valley--the north-south swath of land that runs 30 miles from the Sawtooth National Recreation Area Visitors' Center to Bellevue--typically has the following three reactions: "Wait, what and where is SUN VALLEY?" This is followed in short order by, "My goodness, it sure is beautiful here." And then very soon something of this nature passes through the traveler's lips: "I could live here," resulting in said person picking up the publication that is now in your hands, SunValleystyle--A Catalogue of Fine Listings and Lifestyle. To clear up any confusion about "Sun Valley." Sun Valley was born in 1936 as the resort and ski hill one mile east of Ketchum. Today, the ski area encompasses Bald and Dollar Mountains, and still bears the Sun Valley name. Sun Valley is also still the name of the village and resort one mile east of Ketchum. But the term also has come to describe the whole area--when you go to "Sun Valley," you are going to Ketchum, Bald Mountain, the Sawtooths and Pioneer Mountains, the resort, Hemingway's stomping ground, the Big Wood River, and more. In other words, you are going to one of the most beautiful and geographically diverse places in the West.
