Tenerife Relocation Guide part three Registering Births, Deaths and Marriages Births: Births must be registered within eight days at the local civil registry office (Registro Civil). It is the parent’s responsibility to ensure this is done and it must be carried out in person. In some cases the hospital, clinic or midwife will register the birth. There is quite a lot of documentation required so contact your local Registry office; these can be found in Arona, Granadilla, and Santa Cruz. The offices can be found on the internet and you are able to download the required documents for completion and presentation at that office. Deaths: The death of a relative or friend is always distressing. Spanish Funeral Companies are very professional and are used to dealing with foreigners. (They usually have an English speaking staff member available) Following the death of a British national in Spain, their next of kin, or a formally appointed representative, must decide whether to repatriate the deceased to the UK, or carry out a local burial or cremation. If the deceased was covered by travel insurance, it is important for next of kin to contact the insurance company without delay otherwise costs must be met by the family. There is no obligation for the death overseas of a British national to be registered with the British Embassy. However, there are the advantages that a British form of death certificate is then available, and that a record of the death is afterwards held at the General Register Office in the UK. To apply from within the UK, you should contact Nationality and Passports Section of Consular Directorate in London. If you are applying from Tenerife, you should contact the nearest Consulate which is in Santa Cruz. You will find a huge amount of information on their website. http://ukinspain.fco.gov.uk/en/ Marriage: The process for civil marriage begins with the application for a certificate of permission to marry (Certificado de Capacidad Matrimonial). Couples wishing to marry must apply for this certificate in advance of the wedding. It is issued on condition that the applicants fulfill the legal right to marry and provide a well-founded reason for requesting it.

Application can be made at the Civil Registry (Registro Civil), District Court (Juzgado) or, in some cases, the Town Hall in the place where the marriage is to be held. A marriage certificate certifying the date, time, place of the marriage and details of the married couple is issued by the Civil Registry.
Homecare - Nursing: You may find yourself or your loved one in need of Homecare here in Tenerife. Initially, it is best to speak to your local Medical centre (assuming you have Health cover and are registered) they should advise you on any help available locally. If you decide to employ someone privately, maybe someone has been sent home after an operation or injury: whether it be for short or long-term care, there is Private Nursing Care available that offers immediate practical, physical, psychological support and rehabilitation. Many offer practical help in the home, dressings and sorting out medications. They can provide meals and have various disability aids to rent. Before you decide to employ anyone privately, be sure you speak to them first about qualifications…ask if they are a fully legal company and all are staff covered by insurance. http://www.tenerifehomecare.com www.tenerifenursingandcare.com English TV, Internet & Telephone: To get your telephone or ADSL connected you will need to call one of the telecommunications companies, such as Direct Telecom, Telefonica or you can drop into your local Movistar shops where they will be happy to help you. For Telefonica, call their Customer Service Department (1004). If you can't speak Spanish, simply say "English por favor" and they will say "one moment please" or "un momento por favor" they will then put you through to someone who can speak English. You will need the following details: Name, Address, Passport or N.I.E Number and your Bank Account details.

Travelling along the West coast of Tenerife, you will eventually come across Playa Paraiso, Callao Salvaje and Playa San Juan: Not as well known as the most popular tourist areas such as Los Cristianos and Las Americas, here, they have more to offer than large Shopping Centers, Bars and booming Discos… Below is a general overview for each of these coastal villages and what you can expect to pay should you decide to buy: Buying a 2 bedroom apartment in any of the following areas: Playa Paraiso
Playa Paraiso, (translated means Paradise Beach). This is a purpose built resort that is part of the municipal district of Adeje on the west coast of Tenerife, sandwiched midway between the resort centres of Playa de las Americas and Callao Salvaje. Being a relatively small resort, the range and number of shops around the town is also somewhat limited. Living here most people don’t experience too much difficulty finding the everyday holiday essentials. For a wider selection of bars, shops and restaurants etc it's worthwhile remembering that Playa de las Americas is only 10 minutes away by taxi from the resort centre. Callao Salvaje Callao Salvaje (translated, means 'the wild coast') is a small coastal town and holiday resort again in the district of Adeje on the west coast of Tenerife. The town has a lovely sea-front walk (promenade) with views to La Gomera. There are small shops, a wide variety of hotels, bars, fresh fish restaurants and shops. Looking at a map of the west coast, you will find Callao Salvaje between the towns of Playa Paraiso and Playa de La Arena, just 12km north west of Playa de Las Americas on the way to Los Gigantes. Tijoco, there are two main areas making up Tijoco. We have lower Tijoco (Tijoco Bajo) and higher Tijoco (Tijoco Alto). Both are typical Canarian villages with a mixture of new and mostly old properties. There are some beautiful examples of restored Canarian homes in this area. Both areas are very tranquil with stunning views towards the mountains and in most cases the sea.
Adeje Adeje Village was an erstwhile agricultural town but over the years it has experienced unprecedented growth and has been developed following the canons of modern architecture with lovely villas, town houses and apartments. Situated at only five minutes drive from Las Americas it is an ideal area for any family. Again, Adeje along with Arona is recognized as an important municipal town in Tenerife.

James Blunt - 28th July - 21:00 h. Santa Cruz Auditorium. Here you can listen to the wonderful voice of James Blunt: singing Back to Bedlam and You’re Beautiful, both songs shot him to international fame. All the Lost Souls got him to No.1 in more than ten countries. Two world tours and 18 million discs later, James Blunt returns to present his third album, Some Kind of Trouble.
Jazz Festival - The "live music" theme continues in July with the Heineken International Jazz Festival. More properly known as Festival Internacional Canarias Jazz y Mas Heineken, the brewery-sponsored event, this year, celebrates its 20th anniversary. Taking place from the 1st to the 10th of the month, it features many prominent jazz performers from all over the world and events take place at various venues throughout the island, the Auditorio de Tenerife being one of them. Romeria de San Benito - The name simply means "Pilgrimage of Saint Benito Abad" and is an important religious festival that takes place in La Laguna. Traditionally it is held on the second Sunday of July, this year being the 10th. The city of La Laguna has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the festival enjoys its own prestige as an event declared to be of national interest to tourists. There are various events on the days leading up to the main festival, such as the "Festival of the Couplet", folk group performances and the Baile de Magos, or "dance of the magicians". On the eve of the procession, beginning at around 9:30pm, there is the "Seven Islands Festival", where musicians and performers travel from all the other Canarian islands to participate. Film Music Festival – ‘Fimucite’ - Santa Cruz - from: 1st & 2nd. This is the meeting place for all movie music lovers who want to experience the music live. Esposaldo – Market – El Galeon, Adeje from 9th & 10th July - This is a great opportunity for bargain hunters with discounts of up to 70%. July in Puerto de la Cruz brings a whole month of fiestas with the highlight being the Fiesta del Carmen (July 12, 2011) when 30,000 visitors descend on the town to watch the celebrations in honour of their patron saint.
