The Program Information systems professionals connect the world of work with the world of technology—they help people identify, analyze, and solve problems by applying technology. Do you like challenges? Do you like variety? Do you aspire to become a “C-level” executive someday (CIO, CTO, CSO, CCO, CKO)? If so, you should strongly consider our Information Systems degree program. Forecast data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that, over the decade 20202030, strong employment growth for computer and mathematical occupations is expected due to long-term economic changes driving up demand for workers in these careers. Nationally, the median pay in 2020 for computer-related job titles ranged from $89,190 for computer programmers to $110,140 for software developers and software quality assurance analysts and testers. Students acquire basic skills in computer systems areas including programming, database management, and business. In addition, the program emphasizes knowledge of business applications through a combination of theory and practical learning. Advanced electives are selected to match individual interests with professional goals and prepare students for opportunities in varied fields after graduation.
SUNY Poly faculty work closely with students and challenge them to excel. Many members of the faculty have experience in business and industry as well as academic credentials. A low student-to-faculty ratio means faculty really get to know and work closely with students.
Career Opportunities Information system professionals have limitless career options. Their unique knowledge of computer-related business applications and practical skills is a necessity for successful businesses and organizations. Depending on their professional goals, graduates can either pursue advanced study in management or business, or begin working following graduation. Typical job titles for information systems professionals are: • System Analyst • Programmer/Analyst • Database Administrator • Data Administrator • Systems Administrator • Project Manager • Systems Developer • Systems Integrator • Information Systems Auditor
