WELCOME TO
SUPANOVA 2015 Welcome to the Supanova Pop Culture Expo’s April 2015 tour of Melbourne and the Gold Coast!
It has been a rocket-like beginning to 2015 and we find it amazingly crazy (awesome!) that we’re already in April. In the immortal word of Keanu Reeves: “Whoa!” It feels great to once more be able to say, “Welcome to our biggest and best Melbourne and Gold Coast expos!” Welcome also to our sponsors; Madman, FilmInk (who produce this Event Programme with us), Domino’s Pizza, Booktopia, Weta, Global Gear and Timezone, along with EB Games in Melbourne and the Gold Coast Film Festival and QPOW on the Gold Coast. All add their special flavour to these events and we appreciate their ongoing support. A sincere thank you to our partners, exhibitors and wonderfully talented artisans of The Alley. To see so many self-publishing and creative locals producing international quality product and entertainment is truly fantastic!

We’ve worked hard to arrange exclusives and fun stuff for you, and we’ve succeeded in a big way: the WORLD premiere screening of the first two episodes of Marvel’s Daredevil, the exclusive screening of the newly represented classic Thunderbirds Are Go! (followed in Melbourne by a Q&A with Pukeko Pictures and Weta Workshop’s Richard Taylor), behind the scenes cast and crew panels from new feature film Infini, exclusive behind the scenes footage from Mad Max: Fury Road and so much more. We’ve got the most diverse range of guests we’ve ever hosted, and a wonderful line up of panels and interactive competitions for you to watch or participate in, such as the Madman National Cosplay Championships, the Timezone Supanova Australian Pinball Championships, Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron ‘Be The Super Hero’ ultimate showdown (Melbourne) and the Nippon World Karaoke Grand Prix (Gold Coast) - just to name a few! We hope you have fun, we’ve had fun getting us here, and thanks again for your ever-so appreciated support. Welcome to Supanova 2015 – we hope you have a blast! SUPA-
SCREENINGS
In addition to screening a host of the best anime, fantasy, sci-fi and action films, Supanova features a selection of special panels where you can catch an exclusive look at footage from a host of upcoming productions, and hear directly from their cast and crew. Here are some highlights.
NETFLIX PRESENTS: DAREDEVIL (MA15+)
Netflix has launched in Australia and one of the hottest series to hit the streaming platform is Marvel’s Daredevil, which follows Matt Murdock, who was tragically blinded as a boy, and now fights against injustice as a masked vigilante. Supanova is bringing you the first two episodes of the series, accompanied by an introduction from the cast. Those in Melbourne will be the first to see the episodes, with the exclusive Saturday screening scheduled 90 minutes before the series is released on Netflix worldwide.
THUNDERBIRDS ARE GO!
The iconic sixties series has been revamped as a co-production between ITV Studios and New Zealand based Pukeko Pictures in association with the world-famous Weta Workshop (The Lord of the Rings, Avatar). The first two episodes of the series featuring everyone’s favourite family of heroes will screen at Supanova with an introduction by the cast, and Executive Producer, Richard Taylor, co-owner of Pukeko Pictures and Weta Workshops, will participate in a post-screening Q&A in Melbourne.
MAD MAX: FURY ROAD
With the highly anticipated sequel blasting into cinemas on May 14, two of its creators will give us the lowdown on the post-apocalyptic actioner. Mark Sexton storyboarded the film in a small team as George Miller wrote the script. Greg Van Borssum, at the other end of production, choreographed the stunning fights. Hear their stories and catch some exclusive footage!
INFINI
Australian director Shane Abbess (Gabriel) and select cast members will present footage from this thought-provoking sci-fi thriller that chronicles the efforts of a search and rescue team using slipstream technology to transport themselves to an off-world mining facility. Their mission is to save the lone survivor (Daniel MacPherson) of a biological outbreak.
ARROWHEAD (Melbourne Exclusive)
The cast and crew behind this low-budget but spectacular slice of sci-fi will be on hand to give you the lowdown about the upcoming film, which follows a prisoner of war who becomes stranded on a desert moon with only an artificial intelligence system for company (voiced by Shaun Micallef!).

