Survey of the Graduates 2020 Each year, the Career Services department of SUNY Erie Community College produces a college-wide statistical analysis of its graduates to provide employment and transfer related outcomes. The results allow potential students the opportunity to see where SUNY Erie graduates go directly after graduation. It is also a valuable assessment tool for SUNY Erie faculty, administrators, school counselors, and the Board of Trustees. The Survey of Graduates serves as one method of measuring how effective SUNY Erie is in fulfilling its overall mission.

The Career Services office initiated its contact of certified graduates approximately six months after graduation, based upon records provided by the college Registrar for the 2020 academic year. The department followed the best practices and standards of the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE). All graduates were contacted with survey questions via email and/or phone. In some cases when the graduate was unavailable, academic departments provided updated employment and transfer data. A comprehensive report from the National Student Clearinghouse was also utilized to gain valuable transfer data.

In place of the term “response rate” we use the term “knowledge rate” to recognize that data came from various sources. Of the 2,057 degrees and certificates awarded in 2020, we had a knowledge rate of 77% for Associate Degree graduates and 82% for Certificate Program graduates. A college-wide summary sheet of both degree and certificate programs are provided at the end of this report.

We would be remiss not to mention the COVID-19 pandemic and how it impacted our 2020 graduates. When asked the question, “Indicate specific reasons, if any, that you were unable to obtain employment or continue your education,” 178 of our graduates listed COVID-19 as their primary reason. In some cases, COVID-19 made finding employment more difficult, created childcare issues, or presented safety concerns.
