Tenerife Relocation Guide Part four Buying Furniture and Essentials You may have bought a property in Tenerife fully furnished…or you may have empty rooms ready to fill… Even with a fully furnished property, you may at some point need to replace essential items: Prices can vary dramatically for all types of Household and Electrical Goods, so if you are planning on buying a significant amount from one shop, make sure you have done your homework and that you are not paying over the top. You could save quite an amount by shopping around and asking for a discount. There are larger retailers in the North of Tenerife that will save you money! But what if something goes wrong? Some require you take the goods back personally. So saving a few Euros may become costly in the end. We have found using a small local retailer can become beneficial in the long term. You become familiar with the owner, they offer you more discount and become someone you can trust. People come and people go…the internet is full of secondhand bargains. If it doesn’t have to be brand new, there are hundreds of goods for sale at great prices. Two great sites we use are Tenerifeforum.org and Tenebay.com. Don’t go and buy blindly, look around in your area or ask neighbours where they would recommend. It certainly pays to shop around.

For anyone looking to buy here in Tenerife, take a trip up into the hills where you will find peace and tranquility in a surprisingly short space of time. Wonderful uninterrupted views of the valleys and coastline can be found here in these three charming towns‌ You get more for your money! The properties are cheaper as you are away from the coast and a lot of the Rustic Houses and villas on the market have large plots of land. Granadilla de Abona is a municipality of Tenerife, located in the south of the island, occupying an area of 160 square kilometers with a population of over 30,000. Reina Sofia Airport is located in this municipality, as well as the beachside town of El Medano ("The Sand Dune"), where many important windsurfing competitions are held. Abona was the name of a Guanche menceyato, or kingdom that existed in this region of the island at the time of Spanish conquest in the late fifteenth century. Granadilla de Abona is a quaint old Spanish Town with gentle winding roads. Here you will find schools, a concert hall, a gymnasium, banks, churches and a few squares and much more.
San Isidro is one of the oldest villages on the island, located south of Granadilla town, with a total of 21,061 registered inhabitants. Well located for the South Airport (3km). It has its own Football Team in the second Division, Wrestling Clubs and there are 2 x Primary schools as well as the local community centres, Hotels, Medic al Centres and Sports centres along with many shops... Here you will find white painted rustic houses with trees and hanging vines, flower pots and vegetable beds‌

San Isidro is well favoured by the locals and is known by many as a “dormitory city”, because many people working in Los Cristianos and Las Americas tourist areas live here.
El Salto (and El Desierto) is situated away from the hustle and bustle, above San Isidro with below Granadilla. Only 10 mins drive from the South airport and 25 mins to Los Cristianos or Las Americas, it is perfectly located and benefits from all local amenities. The area has retained its rustic feel with many restored Barns and Canarian Fincas. Many properties have a plot of land here so, if you are green-fingered, you can grow Fruits, Vegetables and flowers to your hearts content.
Having looked around at property prices in all three towns, San Isidro seems to have a large number of reasonable 3 Bed Townhouses from €150,000. Granadilla 3 Bed Villas start at around €300,000 with El Salto coming in higher than the other two. You will be spoilt for choice as there is such a wide range of property: There are beautifully restored Barns, New Townhouses, Large Rustic Houses, and Huge Luxurious Villas. A lovely 2 Bed House in San Isidro with over 2,000 sqm of land is currently on the market for €250,000… You don’t have to search far to find a real bargain!!! Most properties in these areas have breath taking views due to their location up in the hills. Here, properties also benefit from cooler air temperatures at night where more mist and rain falls than you would get lower down at the coastline, although summers are hot and humid, they are more bearable the higher up you go.

