SUNY Polytechnic Institute
SUNY Polytechnic Institute, New York’s premier public polytechnic, provides an innovative and affordable higher education for students interested in science, engineering, technology, business, healthcare, and other liberal arts offerings for a well-rounded approach to experiential learning. Our commitment to a hands-on education situates students with both the academic structure customary of undergraduate study and unique opportunities for training and cutting-edge research, ultimately providing learners an unmatched education targeted for success in our fast-changing world. SUNY Poly students enjoy public school tuition with benefits that many small, private institutions boast, including small class sizes, individualized learning experiences, and a tight-knit community.
BS Mechanical Engineering Technology The Program
The field of Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) generates useful machinery, products, and services by combining engineering principles and practical knowledge. Mechanical engineering technologists are versatile and skilled practitioners who bring life to engineering activities through skillful design and assembly.
The MET program at SUNY Poly values and encourages intellectual achievement of the highest quality and instills technical competencies inherent to the field. Students that complete the program will have the ability to design and modify components of mechanical systems, apply principles of solid and fluid mechanics to existing and new systems, generate computer-aided engineering graphics, analyze and interpret data, work effectively in small teams, communicate orally, and write technical documents. Students gain hands-on, practical experience using modern software and hardware such as:
• AutoCAD, mechanical design and layout
• AutoDesk Inventor Professional
• LabVIEW, mechanical measurements
• Mastercam
• MATLAB/SimuLink, simulation
• Multisim, circuit simulation
• SolidWorks, rapid prototyping, solid modeling, and finite element analysis
• ANSYS CFD simulation
The engineering technology programs at SUNY Poly are accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET.

Labs
The MET program has several laboratories with equipment to provide hands-on application of classroom learning. These laboratories include:
• Bending moment and deflection of beam, strain gauges, stress analysis
• Statics and strength of materials
• Dynamics test stands: centrifugal force, ballistic projectiles, linear momentum, conservation of potential energy, acceleration, forces of gravity
• CNC machining center, CNC turret lathe, machine tools and equipment
• 3D Printing
• Heat transfer, solar energy, turbomachinery, fluid mechanics
• Mechanical measurements, industrial instrumentation, mechatronic design
Career Opportunities
Graduates of the MET program are problem solvers with hands-on skills and well-rounded technical background that can work successfully with a wide range of advanced mechanical systems and processes. Typical job functions include: design and development, installation, maintenance, documentation, manufacturing, fabricating, testing and evaluation, and technical sales. Graduates can pursue careers not only in MET, but also in related industrial and manufacturing fields such as computer science and civil engineering.

Our Campus
Located in Utica, NY, on hundreds of wooded and landscaped acres, SUNY Poly’s campus is a beautiful living and learning environment. Students live in our modern, spacious residential complexes, including the new Hilltop Hall, SUNY’s first zero-net carbon residence hall, and enjoy an expanding array of student-focused facilities that include our state-of-the-art Center for Global Advanced Manufacturing, Student Center, and Wildcat Field House. Life on campus is enriched by a wide variety of events and activities, including the Wildcats’ championship-winning intercollegiate athletics program, our Wildcat Esports team, and a weekly agenda of intramurals, concerts, comedians, and more. Students can join one of the dozens of clubs and organizations or start one with a group of friends who share an interest.
