The Program

In a society increasingly reliant on information technology, the demand has grown for professionals that understand the science of computing and its application to other fields in business and industry, applying the fundamentals and practical uses of computer science to real-world problems. Forecast data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that over the decade 2020-2030 strong employment growth for computer and mathematical occupations is expected due to long-term economic changes driving up demand for workers in these careers. Nationally, the median pay in 2020 for computer-related job titles ranged from $89,190 for computer programmers to $110,140 for software developers and software quality assurance analysts and testers. The applied computing program combines the core of the baccalaureate program in information systems or computer science with strong academic preparation in another area of study. Students take problem-solving skills and combine them with studies in both computer science and business, communication, or another discipline of their choice. The result: career success in a variety of fields where computer skills are intertwined with knowledge of a second subject matter area.

Students live in our modern, spacious residential complexes, including the new Hilltop Hall, SUNY’s first zero-net carbon residence hall, and enjoy an expanding array of student-focused facilities that include our state-of-the-art Center for Global Advanced Manufacturing, Student Center, and Wildcat Field House. Life on campus is enriched by a wide variety of events and activities, including the Wildcats’ championship-winning intercollegiate athletics program, our Wildcat Esports team, and a weekly agenda of intramurals, concerts, comedians, and more. Students can join one of the dozens of clubs and organizations or start one with a group of friends who share an interest.
