SUNY Polytechnic Institute

SUNY Polytechnic Institute, New York’s premier public polytechnic, provides an innovative and affordable higher education for students interested in science, engineering, technology, business, healthcare, and other liberal arts offerings for a well-rounded approach to experiential learning. Our commitment to a hands-on education situates students with both the academic structure customary of undergraduate study and unique opportunities for training and cutting-edge research, ultimately providing learners an unmatched education targeted for success in our fast-changing world. SUNY Poly students enjoy public school tuition with benefits that many small, private institutions boast, including small class sizes, individualized learning experiences, and a tight-knit community.

The Program Education with a Personal Touch

The largest segment of the healthcare system is nursing. The healthcare system needs Registered Professional nurses who engage in evidence-based practice. Baccalaureate Nursing education helps nurses to meet the challenges of our complex healthcare system, and provide quality patient care. SUNY Poly’s BS in Nursing is designed for licensed registered nurses from state approved associate or diploma nursing programs, who want to expand their professional potential. The coursework covers the theoretical bases of professional nursing practice, comprehensive health assessment, nursing research, nursing leadership, and community health nursing. Foundational knowledge in evidence-based practice is threaded through the curriculum. Experiential learning occurs in areas of nursing leadership and community health nursing through scheduled practicums. As with all programs at SUNY Poly, the nursing program includes a strong base in the arts and sciences. This provides students with the tools and knowledge to relate their experiences to their work and to the broader context of their lives. It helps create a more diverse, complete education that continues to grow throughout life. The mission of the nursing faculty is to create a caring transformational environment that promotes academic and professional excellence, lifelong scholarship, and innovation in nursing. We provide evidence-based nursing education that prepares learners to meet healthcare needs within our local and global communities.

BS/MS Option

SUNY Poly’s Accelerated BS/MS programs with a major in Family Nurse Practitioner or Nursing Education offer qualified registered nurses the opportunity to earn both the BS and MS in Nursing within a shortened time frame. The Accelerated BS/MS program curricula for a major in Family Nurse Practitioner or Nursing education combine elements of the BS program with the MS program and streamlines the BS program by substituting several traditional nursing courses with select accelerated courses. Full-time study is required to proceed through the program at an accelerated pace. At the end of either program, the successful graduate will be eligible to seek national certification. The RN to BS/MS student will receive both BS and MS degrees upon program completion.

Online Format

SUNY Poly’s online format for the BS in Nursing program offers students access to the courses, faculty, and resources of our Nursing Department from any location. The asynchronous online format allows learners the flexibility to engage in coursework on a schedule that accommodates employment duties and personal responsibilities. Most courses are infused with synchronous class sessions. These class meetings provide learners with opportunities for real-time engagement with faculty and class peers. This unique online program for the BS in Nursing is convenient for the learners, is built upon a strong history of excellence, and is delivered at a great price point.
