There are so many really memorable things about Cyprus the pretty architecture, the balmy climate and the myriad of local bars and restaurants, above all it's the friendliness of the Cypriots that everyone loves to remember. Famously known as 'the Birthplace of Aphroditeâ&#x20AC;?, the Greek Goddess of Love. Cyprus boasts an average of 350 days of Sunshine per year with Long Hot Dry Summers - perfect for that summer wedding!

Cyprus weddings Catholic Church or civil ceremonies are available. In many cases these can be within the comfort of your hotel. A registry office wedding must take place prior to a church wedding. It is recommended that the registry office wedding takes place the day before the church wedding.

Church Weddings Couples marrying outside of Ireland must clear all formalities with their local parish church well before their date of travel. It is unusual for the official performing the wedding ceremony in Cyprus to accept to marry persons from a different faith. Prior clearance must be obtained before the wedding ceremony can be confirmed.

Anglican Church Weddings are available at most of the resorts in lovely traditional churches but you may also choose a chapel situated within or just outside the grounds of the following hotels: St George Hotel, Columbia Beach Resort, Grecian Sands Hotel, Adams Beach Hotel, Golden Coast Hotel and Golden Bay Hotel, Palm Beach Hotel and Chapel is available for residents only. Please note that for Anglican Church weddings bride and groom must show proof of Baptism.

Catholic Church Weddings can be celebrated in town's church in Paphos, Limassol, Larnaca and Polis. If you book to stay in Anassa Hotel, Elysium Beach Resort Hotel or Palm Beach Hotel you may choose to get married in the hotels' private chapel. St. George's church is available for both residents and nonresidents of St. Georges Gardens Hotel for both Anglican and Catholic weddings. Kefalos Holiday Village Chapel is available to residents and nonresidents for Catholic Weddings only. Please note that for Catholic Church wedding both bride and groom require Baptism certificates. Your local Catholic priest in Ireland should be asked to forward to Cyprus all required documents. Catholic Church weddings must be preceded by a Registry Office ceremony.

Residency Requirements You must be resident in Cyprus for 3 clear working days prior to your wedding day. Note: the 3 days is only applicable if you apply to the Marriage Officer for the issue of a Special Licence. If you do not apply for the special licence your marriage cannot be celebrated until 15 clear days after you submit your Notice of Marriage and you will need to be resident in Cyprus for approximately 20 days.

Required Documentation All documents must be original and taken with you to Cyprus. • Full Birth Certificate. • 10 Year Passport with at least 6 months validity remaining. • Sworn Affidavits - statement signed and stamped by a solicitor confirming both parties are free to marry. This must be prepared one month or less before your wedding date. • Notice of Marriage - this must be submitted to a marriage officer prior to your wedding. • If you are getting married in a church -a baptism certificate • If you are divorced - a Decree Absolute. • If you are a widower - a Death certificate and previous Marriage Certificate. • If you are adopted - an Adoption certificate. • If you are under 18 - letter of consent from a parent or guardian. • If you have changed your name by deed poll - stamped proof by a solicitor. • If you have an Irish Passport - a Freedom to Marry Certificate (obtained from the Registry office in Ireland or from an Irish Embassy if living outside of Ireland).

Marriage Application You can legally get married in Cyprus but you must make your marriage application in person to the Marriage Officer at the Municipality of your choice after you arrive in Cyprus.

Frequently Asked Questions Q. How long do I have to be in Cyprus before my wedding day? A. We recommend 4/5 days depending on specific requirements however only 3 working days are required Q. Do I have to do anything on my return? A. No, unless you would like to register your marriage with your local council Q. Is the ceremony in English? A. All ceremonies conducted in Cyprus are performed in English and are very similar to the format used in the Ireland Q. Is the wedding date confirmed before I go to Cyprus? A. Your wedding date is confirmed prior to arrival in Cyprus, however can be subject to change due to any unforeseen circumstances Q. How far in advance do I need to book? A. For peak dates such as May, June or September we recommend you book at least 12 months in advance. Q. What is the best way to carry my wedding dress for my wedding abroad? A. The dress needs to be boxed and carried in the overhead bin. The average measurement of this bin is 46 x 35 x 23 cm, but this might change, please check with your airline.
