THE WELLS FILM CENTRE STORY

WELCOME W

e already know that 2017 is going to be a stunning year for films, and there are some massive blockbusters heading your way very soon. We’re happy to say though, that February seems to have its fair share of gems, too. Take the superb Manchester by the Sea for example. And the two war movies, Hacksaw Ridge and Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk both show the raw humanity of war that rarely gets put onto the big screen.

FEBRUARY 2017

On a slightly different note, those who loved The Lego Movie will adore The Lego Batman Movie. To find out showtimes for any of our films or Event Cinema, head to www.wellsfilmcentre.co.uk, check us out on Facebook, or ring us on 01749 673195 and we’ll be glad to help. Hope you enjoy the magazine, and see you in the cinema soon. Sally Cooper Proprietor, Wells Film Centre

A

fter the success of The Lego Movie in 2014, a sequel was always going to happen. What wasn’t expected though, was that we’d also get a spin-off movie, too. And if you’ve seen any of the trailers for The Lego Batman Movie then you’ll be reassured to know that

SEE IT IF YOU LIKED

The Lego Movie (2014)

it’s every bit as hilarious as the film that spawned it. As the trailers don’t seem to give much away, little is known of the film’s plot – apart from Batman having to stop The Joker from taking over Gotham. What got our Bat-juices really flowing though, was the list of supporting cast joining them. So you can expect to see the Lego versions of Harley Quinn, Bane, The Riddler, Two-Face, Catwoman, Poison Ivy and The Penguin. With a script every bit as sharp as the original Lego Movie, this could quite possibly be one of the funniest films you’ll see all year.

WOOLF WORKS

AMADEUS

STARRING The Royal Ballet CERT 12A RELEASE 8th Feb (7.15pm) LENGTH 180 minutes

STARRING Lucian Msamati CERT 12A RELEASE 2nd Feb (7pm) LENGTH 210 minutes

Wayne McGregor’s ballet triptych Woolf Works, inspired by the writings of Virginia Woolf, met with outstanding critical acclaim on its premiere in 2015. Each of the three acts springs from one of Woolf’s landmark novels: Mrs Dalloway, Orlando and The Waves – but these inspirations are also enmeshed with elements from her letters, essays and diaries.

Lucian Msamati (Luther, Game of Thrones, NT Live: The Comedy of Errors) plays Salieri in Peter Shaffer’s iconic play, broadcast live from the National Theatre, and with live orchestral accompaniment by Southbank Sinfonia. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, a rowdy young prodigy, arrives in Vienna, the music capital of the world – and he’s determined to make a splash. Awestruck by his genius, court composer Antonio Salieri has the power to promote his talent or destroy his name. Seized by obsessive jealousy he begins a war with Mozart, with music, and ultimately, with God. After winning multiple Olivier and Tony Awards when it had its premiere at the National Theatre in 1979, Amadeus was adapted into an Academy Award-winning film.

WELLS CINEMA NEWS

FESTIVAL OF FILM HOT FUZZ SOLD OUT! TO HOST SPECIAL NEEDS SCREENING

T

hank you to everyone who bought tickets for the open-air screenings of Hot Fuzz at The Bishop’s Palace on April 28-29. We’re delighted to say that both nights are now completely sold out! Apologies for anyone who missed out, but congratulations to all those of you who got them – we guarantee that you’re all going to have a brilliant night! We’ve got plenty more exciting things coming up for 2017’s Festival of Film, so check out our site (www.wellsfilmcentre.co.uk) for the latest news.

YOU’RE A WINNER!

A couple of months ago we held a competition to win two pairs of tickets for the Hot Fuzz screenings, and the winners have now been drawn! Many congratulations to Martin Harrington from Evercreech and Mrs. Mead from Radstock. Your tickets will be with you soon!

O

n Saturday April 29 the Wells Film Centre will be showing a Special Needs Screening of The Lego Batman Movie as part of Wells Festival of Film 2017. The screening starts at 11am (doors open at 10.30am) and tickets are completely free! To book your places, either pop into the cinema or call them on 01749 673195. Many parents say they find going to a public show difficult as some children (and adults) with special needs have sensory sensitivities to sound and light. For Special Needs-Friendly Screenings the soundtrack is turned down a little and the house lights remain on low in the auditorium. If anyone makes a noise or moves around then that is absolutely fine.

FILM SHOT IN WELLS RELEASED NEXT MONTH

I

f you remember, last year we brought you pictures of the film Another Mother’s Son, which stars Ronan Keating, John Hannah and Sherlock’s Amanda Abbington, and was shot in Wells, Priddy, Cranmore and Bath. Well now the film is finished and will be released next month. From Friday, March 24 it’ll be screened at the Wells Film Centre, and we’ve got a very special event planned, too. Keep an eye on our Facebook page or website, and we’ll post up any further details as soon as we have them. Social Services Registered