Granadilla Granadilla Village has approximately 19,000 inhabitants and is a picturesque Spanish town high in the hills with its village square, church and winding roads. The town can be classed as agricultural as it produces vegetables, potatoes, cereals and grapes of excellent quality and is famed for its Monte del Agua area (Water Mountain Area) which has an amazing lunar like landscape.
An absolutely wonderful fully reformed house located in the town of Granadilla. This lovely house consists of 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms (2 ensuites), a separate kitchen; spacious lounge/dining room and a fantastic terrace, courtyard and private roof-terrace - totaling an amazing 170 m2 of external space!!! This lovely house also has a private garage. â‚Ź295,000
The area is ideal for those who wish to live on Tenerife and wish to be amongst the Spanish community. The town is above sea level which is good for those who prefer the cooler weather as opposed to that of the coastline. Many properties in this area benefit from spectacular views of the coastline.
San Isidro San Isidro is situated close to the southern Airport and is a residential Spanish-Canarian town offering a long high street bursting with shops, schools, car show rooms and furniture shops.
It is ideal for a family who wish to dwell amongst the Spanish Community and El Medano at just 5 minutes drive away is always an alternative for those beach days, as is La Tejita beach which is the same distance. Los Cristianos is a 20 minute drive from here.

El Salto & El Desierto El Salto is a real country area, set on a hill far from the city lights. It is situated above San Isidro and beneath Granadilla. To drive to Los Cristianos it would take approx. 25 minutes.
Stunning villa for sale in a rural setting in El Salto, Granadilla. This amazing villa consists of a private gated entrance, 2 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, lounge, a dining room and a large external area of 6000m2, including a large private swimming pool, gardens and parking spaces. This property enjoys beautiful sea and mountain views. There is also a separate villa which consists of 1 bedroom and 1 bathroom. â‚Ź645,000
This area is mostly populated with a mixture of multinational investors who have restored old Canarian Fincas making them into remarkable country style residences reminiscent of old farmhouses with climbing flowers on the walls and trees all around. The area is favored due to the fact that many of the houses come with large plots of land making them perfect for those who enjoy their privacy. El Desierto is very similar to El Salto, and is only a couple of minutes away from El Salto.
Situated on 10,200m2 in idyllic El Desierto and with stunning coastal views, this Finca has been developed into an EQUESTRIAN CENTRE. There is a detached cottage & range of stables. The cottage has been tastefully designed with a luxury kitchen, a lovely lounge with a high pitched ceiling and patio doors to a small terrace. There are 2 double bedrooms, a bathroom and a separate office-utility with external entrance. It is possible to extend the house to 200m2 on 2 levels! â‚Ź290,000
Both areas are just below Granadilla and generally properties here enjoy spectacular coastal & mountain views!

Jacques & Dominique Cauwel - Bought in Los Laureles, Tijoco Bajo
"SUNWAY TENERIFE is a company that we strongly recommend. From the very beginning of our search for a property, Sunway Tenerife had already offered us the apartment that corresponded most to our wishes and requirements: a lovely 2 bed apartment of recent build in a small complex with low community fees and very close to local typical restaurants and not too far from shops and beaches. A small paradise where we can live during several months per year in a quiet environment without being isolated. The sympathetic team at Sunway has helped us from the beginning to the end and has always been clear and helpful in everything, including several visits for administrative advice and also at the notary with a member of staff speaking French, Dutch, English, German and Spanish. A very welcome surprise was the very low cost of these services, taxes and the disponibility of the members of staff (thank you Corine) even after the sale was concluded."

Because of the fantastic climate and weather conditions of the Canary Islands, and the many superb holidays on Tenerife, we finally decided to burn the bridges and move to Tenerife and set up a new home. Too young to retire, we were looking for a day time business activity, and on finding what we thought was the ideal thing, through a different agent, we were advised by a good friend to asked Sunway Tenerife Ltd for their advice. Sunway Tenerife was very supportive in our project, but when they found some legal problems that could not be resolved, they advised against the purchase. We searched for an alternative business venture and finally ended up buying something that Sunway Tenerife was promoting. It is worth mentioning that the first business we looked at is no longer in existence. Sunway Tenerife Ltd made sure that the business we bought was 100% legal, they sorted out my lease with the landlord, and withheld sufficient monies from the purchase price to cover any unforeseeable debts. As time went by, we sold the business and with the expert help of Sunway Tenerife Ltd, purchased two other properties through their office, and have now sold one of these, again using Sunway. Sunway’s office is very friendly, the sales and admin staff are always helpful, when you have a business here, the paper trail is never ending, and I was forever calling in to their office with my problems, which gladly for me, they always managed to solve. The office is very professional when dealing with vendors and purchasers; they explain every aspect of buying and selling, and have a great after-sales policy.
