Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Saturday slammed the Election Commission (EC) for its move to recognise the faction led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde as the real Shiv Sena, and termed its decision as a form of political violence aimed at finishing off the party. He also said that all political parties need to ask the poll watchdog the definition of a political party. In a big blow to Thackeray, the EC on Friday allotted the name ‘Shiv Sena’ and its poll symbol ‘bow and arrow’ to the group led by CM Shinde. There is a party that is more than 50 years old and some of whose MLAs and MPs defected under pressure, he said while referring to Shiv Sena. The Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader also described the EC’s decision as a violation of law, Constitution and people’s will. He dared the government to call for fresh elections and seek a mandate from the people to see the Shiv Sena belong to whom. ”The party and people are with Uddhav Thackeray and the legal battle will continue,” Raut said.

What degree of dominance do India’s biggest businesses enjoy? Decoding the Billionaire Raj

Two announcements of the past few days grabbed attention. One was the Tata-owned Air India’s eye-popping order for 470 passenger planes, with options on another 370. The combined total of 840 is more than today’s all-airline fleet of 700 aircraft, flying as well as grounded. The second announcement was an investment commitment of about ~3.5 trillion by various business houses, led by Mukesh Ambani, Kumar Mangalam Birla and Tata, for a single state (Uttar Pradesh). Such announcements prompt the question: What degree of dominance, if any, do India’s biggest business groups enjoy? Put another way, how much of the country’s ambitions are pegged to the success of these groups?

The Supreme Court had ruled that nominated members of the Municipal Corporation of

Pathak alleged that several decisions were taken by the LG “unconstitutionally” and that he also supported “BJP’s hooliganism”. “First, the aldermen were appointed by the LG, bypassing the Delhi government. Then, they tried to get the aldermen to vote in the MCD house. After all this, shouldn’t the LG of Delhi resign? This is the country of Gandhi, Nehru and Shastri.