The director and select cast members will be at Supanova to unveil advance footage from the film and answer your questions! To check the times and venues for each of these panels, see the Event Timetable on Page 24.
Kenji Kamiyama’s feature-length reboot of Shotaro Ishinomori’s anime series Cyborg 009 unspools close to three decades ago when nine weaponised cyborgs disappeared after they were forced to turn on their creators in the name of justice. But when a
string of terrorist attacks occur in locations throughout the world, the cyborgs return to restore order to the globe once more. To check the full list of screenings at Supanova, see the AnimeLab Timetable on the opposite page.

SUPANOVA’STHEALLEY! Most pop culture conventions have an Artists’ Alley. Us? We have THE ALLEY! Showcasing incredible artists, fan clubs, storytellers and traders of the most amazing merch, The Alley is an absolute must-see for every visitor to Supanova. To make it easier to discover what makes your heart pound or soar, The Alley is divided into the following easily navigated districts…
This is the place for finding indie gaming and film/ TV-based start-ups and promotions. Get in on the ground floor of these grass roots creative endeavours!
It’s the home of artisans and craftspeople producing their own prints, posters and postcards, jewellery and badges, t-shirts and other amazing wearables, mugs, frames, statues and any number of other incredible, singular products.
The name says it all! Fans showing and sharing their love for their chosen obsessions. Hook up with kindred spirits here and benefit from the camaraderie of shared interests. This is also where you’ll find charity organisations.
This is where storytellers of all kinds can be found. Whether presented in comics or graphic novels, self-published children’s books or novels, manga or mini-comics, it’s all here – presented by the creators, writers, artists and publishers themselves.
This is where you can find those those hard to find collectables and imports, interesting and must have artifacts, and stuff that just can’t seem to be found anywhere else! The Supa Market fills the gap between the large importers and the lone creators.
AUTOGRAPH&PHOTOOPS HERE’S HOW IT WORKS
Supanova provides you with the chance to get up close and personal with your favourite Supa-Star guests. Below are the rules and regulations when it comes to autograph and photo opportunities. See the Quick Guest Guide on Page 32 for information on pricing, venues and times. AUTOGRAPHS 1. Purchase a Token for the autograph(s) of the Supa-Star(s) you would like from the Supanova Store. Autograph fee includes a complimentary print from one of the star’s productions for them to sign (if required). Please review the prints on the nearby photo wall while you are waiting in the line as they will be available at the guest’s signing table (prints are no longer available at the Supanova Store). Alternatively, you can supply your own item, one (1) per Token, to be signed. Please make sure that the item is from a production relevant to the guest.* 2. Take the Token to the Supa-Star Signing Area and queue for your turn. If you have a VIP ticket or special tier ticket with priority queueing, please identify yourself to the Supanova volunteer looking after the line. 3. Exchange your token for a print from the Supa-Star’s assistant. If you have your own item, just hand in your token. 4. Enjoy your moment with your favourite Supa-Star, and your newly signed item! 5. Tokens are NOT REFUNDABLE and deemed void if you do not redeem them during the expo. Consider Tokens as if they’re CASH as they cannot be replaced if lost or stolen. *Please note some guests sell their autographs directly from their table and don’t require a pre-purchased token. These guests will be clearly indicated on the Supanova store pricing list, or you can ask any of our friendly Supanova volunteers. PHOTO-OPS AT ROY’S PHOTOGRAPHY 1. At the Supanova Store, purchase a Token for the photo session(s) with your chosen Supa-Star(s). The photo session time is printed on the Token you purchase. 2. Set your alarm to remind you prior the session so you don’t forget or miss out. 3. Make sure you line up 15 minutes before your session at Roy’s Photography Studio (near the Supa-Star Signing Area). 4. Hand your Token to the assistant as you enter the photo studio. 5. Have your photo taken with the Supa-Star! 6. Collect your photo from the table near the photo booth at the allocated time as indicated by your photo receipt or Roy’s Photo Studio volunteers. 7. Tokens are NOT REFUNDABLE if you do not redeem them during your nominated photo session. Consider Tokens as if they’re CASH as they cannot be replaced if lost or stolen. Please note that photo fees do not include an autograph. To get your photo signed, you must have an autograph Token as well (see above).
