Frequently Asked Questions Will it be cold?

What is the food like?

You will be visiting an environment where temperatures regularly fall to 15C and have been known to reach as low as -45C. However, on all our tours Sunway provide warm all-in-one thermal suit and boots on loan. With variations in Arctic weather conditions and global warming it is totally impossible to provide a guideline to temperatures you will endure on your arrival. Going on past experience early December is not as cold as late December. Snow conditions can vary from year to year and again with global warming we cannot give accurate guidelines on this. Our Thermal suits are similar to Ski Suits so it is advisable that you wear something comfortable underneath them as you are in these suits for the majority of the time spent in Lapland. We would recommend that you bring your own gloves (not woolly gloves, good thinsulate gloves, your own hats, and scarfs. Children being children will be playing in the snow and they will be cold‌

Please remember you are travelling to a foreign country so do not expect the same food. Generally breakfast, lunch and dinner are buffet style and will cater for adults and children’s tastes. We do try to ensure that all meals are similar to home wherever possible. The variety and type of food will vary from establishment to establishment

Will we find Santa Claus? Santa Claus is looking forward to meeting all the children, there will be a small token gift for every child. Santa Claus is very busy at this time of year but he is waiting to hear all the children’s wishes.

Equipment ? advantage of snow. Venues for our day visits to Lapland are accordingly lit naturally using roaring fires and Lappish outdoor candles providing an attractive setting for the events taking place. Indeed if you are particularly lucky you may see the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) which appear as if a storm in the sky with white red or green lights dancing through the atmosphere.u

Our equipment consists of snowmobiles which are easy to handle and are developed for the demanding conditions of arctic climates. The safaris include thermal outfits, snowmobiling shoes, under-hoods and helmets, woollen socks and mittens.

Instructions and guidance ? Technical instruction is provided before all safaris, so that all participants are able to have full knowledge about manoeuvring the vehicles. Additional emphasis is placed on the special safety regulations regarding every aspect of the safaris. We provide guidance in English.

Do they speak English? Yes, all Sunway tour guides speak English. Finnish and English are also widely spoken by local Finnish people.
